TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 5 MPH IN THE REVERSE POSITION, AN UNEXPECTED INCREASE OF ACCELERATION OCCURRED. IMMEDIATELY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY BE RELATED TO THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. J
SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE. HAS OCCURRED ON FOUR (4) SEPARATE OCCASIONS. FORD DEALER CAN FIND NO CODES, THEREFORE REFUSES TO REPAIR. AS WITH MOST SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, I SUSPECT THE THROTTLE BODY IS DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
MY WIFE HAS A 2007 FORD 500. SINCE 40K MILES, SHE'S HAD CONTINOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SURGING AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. I ALSO HAD A 2007 MODEL 500 AS A COMPANY CAR. I BEGAN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS IN/AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH OUR COMPANY WERE ALSO DRIVING 500'S AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. FORD SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO GREEN FORD IN GREENSBORO, NC AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLES WERE REPAIRED OUT OF WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. AS A RESULT AND AFTER THE VEHICLE ALMOST SURGED INTO OUR DAUGHTER, I TOOK MY WIFE'S CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TODAY. THE SERVICE REP ACKNOWLEDGED "SOME PROBLEMS" WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT ADVISED IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM IN ALL VEHICLES. I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MY 500 AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE OTHER COMPANY CARS. I EVEN OFFERED TO PROVIDE HIM THE NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE OTHER DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS TOLD THEY WERE IN A "DIFFERENT DISTRICT" AND HAD A DIFFERENT REPRSENTATIVE. I ASKED IF THEY COMMUNICATED WITH EACH OTHER TO WHICH I RECEIVED AN INTELLIGEIBLE RESPONSE. I WORK AS AN INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR AND WILL ENSURE THIS PROBLEM IS NOT OVERLOOKED. I'VE ALMOST WRECKED THE CAR 3 TIMES IN OUR CARPORT AND PARKING LOTS AS A RESULT OF SUDDEN SURGE. IT APPEARS TOYOTA IS NOT THE ONLY CAR COMPANY WITH SUDDEN SURGES AND/OR PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE PROBLEMS. WE'VE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT NOBODY HAS BEEN INJURED, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE SOMEONE SHOULD BE HURT OR WORSE BEFORE A COMPANY DOES THE RIGHT THING AND TAKES A PROACTIVE RESPONSE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM. CAR: 2007 FORD 500 LIMITED. MOVING SHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR TO DRIVE, AFTER ABOUT 1 SECOND THE CAR "LURCHES" FORWARD OR BACKWARD. I KEEP THE BRAKE LOCKED DOWN WHEN CHANGING GEARS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS UNTIL I'M SURE IT WON'T JUMP.THIS IS DANGEROUS. WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED HAPPENING, I ALMOST RAN OVER SOMEONE IN A PARKING LOT AS I WANTED TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I TOOK THIS IN FOR SERVICE AND MENTIONED IT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. AS HE DROVE THE CAR AROUND TO THE BACK, HE SAID HE NOTICED IT TOO AND ASKED THE TRANSMISSION MAN TO LOOK IT OVER. SINCE I WAS HAVING THE TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGED, HE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE RELATED TO OLD FLUID. (CAR HAD ABOUT 70K MILES AT THE TIME). ITS ABOUT 5K MILES SINCE THE SERVICE AND THE CARIS AS BAD OR WORSE THAN IT HAS EVER BEEN. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE COMPUTER GETTING A WRONG SIGNAL FROM ONE OF THE THROTTLE SENSORS AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SURGE. DEALER SAID HE HAD NOT SEEN THE PROBLEM BEFORE AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING BUT SINCE ONLY MY WIFE AND I DRIVE THE CAR, WE ARE COMPENSATING BY HOLDING THE BRAKE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AFTER MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER. I HOPE YOU CAN IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AND LET ME KNOW OR HAVE FORD PUT OUT A SAFETY RECALL AND A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THANKS *TR

