FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE REAR DOORS ON MY 2000 FORD FOCUS SE DO NOT STAY LATCHED. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH GREATER FREQUENCY. ADDITIONALLY, THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE, UNLESS THE DOOR NEVER LATCHES AT ALL. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN I REANSPORT IN THIS VEHICLE AND I NO LONGER CONSIDER IT SAFE. THIS PROBLEM HAS APPEARED ON SEVERAL OTHER 2000 FOCUS CARS AND I CONSIDER IT TO BE A DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED.*AK
IGNITION CYLINDER FAILED. HAD TO HAVE REPLACED. HAVE TWO SUCH VEHICLES AND EXPERIENCED FAILURE ON BOTH. QUITE COSTLY.
THE REAR DRIVERSIDE DOOR OF MY CAR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. IT POPPED OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY THE BACK SEAT WAS EMPTY. MY SON AND HIS FRIENDS USUALLY TRAVEL BACK THERE ALONG WITH THE FAMILY PET. IT WAS SUNDAY SO SERVICE CENTERS WERE NOT OPEN. WE HAD TO TAKE APART THE ENTIRE DOOR TO GET THE MECHANISM INSIDE THE DOOR TO WORK ENOUGH SO I CAN LOCK THE DOOR. THE OTHER SIDE DOESN'T APPEAR TO LOOK ANY BETTER.*AK
FORD FOCUS IGNITION WILL NOT ACCEPT KEY. KNOWN MANUFACTURER ISSUE. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT COVER EXPENSE OF REPAIR.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE POWER ACCESSORIES WERE DEFECTIVE. THE POWER DOOR LOCKS WERE INEFFECTIVE, THE KEY WON'T WORK IN THE DOOR. THE DOORS DID NOT OPEN MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE, THE HATCH BUTTON FROM THE INSIDE WILL NOT WORK EITHER. ONCE THE ACTUATOR FROZE, IT BLEW A FUSE, PREVENTING THE DOORS FROM OPENING. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONSUMER INSERTED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE IGNITION KEY FAILED TO TURN. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
BOTH REAR DOOR LATCHES FAILED. AS A RESULT, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FLEW OPEN. *AK CHILDREN WERE IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN THE DOORS FLEW OPEN. THE DOOR WOULD NOT RE-LATCH. *SC *JB
MY FOCUS 2000 IS IN THE SHOP DUE TO A BROKEN IGNITION CYLINDER. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A HUGE COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.I COULD HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IN A DARK PARKING LOT. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED.
I OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS. SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO START THE CAR. IN THE PAST I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO JIGGLE THE KEY AND STERRING WHEEL TO GET IT STARTED. ON 7/14/2004, THE SAME THING OCCURRED, BUT I NEVER HAD ANY SUCCESS WITH TURNING IT AT ALL. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALSO LOCKED UP. I INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS WAS VERY COMMON ON FORD FOCUS, ESPECIALLY 2000. I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND HAD REPAIRS DONE AT ED KELNLEY FORD IN LAYTON, UTAH COSTNG $461.01.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT IT FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DECREASE IN SPEED. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. CONSUMER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE ,AND NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE BROKE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION, BUT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE SNAPPED IN ONE PLACE AND WAS VERY WEAK IN ANOTHER PLACE. *TC
I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS CLOSING MY REAR DOOR AND KEEPING CLOSED. IT HAD OPENED MORE THEN TWICE WHEN I FINALLY CALLED FORD. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT COVER LOCKS AND THAT IT WOULD CAST UPWARDS OF $275. NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT IS UNHEARD OF. I WD40 THE LATCH TO GET IT SHUT AND HAVE NOT USED THE DOOR SINCE, AND WHEN I USE THE OTHER DOORS THEY ALL MAKE A VERY LOUD CREAKING SOUND, IT'S AWFUL. WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS AND RECALLS TO MY 4 YEAR OLD 2000 FOCUS I AM DISSCUSTED THAT I EVEN BOUGHT THE CAR. NOW THERE IS A RECALL ON THE PART..... GO FIGURE... *AK
