HAD I KNOWN ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE BRAKE DUST THAT COATS ON THE WHEELS,ESPECIALLY THE FRONT WHEELS,I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR.IN ORDER FOR THIS CAR TO LOOK DECENT I HAVE TO GET ON THE GROUND ON MY HANDS AND KNEES USING A SOLVENT AND WATER ALONG WITH A LOT OF ELBOW GREASE AND A BRUSH AND SPONGE AND LITERALLY CLEAN THESE WHEELS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK.A SIMPLE DRIVE THROUGH A CAR WASH WILL NOT CLEAN THIS BRAKE DUST ADEQUATELY.I HAVE CALLED FORD THREE TIMES IN THE LAST FEW YEARS COMPLAINING THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND OF COURSE THEY DENY IT!THE LAST CALL I MADE A CONSUMER REP FROM FORD READ FROM A BULLETIN THAT THEY PUT OUT INSTRUCTING OWNERS AS TO HOW TO CLEAN OFF THE BRAKE DUST.IF THERE WAS NOT A DEFECT WHY ARE THEY PUTTING IT IN BLACK AND WHITE TO BE READ? I AM DISGUSTED WITH THEIR ATTITUDE AND WOULD LIKE TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT FEEL FRUSTRATED THAT THEY WILL ONLY "LAUGH"AT ME.ANY ADVICE?I WILL GLADLY TAKE PART IN ANY CLASS ACTION THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF???
ENGINE STALLS THEN RESTARTS. OCCURS UNDER ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS. OCCURS IN WARMER WEATHER VS WINTER. DEALERS TEND TO INDICATE FUEL PUMP OVER HEATING AS PROBLEM. FUEL PUMP IS IN GAS TANK COOLED BY 12+ GALLONS OF FUEL. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS RIGHT LONG SIDE FUEL TANK. FUEL TANK HAS TEMP INSULATION ON SIDE THAT FAVORS FUEL TANK. THE MASS OF THE FUEL TANK HAS TO EXCEED OPERATIONAL TEMP SPEC OF FUEL PUMP TO CONTRIBUTE TO ANOMALY.
LET'S SEE, WHERE SHALL I BEGIN. WITHIN MONTH OR TWO OF PURCHASE OF 2000 FOCUS SEDAN IT WAS BACK IN THE SHOP FOR THE FRONT A PANEL TRIM. IT TOOK 3 TIMES TO FINALLY GET THAT RIGHT. ALSO LESS THAN 5 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A STRESS FRACTURE (WAS A 1-1.5 HAIRLINE CRACK WHICH APPEARED IN WINDSHIELD). THE WINDSHIELD HAS SINCE BEEN REPLACED AGAIN. WHILE ADJUSTING THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AROUND THE BASE, APPARENTLY FROM SLIGHT PRESSURE OF MIRROR. AND JUST RECENTLY, AUGUST 2003, I'VE NOTICED WATER DROPS FLYING UP FROM ABOVE THE DASHBOARD. NOT SURE IF WINDSHIELD IS LEAKING AROUND THE BOTTOM BASE OR MAYBE A.C. HAVEN'T HAD IT CHECKED YET, BUT IT WILL BE IN THE SHOP THIS WEEK FOR OTHER PROBLEMS I HAVEN'T MENTIONED YET. IT WAS IN SHOP IN LATE 2001 OR EARLY 2002 FOR THROTTLE PROBLEMS. WHILE THE CAR WAS SITTING STILL THE ENGINE WOULD RACE BETWEEN 2.5 AND 3000 RPMS. FORTUNATELY I NEVER USED THE CRUISE CONTROL DURING THAT TIME. LATE 2002 THE TRUNK LOCK MECHANISM APPARENTLY BROKE PREVENTING THE TRUNK FROM SHUTTING PROPERLY. IT WOULDN'T LATCH AT ALL. I HAVE YET TO HAVE THE WIPER MOTOR COVER RECALL FIXED. AND ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE FUEL GAUGE HAS READ EMPTY, NO MATTER HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE IN THE TANK. AND JUST WHEN YOU THINK NOTHING ELSE CAN GO WRONG, IT HAPPENS. ME AND MY WIFE WERE SHOPPING THIS MORNING ON LABOR DAY SATURDAY. WE GOT IN THE CAR AND I WENT TO START IT. MY KEY SOMEHOW WOULD NOT GO INTO THE IGNITION COMPLETELY, NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED. WE EVENTUALLY CALL OUR TRIPLE AAA INSURANCE AND ARRANGE FOR A LOCKSMITH TO COME AND TAKE A LOOK. HE LOOKS AT IT A SECOND AND DECLARES WHAT WE FEAR THE WORST. OUR FOCUS IS THE 7TH FOCUS THIS MONTH HE HAS SEEN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT THE IGNITION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED BY FORD. I BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD.
