TIRE SEPARATION - FACTORY ORIGINAL TIRES WERE REPLACED FOR THE SAME REASON UNDER A RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD 250 ON A SLICK ROAD WHEN A PICK UP STOPPED SHORT IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME HITTING THE REAR END OF THE PICK UP APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MPH. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT ALLOWED ME TO SLIDE UNDER THE BELT CAUSING MY KNEES TO HIT THE DASH. OTHER THEN GOOD BRUISES AND MILD SORENESS I WAS FINE. THE OTHER PERSON WAS FINE AS WELL. MY SEAT BELT DID NOT ENGAGE AND I AM WONDERING WHY MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE GRILL AND RADIATOR WERE DAMAGED?
SUMMARY: PURCHASED THIS 2008 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY NEW AT A FORD DEALERSHIP IN FLA. ON FEB. 29, 2008 AND CONTINUE TO BE THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 6.4 TURBO-DIESEL ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO TSB 07-26-2 (WIRING HARNESS DEFECT ON HPFP) ISSUED AUGUST 2007.IN JANUARY 2015, WHILE ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEED, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I LOST ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE DIED. BRAKING AND STEERING WERE ALSO DIMINISHED.GOT LUCKY AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION AND COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. DIAGNOSIS REVEALED A SHORT IN THE WIRING OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP GASKET WIRING HARNESS (THE SUBJECT OF TSB 07-26-2 WHEREIN FORD RECOGNIZED IN AUGUST OF 2007 A PROBLEM WITH UNPROTECTED WIRING WITHIN THE HPFP WIRING HARNESS). REPAIRS WERE EXTREMELY COSTLY (OVER $3,000.00)MORE IMPORTANTLY THIS INSTANTANEOUS FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, INJURY OR DEATH; IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME.I URGE NTSB TO INVESTIGATE UNPLANNED SHUT DOWNS OF THIS VEHICLE'S POWER PLANT. UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES THIS LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, COLLISION, INJURY AND POSSIBLY DEATH. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE AUGUST OF 2007 YET HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.REPLACE THE HPFP GASKET AND WIRING HARNESS. RUN # 2 FOR US: MY FORD 2008 F250, IS BACK IN THE SAME FORD SHOP ON RUN #2 OF THE SAME WIRING HARNESS. WHILE ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEED OF 60 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE DIED. BRAKING AND STEERING WERE ALSO DIMINISHED. WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION AND COAST ACROSS TWO LANES TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED.DIAGNOSIS REVEALED A SHORT IN THE WIRING OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP GASKET WIRING HARNESS. ( ALREADY SEE 7 COMPLAINTS).
WE OWN A 2008 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY TRUCK WITH BF GOODRICH RUGGED TERRAIN T/A TIRES. ON OR ABOUT 7/5/15, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE DEVELOPED TREAD FAILURE AS A PORTION OF THE TIRE TREAD BEGAN PEELING OFF WHILE TRAVELING ON I-75. A SPARE TIRE WAS PUT ON AND THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND A WARRANTY CLAIM WAS SUBMITTED AS IT WAS STILL UNDER THE TREAD WARRANTY. ON OR ABOUT 8/21/15, THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE EXPERIENCED COMPLETE TIRE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING ON I-95, WHICH CAUSED NEARLY $3000.00 IN DAMAGES TO THE TRUCK. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL ON THE BF GOODRICH RUGGED TERRAIN T/A TIRES BUT NOT FOR THE 20 INCH TIRES WHICH ARE THE ONES DESCRIBED HERE. WE FEEL THAT THE 20 INCH TIRES NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED FOR POSSIBLE RECALL AS WELL. THESE TIRES ONLY HAD 37,667 MILES ON THEM AND WERE PURCHASED NEW FROM FORD ON 7/23/12. THIS TIRE FAILURE NEARLY CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, WHICH COULD OF LED TO DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED/INFLATED AND ROTATED.

POWER STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE TOWING A EXPENSIVE CLASSIC CAR. I AM READING THAT IT IS THE STEERING GEAR BOX. FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250 SD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BUSHINGS THAT CONNECT THE BED OF THE TRUCK TO THE FRAME HAD DETERIORATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

CONSUMER STATED THAT ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE TIRES FAILED. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED AS A PORTION OF THE TREAD BEGAN PEELING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE NEXT MONTH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND CAUSED NEARLY $3,00 IN DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK. *JB
DRIVING TEXAS HIGHWAY 183 NEAR BERTRAM TX, RF DRIVERS SIDE BF GOODRICH BAJA CHAMPION TRUCK TIRE EXPLODED CAUSING VEHICLE TO SERVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I RECOVERED. TIRE EXPLODED WITH GREAT FORCE CAUSING THE OUTER TREAD TO DISLODGE CAUSING 4000 DOLLARS DAMAGE TO F250. THE TIRE SPILT INTO TWO EXPOSING THE WIRE STEEL BELTS. THE BELTS LOOK AS OF THEY WERE RIPPED APART SIMILAR TO IED EXPLOSIONS EXPERIENCED IN PERSIAN GULF. IT WAS COOL THAT SATURDAY IN THE MID TO UPPER 80'S. ALMOST KILLED ME AS THE VEHICLE FELL TO THE RIM IMMEDIATELY AFTER CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.
