TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR END OFF THE VEHICLE WOULD FEEL LOOSE DRIVEN OVER 20 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE FELT SIMILAR TO THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. THE MECHANIC TOLD THE CONTACT THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 00V303000 (WHEELS: LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS) YET WHEN THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER, HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL IN 2002. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE BEARINGS FAILED EVEN AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 1470,000.
DAUGHTER BOUGHT THE 2000 FORD FOCUS ON 03/01/2011 FROM A DEALERSHIP IN WICHITA, KANSAS. IN APRIL 2011 THE ROD WENT THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH 3 OTHER CARS ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN WICHITA AND TOWANDA, KANSAS. TOW TRUCK TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR 1/2 THE COST OF ANOTHER ENGINE AND LABOR, WHICH WAS OVER $4,000.00 (OUR SHARE WOULD BE OVER $2,000.00). STILL HAVING TO PAY THE LOAN ON A CAR THAT IS NOT RUNNING AND FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE, CAUSE THE CAR IS ON A LOAN THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP. I'VE CALLED A NUMBER OF TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH NO HELP. I'VE TRIED TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS ON THE RODS GOING THOUGH THE ENGINES ON THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS CAR. NO LUCK. I LOOKED UP THE KELLY BLUE BOOK VALUE OF THIS CAR, IN FAIR CONDITION IS ONLY: $1,375.00 FOR TRADE-IN-VALUE. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!! *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED TO BE DRIVEN BY MY DAUGHTER AS A ENTRY LEVEL VEHICLE THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A SAFE, EFFICIENT AND DURABLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. FROM ADVERTISEMENTS I EXPECTED A SAFE AND INEXPENSIVE CAR. DURING A LOW SPEED ACCIDENT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED CAUSING MORE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE THAN THE ACTUAL ACCIDENT ITSELF. FIRST THE ENGINE WAS DISABLED, THE DASH CRACKED, THE WINDSHIELD COMPLETELY KNOCKED OUTWARD AND THE AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. AFTER A LOT OF ONLINE RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT OVER MANY YEARS SENSE 2000 AND 2001,THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME EXACT OUTCOMES. THESE VEHICLES SALES WERE GUIDED TOWARD YOUNGER DRIVERS WHICH WHERE THERE ARE MORE LIKELY LOW SPEED IMPACT ACCIDENTS. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE SAFETY ISSUE AT HAND, THE EARLY DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS AT VERY LOW SPEED IMPACT ACCIDENTS HAS COST OWNERS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES MORE IN REPAIRS DUE TO THE DAMAGES FROM THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ALONE THAN NECESSARY AND HAVE EVEN CAUSED TOTAL LOSS AT OWNERS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES EXPENSE. AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED EARLY ON AFTER THESE ISSUES WERE FIRST DEVELOPING AND THE INVESTIGATION WAS CLOSED QUICKLY WITH THE MANUFACTURE STATING THEY SET A LOW IMPACT DEPLOYMENT SPEED TO SAVE LIVES AND NOT SO MANY VEHICLES EXPERIENCED THESE OUTCOMES. HOWEVER OVER THE YEARS THE RECORDS SHOW THESE LOW SPEED DEPLOYMENTS ARE MORE IN NUMBERS THAN MENTIONED AND EXPECTED AND IS A UNCALLED FOR EXPENSE FOR OWNERS AND THEIR INSURANCE COMPANIES, CAUSING FROM TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLES TO UNAFFORDABLE INSURANCE RATES DUE TO THE ENORMOUS COST TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE AIRBAG SYSTEMS AS WELL AS DASHBOARD AND WINDSHIELD DAMAGES,WHEN THE PASSENGERS LIVES WERE NOT REALLY AT STAKE. IN MY DAUGHTERS CASE,THE AIRBAG NEVER WAS A SAFETY TOOL AS THE AIRBAG NEVER REALLY TOUCHED HER. THEREFORE IT WAS A UN-NEEDED DEPLOYMENT SET BY THE MANUFACTURE WITH DAMAGES AT OUR EXPENSE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK ABNORMALLY AS THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. THE VEHICLE LATER STALLED YET THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND ADVISED THAT THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULAR WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V482000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE RECALL WAS ONLY EFFECTIVE FOR TEN YEARS AND THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE TEN YEAR LIMITATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 167,913.