IGNITION CYLINDAR FROZE, RENDERING THE KEY UNABLE TO BE TURNED. TOWED TO HAVE FIXED AND CYLINDAR WAS REPLACED WITH NEW FORD PART. THIS IS THE 2ND CYLINDAR SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR...THE 1ST TIME THE KEY WAS STUCK AND WOULDN'T COME OUT OF THE CYLINDAR. TWO DAYS AFTER GETTING THE CAR FIXED, IT HAPPENED A AGAIN WHERE THE CYLINDAR FROZE. THE TUMBLERS ARE OF AN INFERIOR AND DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND IT IS UNLIKELY THERE IS A PERMANENT REMEDY WITHOUT A DESIGN IMPROVEMENT.*AK
WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE COMING FROM INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS MELTED. *AK
FORD FOCUS IGNITION MINE HAS LOCKED UP TWICE THE FIRST TIME IT STARTED TO WORK AGAIN THE SECOND TIME I PUT THE KEY IN AND IT WOULDNT TURN .I AM NOW WATCHING A LOCKSMITH FIX IT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY BIG PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS SHOULD'NT THERE BE A RECALL TO FIX IT?? *AK
I OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON. THE HYDRALIC LIFTERS TO THE REAR DOOR (BACK DOOR) HAVE FAILED SO THAT IT REQUIRES TWO PEOPLE TO PLACE ITEMS IN THE WAGON, ONE TO HOLD THE DOOR UP AND THE OTHER TO LOAD. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ITEM AS THE DOOR IS INOPERABLE AS IT IS INTENDED. FORD DOES NOT.*AK
MY KEY WILL NOT TURN THE IGNITION IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THROUGH THE DEALER REPS, BUT NO RECALL? THERE IS OVER 200 REPORTS ALONE ON THIS SITE ABOUT THE INCIDENT.*AK
THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, PROHIBIITING THE REMOVAL OF THE KEY AND PROPER SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS NO IMPOSSIBLE TO LOOK THE CAR WITHOUT THE KEYLESS REMOTE, AND THERE IS NO AN EXTREMELY HIGH CHANCE OF THE CAR BEING STOLEN.
IT WAS HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO START THE VEHICLE DUE TO IGNITION PROBLEM. IN SOME CASES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT ALL. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE IGNITION CYLINDER OF MY 2000 FORD FOCUS WAS FAULTY. THIS RECENT REPAIR WAS THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO REPAIR THIS FAULTY COMPONENT. THE KEY WOULDN'T EVEN GO INTO THE IGNITION BEFORE THE REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP CUT ME TWO NEW KEYS AND REBUILT THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS FAULTY COMPONENT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED BY FORD? *LA
IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TAKE MY KEY THEN AFTER AN HOUR OF TRYING TO GET THE KEY TO FIT THE KEY DID FINALLY GO IN THEN IT WOULD NOT TURN TO START THE CAR AND STILL HAD NOT SO I HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TRANSFERED TO THE DEALER THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR. THE DEALER TELLS ME THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF THIS HAPPENING AND THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. AFTER ALL THE FORD FOCUS HAS HAD SO MANY THIS ONE SHOULD ADDED A LONG WITH ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. CONSUMER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER, OPENED THE HOOD, AND SAW THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES. *AK
I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD PROGRAM 03N01 POSSIBLE ENGINE STALLING IN MY 2000 FOCUS. IT SAYS THE ENGINE MAY STALL WHILE GOING AROUND CORNERS BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP FILTER. MY CAR DID STALL OUT ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TAKING A RIGHT ON A HIGHWAY OFF RAMP. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE DOWN TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE MY CAR HAD A "BRANDED" OR REPAIRED TITLE, I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. I THEN CONNECTED FORD DIRECTLY THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE. I RECEIVE A CALL A FEW DAYS LATER AND THEY STILL STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR ME. I MADE A POINT TO TELL THEM THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OCCURRED IN THE FRONT, FAR AWAY FROM THE FUEL PUMP FILTER IN THE GAS TANK IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THEY SAID ONLY RECALLS WITH A S IN THEM, FOR SAFETY, CAN BE DONE ON REPAIRED VEHICLES. I AND MOST PEOPLE WOULD THINK THAT A CAR STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE OF A DEFECT PART IS CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. I AM DISPUTING THE FACT THAT THIS RECALL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AN N RECALL INSTEAD OF AN S. I HAD A RECALL REPAIR PREFORMED ON THE CAR A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. I THINK IT MY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH REROUTING THE BATTERY CABLE. HOW CAN THE POSSIBILITY OF A FIRE BE A GREATER RISK THAN A CAR THAT ACTUALLY STALLS ON THE HIGHWAY? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHO DESIGNATES THE TYPE OF RECALL THAT A PARTICULAR PROBLEM IS CATEGORIZED AS AND WHY THEY MADE THIS ONE A N AND NOT AN S RECALL. JUST BECAUSE A CAR HAS A REPAIRED TITLE AND HAD BEEN INSPECTED AS SAFE FOR THE ROAD BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK DOES NOT MEAN THAT ITS DRIVER SHOULD BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST AND NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE REPAIRS MADE THAT CAN PREVENT POSSIBLE ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES. ALSO, I PERSONALLY MADE THE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE AND BROUGHT IT THROUGH INSPECTION. I HAVE PICTURES SHOWING EVERY REPAIR MADE AND THEY DO NOT INVOLVE ANY REPAIRS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE.*AK
2000 FORD FOCUS: 1/04 AND 3/04 THE IGNITION LOCKED AND WOULD NOT TURN; IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED IN 1/04 AND SECOND OCCURENCE BLAMED ON "WORN" KEY. HAD TO PAY FOR NEW KEY. ON 1/04 SERVICE MANAGER HIT THE KEY WHILE IN THE IGNITION AND RELEASED THE CYLINDER. WILL SEE IF KEY IS THE PROBLEM ON SECOND INCIDENT.
FIRST IGNITION KEY COULD NOT BE INSERTED INTO IGNITION, AFTER 30 MINUTES OF FINAGLING, IT FORCEFULLY LET ME PUT IT IN (WE WERE ON VACATION AND NOT NEAR HOME) NOW THE KEY CAN NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. I DON'T WANT TO FORCE IT BECAUSE THEN I PROBABLY CAN'T GET IT BACK IN, AT LEAST THIS WAY I CAN DRIVE. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE TUMBLERS ARE LOCKED ON AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT $89.00 AN HOUR FOR LABOR, $100+ FOR PARTS AT 2-3 HOURS OF LABOR, SO THAT IS A GRAND TOTAL OF $350 TO $420 FOR A PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURENCE. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ISSUE. MY FOCUS IS 4 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 32000 MILES ON IT, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING SO ABSURD AS THIS. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, THE LOCKSMITH CAN DO IT FOR 98.00 FOR PARTS AND 20.00 FOR LABOR, WHICH HE SAID TAKES ABOUT 45 MINUTES. GO FIGURE, LOOKS LIKE FORD HAS A REAL RACKET ON REPAIRS, I THINK THEY ARE CROOKS. I JUST HAD IT IN FOR FUEL PUMP RELATED INSSUES AND THE FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN RECALLED. IT HAS BEEN OVER 3 MONTHS WAITING ON PARTS TO FIX THIS RECALL - AGAIN, A BUNCH OF CROOKS, WHEN IT'S COMING OUT OF THEIR POCKET!*AK
BROKEN FRONT AND REAR COIL SPRING. EEDED TO REPLACE WITH NEW FRONT AND REAR COIL SPRINGS.*AK
THE IGNITION OF MY 2000 FORD FOCUS HAS FROZEN REPEATEDLY ONLY TO START WORKING AGAIN SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. IT RECENTLY HAS NOT STARTED WORKING AGAIN AND I AM HAVING TO PAY $200 TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACED. THIS I DISMISSED AS SIMPLY ONE OF THE DOWN SIDES OF BUYING A USED CAR. HOWEVER, AFTER SEARCHING FORUMS ONLINE AND SPEAKING WITH A LOCAL DEALERSHIP I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL 2000/2001 FORD FOCUS MODELS. THE PERSON WHO CAME TO TOW MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT HE RESPONDS TO 10-15 CALLS A WEEK DUE TO THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS WITH THIS MAKE AND YEAR OF VEHICLE. I WAS DIRECTED TO THE NHTSA WEBSITE BY ONE OF THE INTERNET FORUMS AND WAS SHOCKED TO FIND HOW MANY DEFECTS HAD BEEN SITED WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR MAKE/MODEL HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT AMOUNG THEM. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM OCCURING WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL OF CAR AS WELL. I JUST HOPE TO NEVER BE IN A SITUATION WHERE I NEED TO BE SOMEWHERE ASAP AND MY IGNITION SUDDENLY DECIDES NOT TO TURN.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE CHECK LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL RAIL PUMP ASSEMBLY. *AK
IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS THE TRANSMISSION HAS STARTED TO LEAK FLUID (PAID TO FIX THAT), I GET A LETTER ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP TAKE IT IN AND GET THAT FIXED ON THE WAY TO WORK STRAIGHT FROM THE DEALERSHIP ONE OF THE GUYS I WORK WITH COMMENTS ON MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON, MY BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOW NOT GO OFF AND MY CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT GO ON (PAID TO FIX THAT), THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER THE FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF! I WAS PULLING INTO MY PARENTS DRIVEWAY AND THE WHEEL JUST FELL OFF THEN SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY GETTING IT ON A TOW TRUCK AND GETTING IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEN THE TECHNICIAN KEPT ASKING ME WHAT I HIT. REPEATEDLY I TOLD HIM WHAT HAPPENED AND HE FINALLY SAID THAT THAT COULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED UNLESS I HIT SOMETHING (PAID TO FIX THAT), NOW I GET IN MY CAR TO GET ME SOMETHING TO EAT AND MY KEY WILL NOT TURN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED VEHICLE STALLED, CAUSING CONSUMER TO DRIFT OFF THE ROAD. MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE ENGINE FAILED.*AK
AFTER RESEARCHING DIFFERENT COMPLAINT SITES ON THE INTERNET I REALIZED I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS SE. MY CAR OFTEN SHUTTERS WHEN I APPROACH A STOP. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS A SERIOUS ENGINE PROBLEM, THAT THERE IS A SMALL WHOLE IN MY CYLINDER GASKET, AND THE WHOLE CYLINDER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY QUOTED ME $1,700 PLUS TAX FOR THIS WORK. *LA

DRIVER IS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. *AK
IGNITION LOCK UP NECESSITATING TOW AND COSTLY REPAIR.
CAR PURCHASED IN DEC. 03 IN APRIL 04 THE AIR BAG LIGHT JUST CAME ON AND STAYS ON WILL NOT GO OFF. HAVE TO PAY $77 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG. CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY KIND OF ACCIDENT THEREFORE, THE LIGHT SHOULDN'T BE ON.*AK

FUEL PUMP FAILED AND REPLACED AT DEALERSHIP WHO IN RETURN REFUSED TO GIVE BACK THE FULL TANK OF GAS I THOUGHT I HAD (I FILLED UP THAT MORNING AND BROUGHT IT STRAIGHT THERE) ANOTHER MALFUNCTION??? THEY SAY I BROUGHT IT IN AT 1/4 TANK???? THE CAR STILL SPUTTERS!!!! WHAT THE [XXX]. ALSO>>>>>PAINT IS HORRIBLY PEELING OFF TRUNK. MY CAR WILL BE GREEN IN NO TIME. AGAIN DEALER WONT EVEN ANSWER PHONE CALLS BECAUSE I AM OFF WARRANTY (AS IF DRIVING MILES WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PEELING OF PAINT) MOISTURE IN THE FRONT HEADLIGHT NEVER GOES AWAY. AND QUITE FRANKLY I DON'T FEEL LIKE REPLACING THE ROTORS AND PADS EVERY 15000 MILES!!!! REAR DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOES NOT LATCH CORRECTLY. ONCE OPENING THE DOOR IT DOES NOT SHUT. *AK
I BOUGHT A 2000 FORD FOCUS ON MARCH 11 OF 2004 FOR MY DAUGHTER, I ASKED FOR A REPAIR TO BE MADE ON THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM BEFORE BUYING THE CAR, IT WAS SURGING AND HESITATING. I WAS TOLD IT WAS REPAIRED, THE VEHICLE DIDN'T DO THIS THE NEXT DAY WHEN I BOUGHT IT, ON MARCH 31 MY DAUGHTER PULLED IN TO JACK IN THE BOX, PARKED HER CAR, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TOOK HER FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR SURGED FORWARD THROWING HER INTO A CONCRETE WALL, THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, THE WINDSHEILD SHATTERED, THE FRON BUMPER IS TOTALLED, MY DAUGHTER HAS A THIRD DEGREE BURN ON HER RIGHT FOREARM RESULTING FROM THE AIR BAG. *AK
ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 31 2004 MY HUSBAND NOTICED THAT OUR PARKING LIGHTS AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE NOT COMING ON. THEN WE DISCOVERED THAT THEY WOULD WORK ONLY IF THE REAR DEFROSTER WAS ON. WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR MECHANIC WHO SUSPECTED A SHORT AND DISCOVERED BROKEN AND EXPOSED WIRES IN THE HATCH. HE REWIRED THE CAR. I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND THAT 2000 FORD FOCUSES HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 00V411000). I CALLED FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE'S VIN NUMBER BUT TO HOLD ON TO MY RECEIPT IN CASE THE RECALL WAS BROADENED. WHEN I ASKED HIM WHY MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED EVEN THOUGH OTHER FORD FOCUSES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM HE SAID THAT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A COINCIDENCE. *JB
