CAR RANDOMLY STALLS. ON OCCASIONS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE IT STUTTERS, I EVEN TRIED TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND STILL NOTHING. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE ONLY THING THAT I WAS TOLD "THE COMPUTER CHIP IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED UPDATED." OK THIS HASN'T CORRECTED MY PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID THAT THIS COULD CAUSE ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN, I HOPE THAT THEY ARE NOT IN THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENS. I AM ASSUMELY THAT THE REASON THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET, IS BECAUSE FORD DOESN'T HAVE A REPAIR FOR THIS. BESIDES THE OBVIOUS, REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED INSTRUMENT PANEL TEMPORARILY STOPS WORKING AND ALL GAUGES GO TO ZERO. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW NODULE, BUT IT WAS NOT IMMEDIATE. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST DAILY FOR A FEW MINUTES. *TR
VEHICLE SHIFTS HARD WHEN HITTING PASSING GEAR ON HIGHWAY LIKE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING OR GOING OUT. LOSE ALL POWER AND CAR WILL BUCK BACK AND FORTH. ALSO DOES IT WHEN TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS AND THEN TRIES TO UPSHIFT WHEN ACCELERATING AND ENGINE WARM. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE. ALL GAUGES DROP TO ZERO. MULTIPLE DASH WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, DASHBOARD LIGHTS GO BLACK, TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT OPERATE. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. PROBLEM BEGAN 8/3/07. OFF AND ON SINCE. DEALER CAN NOT FIND PROBLEM. *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BLACKED OUT AND WHEN IT CAME BACK ON THE INSTRUMENTS ALL REGISTERED 0. AFTER THE INITIAL INCIDENT IT HAS CONTINUED TO ESCALATE. ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 26, 2010 THE PANEL BLACKED OUT AND THE CAR BOGGED DOWN AND I HAD TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD, TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART TO GET IT TO RUN NORMALLY. THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. ON JULY 11, 2007, THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ONE WEEK LATER. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON JULY 17, AUGUST 31, SEPTEMBER 25, OCTOBER 3, NOVEMBER 2, AND DECEMBER 18. THE DEALER DID NOT RETURN THE VEHICLE UNTIL FEBRUARY 23,2008. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE AGAIN AND THE DEALER PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 20, 2008. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 31,058.
2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WITH 51000 MILES HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. CAR ACCELERATES UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THEN LUNGES FORWARD OR BACKWARD LIKE IT WILL TAKE OFF ON ITS OWN. THE ENGINE SURGE CAN BE FELT EVEN STANDING STILL AT TIMES. TOLD IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR PART AS IT IS ON BACKORDER. THIS IS AN 800.00 REPAIR AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALMOST A MONTH. SOMEONE COULD BE INJURED WHEN THESE VEHICLES LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. I SEE MANY MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THIS MODEL CAR AND THIS PARTICULAR PART. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR WORSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE HEAT INDEX WAS ABOVE 80 DEGREES, THE CHECK TRANSMISSION AND WRENCH SYMBOLS WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE WOULD LOSE SOME OF ITS POWER WHENEVER THE CONTACT DECELERATED. THE CONTACT WOULD SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND UPON RESTART IT WOULD OPERATE AS NORMAL, BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD CONTINUE TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THE VALVE BODY WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
I PURCHASED A 2005 FORD 500 LTD. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM ATLANTIC CITY. THE DASHBOARD LIT UP LIKE I WAS STARTING THE CAR AND WENT INTO FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE. AFTER PULLING OVER, THE CAR RAN NORMAL. THE NEXT OCCURRENCE WAS WHEN THE CAR STARTED SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS DONE THIS ON NUMEROUS OCCASTIONS. THEN THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AGAIN AND THE REVERSE LIGHTS STAYED ON. THIS WINTER SEASON THE DOOR LATCHES WOULD NOT CATCH TO KEEP THE DOORS SHUT. AFTER IT RAINS THE REAR DOORS HAVE WATER SITTING INSIDE OF THEM. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE ON FORD'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLITEN (TSB). I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS ACCORDING TO THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS WORK DONE PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I ALSO HAD THE CAR WORKED ON FOR THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS FIXED. THE CAR IS STILL EXPERIENCING THESE PROBLEMS. I DON'T HAVE THE FINANCES TO CONTINUE TO HAVE WORK DONE AND THE PROBLEMS NOT BE FIXED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. ON MARCH 26, 2007, THE CONTACT HAD THE REAR BRAKES ON HIS VEHICLE CHECKED AND WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE BRAKES WERE IN GOOD CONDITION. ON MAY 10, 2007, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO FAIL. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD THE REAR BRAKES GRINDING METAL TO METAL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. THE CONTACT HAS THE REAR ROTORS TO SHOW THE UNUSUAL WEAR. THE CONTACT ALSO HAS THE REPAIR ORDERS FROM BOTH REPAIRS. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 38,585. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL FOR THIS CAR WAS PERFORMED ON THE LATCH OF THE DOOR FOR THIS VEHICLE. UPDATED 06/06/07 *TR