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 FORD FOCUS ON CAUGHDENOY ROAD IN CLAY, NY WHEN THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN HIT OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT OCCURRING. MY WINDSHIELD GLASS WAS SHATTERED SEVERELY, LEADING TO $335 IN DAMAGE FOR THE WINDSHIELD ALONE. THE AIRBAG COVER ALSO DID NOT COME OFF PROPERLY, LEADING IT TO CAUSE THE DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WERE SLIGHT INJURIES TO MY FINGER (A SMALL CUT) CAUSED BY THE AIR BAG, SINCE I PLACED MY HAND IN FRONT OF ME IN SHOCK, AND THE CAR IS CURRENTLY UNDRIVABLE DUE TO ITS CONDITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP (03V482000), THE FUEL PUMP FAILED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED PER THE RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD ONLY REPAIR THE FREE RECALL REPAIR ONE TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY AND ANOTHER RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON A HILL AT 10:30 P.M. I SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND CONTROL OF THE CAR NEAR THE CREST OF THIS HILL. THE CAR DRIFTED BACK ALMOST IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE BRAKES AND ENGINE WEREN'T WORKING AS THE CAR PICKED UP SPEED IN REVERSE UNDER ITS OWN POWER I.E., FROM THE SLOPE OF THE HILL. IT CONTINUED BACKWARD UNTIL COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP WITH SEVERE IMPACT. THE CAR WAS STOPPED BY A STORM SEWER CULVERT (DITCH) TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE LEFT REAR OF THE CAR AND UNDERCARRIAGE WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED I.E., CATALYTIC CONVERTER, MUFFLER, REAR AXLE, ETC. THE CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND HAD RECENTLY BEEN INSPECTED. THE CAR WAS DEEMED A COMPLETE LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. I CAN PROVIDE MORE DETAILED INFORMATION INCLUDING A POLICE REPORT IF REQUESTED. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE KEY COULD NOT BE INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION AND RENDERED THE VEHICLE USELESS THIS EVENING. IT APPEARS FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS VERY COMMON FAILURE ACCORDING TO MANY OWNERS (VIA ONLINE FORUMS) WITH THE SAME ISSUE. FORD DOESN'T CONSIDER IT A SAFETY ISSUE AND HENCE NOT RECALL WORTHY. CONSIDER THIS, WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED TO MY WIFE THIS EVENING AFTER WORK, IT WAS 6 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OUTSIDE AND DARK TOO (AND WELL INTO THE NEGATIVE DIGITS WITH THE WIND-CHILL). THIS CLEARLY SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE IN THIS REGARD FOR ANYONE...LUCKILY OUR 5 & 3 YEAR OLD CHILDREN WERE IN THE SAFETY OF INDOOR DAYCARE AT THE TIME (WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH TWO SMALL KIDS LATE AT NIGHT IN A PARKING LOT WITH SUB ZERO TEMPS?) ACCORDING TO A PROFESSIONAL LOCKSMITH, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HE FIXED THE SAME THING ON ANOTHER FOCUS THIS MORNING. HE WILL BE REPLACING THE IGNITION CYLINDER WITH A NON OEM CYLINDER WHICH WILL REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE OEM CYLINDER HAS KNOWN ISSUES. THE REPLACEMENT CYLINDER (MADE BY A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER DOES NOT) DOES NOT HAVE THE FAULTY MECHANISM THE OEM CYLINDER HAS. THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALSO "LOCKED" AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE TO THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I WOULD "HOPE" THAT THIS FAILURE WOULDN'T OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. CATASTROPHE COULD BE THE RESULT. *TR