KEY CYLINDER FAILURE. TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAYS HE TOWS ONE FOCUS A WEEK WITH SIMILIAR PROBLEM. PROBLEM MAY BE CAUSED BY HEAVY KEYRING, WHICH MINE IS. DID HAVE MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE THAT FORD FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. RADIO/CLOCK IS BURNING OUT DIGITAL DISPLAY.
THERE WAS NO POWER IN THE LOCKS OR THE TRUNK RELEASE.AFTER ALOT OF DIAGNOSSES THEY REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR DOOR ACTUATOR.
IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN SO KEY IS STUCK INSIDE. *LA
MY CAR SUDDENLY STALL WHEN I AM STOP IN A LIGTH OR WHEN I AM DRIVING, IT HAS BEEN 4 TIMES AT DEALER BUT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM, THIS MORNING I WAS HIT BY A CAR I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED THE CAR BEHIND ME WASN'T ABLE TO STOP AND HIT ME, THANKS GOD NOTHING HAPPENED IT WAS JUST A SMALL SCRATCH, SO WHEN NHTSA IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, ARE YOU WAITING FOR SOME ONE TO DIE IN A CRASH ACCIDENT, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
CONSUMER WENT OUT TO START CAR AND KEY WOULD NOT TURN, IGNITION WAS LOCKED IN PLACE, IT WOULD NOT MOVE. ALSO, STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OFF SUCH OCCURRENCES. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT SHE IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HER VEHICLE'S IGNITION SWITCH AGAIN. SHE STATES THAT LAST YEAR THIS TIME THE KEY WOULD GO IN THE IGNITION BUT IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK AND TURN. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED IT, SHE HAD ANOTHER SWITCH PUT IN. THIS YEAR THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING. THE KEY WILL GO IN THE IGNITION, BUT IT WILL NOT TURN THE AUTO ON. IT IS LIKE THE SWITCH IS FROZEN IN PLACE. CONSUMER STATES WHEN SHE SPOKE WITH THE MECHANIC ABOUT THE PART THAT IS NOW DEFECTIVE, AND THE YEAR'S WARRANTY IS NOT UP, THE MECHANIC SAYS HE WILL HAVE TO CHARGE HER AGAIN. HE DOES NOT WANT TO HONOR HER WARRANTY ON THE PART WHICH HE PUT ON THE VEHICLE. SHE STATES SHE STILL HAS A COUPLE OF WEEKS LEFT BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. *PH
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP. THIS CAUSED A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE FORCING THE VEHICLE INTO THE GUARD RAIL. NO INJURIES OR FATALITY REPORTED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *PH
I OWN A 2000 ZX3 FORD FOCUS. WELL THE REASON OF MY COMPLAINT IS WHEN TAKING RIGHT HAND TURNS MY CAR FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO STALL. THIS REALLY SCARES ME CAUSE I'VE ALMOST BEEN IN TWO ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF IT. I HEARD THAT ITS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. BAD THING IS IM 1,000 MILES PASSED MY WARRANTY. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY VEHICLE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY, AND BY DOING SO, IT CAUSES STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK. VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN DEALER'S SHOP FOR FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT. AT THE TIME OF FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT MECHANIC BROKE THE PLASTIC COUPLING THAT CONNECTED THE FUEL LINE TO THE FUEL TANK. THE BREAKING OF THE COUPLING CAUSED AN EXPLOSION TO OCCUR IN THE FUEL TANK. *AK
ELECTRONIC SYSTEM-IGNITION SWITCH TROUBLE GETTING KEY IN. ONCE KEY WAS IN, IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. HAD TO BE REPLACED. *PH
THE IGNITION SWITCH ON OUR 2000 FORD FOCUS LOCKED UP. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION AND STRANDED MY WIFE AND CHILDREN. THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE CAR IS 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND ONLY HAS 22,000 MILES. AFTER COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER, THEY REDUCED THE REPAIR PRICE TO ~1/2 OF ESTIMATE AND TOLD ME TO HOLD THE RECEIPT IN CASE THERE IS A RECALL. *JB
ENGINE IDLES AT 3,000 - 4,000RPM'S WHEN CLUTCH IS PRESSED IN. IT DOES THIS AT A STOPPING POSITION AND WHILE DRIVING. FORD DEALER SPOKE WITH FORD ENGINEERS AND WERE TOLD THAT IT IS "A CHARACTERISTC OF THE CAR AND IS NORMAL!"