MY WIFE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD ABOUT A POSSIBLE SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE REAR BRAKES. THE NOTICE WAS RECEIVED AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AND WE PAID FOR THEM. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2005 FORD 500 NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2005. ON APRIL 17, 2007, 20 MONTHS I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND THE 16,000 MILE CHECK UP AND I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED NEW REAR BRAKES. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY REAR BRAKES SHOULD BE REQUIRED SINCE I DRIVE VERY LITTLE, AND I TOOK EXTREMELY GOOD CAR OF THE VEHICLES. I OWN TWO OTHER CARS. THIS APPEARED TO BE A MANUFACTURING OR AN ENGINEERING FLAW. I WAS SURPRISED ON HOW QUICKLY THE FORD DEALER KNEW TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES FOR PROBLEMS. THEY MUST BE DOING THIS ON A REGULAR BASIS. I CALLED FORD, AND THEY SAID THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE BRAKES WAS ONLY FOR 12 MONTHS, VERY CONVENIENT. NHTSA SHOULD START AN INVESTIGATION GIVING THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM.AK
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WITH A CURRENT MILEAGE OF 29,345 MILES. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR 191 MILES THE CONTACT HEARD A THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS CORROSION BETWEEN THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. BOTH REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER 9,319 MILES. WHEN THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE 90% CORRODED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT CALLED FORD, AND WAS TOLD NOT TO USE THE BRAKES AS FREQUENTLY. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES DOOR LATCH FREEZES AT TIMES, DEALER PERFORMED RECALL ON VEHICLE. UPDATE 05/04/07*TR
THE FORD FIVE HUNDRED HAD REAR BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR FAILURES AFTER ONLY 22,137 MILES. THIS REQUIRED REPLACING THE PADS AND ROTORS AT MY EXPENSE. MY LAST CAR REQUIRED NEW BRAKES AT 53,000 MILES. IN ADDITION ONLY THE REAR BRAKES WERE WARN OUT. THE FRONT PADS WERE STILL OKAY. IN MY OPINION THIS WAS CLEARLY EITHER A DESIGN FAILURE OR A MATERIALS FAILURE. I CONTACTED FORD, AND WAS TOLD THAT BRAKES WERE A WEAR ITEM, AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING. FROM THE NUMBER OF CASES OF THIS TYPE FAILURE ON THE FORD FIVE HUNDRED AND THE MERCURY MONTEGO, ON THIS WEB SITE I WOULD THINK AN INVESTIGATION WOULD BE STARTED. *AK
ROUGH ACCELERATION FROM STOP FOR YEARS. AFTER 218,000 MILES ENGINE SHUTS OFF REPORTING ENGINE FAIL-SAFE MODE. WILL RESTART AFTER SITTING ON SIDE OF ROAD FOR COUPLE, 5-MINUTES. DEALER STATES BAD THROTTLE BODY - $900.00 REPAIR. APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S TWO REAR ROTORS HAVE FAILED. SHE HAD BOTH OF THEM REPLACED ALONG WITH THE BRAKE PADS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A GROOVE IN THE REAR ROTORS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW THAT FORD HAS JUST RECENTLY NOTICED IN THE FORD FIVE HUNDREDS AND FREESTYLES. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE. FORD STATED THAT THE VENDOR OF THE PARTS IS FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTIFIED THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 40,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.

IN MARCH 2007 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, BUT THE RESULTS SHOWED NO AIR BAG FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER SINCE MARCH 27, 2007, AND THEY WERE STILL UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER ON APRIL 23, 2007, AND WAS INFORMED THAT A PART HAD BEEN ORDERED. THE DEALER DID NOT MENTION THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON WITH THE FORD FIVE HUNDREDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS , AND DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT DID INDEED REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 23,445, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,261.*AK

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES ON HIS VEHICLE. HE FOUND IT TO BE UNUSUAL SINCE THE VEHICLE IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AND ONLY HAD 19,500 MILES. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE RECEIVING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE BRAKES FOR THAT MAKE OF VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 20,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,500.
