WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AROUND A CAR AND LOSS ALL POWER AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IMMEDIATELY STARTED FLASHING AND THE ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING AND LOSS ALL POWER AND NOW THE FORD DEALER SAYS THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION 45+ MPH OR SO DRIVEN ON A DECLINE LONG WINDING ROAD. VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR FROM MUCH HIGHER GEAR CAUSING RAPID DECELERATION AND ALMOST REAR END COLLISION, PULLED IN REST AREA VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO GEAR SELECT WHEN STOPPED AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL. TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND PUT INTO PARK LET SIT AND RESTARTED TRANS WORKED NOTICEABLE THUNK WHEN PUTTING INTO REVERSE AFTER LONG DRIVING NOW, VEHICLE IS ALL WHEEL DRIVE.
WHILE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND BEGAN SHUTTERING/VIBRATING BADLY. THIS LOSS OF POWER NEARLY CAUSED A SEVERE ACCIDENT AS THE SUDDEN SLOW DOWN CAUSED CARS BEHIND US TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IMMEDIATELY. WE DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP PER INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE SERVICE REP. THE VEHICLE HAS THE 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE. THE SERVICE TECH FIRST SAID AN IGNITION COIL WENT BAD AND REPLACED IT, ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY DID A CYLINDER COMPRESSION TEST AND WERE LOOSING COMPRESSION IN ONE CYLINDER. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE DISASSEMBLED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECH FOUND THE CYLINDER RINGS HAD FAILED IN ONE CYLINDER AND NOW HAS TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE AT A COST OF $7,800. THE ENGINE ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT! THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE, AND IT HAS BEEN ROUTINELY SERVICED. FORD IS UNWILLING TO HELP IN ANY WAY WITH THE REPAIRS AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION REQUIRING BRAKING AND DOWNSHIFT OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO AVOID COLLISION. HAS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY AND IN STOPPED TRAFFIC. LATEST EPISODE THIS PAST WEEK.
STEERING GEAR FAILURE IN EPAS STEERING SYSTEM. CONSTANT JERKING OF THE STEERING AT ALL SPEEDS, VERY LOUD NOISE AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL.
I TURNED MY CAR ON TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HAD NO POWER STEERING AND ON MY DASH IT SAID POWER STEERING FAULT. THIS IS A FORD LIMITED 2010 WITH ECOBOOST ENGINE AND PARKING ASSIST. THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED ON EVERY OTHER FORD BUT MY YEAR. IT IS UNDRIVABLE BECAUSE THE POWERSTEERING COULD GONOUT AT ANYTIME. THE PART FROM FORD IS 2643 PLUS LABOR. I ONLY HAD 119,000 MILES ON MY FORD.
PURCHASED A PRE-CERTIFIED 2010 FORD FLEX AT VERMONT DEALERSHIP 3.07.2014 WITH A PREMIUM EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN. TRAVEL BETWEEN VERMONT AND NEW YORK. APPROXIMATELY APRIL /MAY 2017 NOTICED POWERFUL SMELL OF GASOLINE AFTER FILLING VEHICLE, COULDN'T CLOSE GARAGE DUE TO SMELL AND PARKED AWAY FROM OTHERS. GARAGE REPLACED ROTTED FILL NECK YOKE 5.12.2017. PROBLEM SEEMED TO ABATE BUT PERSISTED , NOW IN GARAGE AND EXTENSIVE WORK TO DROP GAS TANK WHERE THE METAL FLANGE CONNECTING FUEL LINE AND PUMP TO THE TANK IS TOTALLY CORRODED. THERE IS A RECALL ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES FOR SALT CORROSION FROM ROAD SALT TO THE FUEL TANK CAUSING DANGEROUS LEAKS. I COULD HAVE BLOWN UP AND MY HOME FROM THIS !! THAT RECALL TARGETS NORTHERN STATES SUCH AS THE ONE I PURCHASED MY CAR INCLUDING VERMONT AND NEW YORK RECALL NUMBER 15S3. NO FIRE AS A) I WAS VERY LUCKY B) IT'S IN THE GARAGE WITH A HUGE BILL. *JS