RECENTLY I TOOK MY FORD F250 SD TO HAVE THE TIRES CHECKED AND ROTATED. THEY WERE UNABLE. TO ALIGN MY VEHICLE DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR , VIBRATION ,AND SEPARATION ON BELT EDGES TO ME WAS OF GREAT CONCERN. THE MILEAGE ON MY FORD F250 IS ONLY 23,600 MILES. MY TRUCK IS A 2008 FORD F250 WITH THE ORIGINAL TIRES ,CONTINENTAL HAS A RECALL ALERT ON CERTAIN TIRES. THE MAKE AND SIZE ARE M+S LT 275/65 R18 123/120S. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD I TOOK IT TO THREE TIRE SHOP AND THEY ALL DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF THE TIRES...I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS THERE ANY THING YOU CAN DO TO REPLACE OR CREDIT ME ON A NEW SET OF TIRES...' TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250. WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND WOBBLED OUT OF CONTROL. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE TRACK BAR, THE FRONT STEERING DAMPER, THE CENTER LINK, AND THE FRONT SUSPENSION; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,000. MA 09/03/15
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND WOBBLED OUT OF CONTROL. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL HARSHLY IN ORDER FOR THE FAILURE TO SEIZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WOBBLING OF THE FRONT END CAUSED THE RADIATOR TO EVENTUALLY BURST. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE TIRES AND PERFORMED AN ALL WHEEL ALIGNMENT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
VIOLENT FRONT END SHAKING WHEN I RUN OVER A POT HOLE OR BAD SPOT ON THE INTERSTATE..

THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPUBLIC FORD LINCOLN LOCATED AT 1740 US-60, REPUBLIC, MO 65738, (417)732-2626, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 20-40MPH VEHICLES POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND TRUCK BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT VEH WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP ON THE ROAD..AFTER MAKING TURN ONTO ANOTHER STREET VEH STARTED PULLING LEFT..AFTER MOVING STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT FROM CENTER A FEW TIMES..POWER STEERING WAS CORRECTED FOR THE TIME OF DRIVING..THIS INSTANCE HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE AND IS USUALLY AT LOW SPEEDS.I TOOK VEH TO SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT VEH NEEDS STEERING GEAR. *TR
WHEN I TURNED OFF THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING WAS ALMOST STUCK- AS IF THE TRUCK HAD BEEN TURNED OFF. I MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND THEN IT STEERED OK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS 2008 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY NEW AT THE FORD STORE IN SAN LEANDRO, CA ON JULY 21, 2007 AND CONTINUE TO BE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 6.4 TURBO-DIESEL ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO TSB 07-26-2 (WIRING HARNESS DEFECT ON HPFP) ISSUED AUGUST 2007. ON THE MORNING OF MARCH 27, 2015, WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO A FREEWAY AND AT AN APPROXIMATE SPEED OF 50 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE DIED. BRAKING AND STEERING WERE ALSO DIMINISHED. I GOT LUCKY AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION AND COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP (BUD ADAMS - CASTRO VALLEY, CA; BAR#:228593 CAL#:66801). DIAGNOSIS REVEALED A SHORT IN THE WIRING OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP GASKET WIRING HARNESS (THE SUBJECT OF TSB 07-26-2 WHEREIN FORD RECOGNIZED ON OR ABOUT AUGUST OF 2007 A PROBLEM WITH UNPROTECTED WIRING WITHIN THE HPFP WIRING HARNESS). REPAIRS WERE EXTREMELY COSTLY ($3,791.89 REDUCED TO $2,591.89) BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THIS INSTANTANEOUS FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, INJURY OR DEATH; IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. I GOT LUCKY. I SEE OTHER COMPLAINANTS WHO HAD HOURS STUCK IN THE DESERT, SOMEONE WITH A LOAD OF CATTLE STUCK WITHOUT WARNING, THE LIST GOES ON. IN EACH REPORTED INSTANCE THE OPERATOR DESCRIBED AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER PLANT WITH NO WARNING. I URGE THE NTSB TO INVESTIGATE THESE UNPLANNED SHUT DOWNS OF THIS VEHICLE'S POWER PLANT. UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES THIS MAY LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, COLLISION, INJURY AND POSSIBLY DEATH. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE AUGUST OF 2007 YET HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. SOME MAY SAY THIS IS DUE TO THE LARGE COSTS INVOLVED TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE HPFP GASKET AND WIRING HARNESS (IN PART INVOLVING THE REMOVAL OF THE VEHICLE'S CAB). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE LOW ENGINE POWER WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR SEAL FRACTURED AND THE HOSES WERE LEAKING. THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