FORD RECALL NO. 06S45 DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. OUR FORD FIVE HUNDRED DRIVERS DOOR FAILED TO LATCH THE DAY AFTER A TRIP THROUGH THE CAR WASH IN BELOW FREEZING WEATHER. MY WIFE TRIED TO LATCH THE DOOR MANY TIMES AND LOCKED AND UNLOCKED IT SEVERAL TIMES. IT FINALLY LATCHED. THE LOCAL DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND LUBED IT (AGAIN). THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST ONE HE HAD SEEN. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. SHE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE BUT WAS UNABLE TO BECAUSE THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED AND RUINED THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS REPAIRED. DRIVING MY 2005 FORD 500 WITH 36, 216 MILES TO WORK IN A.M. ON 1/22/07, SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED CAR GOING FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. HARD TO CONTROL, HAD TO GREATLY REDUCE SPEED TO KEEP CONTROL OF VEHICLE. UPON ACCELERATING, FELT AS IF I WAS HAVING TO PULL THE VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD. TOOK IMMEDIATELY TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SWAY BAR IN THE REAR WAS BAD. SERVICE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS VERY UNUSUAL AND ADVISED ME TO CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY. PHONED FORD AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO RESEARCH THE SWAY BAR PROBLEM MORE AND WOULD CONTACT ME WITHIN 2-3 BUSINESS DAYS. CURRENTLY WAITING ON PARTS FOR REPAIR, AS DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KEEP THEM IN STOCK DUE TO THIS BEING A VERY RARE OCCURRENCE. SERVICE FEELS THAT FACTORY SWAY BAR MUST HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2005 FORD 500 WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 34900 MILES AND HIS REAR BREAK PADS HAVE WORN OUT. THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT HIS REAR BREAK PADS ARE GRINDING INTO THE ROTORS, BUT HIS FRONT BREAK PADS ARE LESS THAN HALF WAY WARN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS SERVICE BULLETIN (06-22-17) FROM FORD WHICH STATES THAT DEFECTIVE MATERIALS USED ON THE REAR BREAK PADS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (WEBSTER DUDLEY LINCOLN MERCURY) AND THEY STATED THAT HE WAS NOT COVERED BY FORD AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT ALSO CALLED FORD AND STATED THAT IT IS A WEAR ITEM AND IS NO LONGER COVERED. *NM
TOOK MY 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION (17K MILES), 12 MONTHS OLD. WAS CALLED BY THE FORD DEALER SERVICE MANGER AND TOLD I NEEDED REAR BRAKE PADS ASAP!. I QUESTION HOW A CAR THAT HAS ONLY BEEN OWNED FOR 12 MONTHS NEED BRAKES (AND ONLY REAR ONES!). TOLD FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND RESIGNED THE PADS, BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $250 FOR THE BRAKE JOB (I DECLINED). MULTIPLE CONTACTS (VIA EMAIL) TO FORD HQTS. HAVE BEEN A WASTE OF TIME. NO RESPONSE TO THE PROBLEM, NO ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *NM
I JUST READ A REPORT THAT YOU WERE INVESTIGATING CASES OF UNEXPECTED LUNGING IN 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLE WAGONS. I OWN A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED AND I HAVE HAD THAT SAME SITUATION HAPPEN TO ME ON RANDOM OCCASIONS. I HAVE ENTERED A RANDOMLY CHOSEN DATE BELOW BECAUSE THIS HAS HAPPENED ONLY A FEW TIMES OVER THE LAST SIX YEARS. *TR
UPON STARTING CAR AND A FEW MINUTES AFTER DRIVING THE CAR, THE CAR STARTS TO SPIT AND SPUTTER AND TOTALLY SHUTS DOWN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 8 TIMES IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS AND HAS LEFT ME TO SWERVE ON THE HIGHWAY BEFORE IT SHUTS COMPLETELY DOWN SO I AM NOT IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION (COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF FLOWING TRAFFIC). FORD AGREES THAT THE INCIDENT OCCURRED DUE TO PREMATURE WEAR ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THE CONTACT WAS LIABLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE CONTACT MAINTAINED THISWAS NOT A WEAR ISSUE INSTEAD ITWAS A SAFETY/FAILURE ISSUE. FORD REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE CONTACT, BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD BECOME INOPERATIVE AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR REVERSE SENSOR WOULD ONLY