I OWN A 2007 FORD 500 & HAVE RECENTLY BEEN HAVING A ISSUE WITH SURGING WHEN I HAVE MY CAR IN THE PARK POSITION & PUT IT IN DRIVE. THEN IT STARTED SURGING WHEN I AM IN REVERSE NOW. I SPOKE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN I HAD MY OIL CHANGED & THEY ADVISED THAT I HAD TO HAVE A UPDATE THAT COST $81.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY KNEW EXACTLY ALL ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHEN I STARTED EXPLAINING IT TO THEM. IT TAKES ABOUT 1 HOUR TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM GOING NEXT WEEK TO HAVE IT DONE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED AN INTERMITTENT FAILURE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS WHEN SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AS SOON AS SHE TOOK HER FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE STOPPED WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL INTERMITTENTLY AFTER THE JERKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION KIT BUT AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP AFTER THE SECOND ATTEMPT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
CAR WAS JERKING ON ACCELERATION, WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CODES EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHT WAS FLASHING IT IS STILL DOING IT ONLY WORSE THE LIGHT IS ON SOLID NOW AND THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. IT WOULD ALSO JERK WHEN TAKEN OUT OF PARK OR WHEN IN TRAFFIC SITTING IDLE, ONCE I THOUGHT I WAS REAR ENDED. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANICS AND THEY TOLD ME THIS IS 'NORMAL' BEHAVIOR AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT WILL NOT EVEN STAY RUNNING NOW WHEN WARM AND IT DIES. *TR
2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED OPERATING ON THE MA. TURNPIKE... STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR TO KICK INTO PASSING GEAR TO PASS A TRAILER TRUCK AND ACCELERATED TO APP 75 MPH...... LIFTED FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR, BUT CAR STAYED IN PASSING GEAR AND ACCELERATED FURTHER..(TO APP 90 MPH BEFORE EPISODE ENDED) APPLIED BRAKES AND FOUGHT THE ACCELERATION WHILE TRYING TO BRAKE... TRIED PUSHING THE "OFF" SWITCH FOR CRUISE CONTROL (EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL TO NO AVAIL..... TRIED LIFTING GAS PEDAL UP WITH TOE OF MY FOOT...NO RESULTS.... HAVE NO FLOOR MATS IN THE CAR THAT MIGHT HAVE TANGLED...... FINALLY STOMPED THE GAS TO THE FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES IN A RAPID SUCCESSION AND ACCELERATOR LET UP..... AFTER CHANGING MY SHORTS, TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE EPISODE.... BUT IT DID NOT GET STUCK AGAIN EVEN THOUGH I STOMPED IT INTO PASSING GEAR SEVERAL TIMES.... IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN SINCE THEN (1 DAY AGO OR APP. 300 MILES OF DRIVING).. *TR
2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED SURGES FORWARD IN PARKING LOTS, STOP LIGHTS, GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR PARK TO REVERSE. ALMOST HITTING CARS, PEDESTRIANS WHEN IT SURGES BACKWARD AND FORWARD. *TR
WITH A/C ON I START CAR. PUT CAR IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. ENGINE SURGES THEN SETTLES DOWN, THIS IS QUITE DANGEROUS. BROUGHT IT IN FOR WARRANTY HELP. WAS INFORMED THAT IT MAY BE THROTTLE BODY AND THROTTLE BODY IS NOT COVERED IN DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. FORD, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? VEHICLE HAS 41,170 MILES, THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ITEM APPARENTLY RAN OUT AT 36,000 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE MORE THAN ANYTHING. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. PUTTING CAR IN GEAR AND HAVING THE ENGINE SURGE IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER. *TR
SIDE/FRONT DRIVER IMPACT, GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, AND NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS DAMAGED TO THE POINT THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE CAR. THIS WAS NOT A MINOR ACCIDENT. *TR
2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED TIRES ARE CRACKING, LOCAL TIRE DEALER SAYS IT SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM....SAFETY IS NOT THEIR FIRST CONCERN I GUESS. HE SAYS THE PIRELLI P6 TIRES THAT ARE OEM ONLY HAVE 50,000 MILE RATING TO THEM, I HAVE 37,000 MILES AND THEY ARE ROTTING. TIRES KEEP GOING LOW. *TR