SLOWING DOWN EXITING TO THE LEFT OFF HI-WAY AFTER ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR AT 70MPH. BRAKE PEDAL FELT LIKE IT KICKED BACK, BOTH BRAKES AND STEERING LOCKED UP, SLID UNTO SHOULDER, THEN EVERYTHING RELEASED LIKE NORMAL. BROUGHT TO DEALER, THEY REPLACED HYRO-BOOSTER SYSTEM AND FLUIDS. ISSUE SEEMED CORRECTED, EXITING RIGHT ON HWY NO ISSUE, HOWEVER EVERYTHING LOCKED UP AGAIN FIRST TIME EXITING LEFT. AFTER 10 DAYS RESEARCHING ISSUE, DEALER ASSURED REPLACING DAMPER ASSEMBLY(?) AND ALL FOUR TIRES WOULD RESOLVE. ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN SAME DAY AS PICKUP. BEING TOWED BACK TO DEALER FOR THIRD ATTEMPT TO CORRECT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE MEDIAN. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE TIRE MILEAGE WAS 14,000 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL AND BOTH FRONT TIRES BEGAN SHAKING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,600.
INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. THE POWER STEERING WILL STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING DURING TURNS, THE STEERING BECOME VERY HARD LIKE (MANUAL). THE FAILURE LASTS ABOUT 4 SECONDS. NOT SURE HOW TO PROCEED, AFRAID TO DRIVE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250 SD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS CAPABLE OF MOVING, BUT FAILED TO DIRECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE MOUNT BOLTS WERE FRACTURED. THE BOLTS WERE REPLACED BY THE TECHNICIAN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
THE WIRES SUPPLYING POWER TO THE HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMP FRAYED. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE WIRES NOT BEING PROPERLY PROTECTED BY FORD (ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP). ONCE THE SHORT IN THE WIRE OCCURRED, MY TRUCK IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS GOING 65 MPH AND LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT SINCE MY TRUCK WAS SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. *TR
3/13 I BOUGHT A SET OF FEDERAL COURAGIA MT 35X12.50X20 TIRES AND 10 MONTHS LATER THE STEEL BELTS SEPARATED CAUSING TIRE FAILURE. 2/14 I BOUGHT ANOTHER SET OF THE SAME TIRES AND THEY SEPARATED AFTER 8 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS FRACTURED AND LEAKING. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, 20 STUDS, FOUR NUTS, AND TWO GASKETS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,851.
WAS TOLD BY DEALER, REAR CALIPER WAS DRAGGING, I REPLACED REAR BRAKES AND IN THE PROCESS NOTICED BOTH BACK CALIPERS WERE DEFECTIVE AT 62000 MILES. ONE PISTON ON ONE SIDE WAS ATTACHED TO THE PAD AND CRACKED IN HALF. THE OTHER SIDE, BOTH PISTONS WERE BROKEN. AT SUCH A SHORT MILEAGE INTERVAL, CALIPERS SHOULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE AND DRAGGING ON THE ROTORS. *TR
I TOOK MY 2008 FORD F-250 TO THE FORD DEALER TO HAVE AN ALIGNMENT AND OIL CHANGE. I HAD THE VEHICLE ALIGNED APPROXIMATELY EIGHT MONTHS AGO BUT THE ALIGNMENT HAS STEADILY DETERIORATED. THE VEHICLE HAS A LITTLE OVER 77,000 MILES. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. I HAVE NEVER BEEN "OFF-ROADING" OR "MUDDING" IN THE VEHICLE. ALL MILES ARE HIGHWAY/CITY MILES. LITTLE TOWING HAS BEEN DONE WITH THE VEHICLE. ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICES HAVE BEEN PROVIDED BY FORD DEALERSHIPS. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE VEHICLE NOR HAVE THERE BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS THAT WOULD EFFECT THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND STATED THAT MY STEERING GEAR BOX IS ABOUT TO GO OUT. THE FIX FOR THIS WOULD BE OVER $1100.00 WHICH I AM UNABLE TO AFFORD AT THIS TIME. WHILE DRIVING MY 08 FORD F250 SD, I EXPERIENCE SEVERE SHIMMY GOING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR SMALL DIP. I DON'T HAVE A LIFT AND HAVEN'T ALTERED ANY OF THE STOCK SUSPENSION PARTS. MILEAGE AND TIME FRAME ARE AN APPROX AS I WASN'T AWARE OF THIS SERVICE ISSUE PRIOR TO THIS WEEK. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELTS COME UNLATCHED WITHOUT BEING TOUCHED IN ANY WAY. SOMETIMES THE SEAT BELTS WON'T EVEN LATCH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FAULTY SEAT BELTS ARE UNRELIABLE TO PROTECT MY FAMILY. *TR
WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE, IT FEELS LIKE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND THE VEHICLE TURNS REALLY HARD AND IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RETURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO CENTER WITHOUT USING EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD AT 35 MPH WHEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP BUT HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DETERMINED THE GEAR BOX HAS FAILED. *TR
ON MY DAILY COMMUTE TO WORK I EXPERIENCED WHAT I HAVE LATER RESEARCHED TO FIND OUT IS CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED WHILE MAINTAINING A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHICH WAS THE SUGGESTED ROAD SPEED LIMIT, AFTER RIDING OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD MY FRONT LEFT END INITIATED INTO A VIOLENT SHAKING SENSATION THAT FELT AS THOUGH I HAD JUST BLOWN A TIRE. AFTER REDUCING MY SPEED ABRUPTLY AND NEARLY BEING REAR ENDED THE FRONT END REGAINED ITS CONTROL AND I CONTINUED AND ARRIVED SAFELY TO WORK AFTER REDUCING MY SPEED TO 45 MPH. I LOOKED IN THE WHEEL HUB AND UNDERNEATH BUT DID NOT SEE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY FROM PLANE SIGHT. I EXPERIENCED THE VIOLENT SHAKING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AND FOUND MYSELF EXPERIENCING IT MORE AND MORE AT LOWER SPEEDS AND ON SMALLER ROAD BUMPS/POT HOLES. AFTER DAY 2 I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR 6/30/14 WITH FORD SERVICE TO HAVE THE REPAIR & DIAGNOSES. THE NEXT DAY 6/27/14 WE HAD TO EVACUATE OUR JOB SITE IN LOUISIANA DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS AND POSSIBLE TORNADOS, ON MY COMMUTE HOME, THE SO CALLED DEATH WOBBLE OCCURRED AGAIN AND THIS TIME RESULTED IN LOOSING CONTROL AND CRASHING INTO A SMALL TREE BECAUSE OF THE VIOLENT SHAKING AND NECESSARY BRAKING TO REGAIN CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE WITH MINOR DAMAGES TO MY FRONT BUMPER. FORD IS HAVING TO REPLACE MY BALL JOINTS, BEARINGS AND TIE BAR THAT WILL COST WELL OVER $600 IN REPAIRS EXCLUDING A NEW FRONT BUMPER THAT I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX. I'M AFRAID THIS COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS INJURY/FATALITY IF NOT RECALLED AND FIXED. AFTER ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD IT SEEMS TO GO AWAY. WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN IT IS A VERY DRASTIC LEFT PULL THEN HARD TO THE RIGHT PULL. TODAY I REPLACED THE SECOND TIRE FROM A SET OF FOUR LT275/70R18E1 BFG COMMERCIAL T/A A/S TIRES PURCHASED ON NOVEMBER 23, 2010. BOTH TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES OF WEAR BECAUSE OF TREAD SEPARATION. FORTUNATELY, IN BOTH CASES THE ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE SEPARATION EVENTS HAPPENED ABOUT 3,000 MILES APART. BECAUSE OF THE DANGERS OF TREAD SEPARATION, I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED THE OTHER TWO TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. BECAUSE THOSE TWO TIRES WERE NOT CURRENTLY EXHIBITING SIGNS OF SEPARATION, THE TIRE SERVICE COMPANY WAS NOT ABLE TO OBTAIN ANY WARRANTY PRORATION. I COMPLAINED IN WRITING TO THE MANUFACTURER AND ASKED FOR A FULL REPLACEMENT SET. I RECEIVED A REPLY THAT BASICALLY SAID FOR ME TO WORK WITH THE TIRE SERVICE COMPANY AND THAT THE ONLY THING THEY WOULD AGREE TO WOULD BE A PRORATION. THIS RESPONSE IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AS IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT TREAD SEPARATION IS THE RESULT OF A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND SINCE TWO OUT OF THE FOUR TIRES FROM THE SAME SET EXHIBITED THIS DEFECT IT IS HIGHLY PROBABLE THAT IT WAS MERELY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE OTHER TWO EXHIBITED THE DEFECT AS WELL. I ALSO FOUND THE RESPONSE TO BE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE THIS COMPANY HAS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR SIMILAR TIRES AND THEREFORE SHOULD BE FULLY AWARE OF THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. *TR
