THE TUMBLERS IN MY IGNITION FAILED AND THERE WERE 4 OTHER FORD FOCUSES THAT HAS BEEN TOWED IN TO A FORD PLACE FOR THE SAME REASON. THE KEY WON'T GO ALL THE WAY INTO THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE LOCK AND KEY SYSTEM IN MY CAR. I FEEL LIKE IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE CARS INGNITION SWITCHES FOR THE TUMBLERS FAILED .. MY BATTERY CABLE STILL GET CORRODED AND I THOUGHT THEY RECALLED THOSE AS WELL BUT THEY DON'T LOOK CHANGED AT ALL. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND THE CAR SHAKES A LOT NOW THAN BEFORE. IN MY OPINION, THIS CAR IS NOTHING MORE THAN A PIECE OF CRAP. I'VE ONLY HAD IT 3 YEARS AND IT DRIVES LIKE I'VE HAD IT 10 YEARS. MY MOM HAS A BRAND NEW SUV BOUGHT IT THE SAME YEAR I BOUGHT MINE. HERS HAS MORE MILES THAN MINE DOES AND HERS IS DOING FINE.
MY ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON EVEN AFTER 5 FAILED ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY CAR COMPANY DOES NOT WANT TO PAY EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAPPENED BEFORE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT.
WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON I44 WHEN FUEL PUMP QUIT WORKING. CAR STALLED ON HIGHWAY GOING 75 MPH. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THERE COULD OF BEEN A WRECK IF THERE WAS MORE TRAFFIC OR NO SHOULDER. VERY DANGEROUS. *NLM
CONSUMER STATES ENGINE FAILED COMPLETELY AT 66,000 MILES. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH VEHICLE WAS IN A COLLISION. CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE WILL STALL, AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2000 FORD FOCUS THAT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR 10 PROBLEMS/RECALLS. THE LATEST AND MY MAJOR CONCERN IS MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT A VERY LOW SPEED JUST AFTER LEAVING A PARKING LOT SHE HIT A VERY SMALL POTHOLE AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR STALLED. LUCKLY A GENTLEMAN STOPPED AND HELPED HER GET THE CAR OFF THE SIDE. WE HAVE 40K MILES ON THE CAR. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO VICTORY FORD IN LAGRANGE GA. THE CAR WAS THERE FROM MAY 10-MAY 23 FINALLY REPAIRED AT A COST OF 670.00. MY CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE HEARD AND READ OF HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF THESE FUEL PUMP FAILURES AND AFTER MANY NICE BUT INEFFECTIVE ANSWERS FROM FORD I FEEL THAT SOMEONE WILL BE INJURED SERIOUSLY OR DIE DUE TO THESE FAULTY AND POSSIBLY DANGEROUS FUEL SYSTEMS. ALSO MY DEALERSHIP PREVIOUSLY WORKED ON THIS FUEL SYSTEM UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK THE ONLY WAY IT REGISTERED WAS AFTER SLAMMING THE CAR DOORS. THAT WAS REPAIRED IT SEEMS. *NLM

HAD FIXED. RESEARCH WITH NHTSA LISTS 7 TSB'S AND MANY COMPLAINTS FOR SAME DEFECT. REFERRED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE. EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT LIST SPECIFIC PART #S WHEN PURCHASED BUT WHEN WARRANTY WORK IS REQUESTED IT BECOMES PART NUMBER SPECIFIC. ALSO IF THERE ARE SO MANY TSB'S AND CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS WHY DOESN'T FORD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING FAILED, WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. *JB
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. *JB
PASSENGER FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AFTER GOING OVER SPEED BUMP @ 5 MPH. COULD HAVE PUNCTURED TIRE IF NOT IMMEDIATELY NOTICED. 2000 FORD FOCUS, 38,000 MI. *NLM
IGNITION CYLNDER IS STUCK. *JB
THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE LIGHTS WERE TURNING ON AND OFF. THE CAUSE IS UNDETERMINED. *JB