BOTH LOCKS IN THE REAR DOORS IN MY FORD FOCUS HAVE FAILED. MY DOORS ARE NOW HELD CLOSED WITH BUNGEE CORDS. *JB
MY KEY GOT STUCK IN MY IGNITION, BUT I FINALLY GOT IT OUT BUT THEN COULD NOT INSERT KEY. HAD TO GET IT TOWED AND WAS TOLD BY TOW DRIVER THAT WAS HIS 4TH PICKUP THAT WEEK OF THE SAME TYPE CAR AND SAME PROBLEM. I HAD TO GET IT FIXED MYSELF.*AK
POWER WINDOWS ON 2000 FORD FOCUS FAIL OFTEN. I HAVE HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM ON MANY OTHER FOCI VIA THE INTERNET; BUT I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD 3 POWER WINDOWS FAIL (WHICH IS A SAFETY CONCERN, AS WINDOWS FALL DOWN VIOLENT WHEN THEY FAIL AND REMAIN DOWN, CANNOT BE ROLLED UP AND WILL NOT STAY UP IF MOVED BY HAND LEAVING VEHICLE EXPOSED TO THEFT AND THE ELEMENTS) IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS... TWO OF WHICH HAVE FAILED OUT OF WARRANTY. (WARRANTY IS UP IN ONE MONTH TIME FRAME; BUT HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLE 45,000 MILES.) CONSUMERS ARE SERIOUSLY GETTING BITTEN BY THE COST OF REPLACING FORD'S FAULTY DESIGNED POWER WINDOW ASSEMBLIES. DATE OF MOST RECENT INCIDENT GIVEN. *JB
FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE CAR 3 YEARS OLD! NEED TO REPLACE SPRINGS AND STRUTS AND PRIVATE PLATE.*AK
KEYS DO NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. SHIFTER ALSO MOVES WHEN CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN PARK. CAR WILL LOCK UP ON YOU BEFORE YOU CAN GET YOUR CHILDREN OUT FROM BACK DUE TO KEYS NOT COMING OUT OF IGNITION. WAS IN SHOP FOR REPAIR FOR MATTER WAS NOT REMEDIED. BROUGHT BACK FOR AN ESTIMATE FOR SECOND REPAIR AND WAS TOLD TO REPLACE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. *AK
WHEN PLACING THE KEY IN SIDE THE IGNITION VEHICLE FAILED TO ENGAGE. KEY DIDN'T TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN REPAIR SHOP MULTIPLY TIMES. CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE INCIDENT.*AK
2000 FORD FOCUS BOUGHT NEW HAVE HAD BRAKE PROBLUMS SINCE DAY ONE, FRONT BRAKES WEAR OUT PREMATURLY ONCE AT 24000 MILES NOW AT 48000 MILES AND NOW EVEN THE FRONT ROTORS ARE WORN OUT, IT HAS BEEN THE INBOARD PADS THAT GO BAD. ALSO THE REAR BRAKES SQUEAL VERY BADLY AND HAVE SINCE NEW REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES WITH NO CURE, MY FORD DEALER HAS TOLD ME ALL CARS DO THIS AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, I HAVE SINCE ASKED OTHER FOCUS DRIVES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND MOST SAY THET DON'T HAVE A BRAKE PROBLEM AND HAVE HEARD NO OTHE CAR OF ANY KIND SQUEELING AS MINE DOES IT'S EMBARESSING TO DRIVE AND EVERY ONE LOOKS AT US WHEN EVER WE APPLY THE BRAKES IT'S VERY BAD, THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRENTY BUT FORD WILL NOT ADMIT TO HAVEING A PROBLEM AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, I FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF REGUARDLESS BECAUSE THEY DO HAVE A PROBLEM, I FEEL IT IS BAD ROTORS-STICKING CALIPERS ON THE FRONT AND POSSIBLY A BAD PROPORSHING VALVE AS FOR THE REAR, THE VALVE COULD BE ALSO THE PROBLEM ALONG WITH THE SHOES ALSO, SOMETHING NEEDS DONE I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AT TIMES NOT KNOWING WHAT WILL GO WRONG WITH THE BRAKES NEXT OR WHEN, BUT THIS SQUEEL HAS GOT TO STOP!!!*AK