MY WIFE DROVE TO THE MOVIES. AFTER THE MOVIES SHE FOUND SHE COULDN'T TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. SHE JIGGLED IT AND TRIED FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE CALLING ME. THE CAR IS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. MY WIFE AND HER FRIEND WERE STRANDED IN A BAD PART OF TOWN DUE TO A MALFUNCTION. WHEN I CALLED MY DAD ABOUT IT (HE IS A SERVICE MANAGER FOR A CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP) HE TOLD ME IT'S A TERRIBLY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2000-2003 FOCUS. I CALLED FORD. THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. SAYS THE FIX THEM ALL THE TIME. I ASKED WHY IT WASN'T RECALLED SINCE MY WIFE WAS LEFT STRANDED AND THEY WOULDN'T ANSWER. I AM JUST GLAD THAT MY KIDS WEREN'T IN THE CAR. IT WAS ONLY 20 DEGREES OUTSIDE. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO START HIS VEHICLE THE KEY WOULD BECOME STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND HE WOULD BE UNABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE TUMBLERS HAD COLLAPSED AND THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 102,000. UPDATED 6/8/11 *CN UPDATED 06/23/11

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE PERFORMED WHEN THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRINGS HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED BOTH COIL SPRINGS AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE DEALERS ADVICE AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,964.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE SEEMED TO BE IDENTICAL TO RECALL 03V482000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING SEVERELY. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS A TIRE BLEW AND THE CONTACT BARELY MISSED CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TIRE AND HUB BEARING. THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO WOBBLE EXCESSIVELY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,196.
2000 FORD FOCUS, REAR DOORS WILL NOT CLOSE, CURRENTLY USING DUCT TAPE. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL, I'M TOLD NOT MY VIN NUMBER. LOOKED ONLINE, MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE, ALSO NOT THEIR VIN NUMBER. IT APPEARS TO BE MUCH MORE WIDE SPREAD THAN FORD WANTS TO ADMIT. *TR
IGNITION SWITCH IN 2000 FORD FOCUS LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT TURN. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS FAILURE WERE THAT I MISSED A VERY IMPORTANT DOCTORS APPOINTMENT. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE $400.00 THE FORD PLACE SAID IT WOULD COST TO FIX IT. WHY HAS THIS PART NOT BEEN RECALLED? IT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED AN UNUSUAL NOISE FROM THE REAR TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,442 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,492.
I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND THE KEY WONT TURN IN THE IGNITION. I HAVE MET 50 MORE PEOPLE SINCE YESTERDAY WHO HAVE ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM. I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE AN IGNITION ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A FORD MISTAKE. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO ADD FUEL TO THE VEHICLE, WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND FELL TO THE GROUND WITH A FULL TANK OF GASOLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE STRAPS. THE CONTACT DID NOT IN INFORM THE DEALER NOR WAS THE MANUFACTURER AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,944. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 97,000.
MY 2000 FORD FOCUS STALLS WHENEVER I COME TO A STOP, IT OCCURS EVERYDAY AND AT TIMES MY CAR HAS SHUT OFF RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ALMOST CAUSING COLLISIONS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, FORD HAS NOT CONTACTED ME IN REGARDS TO THE RECALL NOR HAVE THEY RETURN ANY OF MY ATTEMPTS TO GET THE PROBLEM SOLVED. *TR
NORMAL DRIVING WHEN ACCELERATING OR GOING ON RAMPS ONTO THE HWY. ALSO IT HAPPENS WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS ONTO STREET ETC. CAR STALLS, OR THE POWER GETS CAUGHT OFF. THIS PROBLEM LED TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC CAR HIT MY CAR AS THE CAR STALLED WHEN I WAS MAKING LEFT HAND TURN. IT OCCURS OFTEN WHEN BELOW 1/3 FUEL TANK OF FUEL. FORD HAD ISSUED EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE 10 YEARS ONLY SINCE INITIAL PURCHASE DATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH; YET, THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 69,000.