ENGINE IDLE SPEED IS EXCESSIVE AT INTERMITTENT INTERVALS WHILE TRANSMISSION IS IN REVERSE, CAUSES VEHICLE TO INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATE AT INAPPROPRIATE SPEEDS. LOCAL REPAIR SHOP SCANNED VEHICLES REPAIR CODES, DETERMINED IT TO BE A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP, SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AFTER THEY SCANNED IT. VEHICLE, WENT INTO A "CREEP MODE" IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING ONE OF THE INSTANCES, BUT THE COMPUTER RESET ITSELF AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES.*TR
ON JUNE 25, 2009, OUR CLIENTS WERE DRIVING THEIR FORD 500 4DR. SEDAN WHEN THEY WERE BROADSIDED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE SIDE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, CAUSING AT LEAST IN SUBSTANTIAL PART, SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURIES TO THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED IN THE IMPACT. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN TWO YEARS. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH OCCURRING AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT OPENED ON ITS OWN FROM TIME TO TIME. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND WAS PULLING INTO A SPACE TO PARK. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, AS I WAS JUST EASING TO A STOP. THE ENGINE SURGED AND MY CAR LUNGED FORWARD, ALMOST HITTING THE VEHICLE PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE, AT ONE TIME ALMOST HITTING A PEDESTRIAN. I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BREAK CONSTANTLY AND HOPE I CAN GET THE CAR STOPPED BEFORE SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS HIT, AND PRAY I DON'T HAVE TO USE THE ACCELERATOR AT THE LOW LEVELS OF SPEED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A FLAT TIRE AND THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE IT WITH THE MECHANICAL JACK THAT CAME EQUIPPED WITH THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS LIFTED FROM THE GROUND, THE JACK AND TOOTH GEAR FAILED. THE VEHICLE DROPPED TO THE GROUND, BUT WAS NOT DAMAGED. THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE JACK, BUT THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT ALL OF THE JACKS MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 7,000.
HAVE 2007 FORD 500 HAD A FLAT TIRE ON RT. REAR. TOOK CAR TO DEALER TO FIX. THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY A CRACKED WHEEL. POSSIBLY HITTING BUMP IN ROAD. IT HAS 18444 MILES RARELY DRIVEN AND HAS NEVER HIT A BUMP VERY HARD OR AT ALL. BUMPER TO BUMPER WILL NOT COVER THE COST, AND WE BELIEVE THIS IS A FAULTY WHEEL FROM FACTORY. PLEASE HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHILE IN DRIVE AND BACKWARD WHILE IN REVERSE, WHETHER A FOOT WAS ON OR OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE STEERING BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT ACCOMPANIED BY AN ABNORMAL CLUNKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 28,000 MILES AFTER THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,100.
THE PAINT IS BUBBLING UP ALL ALONG THE LOWER EDGE OF THE HOODLINE. THERE ARE NO CHIPS VISIBLE, IF YOU TOUCH THE BUBBLE , THE PAINT FLAKES OFF & EXPOSES THE RUST UNDERNEATH THE PAINT. DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS NOT COVERED AFTER THE 3YR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY OR THE 5YR/ UNLIMITED RUST THROUGH WARRANTY. WAITING TO GET QUOTE TO RE-PAINT THE HOOD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE THE VEHICLE LUNGED BACKWARD AND CRASHED INTO A MAILBOX. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONSTANTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE TPS SENSOR WITHIN THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
IT STARTED OUT AS A LOUD THUMP THAT ROCKED THE CAR WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR... THAT HAS CONTINUED BUT NOW IT ALSO WHEN ACCELERATING HESITATES THEN YOU HEAR THE THUMP AND THEN IT WILL ACCELERATE. I HAVE HAD THIS AT MY DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES NOW AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. THEY CONTINUALLY SAY THE CANNOT "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE A AIRLEAK IN THE CAR THAT IS SO LOUD YOU CANNOT HEAR THE RADIO WHEN DRIVING ON A INTERSTATE. THEY ARE BLAMING THAT ON THE ANTENNA ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. I HAVE LESS THEN 20,000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND A EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO TO MAKE THEM FIX IT. I WORRY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS, I HAVE A NEWBORN AND AM AFRAID IF IT IS THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH IT SOUNDS LIKE, THAT IT COULD SEIZE UP AND POSSIBLY CAUSE A ACCIDENT. *TR