CAR LOST POWER AND STALLED OUT ON HIGHWAY 6 TIMES BEGINNING IN MAY 2003, INCLUDING 1 TIME NEEDING TOW. FUEL FILTER REPLACED. ISLAND FORD OF STATEN ISLAND WILL NOT CHECK CAR WITHOUT FEE AS IT WAS "3 DAYS PAST WARRANTY." SERVICED 3 TIMES BY 2 DIFFERENT INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS WITH ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTIC CERTIFICATION WITHOUT FINDING PROBLEM. VEHICLE PASSED NYS EMISSIONS RECENTLY.*AK
AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER SEVEN TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ON ONE OCCASION, THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, AFTER ABOUT SIX MINUTES, THE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTARTED. MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED THE ODOMETER WENT BLANK. WHEN THE ODOMETER WAS FUNCTIONAL AGAIN, THE VEHICLE COULD BE STARTED. THE POWER RELAY WAS FOUND OPEN AND WAS REPLACED AND THE FUEL PRESSURE DROPPED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *SCC *JB
THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. *JB THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION AND AS A RESULT THE DRIVER WAS STRANDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER. *TS *NLM

WENT TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY, CAME OUT TO GO HOME, PUT KEY IN IGNITION, WENT HALF WAY, THOUGHT IT WAS ALARM, DID EVERYTHING TO MOVE THE KEY, NOTHING. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. ADVISED BY SERVICE DEPT, THIS PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTRA CARE, AND NOT COVERED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY OVER 36K MILES. VEHICLE ABOUT 36K MILES. ESTIMATE $500.00. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME VEHICLE IN SHOP. CALLED OUT TO FORD, AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE WITH THEIR CARS, AND THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. FORD DEALERSHIP, SO QUICK TO DEVOUR CUSTOMERS, AND WHEN TROUBLE HAPPENS, CAN'T FIND ANYONE WHO CAN HELP. MY CAR IS NOW SITTING AT THE DEALER, WAITING FOR MY AUTHORIZATION TO PAY $500. TO FIX IT. I AM WITHOUT A CAR. WHAT A NIGHTMARE, I'M JUST GRATEFUL, THIS INCIDENT DID NOT HAPPEN FAR AWAY FROM HOME WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. 2000 FORD FOCUS. DRIVING 65 MPH ON FREEWAY. LOUD BANG. CHECKED UNDER VEHICLE, SAW NOTHING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER I WAS PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT DIP ENTERING DRIVE WHEN HORRIBLE NOISE AND GRINDING OCCURRED. SOUNDED LIKE WHEEL WAS GOING TO FALL OFF. AFRAID TO DRIVE. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. RIGHT FRONT SPRING HAD BROKEN. DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING BOTH FRONT SPRINGS/STRUTS. THEY MUST KNOW SOMETHING GENERAL PUBLIC DOESN'T. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT RECALLS, THEY SAID FORD HAD HISTORY OF SPRINGS BREAKING AND RECALLS ON WINDSTARS BUT NOT FOCUS. I DON'T BELIEVE IT. HAS TO BE MANUFACTURERS' DEFECT. SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. CAR ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. SITE INDICATES MANY INCIDENTS IN 2003. PROBABLY MANY MORE NOT REPORTED.*AK
FAULTY AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT IN REAR END COLLISION AT 10 MPH. DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, SHATTERING WINDSHIELD. ALSO, DRIVER SUFFERS 2ND AND 3RD DEGREE BURNS FROM AIRBAG.