2010 FORD FLEX 2ND ROW OF SEATS 40/60. THE LARGER SEAT HAS LOCKED INTO POSITION CAUSED BY A CABLE PART THAT CAN SLIP OUT OF PLACE. SEAT WILL NOT FLIP UP OR DOWN. DEALERS ARE CHARGING $700 TO FIX THIS CABLE AND PLASTIC PART. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2X SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR. VEHICLE WAS TURNING OFF OF A STATE HIGHWAY INTO A SCHOOL ENTRANCE. WITHOUT WARNING (NO WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH) ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. DUE TO ENGINE SHUT DOWN ALL AUXILIARY SYSTEMS LOST POWER. VEHICLE WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO A SCHOOL ENTRANCE WHEN ENGINE TURNED OFF. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES MADE NEGOTIATING THE TURN UNSAFE. THE OPERATOR WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON THE PAVED ENTRANCE AND ENDED UP OFF THE SHOULD AND INTO THE GRASS. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS OR OBSTACLES. FAILURE COULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE AT HIGHWAY SPEED DUE TO POTENTIAL FOR REAR ENDING DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. THIS ENGINE FAILURE IS DUE TO FORD 3.5 DURATEC INTERNAL WATER PUMP DESIGN. WHEN THE WATER PUMP SEALS FAIL, ALL COOLANT IS CONTAINED IN THE MOTOR AND COLLECTED IN THE OIL PAN. BY COLLECTING THE COOLANT IN THE OIL PAN IT CAUSED A P0016 CODE AND THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. THEIR WAS NO WARNING OF THIS. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN 3.5HRS THE PREVIOUS DAY WITH NO ISSUES OR WARNING LIGHTS. FORD IS UNWILLING TO RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM. I FILED CLAIMS WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE #11792792 AND CAS-11876774 ON THIS ISSUE. REPAIR BILL WAS $4100 TO REPLACE THE MOTOR WITH A SIMILAR USED MOTOR. THE VEHICLE REPAIR WAS JUST COMPLETED YESTERDAY AND I STILL FEEL UNSAFE AND UNCOMFORTABLE KNOWING THE SAME POTENTIAL FOR ENGINE FAILURE EXISTS. IT IS BOTH A SAFETY CONCERN AND AN FINANCIAL CONCERN. THEIR ARE MANY DOCUMENTED CASES OF THIS HAPPENING ON FORDFLEX.NET (15 CASES) ALSO ON FORDTAURUS.NET. PLEASE GOOGLE DURATEC 3.5 WATER PUMP FAILURE. TRANSMISSION AND POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU). THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTING AWKWARDLY SINCE 10,000 MILES. HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE. A MECHANIC AT LARRY H. MILLER FORD, IN LAKEWOOD CO, RECENTLY TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION MIGHT OR SHOULD BE RECALLED IN THE FUTURE. AT 87,506 MILES THE PTU WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,692.26. THE PTU CAME ORIGINALLY WITHOUT A DRAIN PLUG AND WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SERVICE. REPLACEMENT PTU DOES HAVE A DRAIN PUG. I BELIEVE BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND PTU ARE DEFECTIVE DESIGNS AND NEED TO BE RECALLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FLEX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS FAULTY. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR AND THE STEERING WHEEL COULD NOT BE MOVED. ANOTHER MOTORIST HELPED THE CONTACT PUSH THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE MAKING A SHARP TURN, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL MOAN/GROAN SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HENDERSON FORD (2530 US-41, HENDERSON, KY 42420, (270) 827-3566) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND A 'DETROIT AXLE RACK AND PINION' WAS INSTALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO THREE UNKNOWN DEALERS AND THE POWER STEERING WAS REPLACED FOUR TIMES AND CLOCKSPRINGS WERE INSTALLED; HOWEVER, NONE OF THE PREVIOUS REMEDIES REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SENT THE TECHNICIAN WHO INSTALLED THE 'DETROIT AXLE SYSTEM'. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS AGO I WENT TO GO START MY 2010 FORD FLEX AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I COULD NOT STEER MY CAR AT ALL, AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES I RE-STARTED MY VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH MY POWER STEERING. OCCASIONALLY WHEN I START MY VEHICLE I HAVE NO POWER STEERING, IF I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY LEFT OR RIGHT IT WILL COME BACK ON. I HAVE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD FOR THIS, BUT I HAVE HAD ON OCCASION THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME ON BUT ONLY FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THEN IT GOES AWAY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FORD AND THEY CLAIMED I HAD A FAULT CODE FOR THE POWER STEERING, BUT COULD NOT SEND ME ANY INFO ON IT. LUCKILY THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, IT'S USUALLY UPON STARTING. IT SEEMS BASED ON THE RECALL OF 2011-2014 THAT FORD WOULD HAVE INCLUDED THE 2010 VEHICLES. IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE I'M DRIVING IT COULD HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.
SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AFTER SIDE IMPACT. ONLY STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DEPLOYED.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST SYSTEMS INTERMITTENTLY FAILS RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF STEERING. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY AT STARTUP AND MOST OF THE TIME REQUIRES TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE TO GET THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST SYSTEMS TO FUNCTION. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS THEY SEE IT HAPPEN, WHICH WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO DO SINCE IT IS A KNOWN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM FOR 2011 - 2013 FORD FLEX'S. FOR SOME REASON THE 2010 FLEX IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT SIX WEEKS NOW BUT AGAIN THE PROBLEM IS VERY INTERMITTENT. AT THIS POINT I AM AFRAID FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY FAMILY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED 62 MILES BEFORE EMPTY PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE ISSUE OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME THE SERVICE POWER STEERING/SERVICE ADVANCETRAK WARNING CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE ADDITIONAL 5 MILES OR SO TO GET HOME WITHOUT HAVING ANY MAJOR STEERING ISSUES. THE STEERING FELT DIFFERENT, BUT WAS STILL CONTROLLABLE. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. I WAS SEEING IF THE WARNING DISAPPEARED, BUT NOW IT SAID SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW. AT THIS POINT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST IMMOVABLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE DOWN TO THE STREET, WHERE I HAD IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP. I RECEIVED A CALL STATING THAT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING GEAR WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN THE FALL 2015 WITH ABOUT 78000 MILES ON IT. CURRENTLY WE HAVE ABOUT 94000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE NEWER MODEL YEARS WITH THE SAME ENGINE HAVE HAD A SIMILAR DEFECT PROMPTING A RECALL. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A SIMILAR PROBLEM COULD HAVE OCCURRED WITH THE EXACT SAME SCENARIO. THE DEALERSHIP HAS RESPONDED WITH AN ESTIMATE FOR $2200+. WITH THE VEHICLE HAVING LESS THAN 100000 MILES AND NOW REQUIRING SUCH A MAJOR REPAIR, I PERSONALLY FEEL AS THOUGH FORD HAS SOME RESPONSIBILTY. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITH MY VEHICLE, BUT IF I HAD TO HAVE DRIVEN ANY FURTHER AWAY WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED? PLEASE HELP NOT JUST ME BUT OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MY2010 VEHICLES.