SMELLED FUEL STRONG SMELL AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT. UNSUCCESSFULLY ATTEMPTED TO START RESULTING IN FUEL SPRAYING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK OVER UNDERSIDE OF VEHICLE . *AK
CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. DEALERSHIP INDICATED IGNITION SWITCH WA SDEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPLACCED. *AK
VEHICLE: 2000 FORD FOCUS, WHILE DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, BOTH FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE DASHBOARD AND THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS INJURED, MINOR BURNS AND A SPRAINED WRIST. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAGS OF THE FORD FOCUS. THE WARRANTY ON THE CAR HAS RUN OUT, AND THE INSURANCE ALSO WON'T COVER THIS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED, AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. *AK THE SPRING BROKE WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED THE WHEEL TO LOCK UP AND SKID TO A STOP. *NM
I HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TWICE TO THE DEALERHIP BECAUSE THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. THE DEALERSHIP CUT OUT THE CYLINDER AND REPLACES IT WITH A NEW ONE.*AK
IGNITION CYLINDER HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR THE 3RD TIME IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS. THE LAST 2 TWO THE CYLINDER AND STEERING WHEEL HAVE LOCKED UP, NOT POSSIBLE TO TURN IGNITION KEY OR TURN WHEEL.
WHILE SHIFTING GEARS TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP. CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO UNLOCK THE TRANSMISSION. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACING. *AK
CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO INSERT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I COULD NOT START THE CAR WHILE IN A PARKING DECK LATE AT NIGHT! THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED. THIS IS A PROBLEM FORD KNOWS ABOUT (THERE ARE 177 COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE) AND TSB REPORTS HAVE BEEN FILED FOR THIS PART FOR THE 2000 AND 2001 FOCI. *AK

VEHICLE ENGINE ON A 2000 FORD FOCUS ZX3 W/ 2.0L DOHC ZETEC ENGINE ROUTINELY STALLS WHEN GOING AROUND CORNERS. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TRAVEL ON HIGHWAY ON/OFF RAMPS. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED TWICE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CURVE WHICH CAUSED A TEMPORARY LOST OF CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE ENGINE WILL RESUME NORMAL OPERATION AND CONTINUE. IN BOTH CIRCUMSTANCES, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATE OUT OF A TURN. THE ENGINE WAS CHECKED OUT AND IS IN NORMAL OPERATING ORDER. *JB

IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT START MY VEHICLE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE GARAGE TO HAVE IT REPLACED. IT LOCKED UP ONE OTHER TIME BUT BY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL A LITTLE IT CAME UNLOCKED BY ITSELF. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE THIS TIME. *AK
THE KEY WILL NOT GO INTO THE IGNITION. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE IGNITION TUMBLER IS BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT 5000 MILES AGO AND FORD WILL NOT PAY THE COSTS TO REPAIR THE IGNITION. FORD SAID THERE IS NO RECALL RIGHT NOW, BUT KEEP THE RECEIPTS IN THE EVENT THERE IS ONE. WHY NOT JUST VOLUNTARILY RECALL THE FOCUS? WHY WAIT TO BE ORDERED TO DO SO? THE ESTIMATE IS $350 TO FIX THE IGNITION. THEY CAN'T REPLACE THE RECALLED FUEL PUMP UNTIL THEY FIX THE IGNITION EITHER. WE ONLY KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE MY HUSBAND'S FOCUS HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE FOLKS AT FORD RESPONSIBLE FOR NOTIFYING OWNERS ABOUT A RECALL DID NOT HAVE OUR NEW ADDRESS, DESPITE THE FACT THAT WE SEND FORD TWO CAR PAYMENTS EVERY MONTH. WE JUST REPLACED SOME $300 PART TO KEEP OUR WINDOW ON ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO. THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF. *NM
THE CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO OPEN THE VEHICLE DOORS WITH THE REMOTE. THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO MANUALLY USE THE KEY TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *MR