FUEL SUPPLY CUTS OUT AND VEHICLE STALLS WHEN MAKING LONG RIGHT HAND SWEEPER TURNS WITH ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED (WOT) WHEN FUEL TANK IS LESS THAN 1/2 FULL. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY ON-RAMPS WHEN BRISK ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED TO SAFELY MERGE INTO TRAFFIC.
IN JULY I HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP AND SENSOR REPLACED AS THE GUAGE WOULD READ EMPTY WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL. TODAY,THE CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS PARKING IT. I SMELLED GASOLINE AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO FIND A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE GROUND. I THEN HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, AS THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRENTY. HOWEVER, BEFORE THE CAR COULD BE TOWED I HAD TO CALL THE FIRE DEPT. AS AAA WILL NOT TOW A CAR LEAKING GAS UNTIL THEY GET AN OK FROM THE FIRE DEPT. *AK
FORD FOCUS 2000-- GAS TANK GETS TO BELOW A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS IT LUNGES AND JERKS. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED . I READ MANY INCIDENTS OF THIS HAPPENING. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS AUTOMOBILE .*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE IS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS LATER, SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE WHEEL BEARING AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THERE IS RECALL # 00V303000 (WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS). THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT FEELS IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 58,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,141.
A CRACK APPEARED AT THE TOP MIDDLE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND WAS MOVING TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD . THIS CAUSED A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER'S VIEW. *AK

IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE I CANNOT LET IT GO BELOW A QUARTER TANK OR THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT'S RUNNING OUT OF GAS. I'VE REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE TO TELL ME WHATS WRONG BUT I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT FROM FORD AS I'VE RESEARCHED AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT ARE THE SAME. HOPING FOR A RECALL......*AK
I OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS. CURRENTLY I AM EXPERIENCING SEVERAL PROBLEMS. THE FIRST IS THE AIR CONDITIONING A/C. THE A/C WORKS ON THE #4 SETTING BUT DOESN'T WORK ON #1, #2, OR #3. NO AIR COMES FROM THE AIR VENTS WHEN THE FAN IS SET TO 1, 2, OR 3 WHETHER THE A/C IS ON OR NOT. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS THE BRAKES. I HAVE LESS THAN 46,000 MILES ON THE CAR, AND THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GOING OUT. I'VE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES ON A CAR BEFORE 70,000 MILES. THE THIRD PROBLEM IS COMPRISED OF THE GAUGES. WHEN I START MY CAR, ALL THE GAUGES GO IMMEDIATELY TO THE RIGHT. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS THEY RETURN TO THEIR PROPER POSITION, BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT IS GOING ON. I FEEL THAT IF I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR DURING THIS PERIOD, THAT I WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT MAY SURGE FORWARD. THE FOURTH PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIFTH PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE. MANY TIMES, ESPECIALLY IN THE IDLE POSITION (AT A STOP SIGN, ETC.), I FEEL THAT THE ENGINE IS GOING TO STALL. IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING ON ALL CYLINDERS. THE SIXTH PROBLEM, AND PROBABLY NOT THE LAST, IS THAT I'VE ALREADY HAD TO DEAL WITH ALL OF THE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE, AND YET THIS CAR IS STILL UNSAFE AND FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THIS EXCEPT OFFER A 5 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY TO NEW FORD FOCUS BUYERS.*AK