TOTAL MOTOR FAILURE WHEN DRIVING! TRANSMISSION FREQUENTLY SLIPS. MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHEN PRESSURE EXHAUST FOR ECOBOOST IS REDIRECTED TO CYLINDER 3 AND 5 THE HEAD GASKET FAILS ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE HEAD OF MOTOR WHICH THEM STEAM FRIES THE CYLINDERS. THIS IS VERY COMMON IN THE 2010 FLEX WITH ECBOOST AND NEED TO BE RECALLED ASAP! MOTORS UP TO 100,000. MINE HAD 74000 WHEN FAILURE OCCURRED. *TR
WHEN STARTING THE CAR THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK WITH A "POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAULT" AND"ADV TRAC FAULT" WARNING ON THE DASH.FOR A FEW DAYS WE COULD TRY RESTARTING THE CAR AND HAVE POWER STEERING UNTIL IT HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE. HAD THE WHOLE POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED AT FORD DEALERSHIP AT A COST OF $1975
ECO BOOST ENGINE STALL DUE TO CONDENSATION OF AIR FROM THE COLD AIR COMPRESSOR IN THE TURBO CHARGER FOR THE ENGINE. HAVE HAD CAR SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES AND DEALER OR MECHANIC CAN NOT RESOLVE PROBLEM. HAPPEN IN FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEED BUT HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN THE STREET AT 20 - 30 MPH
EXHAUST IN PASSENGER CABIN, ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU LIGHT HEADED AND START COUGHING, MAINLY HAPPENS WITH AIR CONDITIONING TURNED ON, UNDER HARD ACCELERATIONS. DEALER CAN NOT REPRODUCE OR FIND ANY PROBLEMS.
2010 FORD FLEX SEL WITH ECOBOOST, 87K MILES. ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY ON MY WAY HOME. I WAS ON MY STREET, SO WHEN I GOT HOME, I TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR, POWER STEERING WAS FINE. A WEEK LATER THE POWER STEERING FAILED RIGHT WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, AND NO AMOUNT OF RESTARTING HAS BROUGHT IT BACK TO LIFE. APPARENTLY I'M LOOKING AT AROUND $1000 FOR A NEW SAS AND STEERING GEAR. IT SEEMS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2011-2013 FLEXES, BUT NOT THE 2010S, WHICH TO MY KNOWLEDGE HAVE THE SAME ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM. I SEE OTHERS ON FORUMS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS WELL, AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE A RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.
MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 45MPH. ENGINE HAS 108,000 MILES. NOW ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC ON US HWY 41 IN LAND O LAKE FL, REPAIR ESTIMATED AT $6500.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FLEX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEFROSTER FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE BLOWER FAILED AND THE HEATER OR AIR CONDITIONING UNITS WOULD NOT TURN ON, TURN ON INDEPENDENTLY, OR WOULD FAIL TO TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

THE FAILURE CREATED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SMOKE TO COME THROUGH THE EXHAUST PIPES. HUBLER FORD IN SHELBYVILLE, INDIANA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FLEX. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
WHILE WAITING AT A LIGHT IN MY 2010 FORD FLEX THE ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGH, AFTER THE SIGNAL TURNED GREEN THE POWER SEEMED LOW AND SLUGGISH AS I ACCELERATED. WHEN I WAS AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE ENGINE POWER RETURNED AND SEEMED MORE NORMAL, SUDDENLY WITHOUT NOTICE THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AND ALL DASH LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A DRIVE WAY BUT WAS VERY HARD AS THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP SAFELY. ONCE STOPPED THERE WAS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF COOLANT. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF COOLANT ON RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO MY HOME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE. ON FURTHER INSPECTION IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THE WATER PUMP FAILED WHICH IS INTERNAL TO THE TIMING CHAIN COVER AND THEREFORE DUMPED A LARGE AMOUNT OF COOLANT INTO THE CRANKCASE WHICH THEN CONTAMINATED THE ENGINE OIL AND OVER FILLED THE OIL PAN. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THIS OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET AND NOT ON THE FREEWAY AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. ON FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THIS HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES. WHEN WE TURN THE CAR ON THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT FLASHES AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT (THE STEERING WHEEL SHIFT TO THE RIGHT AND IT BECOMES MANUAL STEERING AND VERY HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL STRAIGHT).IT GOES DIRECTLY INTO MANUAL MODE. WE TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LIGHT DISAPPEARS AND THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS WORKING AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPEN THIS WAY SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 WEEKS. WE HAVE A FORD FLEX 2010 ECO BOOST THAT HAS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. WE TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE STAYING WE NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING CONTROL BOX. IT'S FAULTY AND A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX. BUT WE DO NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL FOR THE FORD FLEX SINCE THAT IS FOR THE 2011 AND CURRENT. IT'S THE SAME ISSUE THE OTHER FORD FLEX'S ARE HAVING WITH THE POWER STEERING. I'VE READ ON NUMEROUS FORUM THAT THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING ALSO WITH THE 2010 ECO BOOST FORD FLEX. VERY SCARY IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING WITH KIDS IN THE CAR AND THE STEERING GOES OUT. CAME CLOSE TO HAVING AN ACCIDENT AS MANUAL STEERING WAS AT ALL LEVELS OF SPEED. TODAY IT IS BACK TO NORMAL, AND IT IS EASY TOO STEER. CONCERNED THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

AS INDICATED BY A NUMBER OF FLEX OWNERS, MY FLEX SIMPLY DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY GOING 70 MPH. NO WARNING - LIGHTS ON DASH WENT ON, LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING POWER STEERING. AFTER MUSCLING THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER, PUTTING IN PARK AND SITTING FOR A FEW MINUTES, IT STARTED BACK UP. TOOK TO DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. HOW MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE NEED TO BE AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM BEFORE FORD AND NHTSA TAKE ACTION.

THE CONTACT ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT WAS A SIGN THAT THE AIR BAG WAS NOT FUNCTIONING; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CONTACT ADVISED THE POLICE AND THE DEALER THAT SHE THOUGHT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS SUPPOSE TO REMAIN ON TO INDICATE THAT IT WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THEM REGARDING THE AIR BAG FAILURE AFTER SHE SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE CONSTANT PAIN. THE OTHER DRIVER IN THE VEHICLE THAT CAUSED THE CRASH WAS ALSO INJURED. THE CONTACT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. GOT IN MY CAR AND WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE AIR BAG LIGHT ALONG WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK IT TO A DEALER TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND WAS TOLD IT IS THE RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE AND TO REPLACE IT WILL COST 900.00. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A FAULTY PART AND SHOULD BE COVERED AS IT DIRECTLY CONTROLS THE SIR BAGS AND THE SEAT BELTS. SO BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE 900.00 LAYING AROUND I G=HAVE TO HOPE I AM NOT IN A COLLISION UNTIL I CAN COME UP WITH THE RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY TO REPLACE A PLUG IN MODULE THAT COSTS LESS THAN 100.00 TO MANUFACTURE. *TR
AFTER WORK ON THE VEHICLE AT TWO FORD AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FACILITIES FOR ISSUES NOT RELATED TO THE AIR BAGS, THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON SINCE. I HAD THE CODE READ SINCE THEN AND IT COMES BACK AS AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE RH FRONT AIR BAG. I REALIZE THAT THE SUBJECT VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT AS A FORMER VEHICLE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER A FORD I PRESUME THAT AN INOPERATIVE RH FRONT AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DANGEROUS TO THE DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE GOING FORWARD AND WOULD HOPE THAT NHTSA WOULD PROTECT ME FROM THE FACT THAT FORD'S OWN RECALL SITE IS TELLING ME THERE IS NO ISSUE. INITIAL REPORT FROM REPAIR SHOP IS THAT THE CAR'S POWER STEER LEAKED COMPLETED OUT AND DAMAGED THE RACK AND PINION STEERING SYSTEM. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR OTHER INDICATIONS THAT THIS WAS OCCURRING UNTIL THIS INCIDENT. *TR

THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MAY 29TH RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER FORD SUV'S.
WAS PULLING INTO GAS STATION TODAY AND BREAKING AT PUMP WHEN CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I APPLIED BREAK HARD, TIRES SPUN UNTIL I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. I THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF VEHICLE.