THE IGNITION MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, THE KEY GOT STUCK WHICH ENABLED THE CONSUMER TO START THE VEHICLE. *AK
AT FIRST COULD NOT GET KEY INTO IGNITION, THEN AFTER WIGGLING IT IN, IGNITION WILL NOT TURN WITH KEY IN IT. THIS IS ON A 2000 FORD FOCUS. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED. I UNDERSTAND NOW THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FOCUS NOW BY HEARING FROM THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER AND OTHERS WITH FOCUS'. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL ISSUE AS SO MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN. *JB
AT 6 MONTHS, THE IGNITION SWITCH (AND ALL DOOR LOCKS, TAILGATE LOCK) WAS REPLACED DUE TO THE INABILITY TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. 10/29/03 - IGNTION SWITCH REPLACED DUE TO BROKEN TUMBLER ASSY - COST ALMOST $300 07/16/04 - UNABLE TO TURN KEY IN IGNITION - AGAIN - SAME AS PROBLEM ON 10/29/03. *JB
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HESITATED. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS PERTAINED TO THE FAILURE OF THE EGR VALVE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR OPENED ON ITS OWN. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE , AND PULLED OVER. THE CONSUMER CLOSED THE DOOR AND THE DOOR OPENED ON ITS ON AGAIN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LOCKING MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH REAR DOORS WERE INOPERATIVE. *JB
IGNITION CYLINDER JAMMED AND CAR CANNOT BE STARTED. CYLINDER MUST BE REPLACED AND TUMBLERS REMOVED TO PREVENT REPEAT OF SITUATION IN THE FUTURE. *LA
VEHICLE'S BACK DOORS OPEN WHILE THE CONSUMER IS DRIVING. THEY ARE AUTOMATIC LOCKS, AND THEY STILL FLY OPEN. SOMEONE HAS TO SIT IN THE REAR TO KEEP THE DOORS FROM OPENING.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. BUT ON ONE OCCASION WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
FRONT BRAKES ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE, ONCE THE VEHICLE HITS 10, 000 MILES THE BRAKES BECOME DEFECTIVE, THE ROTORS AND THE PADS WORE OUT TO THE METAL. *AK
THE DOOR LATCH ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SEIZED UP AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. DUE TO THIS THE LATCH, THE DOOR HANDLE AND REINFORCEMENT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE HANDLE STILL WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR DUE TO FORD PROVIDING THEM THE WRONG PART NUMBER TO BE ORDERED FOR THE LATCH. ONCE THE CAR DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO FIND THE CORRECT PART NUMBER TO ORDER THE LATCH THE DOOR WAS FIXED, BUT THE HANDLE STILL COMES LOSE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO HIT THE HANDLE.*AK
RECALL 00V302000, WHEN COMING TO A STOP ENGINE REVVED AT A HIGH RATE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM BECAUSE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. *AK
DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCHES EVEN SERVICE WRIGHTER SAY THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED MY 2000 FORD FOCUS HAS HAD 4 IGNITION SWITCHES INSTALLED, THE LATEST ON I INSTALLED 5-13-04 AND TODAY IT WAS TOWED 65 MILES FOR A NEW ONG AGAINST A FAULTY DESIGN AND SHOULD BE FIXED. FORD WILL CREDIT ME FOR THE NEW SWITCH I PUT IN CAUSE THEY SAY THE KEY RUINED IT BUT I SAY THE SWITCH RUINED THE KEY. SO THE CHANGE EVERYTHING NOW THAT THE NEXT ONE IS IN FORD WHEN IT BRAKES AND I DON'T THINK ITS FAIR THE CONSUMER GET STUCK.THE CAR HAD THE ORIGINAL ONE, THEN ABOUT A YEAR OR SO AGO I CHANGED IT. THEN I CHANGED IT 2 MONTHS AGO AND NOW TODAY 07-12-04 AGAIN ALL THE SERVICE WRIGHTERS SAY THE SHOULD BE RECALLED TOO. *LA
IGNITION LOCK FAILED. UNABLE TO INSERT KIT ALL THE WAY AND HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALER. *LA
CONSUMER PLACED KEY INSIDE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND KEY WOULD NOT INSERT PROPERLY INSIDE THE SWITCH, AND VEHICLE FAILED TO START. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS WARRANTY EXPIRED. *AK
CONSUMER WENT OUT TO START THE VEHICLE AND KEY WOULD NOT TURN. THE IGNITION WAS LOCKED IN PLACE, IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH.*AK