UPON TRYING TO START THE VEHILCE THE KEY STICKS AND WILL NOT TURN EITHER WAY. IT IS SOMETIMES HARD FOR THE KEY TO GO INTO THE IGNITION. *AK
WHEN ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. *AK THIS OCCURRED ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAVELING ON RAMPS AND CLOVER LEAPS. THE POWER WOULD RESUME ON LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PRESSURE WOULD DROP WHEN GOING AROUND CORNERS. (THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER WERE REPLACED) THIS WAS THE SECOND FUEL PUMP THAT WAS REPLACED SINCE AUGUST 2001. *SCC *JB

CONTINUOUS STALLING OF VEHICLE ESPECIALLY ENTERING A FREEWAY ONRAMP THAT HAS A CURVE. IT HAS ALSO STALLED JUST SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH AT LEAST A QUARTER TANK OF GAS. IT WILL START IF I ADD A COUPLE OF GALLONS OF GASOLINE TO THE TANK. I AM ALSO STARTING TO SMELL FUEL AS I DRIVE ON OCCASION. *AK
60000 MILES ON CAR, 4 SETS OF TIRES, 7 RECALLS, DEFECT IN GAS TANK COVER FILLER, 2 SETS OF BRAKES, REAR ALIGNMENT NOT ADJUSTABLE (ADVISED BY INDEPENDENT SHOP) AND HORRIBLE SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER ALL THIS. DEALER HAS BEEN NO HELP WITH TIRE PROBLEM. NEVER BUYING A FORD AGAIN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN. *NLM
MY 2000 FORD FOCUS WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING DRAMATIC HESITATION PROBLEMS AROUND HIGHWAY EXIT CURVES/CORNERS. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 SEPARATE TIMES, WITH IT FINALLY JUST STALLING AND BREAKING DOWN THE LAST TIME. THANK GOD THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE NOT SPEEDING AND DIDN'T CRASH INTO MY REAR END. I WAS ABLE TO ROLL SAFELY A FEW FEET AWAY TO A SMALL SHOULDER AREA. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A SECOND BEFORE STARTING IT AGAIN. IT STARTED RIGHT UP WITH NO PROBLEM. ALSO A FEW WEEKS EARLIER THE CAR WOULDN'T START ONE MORNING. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, WHO SAID IT SIMPLY NEEDED TRANSMISSION FLUID, THEY ADDED IT AND IT STARTED UP. BUT IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS IS WHEN IT BEGAN HESITATING ON CURVES AND FEELING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO CUT OFF. BUT IT HAD HAPPENED ONCE PRIOR TO THAT, IT HESITATED AFTER THE CURVE AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH I WAS STEPPING ON THE GAS. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD, THEY DID A FULL INSPECTION AND TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW FUEL DELIVERY MODULE, A NEW FUEL FILTER AND INJECTION CLEANING (THE LATTER 2 BEING REGULAR MAINTENANCE). BUT THIS FUEL DELIVERY MODULE WAS MAJOR. AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY (NOT THROUGH FORD, BUT WITH GM MAJOR GUARD) ALMOST DIDN'T COVER IT, BUT DECIDED TO COVER MOST OF IT. THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE CAUSE FOR THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE GOING BAD WAS JUST BASIC WEAR AND TEAR OVER TIME. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING OTHER CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS WEB SITE AND AN ARTICLE ON WWW.CARTALKS.CARS.COM. PLEASE RECOMMEND TO FORD TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *JB

WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT STOPPING DISTANCE HAD INCREASED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAD FAILED. *NLM
WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED INSIDE OF THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO TURN OVER. *JB
THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THE FUEL PUMP FAILED. *JB
WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT ALL 4 COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *NLM *CB
2000 FORD FOCUS SE 4-DOOR SEDAN. FRONT DRIVERS-SIDE COIL SPRING FAILED. THE COIL-SPRING HAS A 3 INCH PIECE OF STRAIGHT ROUND TUBING ON THE LAST RING OF THE COIL SPRING. THE SHAPE OF THE COIL CAUSES THE STRAIGHT PIECE OF PLASTIC TUBING NOT BE TIGHT TO THE SHAPE OF THE COIL. I ASSUME WATER, ROAD SALT AND OTHER CONTAMINANTS THAT WOULD CAUSE CORROSION WERE ABLE TO GET UNDER THE PLASTIC TUBING AND CORRODE THE COIL SPRING TO THE POINT OF ITS SUDDEN COLLAPSE AND FAILURE. THE BREAK OCCURRED DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLEEVE OF TUBING. IT BROKE AFTER 3 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS WITH ONLY 44000 MILES ON THE CAR. A SOLID STEEL COIL SPRING SHOULD NOT CORRODE AND SNAP. *JB
KEY WON'T TURN IN THE IGNITION, STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED ALSO. WAS TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO TOW IT TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND PAY FOR REPAIRS. *NLM
CAR STALLS. SOMETIMES DIES WHILE DRIVING EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 55 MPH. HAVE TOWED CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO DEALER BUT ONCE THERE, THE CAR STARTS AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG SO I HAVE TO PAY THE TOWING. LAST TRIP TO DEALER (ABOUT A WEEK AGO, THEY DID FIND SOMETHING WRONG AND OF COURSE WHAT THEY FOUND WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY) NOW IT HAPPENED AGAIN....THIS TIME WE GOT STRANDED OUT OF TOWN. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE FORD FOCUS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR SO MY SON WOULD HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION BUT HAS BECOME MORE OF A PROBLEM THAN NOT HAVING A CAR AT ALL. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS, DUE TO A FAULTY SENSOR. *JB
THE BOLTS FELL OUT OF THE SEAT, WHICH CAUSED THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT TO COLLAPSE . *JB
WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED INSIDE OF THE IGNITION, THE KEY BECAME STUCK. *JB
I HAVE NOTHING BUT GRIEF WITH MY 2000 FOCUS. 1) MOST RECENTLY I HAD WAS TRAVELING AT 50 KM/H WHEN MY FRONT RIGHT COIL SPRING DROPPED OUT OF THE FRONT END. I PHONED FORD REPEATEDLY AND EVEN THOUGH I DISCOVERED A PROGRAM COVERING MY THE COIL SPRINGS ON I WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND SAYING THAT I WAS OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM RECALL DATE BY A FEW MONTHS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS MADE AT THE WAYNE ASSEMBLY PLANT; WHERE OTHER PROGRAM RECALLS WERE COMING FROM. I ENDED UP IN A FIELD WHEN THE COIL SPRING BROKE, NARROWING MISSING THE CAR NEXT TO ME. I WAS THANKFUL THAT I HAD ESCAPED WITH MY LIFE BUT NOT TO BE COVERED BY FORD WAS A SLAP TO THE FACE. I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THE WAY THEY HANDLED THIS SITUATION AND I AM DETERMINED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS SITUATION. MY ALIGNMENT IS ALSO OUT BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT BUT CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT RIGHT NOW. 2) FOUR TIMES SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR, THE CAR HAS STALLED. TWICE ROUNDING A CORNER GOING ONTO A HIGHWAY AND 2 TWICE ON A STRAIGHT AWAY HIGHWAY. IT ALWAYS HAPPENED WHEN THE GAS GAUGE WAS BELOW 1/8 OF A TANK AND SO I THOUGHT IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS. OF COURSE I BLAMED MYSELF. BUT FOUR TIMES ? I BEGAN TO BECOME SUSPICIOUS WHEN