OPERATE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND THE REVERSE LIGHTS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATE WHILE IN DRIVE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A HARD RESET ON THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD MOCO. TOOK THE WIFES VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, THE TECHNICIAN CALLED AND SAID THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND WE TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO WORK THAT EVENING AND WHEN I GOT OFF WORK MY FREIND AND I THAT RIDES TO WORK WITH ME NOTICED THAST THE DOOR STILL WASN'T SHUTTING PROPERLY. I SLAMMED THE DOOR 3 OR4 TIMES AND THOUGHT IT HAD LATCHED AS THE DOME LIGHT WENT OUT. I DROPPED MY FREIND OFF AT HIS HOME AND WAS HEADING TO A NEARBY CONVENIENCE STORE WHEN THE DOOR POPPED OPEN. I WAS STARTLED AND WAS TRYING TO CLOSE THE DOOR, WHILE I WAS DISTRACTED WITH THE DOOR I WENT OFF THE ROAD AND STRUCK A POWER POLE AND CHAIN LINK FENCE. I TOOK MY 2005 FORD 500 WITH 18,000 MILES TO THE DEALER FOR A NOISE IN THE BACK OF THE CAR AND AFTER REPLACING THE STRUT UNDER WARRANTY TO TAKE CARE OF THE NOISE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDED NEW REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS. I PURCHASED A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED IN JULY 2005. I HAD NOTICED IMMEDIATELY THAT A LARGE AMOUNT OF BLACK BRAKE DUST ACCUMULATED ON THE REAR WHEELS. THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN 80 TO 90 PERCENT OF THE TIME ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MINIMAL BRAKING. AT 6000 MILES I NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS HAD WORN OUT AND RUINED THE ROTORS. THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS AND BRAKES ON WARRANTY. AT 32,000 MILES DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE THE SHOP MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE GONE. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR AND HAD COMPLETED THE LAST BRAKE REPLACEMENT AND ASKED THEM IF PREMATURE REAR BRAKE WEAR WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE 500 HUNDRED. THEY DID NOT RESPOND. I ASKED THEM IF THEY THOUGHT IT UNUSUAL FOR THE BRAKES TO WEAR OUT TWICE IN 32,000 MILES? I TOLD THEM THAT ALL OF MY OTHER VEHICLES WHICH WEAR/ARE DRIVEN IN SIMILAR CONDITIONS USUALLY DO NOT NEED A BRAKE REPLACEMENT UNTIL THEY ARE AT 80,000 MILES OR MORE? THEY TOLD ME THAT IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE MY DRIVING HABITS. I DO NOT DRIVE ANY DIFFERENTLY NOW THAT I HAVE OVER THE PAST 25 YEARS. THEY TOLD ME ON THIS SECOND VISIT FOR A BRAKE PROBLEM THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME TO INSPECT THE BRAKES AND IF THEY DID NOT FIND A MECHANICAL PROBLEM, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. FOR SOME REASON TWICE NOW THE REAR BRAKES ARE FAILING LONG BEFORE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS HAVE EVENT 25% OF THEIR WEAR GONE. PURCHASED FORD FIVE HUNDRED IN FEBRUARY 2006, AN SEL AUTOMATIC. AROUND 15,000 MILES BEGAN NOTICING TRANSMISSION ISSUES, MOSTLY HESITATION WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR. FIRST MAJOR INCIDENT OCCURRED OCT. 22, 2006 WHILE TRAVELING AT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE FREEWAY, ENGINE REVVED WHILE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL BUT VEHICLE SLOWED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THEN IT PUNCHED VIOLENTLY AND RESUMED DRIVING NORMALLY. WE PULLED OVER THINKING SOMETHING MAJOR WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. AFTER WE RETURNED HOME, THESE PROBLEMS WERE VERY INTERMITTENT. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE RE-ENGAGING. WE BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER THE SECOND WEEK IN NOVEMBER. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THEY SAID THERE WAS A COMPUTER TECHNICIAN LOG THAT SUGGESTED A RESET. THEY RESET THE COMPUTER, CHANGED THE OIL, CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, ETC. A FEW DAYS LATER THE TRANSMISSION WAS BACK TO SLIPPING INTERMITTENTLY. ON NOVEMBER 20, 2006, THE SEVERE PUNCHING BEGAN AGAIN, SO BAD THIS TIME THE VEHICLE ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WE HAD TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO 2ND BEFORE IT ENGAGED AND WE WERE ABLE TO ACCELERATE. SINCE WE WERE ON VACATION, WE HAD TO CONTINUE ON OUR TRIP WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEAR. WHEN WE RETURNED FROM OUR TRIP, BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WE WENT. EVEN BRAKING AND STRAIGHT TRACKING ON THE ROAD WITH THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE. *JB