AT 88,000 MILES MY FOCUS STARTED LOSING POWER AND CUTTING OFF COMPLETELY. IT WOULD START BACK UP WHEN CRANKED. THE DEALERSHIP (WAY BROTHERS) WOULD ALWAYS SAY ITS NOT DOING IT NOW OR WE CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. AFTER TAKING IT BACK SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULTS IT STARTED KNOCKING AND CUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WOULD COST 3500-4000 TO FIX (THAT'S WITHOUT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE) I HAD ANOTHER ENGINE INSTALLED AND IT DROVE FINE FOR A YEAR AND STARTED DOING THE SAME THING (LOSING POWER AND CUTTING OFF) THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE SAME THING (CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG) NOW IT IS KNOCKING AND SMOKING FROM THE PIPE LEADING TO THE MANIFOLD. THIS IS MY SECOND ENGINE WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH 2000 FOCUS OR IS IT ALL FOCUS. *NM
THE KEY IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS ZX3 WILL NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX. I HAVE READ SO MANY ACCOUNTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. (THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY ALREADY.) *LA

WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. CONSUMER QUESTIONED O WHETHER PAST RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE PROPERLY. *AK THE ELECTRICAL GAUGES HAD GONE UP AND THE OIL LIGHT STAYED ON. THE VEHCILE WAS OUT OF CONTROL. RECALL# 00V411000. *SC
IT WAS HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS AND THE DOORS FAILED TO LATCH . THE CONSUMER HAD TO TIE THE DOORS UP WITH ROPE, BECAUSE ON ONE OCCASION THE DOOR FLEW OPEN. *JB THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD OPEN ON LEFT TURNS. *SC *JB
SEAT BELT RETRACTOR ON PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT RETRACT ONCE IT WAS PULLED OUT, AND WAS NOT TO BE USED. VEHICLE WAS TAKENN TO THE DEALER, WHO SPRAYED A LUBRICANT, AND THE RETRACTOR WAS NOW WORKSING. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT IT WILL FAIL AGAIN.*AK
IGNITION LOCK FAILURE. YET ANOTHER PERSON WITH A BAD IGNION, TUMBLERS FELL INSIDE LOCK COULD'NT GET THE KEY BACK INTO IGNION. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE 1/4 TANK. FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT NOTICE. A RECALL WAS ISSUED BY MANUFACTURER. HOWEVER, CONSUMER WAS TURNED AWAY BY THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT SHE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR TOWING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE SAFE FOR DRIVING. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER'S DOOR OPENED AND CLOSED ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JUNE 30 , 2004, DEALER REPAIRED AND REPLACED HINGES AND ELECTRICAL MOTOR AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE OF $700.00, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
I HAVE HAD MY FORD FOCUS FOR TWO YEARS. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD AGAIN. THE TIME I HAVE HAD MY FORD I'VE RECEIVED ABOUT 3 OR 4 RECALL NOTICES FOR MY CAR. JUST RECENTLY I HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM. THE IGNITION ON MY CAR COMPLETELY LOCKED, YOU COULDN'T EVEN TURN THE KEY. AFTER TALKING TO THE PERSON THAT TOWED MY CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ON SO MANY OF THE FOCUS CARS I DID A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT IT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. IT COST ME ABOUT $450 JUST TO HAVE THEM FIX THE IGNITION. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN AND I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. *JB
OVER TIME, MY IGNITION LOCK HAS BEEN FREEZING UP AND NOT ALLOWING MY TO START THE CAR. NOW IT WILL NOT WORK AT ALL AND AM FORCED TO REPLACE IGNITION CYLINDER MY SELF. THERE SEEM TO BE MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER OWNERS AS WELL. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS CAR COMPLETELY UNTIL THEY WORK OUT ALL BUGS. *JB