2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WITH 35750 MILES DEALER STATES THE CAR NEEDS REAR BRAKES AND REAR ROTORS. THE REAR BRAKES PADS ARE SHOT AND THE ROTORS ARE GROOVED. DEALER STATES THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY UNDER THE FORD CAMPAIGN OF 07N10. DEALER STATES THIS CAMPAIGN ISSUE EXISTED ONLY WITH FORD FIVE HUNDRED MANUFACTURED ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 28, 2006. OURS SUPPOSEDLY WAS BUILT FEBRUARY 2007. FORD STATES THIS PROBLEM WILL NOT EXIST ON ANY FORD FIVE HUNDRED'S MANUFACTURED AFTER THE DATE OF NOVEMBER 28,2006. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,887 UPDATED 7/12/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK OR NEUTRAL OR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. PURCHASED A NEW FORD FIVE HUNDRED IN 2007. HAVE KEPT UP WITH ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE. AFTER PUTTING ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, I STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I WOULD COME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, MAILBOX, OR DRIVE-THRU AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES AND THE CAR WOULD "JUMP" -- ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. MY FOOT WOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE "REPROGRAMMED". I SPECIFICALLY ASKED COULD IT BE A PROBLEM WITH FUEL SYSTEM AND WAS TOLD NO. I HAD THE WORK COMPLETED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS TO THIS DAY. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WITH REAR END COLLISIONS. FINALLY AS I WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND HIT A POST IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE.
I HAVE A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WITH CONTINENTAL P215-60R17 TIRES. ON DEC 14, 2007, AFTER MY TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED AT TOWN EAST FORD IN MESQUITE TEXAS, I NOTICED A LARGE BUBBLE IN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ALONG THE SEAM OF THE TIRE. SAID TIRE ID# DOT CODE A3KT 3MT 3906.THE TIRES HAD APPROX 21,250 MILES AT THE TIME. THEY HAVE BEEN ROTATED AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND I CAN SHOW THAT THE TIRE INFLATION IS CHECKED REGULARLY WHEN I GET THE OIL CHANGED. TOWN EAST FORD TOLD ME THE TIRE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS IT WAS CONSIDERED ROAD HAZARD. ORIGINALLY I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO POTHOLES, THEN LATER THAT IT WAS DUE TO A NAIL THAT CAUSED LOW TIRE PRESSURE. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF A NAIL, NOR DID THEY SHOW ME THE DAMAGE. I CONTEND THE TIRE IS FAULTY; I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE AT MY OWN COST. I AM CURRENTLY SENDING CORRESPONDENCE TO TOWN EAST FORD, CONTINENTAL TIRE, NHTSA, AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *TR

HEATING ELEMENT FOR DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT FAILED AGAIN 2-12-09. BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE PART IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. SHE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS OF APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY RESET THE COMPUTER SYSTEM BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHERE THE COMPUTER WAS AGAIN RESET AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUES TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,271.
SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NEW I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND ONLINE, THAT THE OPTIONAL BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ROCKER SWITCH IS WIRED IMPROPERLY. THAT IS, WIRED IN REVERSE. THE MOUNTED SWITCH CLEARLY DEPICTS A FOOT OVER A PEDAL IN THE CENTER WITH AN ARROW POINTING 'UP' AT THE TOP OF THE SWITCH AND AN ARROW POINTING 'DOWN' AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SWITCH. THIS CONTROLS THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT OF BOTH PEDALS FROM THE FLOOR AND IS DESIGNED TO PLACE THE PEDALS WITHIN REACH OF THE OPERATOR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY HAVE DEPRESSED THIS SWITCH WHILE IN MOTION PUSHING THE TOP PORTION OF THE ROCKER SWITCH ASSUMING THE PEDALS WOULD RISE 'UP' AS INDICATED BY THE ARROWS ON THE SWITCH. WRONG!! PRESSING THE SWITCH IN THE UPWARD POSITION 'LOWERS' THE PEDALS TO THE FLOOR, WHILE PRESSING THE LOWER PORTION OF THE SWITCH, WITH THE ARROW POINTING 'DOWN', ACTUALLY RAISES THE PEDALS UP, CLOSER TO THE OPERATOR. AFTER PRESSING THE SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES IN THE UP POSITION AND BELIEVING THE PEDALS WERE AT THEIR MAXIMUM HEIGHT, SEVERAL OF THE DRIVERS IN THE HOUSE WHOM HAVE SHORT LEGS, WERE IMMEDIATELY PANICKED AND DESPERATELY BEGAN TRYING TO COMPENSATE BY READJUSTING THE SEAT TO BE WITHIN REACH OF THE BRAKE! A SCARY AND DANGEROUS CONDITION WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION! IF FORD REFUSES TO SIMPLY REVERSE THE OPERATION OF THE SWITCH, MAYBE A SAFETY INTERLOCK COULD BE DEVISED TO PREVENT OPERATION WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN GEAR. *TR

DURING AN INSPECTION, THE CONTACT REALIZED THAT THE PLATE NUT WAS NOT PLACED DEEP ENOUGH INTO THE PANEL, WHICH PREVENTED THE FUEL FILLER NECK FROM BEING SECURELY FASTENED TO THE FENDER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL FILLER NECK ADAPTER WAS NOT SECURELY ATTACHED. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS, HOWEVER, IT CREATED A LARGER GAP. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE IS A STILL A 1/8" GAP BETWEEN FUEL FILLER AND NECK ADAPTOR AND RIGHT REAR FENDER PANEL. THE AC IS NOT WORKING ON MY FORD 500. IT STARTED THIS SEASON. I HAVE NOT HAD TROUBLE WITH IT PRIOR TO THIS YEAR. I HAVE NOT SEEN A RECALL ON THIS BUT MY SISTER ALSO HAS A 500 AND HERS ISN'T WORKING AS WELL. MANY COMPLAINTS ARE BEING LISTED. I HAVE NOT TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO BEING OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR. PLEASE, PLEASE CONSIDER A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. MANY 500 OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT'S ONE THING FOR IT TO HAPPEN TO A SMALL NUMBER, BUT NUMBERS ARE INCREASING WITH THIS ISSUE. *TT
DRIVING A FORD 500, INVOLVED IN A CRASH. CAR WAS HIT BROADSIDE BY ANOTHER DRIVER GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, CAUSING THE WHEEL TO FOLD IN, THE BACK OF THE FRONT QUARTER PANEL AND DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ARE CRUSHED. DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.

THE BATTERY WAS TAKEN BACK TO WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BATTERY. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THERE WAS AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 44,500.
I HAD JUST DRIVEN TO MY BROTHER'S HOUSE IN WV. MY WIFE AND I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WENT INSIDE. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER MY BROTHER SAW SMOKE IN THE WINDOW AND SAW THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. WE ALL WENT OUTSIDE AND WHILE THEY CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT I TRIED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A HOSE. I COULD ONLY KNOCK IT DOWN SOME TO KEEP IT FROM SPREADING BUT WHEN THE FIRE DEPT GOT THEY PUT IT OUT. *JB

SIX MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED OUR NEW FORD 500 FROM A LOCAL DEALER WE HAD MICE IN THE CAR. THEY ATE A HOLE IN THE REAR SEAT AND GOT INTO OUR WINTER SURVIVAL GEAR INCLUDING A DOWN SLEEPING BAG. THE DEALER WAS VERY COOPERATIVE AND TRACKED HOW THE MICE GOT IN. IT WAS THROUGH THE AIR RELEASE VENTS IN THE TRUNK. THE MICE SIMPLY CAME IN THROUGH THE VENTS THAT WERE DESIGNED TO RELEASE AIR WHEN THE DOORS WERE CLOSED. IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. ALL FORD WOULD HAVE HAD TO DO WAS TO INCLUDE METAL SCREEN OVER THE VENTS. WHEN OUR LOCAL DEALER ASKED FORD TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE SEAT THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE FACTORY DIDN'T COVER MICE. WE LIVE IN A COLD CLIMATE. SOMEONE LIVING IN THE SOUTH OR SOUTHWEST COULD HAVE A LOT NASTIER VISITOR IN THEIR CAR THAN A MOUSE. EVEN MICE CAN CHEW ON WIRES AND TRASH A CAR IN A SHORT TIME. AK