BRAND NEW 2005 FORD 500 PURCHASED ON SEPTEMBER 24 2005 BEGAN AT 15000 MILES WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AT 30,000 MILES. MY JOB IS 100% SALES AND MY CAR IS MY ONLY REVENUE PROVIDER. AT 35,000 CAR SHOWING PROBLEMS WHEN HITTING THE GAS, IT WOULD NOT RUN. AT 39,000 MILES AN ELECTRIC SHORT CIRCUIT. AT 39,000 I ASKED THE DEALER TO RECHECK THE WHOLE CAR THAT IT WAS SHOWING TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE PROBLEMS. AT 43,000 MILES NOW IS SITTING IN THE FORD DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED AT SINCE LAST FRIDAY SEPT 22,2006. THE FORD DEALER MECHANICAL DIRECTOR WAS INSIDE THE CAR AND ME TEST DRIVING IT, AND COULD NOT BELIEVE THE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. HIS WORDS WERE' IF THIS WAS MY CAR I WOULD NOT BE SITTING IN IT, IT'S A RISK TO ANYONE'S LIFE" TODAY, FORD INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE TO BRING THE TRANSMISSION DOWN AND OPEN IT. THEY ASK ME EVERY TIME TO SIGN IN ACCEPTANCE THEY WILL PAY FOR EVERYTHING. IT IS BEING REPORTED TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT TOMORROW, I HAVE NOTIFIED THE BANK WHO GAVE ME THE LOAN. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ALL THE CAR RENTAL EXPENDITURES I'VE HAD TO INCUR IN ADDITION TO CONSTANT REPAIRS PRIOR TO CAR REACHING 1 YEAR. *JB
CONTINENTAL TIRES (215/60/17), CHUNKS OF THE TIRE ARE COMING OFF. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER ABOUT ISSUE, DID NOT SEEM TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE ISSUE (JOSE). FORD ALSO WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY TOO DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED, HOWEVER BOTH PARTIES ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES. A COMMON QUESTION OF BOTH WAS, DO I DRIVE ON GRAVEL ROADS. I TOLD THEM I DID NOT, HOWEVER FORD DEALER SAID THAT THERE WAS SHELL AND SMALL GRAVEL ON UNDERSIDE OF CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN ROADS REPLACE IN THE AREA THAT I HAVE DRIVEN ON. BOTTOM LINE. I NOW HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THE TIRE SAFETY ON MY CAR AND BOTH FORD AND CONTINENTAL WILL REPLACE THEM FOR A COST, BUT BOTH REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE A TIRE "ISSUE" AT THIS TIME. WILL SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. I AT ONE TIME OWNED A FORD EXPLORER AND WENT THOUGH THOSE "ISSUES". HAVE THERE BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TIRES ON THE FORD 500 OR CONTINENTAL TIRES? COULD SOMEONE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND ASSIST ME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. *JB
I HAVE HAD MY REAR BRAKES ON MY FORD 500 CHANGED TWICE. VEHICLE HAD 53,000 MILES ON WHEN SECOND BRAKE JOB WAS DONE. DEALERSHIP STATED "THEY ARE SEE THE REAR BRAKES GO ABOUT EVERY 20,000 MILES. HEAVY BRAKE DUST AND HEAT AROUND BRAKES ARE ALSO A CONCERN. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER SEEMED TO IGNORE THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT IT WAS MINIMAL. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO BUCKLE HIS SEAT BELT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND NOTICED THAT THE SEAM AT THE BELT WAS LOOSE. THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT WOULD NOT DIM. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS CONNECTED TO THE AIR BAG SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $129. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE WASHING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE HOTTER THAN THE FRONT BRAKES AND THEY BEGAN MAKING A SQUEAKY NOISE WHEN APPLIED AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS ROAD HAZARDS. COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL OVER WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE TIRE WAS REMOVED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THERE WAS A PINHOLE IN THE TIRE THAT POSSIBLY CAUSED THE INITIAL BLOWOUT. THE TIRE WAS SHIPPED TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE TIRE WAS A PIRELLI P225/55R18, DOT # N9WNF7. UPDATED 10/31/2006 - PIRELLI REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES UNDER THE CONDITION THAT ALL FOUR TIRES BE SENT TO THEM. *NM
