TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-350. WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET AND CRASHED INTO A FENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRACKET THAT SECURED THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE WAS LOOSE WHICH ALLOWED THE LEVER TO GO INTO DIFFERENT GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F350. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S GEAR SHIFTS INTO OVERDRIVE ON ITS OWN. AT SPEEDS LOWER THAN 40 MPH, IT SHIFTS VIOLENTLY INTO FIFTH GEAR. FORD DIAGNOSED THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AS THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND A SOLENOID. FORD ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS ONLY 19,080 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN A PERSISTENT FAILURE FOR MORE THAN TWO MONTHS. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 19,080 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR LEFT AXLE AT THE WHEEL JOINT COLLAPSED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE BOLT CAME LOOSE INSIDE THE SEAL COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK, FAILED VEHICLE ROLLED WITHOUT DEPRESSING BRAKE PETAL. FAILURE RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF IAN JOSEPH CAMPBELL 4/14/04 NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT PROBLEM. *NM
THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WHEN HE ENGAGED THE CLUTCH, THE CLUTCH WENT TO THE FLOOR, BECAME STUCK AND CONTINUED TO GOING FORWARD. THE CONSUMER COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF GEAR AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. THE CONSUMER THEN GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED THE CLUTCH WITH HIS HANDS AND THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS A FLUKE. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED DOWN THE HIGHWAY SHIFTING THE GEAR WITH NO PROBLEM UNTIL HE HAD COME TO A STOP, WAITING ON THE LIGHT TO CHANGE, AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT AN INTERSECTION. *MR *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH DOWN A HIGH WAY, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION, AT FIRST THE CONSUMER THOUGHT THERE WAS A TIRE BLOW OUT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED THE CONSUMER SAW THE AXLE HAD EXPLODED AND WAS ON FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES IN THIS INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB *JB
WHEN COMING TO A STOP CLUTCH WILL NOT DISENGAGE, AND PEDAL STAYS ON FLOOR.*AK