LIKE MANY FORD FOCUSES, MY IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FAILED. MY KEY RING IS NOT EXCESSIVELY HEAVY, NOR AM I ABUSIVE WITH MY VEHICLE--THE SPRING ASSEMBLY INSIDE THE ILC IS JUST A POORLY DESIGNED PIECE OF CRAP, AND RATHER THAN PAY THE QUOTED PRICE I SUCCESSFULLY REPLACED THE PROBLEM BY DRILLING OUT THE OLD LOCK AND REPLACING IT WITH A NEW ILC. FORD HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM AND THOUSANDS OF FOCUS OWNERS HAVE SUFFERED A SIMILAR BREAKDOWN. IT'S A CRAP PART AND SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A STURDIER PART AT NO EXPENSE TO THE CONSUMER, AND THOSE OF US WHO HAVE SUFFERED BREAKDOWNS TO DATE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR OUR REPAIR COSTS.*AK
2000 FORD FOCUS, SECOND INCIDENT INVOLVING THE FAULTY IGNITION TUMBLER, STRANDED ON VACATION. HAVE REPLACED THE IGNITION/LINKAGE ONCE ALREADY, NOW CAR DISABLED BY SAME SITUATION. SITTING IN CAR TRYING TO GET IGNITION TO TURN OVER WHILE 80 MILE AN HOUR WINDS ROCKING THE CAR SIDE TO SIDE. HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO SIT THERE AND FRET. CAR WORKS FINE IF YOU CAN START IT. *NM
INITIALLY, THE KEY WOULD NOT GO INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH ALL THE WAY. WHEN THE KEY FINALLY DID GO IN, THE SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN. IN THE PROCESS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED, AND VEHICLE TOWED TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP, OLYMPIC FORD IN MARYSVILLE, WA. TOW TRUCK DRIVER STATED THAT THEY HAD 4 FORD FOCUS' WITH THE IDENTICAL IGNITION ISSUES TO TOW THAT WEEK ALONE. REPORTED THAT THIS WAS A RAMPANT FAILURE IN RECENT WEEKS. AS RESULT, HUSBAND WAS LEFT STRANDED OVER 35 MILES FROM HOME.*AK
UPON TRYING TO SHUT THE REAR LEFT DOOR IT WILL NOT SHUT, THE LATCH DOES NOT CATCH. CONSUMER HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY SLAM THE DOOR TO GET IT SHUT. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH 2000 FORD FOCUS REAR DOOR LATCHES. *MR (THE REAR DOOR OPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION) THE FUSE WAS BROKEN MAKING THE LATCH FREEZE. THE VEHICLE HAD A FAULTY PART IN THE LEFT SIDE DRIVER'S DOOR ACTUATOR. THIS MADE THE FRONT DOOR AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR USELESS. THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, NOT EVEN WITH THE UNLOCK BUTTON FROM THE INSIDE, THE KEY OR EVEN THE REMOTE. *SC *JB
CONSUMER ATTEMPTING TO GET A REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS THAT WAS DONE ON 2000 FORD FOCUS. *MR THE DRUM WAS BADLY RUSTED AND THE BEARING(S) WERE IN BAD SHAPE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY DUE TO THE FIRST YEAR MODEL AND OR POOR MECHANIC WORKMANSHIP. *SC THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE RECALL #00V303000 *JB
PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE MOTOR GOING FAST THEN SLOWING DOWN. *MR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, THERE WAS THUMP IN THE REAR UNDER THE SEAT AS IF IT WERE STOPPING AND OR LOSING POWER, THE EMISSION LIGHT HAD COME ON THE DASH BOARD AND WOULD GO OFF AND ON AGAIN, THE FLOOR WOULD VIBRATE AND RATTLE, THE ENGINE WOULD CUT OFF WHEN AT STOP LIGHTS, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION/STUCK IN CYLINDER. THE STALLING WOULD OCCUR ESPECIALLY WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS BELOW 1/2. *SC *JB
FRONT COIL SPRINGS FAILED ON 2000 FORD FOCUS. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE FRONT SPRINGS FAILED. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF A FLAT FIELD. THE CONSUMER HAD TWO FRIENDS THAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. *SC *JB
FRONT END CREAKING, CRUNCHING, GRINDING AND/OR RATTLING NOISE FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND/OR WHILE TURNING. *AL
WHEN THE CONSUMER PLACED THE KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH, THE SWITCH DID NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE IS NOW ON ITS 2ND IGNITION SWITCH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION LOCKED; THE KEY COULD BE PLACED IN THE IGNITION BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN. A LOCKSMITH REPAIRED IT. ON THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE, HOWEVER THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OR REIMBURSEMENT.