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL."MY CAR STARTED MAKING A TERRIBLE SCREECHING NOISE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS WITHIN 1/4 MILE FROM A MECHANIC, SO I PULLED IN THERE. THE MECHANIC, DAN, TOLD ME THE FRONT SPRINGS HAD BROKEN ON THE CAR, AND HE EVEN SHOWED ME JUST HOW CLOSE ONE OF THE SPRINGS HAD GOTTEN TO PUNCTURING A TIRE. HAD I DRIVEN TO NAPPANEE, I BELIEVE THE SPRING WOULD HAVE PUNCTURED THE TIRE. WE BOTH LOOKED ON THE INTERNET FOR RECALL INFORMATION SINCE BROKEN SPRINGS SEEMED SO ODD. NOTHING WAS THERE, SO I PAID OVER $300.00 OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. NOW, I SEE CARS LIKE MINE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SPRINGS, AND THAT FORD IS COVERING THESE KIND OF REPAIRS FOR TEN YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WHEN I PAID FOR THE REPAIR. I WANT REIMBURSEMENT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORD MOTOR COMPANY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THROUGH A RECALL RATHER THAN A SERVICE BULLETIN. I CALLED FORD JUST TODAY, AND THE SERVICE PERSON SAID TO TAKE ORIGINAL REPAIR BILLS TO MY DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER FOR REVIEW. THE DEALER IS SUPPOSED TO SEND THEM TO FORD WHERE A REIMBURSEMENT DECISION WILL BE MADE. THIS CONCERNS ME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IN THE WORLD THIS OBVIOUS SAFETY MATTER HAS NOT BEEN MADE A RECALLED ITEM. I DIDN'T KNOW THE SPRINGS WERE BROKEN UNTIL THE MECHANIC TOLD ME. SPRINGS, I DO NOT BELIEVE, ARE SOMETHING THE COMMON ORDINARY PERSON CHECKS DURING OIL CHANGES. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORD INITIATE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL FOR THE SPRINGS SINCE IT'S SUCH AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY CONCERN. HAD I DRIVEN ON THOSE BROKEN SPRINGS MUCH LONGER AND HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER THAN TOWN SPEEDS, I PROBABLY WOULD NO T BE HERE TO WRITE THIS LETTER TODAY. MY CAR HAS BEEN GREAT OVERALL. YES, I'VE HAD A LOT OF RECALL WORK, BUT I STILL LIKE THE CAR AND DO NOT REGRET BUYING IT. I MIGHT BUY ANOTHER FOCUS. BUT STILL, I THINK FORD IS WRONG FOR NOT DOING A RECALL ON THE SPRINGS." *NM
RECALL 03 V 482 000 CONCERNING STALLING. VEHICLE STALLED AND HESITATED WHILE IN MOTION. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THIS RECALL BY THE DEALER, AND PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHEN THE HEAT IS ON (MAINLY) I GET A BURNING SMELL INSIDE MY CAR AND LOOKS LIKE SMOKE IS INSIDE ALSO. WAS CHARGED FOR THE ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC AT ONE PLACE WHO SAID IT MIGHT BE UNDER WARRANTY, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS CHARGED $120 FOR THEM TO SAY MY EMISSIONS CAN OR SOMETHING WAS CLOGGED. STILL WASNT THE PROBLEM AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHERE THE BURNING IS COMING FROM.*AK
THE COMPLETE IGNITION MODULE REQUIRES REPLACEMENT ON MY CAR. I WAS TOLD BY A FORD MOTOR CO CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM IS WIDE SPREAD AND WOULD PROBABLY BE COVERED BY THE COMPANY. I WAS TOLD TODAY THAT ALTHOUGH THERE ARE QUITE A NUMBER OF INCIDENTS WITH THIS PARTICULAR PART IT IS NOT YET A RECALL AND THEREFORE WE MUST PAY APPROXIMATELY $400 TO REPAIR IT. I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS FAIR. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IT IS NOT THE CORRECT LEVEL OF COVERAGE AND WOULD ALSO NOT BE COVERED. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED THREE TIMES WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF. THE FIRST TIME, SHE WENT TO START THE CAR, THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND REPAIRED. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND REPAIRED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE THIRD FAILURE HAPPENED THIS WEEK, WENT TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. IT IS BEING REPAIRED NOW. THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT COULD POSSIBLY BE THE STARTER ALONG WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. *AK IN DEC 2001 THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES AND THE REAR AXLE. THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES WERE REPLACED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND HEATER DID NOT WORK. THE EGR TUBE WAS REPLACED. THE WIPER ARM WAS BROKEN. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON ALL TIME. THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 01/11/06. *JB