ALONG WITH THE ON GOING PROBLEMS I HAVE WITH MY 2000 FORD FOCUS, I RECENTLY STALLED WHILE SITTING AT THE LIGHT, I CAME TO FIND THAT MY POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE WAS SO CORRODED AND BURT. CAUSING ME TO STALL. I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER IN AUGUST OF 2003 THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE INSPECTED AND REROUTED THE BATTERY CABLE AND TORQUED THE PINCH BOLT. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY AND OFFERED TO DO THIS FOR ME FOR 190.00 I DECLINED THE OFFER, NEVER DID THEY MENTION THE CABLES, I HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED THAT SAME DAY. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER MY BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON, I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT'S MY FAULT AND NOW THE ALTERNATOR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE FRAYED POSITIVE CABLE WHICH IS BURNT COMPLETELY IS NOT THEIR FAULT. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE BATTERY CABLES UNLESS I PAY 390.00 TO HAVE THE ALTERNATOR FIXED. THESE ISSUES WITH MY CAR ARE AS A DIRECT RESULT FROM THIS BATTERY CABLE ISSUE. THERE ARE ALSO STILL MANY OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS CAR INCLUDING A LEAK WHICH THEY THINK MEANS THE CAR IS ACTUALLY CRACKED IN HALF. THE SERVICE ADVISOR VERBALLY ATTACKS ME AND GIVES ME THE FINGER AND TELLS ME TO TALK TO THE HAND. THE SERVICE MANAGER STEPS IN AND DOES NOTHING TO HELP ME. IN THE MEANTIME I ALL I WANTED WAS THE CABLES REPLACED AS IT IS STATED IN THE RECALL. SO I CAN DUMP THE PIECE OF CRAP. *LA
IGNITION LOCKED UP AND WON'T START. DEALER STATED THIS PROBLEM WAS COMMON AND CONSUMER SHOULD CONTACT A LOCKSMITH TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *AK
COULD NOT REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND IGNITION SWITH REPLACED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE LOST POWER, CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OF THE ROAD. *AK

AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE HESITATED/SURGED FORWARD AND STALLED. RECALL 03V482000 WAS ISSUED FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL AND YEAR. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. ALSO, THIS VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 00V302000 CONCERNING THROTTLE STICKING PROBLEM DUE TO VIN. *AK
KEY HAD TROUBLE GOING IN TO IGNITION SWITCH, WHEN KEY FINALLY DID GO IN, KEY WILL NOT TURN. CAR WILL NOT START. CAR TOWED TO DEALER, TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID MY CAR WAS 5 OR 6TH THIS WEEK WITH SAME PROBLEM! DEALER INFORMED PROBLEM WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. TOTAL COST WAS ALMOST $600 INCLUDING TOW BILL!*AK
MY FOCUS'S IGNITION FROZE UP AND WAS UNABLE TO OPERATE. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD BEEN REPLACING ALOT OF IGNITION CYLINDERS LATELY. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I BOUGHT FROM FORD DID NOT COVER THE PROBLEM. EVERY OTHER FORD I HAVE OWNED HAS HAD TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACED AS WELL.*AK
STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AFTER PURCHASE. SUDDENLY IN AUGUST, ALL POWER SYSTEMS/COMPUTER TYPE ITEMS BEGAN TO FAIL -- POWER LOCKS, TRUNK RELEASE. THEN, CAR BEGAN (AND STILL DOES) TO SPUTTER AND SHAKE WHEN STOPPED/IDLE UNTIL IT WOULD SHUTDOWN. ALSO, THE RADIO/CD PLAYER WOULD SHUT OFF. CHECKED FOR TSBS FOR THE VEHICLE MODEL & YEAR AND FOUND AT LEAST 15. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER (WORLD FORD SANDY SPRINGS) WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY ARE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED. ONLY OFFICIAL FORD RECALL NOTICES, NOT EVEN NTSA RECALL NOTICES, WOULD BE HONORED. ON TOP OF THIS, WE WOULD BE EXPECTED TO PAY $90 PER COMPLAINT BATCH (THE TSB LIST WAS BATCHED IN TO 3 MAIN AREAS)FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES AND IF ANY OF THE COMPLAINTS WERE RELATED TO A RECALL, THE $90 WOULD BE REFUNDED AS APPLICABLE. I EXPRESSED THAT IF FORD ISSUED A TSB AND THE NTSA ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE, THEN I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE CAR WORKED ON.
AT THE END OF FEBRUARY I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE STEERING LOCKING UP MY FORD HAS NEVER RAN THE SAME SINCE OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER SENT A MECHANIC OUT TO DO A REPORT ON MY VEHICLE AND NOTHING WAS EVER RESOLVED NOW I AM STUCK WITH THIS CAR THAT SEEMS TO BE THE NEXT FORD JOKE. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS SINCE THE ACCIDENT AND THANKS TO A POSSIBLE STEERING KNUCKLE PROBLEM IN WHICH WAS WORKED ON PREVIOUSLY TO THE ACCIDENT IT LOOKS LIKE FORD REALLY SHOULD CONSIDER SELLING TO A REPUTABLE COMPANY.