I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS. AFTER DRIVING IT TO A GAS STATION I PUMPED MY GAS AND GOT BACK INTO THE CAR TO LEAVE. I PUT MY KEYS INTO THE IGNITION AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN AND THE WHEEL WAS LOCKED. I COULD NOT GET IT TO TURN AT ALL. SEVERAL PEOPLE TIRED TO GET IT TO TURN INCLUDING A TOW TRUCK DRIVER AND A MECHANIC. ALL SAID IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN FORD FOCUS'. *TR

WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAD SUDDENLY LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING AND COULD NOT BE MOVED IN ANY DIRECTION, THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. SECONDS LATER, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 106000.
THE KEY HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION THREE TIME NOW. THE FIRST TIME WE COULD NOT GET THE CAR STARTED IN A ROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD, AND HAD TO LEAVE IT OVER NIGHT. THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE IN ORDER TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. THIS LAST TIME I ALSO HAD TO REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHERE THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO LOCK -UP. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTY ON THIS FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTY FOR THIS FAILURE. THEY OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,530 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000. FORM RETURNED NO CHANGE

HE HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FOR IT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE CONTACT REPLACED AND CHECKED ALL COMPONENTS WITHIN THE FUEL SYSTEM EXCEPT FOR THE FUEL PUMP; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO RECALL 03V482000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,500.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 50 MPH AND HEARD A LOUD POP. AT FIRST I BELIEVED IT TO BE A TIRE BLOW OUT SO I PULLED OVER. ON CLOSER INSPECTION, IT WAS THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING THAT HAD BROKEN AND WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE TIRE. HAD I NOT PULLED OVER, THE COIL SPRING WOULD HAVE FULLY PUNCTURED THE TIRE AND CAUSED A BLOW OUT. FORD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE BUT DENIED MY REQUEST BECAUSE MY VEHICLE'S EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED THE PREVIOUS YEAR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL, A BROKEN SPRING CAN EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
2000 FORD FOCUS. AFTER PUMPING GAS AND THEN STARTING THE ENGINE. THE CAR STARTS AND THEN DIES. THE RPM. GOES JUST UNDER 2 AND THEN DROPS DOWN TO NOTHING AND THE ENGINE STALLS. I NOTICED SLIGHT HESITATION IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS IN JUNE OF 2009, AND REQUESTED THAT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP CONSIDER REPLACING THE FUEL SENDER AND PUMP BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN INTERNAL FORD CAMPAIGN REPLACEMENT PART ISSUE. THEY INDICATED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A SEVERE HESITATION, THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THAT WORK UNDER THE REPLACEMENT CAMPAIGN. THIS HESITATION CONTINUED BUT VERY INTERMITTENTLY. THEN IN JULY 2010, I WAS DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER IN THE ABOVE CAR, AND ATTEMPTED TO GET ON INTERSTATE 95. THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE SEVERE HESITATION ISSUES WHEN I GASSED IT, AND I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR ABOVE ~ 35 MPH AS CARS SWERVED PAST ME HONKING BECAUSE I COULD NOT ACHIEVE HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I DROVE IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE WITH FLASHERS ON AND GOT OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT AND RETURNED HOME VIA LOCAL ROADS WITH THE SYMPTOMS STILL SHOWING (SEVERE HESITATION). I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS HAVING THE FUEL SENDER AND PUMP PROBLEM OF THE RECALL, BUT ALSO INDICATED THE COST WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY FORD BECAUSE FORD HAD A TEN YEAR LIMIT ON REPLACEMENT ! I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO CHANGE THIS FAULTY FUEL ASSEMBLY A YEAR EARLIER (WHEN IT WAS STILL COVERED), YET NOW ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE BUT REQUIRED ME TO PAY FOR REPAIRING THE PROBLEM, AFTER HAVING SUBJECTED MY FAMILY TO SEVERAL NEAR-ACCIDENTS ON THE INTERSTATE DUE TO THIS KNOWN SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. THEY INDICATED I COULD WRITE TO FORD HQ CONCERNING THE ISSUE. I HAD THE WORK DONE BY THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT HAD TO BE DONE. THE PROBLEM NOW NO LONGER OCCURS. I WROTE TO FORD'S CUSTOMER RELATION CENTER ON AUG 17, 2010, DESCRIBING THE ABOVE SITUATION. I RECEIVED A LETTER DATED SEPT. 1, 2010, INDICATING THAT FORD AGREED WITH THE DEALERSHIP'S DECISION, AND WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS BECAUSE "LIMITS MUST BE PLACED ON THOSE EFFORTS" TO RESOLVE SUCH PROBLEMS. I AM ANGRY THEY EXPOSED MY FAMILY TO SUCH DANGER YET REFUSED TO ALLOW REPLACEMENT PRIOR TO THE ISSUE AND REFUSES TO PAY. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE ONE AFTERNOON DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL ALMOST AS IF IT WERE OUT OF GAS BUT IT WASN'T. BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO RIGHT HAND LANE AND INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AS THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. AFTER SITTING IN THE EMERGENCY LANE FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES THE CAR STARTED. I BEGAN TO MAKE MY WAY BACK IN TRAFFIC WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE AND VEHICLE AGAIN STARTED TO STALL. I WAS TERRIFIED. I FINALLY MADE IT TO THE NEXT EXIT WHERE I LEFT THE CAR AND HAD A MECHANIC PICK IT UP. NO TROUBLE CODES WERE DETECTED. THIS WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING. IT SEEM TO GET A LOT WORSE DURING SUMMER MONTHS. I HAVE REPLACED SO MANY PARTS ON THIS CAR AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY NUMEROUS TECHNICIANS BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I HAVE CHECKED FOR RECALLS AND THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS WITH THE SAME YEAR,MAKE, AND MODEL BUT FOR SOME REASON MY CAR ISN'T LISTED IN THE RECALL. EVERY TIME I DRIVE THIS CAR I AM NERVOUS WRECK. HOPING AND PRAYING THAT I WILL MAKE IT SAFELY.

MY YEAR 2000 FORD FOCUS ZX3 HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME IGNITION ISSUES. I COULD PUT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION, BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY THE CASE IF THE WHEEL WAS LOCKED. USUALLY AFTER SOME JIGGLING OF THE KEY IT WOULD TURN AND I COULD START THE CAR. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS IN AUGUST OF 2004. IT BEGAN TO HAPPEN ABOUT TWICE A MONTH. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN FIX THE ISSUE, BY RE-MAKING THE KEY AND PROGRAMMING THE NOW THE KEY WON'T TURN AT ALL. IN SHOPPING AROUND DEALERSHIPS THEY BELIEVE THE PRICE WILL BE AROUND $300 IF THE CYLINDER IS NOT DAMAGED (BY THEIR OWN KEY?) FOR $500, PLUS THE COST TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THEM SO THEY CAN PROGRAM THE KEY. A LOCAL LOCKSMITH HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE FORD FOCUS. IF SO, WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RECALLED? *TR
THE FORD FOCUS COLLIDED HEAD-ON WITH A PLYMOUTH NEON THAT WAS ON A DARK ROADWAY WITH ITS LIGHTS OFF AFTER A PRIOR COLLISION. THE BUCKLE PRETENSIONER FOR THE FORD DRIVER FIRED, BUT THE RETRACTOR DID NOT LOCK ALLOWING THE DRIVER TO STRIKE HIS HEAD ON THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS MATERIAL WORN AWAY FROM THE B-PILLAR FROM THE RAPID EXTENSION OF WEBBING, AND LATCH PLATE HAD A CHANNEL CARVED INTO THE PLASTIC, WHERE THE WEBBING RAPIDLY PASSED THROUGH THE LATCH PLATE. THERE WAS NOT EVIDENCE THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE ANY SIGNIFICANT RESTRAINING FORCE.

I HAVE OWNED A 2000 FORD FOCUS FOR OVER 9 YEARS. I HAVE HAD 3 IGNITIONS INSTALLED IN THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS CURRENTLY SITTING AT THE MECHANICS AWAITING A 4TH.