THE CAR BEGAN CHUGGING UPHILL ON A RECENT LONG DISTANCE TRIP. I BARELY MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION. WHEN I TOOK INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN SUDBURY ONTARIO THE SERVICEMAN TOLD ME THAT KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM THOUGH MOST OF THEM CAME IN UNDER WARRANTY. OF COURSE THE PROBLEM AT FIRST ONLY PRESENTED ITSELF WHEN THE TANK WAS NEAR EMPTY AND SO I ALWAYS OR NEARLY ALWAYS MADE SURE TO HAVE AT LEAST HALF A TANK FULL OF GAS WHEN DRIVING. TODAY THE PROBLEM IS PRESENT REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE CAR. VERY CONVENIENT FOR FORD SEEING AS THOUGH I AM OUTSIDE THE 60,000 KM WARRANTY PLAN. AGAIN I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAYS ANYMORE. I AM HOPING THAT FORD WILL HEAR ME OUT A PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
I HAVE HAD A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE AT STAN MORRI FORD IN TRACY, CA AND THOUGHT OTHERS SHOULD KNOW OF MY PLIGHT (AND PERHAPS THIS WOULD MAKE A COMPELLING CONSUMER AFFAIRS STORY). A FEW WEEKS AGO, I WAS COMMUTING IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS ON I580 WHEN, FOR NO REASON, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY. I WAS THROWN FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE TO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE CAR, THE CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE AND I WAS "MOVED" ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC TO LAND IN A SHALLOW DITCH JUST EAST OF THE SANTA RITA ROAD EXIT. AFTER REGAINING MY COMPOSURE AND COUNTING MY BLESSINGS MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR, I WAITED FOR THE SMOKE TO CLEAR AND FINISHED MY DRIVE HOME, SHAKEN, CONFUSED AND VERY RATTLED. UPON MY ARRIVAL HOME, I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY (AAA) AND STAN MORRI FORD. AAA OPENED A CLAIM, BUT COULD DO NOTHING AS THERE HAD BEEN NO REAL ACCIDENT. GARY RIGGS (SERVICE MANAGER AT STAN MORRI FORD) ASKED ME TO COME IN. OVER THE PAST TWO WEEKS, STAN MORRI FORD (IN CONJUNCTION WITH FORD CORPORATE) HAS INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE. THEIR FINDINGS, BASED ON DATA FROM THE ON-BOARD COMPUTER, WAS THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN "INVOLVED IN A LATERAL COLLISION" AND BOTH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND STAN MORRI FORD HAVE DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND REFUSE TO HELP ME. PICTURES TAKEN BY MYSELF AND AAA CLEARLY SHOW NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR. OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS, I HAVE PURCHASED FOUR DIFFERENT CARS FROM STAN MORRI FORD. AS A LOYAL FORD CUSTOMER, I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED BETTER TREATMENT. I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE "SUE-HAPPY" PEOPLE. I EXPLAINED TO EVERYONE INVOLVED THAT I SIMPLY WANTED OUT OF THE CAR, AS IT WAS NOT SAFE; I WOULD NEVER HAVE MY KIDS OR WIFE IN THERE AGAIN. EVEN IN THE FACE OF THE CONFIRMED PROBLEMS AND VARIOUS RECALLS ON THE FOCUS, THEY WILL STILL NOT ASSIST ME. I PURCHASED A 2000 FOCUS SE ON JUNE 5, 2001 WITH 23,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY 3YR./36,000.I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE API COMPANY AT THE COST OF $1,069 TO COVER 6YR./60,000.I THOUGHT I'D BE PROTECTED. WRONG ! THE VEHICLE ALWAYS HAD HORRENDOUS BRAKE DUST BUT THE WORST WAS YET TO COME. IN DECEMBER 2002, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING AND BEGAN TO NOTICE A ROUGH IDLE. WELL, IT'S COLD IN BUFFALO, NY SO WE THOUGHT IT JUST NEEDED MORE TIME TO WARM UP. BY EARLY MARCH WE EXPERIENCED STALLING PROBLEMS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AFTER STALLING AT 45MPH WE HAD ENOUGH. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO BASIL FORD. WITH ONLY 32,000 MILES ON IT WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD WAS CRACKED AND THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY RAN OUT ON 1/29/03. FORD WANTED ABOUT $1,700.00 TO REPLACE IT. WELL, WE THOUGHT IF FORD WOULDN'T COVER THE REPAIR THAT THE API EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD. ANOTHER ERROR IN JUDGMENT ! API SAID THERE WAS CARBON IN THE CYLINDER AND THEY WOULDN'T COVER. FINALLY, AFTER THREATS TO LEAVE THE CAR AT THE DEALER OR SEEK LEGAL ADVICE TO REMEDY, BASIL REPLACED THE CYLINDER HEAD FOR $400.00. WHO EVER HEARD OF A CRACKED HEAD AT 32,000 MILES ? WE HAD ONLY PUT ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON IT ! ALSO THE KEYLESS ENTRY ON THE DRIVER DOOR WOULD ONLY WORK ON OCCASION AND THE KEY NEVER DID WORK ON THE TRUNK (TOLD THE LOCK NEEDED REPLACEMENT) WHICH WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IF WE WANTED FIXED. SINCE THE INSPECTION WAS COMING UP IN JUNE 2003 AND THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WOULD PROBABLY NEED REPLACEMENT JUST LIKE ALL FOCUS'S DO, WE TRADED IN THE CAR TO AVOID THE MONEY TRAP. THAT CAR WAS THE WORST HUNK OF JUNK I'VE EVER HEARD OF! I PAID $10,500.00 FOR THE CAR IN JUNE 2001 WITH 23,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD A HARD TIME GETTING $5,000.00 AS A TRADE WITH 33,000 MILES IN MAY 2003 ! IT WAS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF OF MY LIFE ALSO I LOST OUT WHEN I CASHED IN THE WORTHLESS API WARRANTY.
WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE STALL FOR NO REASON. WHEN WE ARE AT 1/4 OF A TANK OR AT 1/2 A TANK THE ENGINE WILL SPUTTER OR STALL FOR NO REASON.
SINCE AT LEAST APRIL 2003 THE BACK RIGHT PASSAGNER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT RISE OR LOWER NOR WILL THE LOCK ON THE DOOR LOCK FROM THAT SEATING POSITION. THE DRIVER ONLY CAN DO IT. WHILE IN NM DRIVING FROM KY TO AZ, MY 2000 SE BEGAN TO LOSE ENGINE POWER. AS I DROVE AT 70 MPH THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL, AS IF NO GAS WAS GETTING THROUGH THE ENGINE AND THE CAR BEGAN TO DIE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR UPWARDS OF 2 HOURS, START THE CAR AGAIN AND DRIVE. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES FROM NM TO AZ; OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I CALLED THE 1800 FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE NUMBER AND WAS TOLD SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY WOULD NOT SEND A TOW FOR ME. A COMMERCIAL TRUCKER WAS NICE ENOUGH TO FOLLOW ME TO THE NEXT TOWN TO A FORD DEALER. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO LOOK AT MY CAR THE NEXT DAY AROUND NOON, AS HE HAD 6 OTHER FOCUS OWNERS IN HIS SHOP WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I DECIDED TO PRESS ON TO AZ WHILE DRIVING UNDER 55 MPH ON I-10. THE CAR SAT IN MY GARAGE FOR 3 WEEKS BEFORE I DROVE IT AGAIN. IT IS STILL DOING IT'S DRIVE AND DIE AND I AM CONCERNED NOW MORE THAN EVER WITH THE NUMBER OF RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE WHAT THE DEAL IS.
VEHICLE ENGINE STALLS AND HESITATES WHEN I GO AROUND A RIGHT HAND BEND. THIS HAPPENS VERY REGULARLY AS I GET ONTO LARGE OR INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS.
-2000 FORD FOCUS LX - BOUGHT USED ON APRIL 14TH. BOTH INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF CAR IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, RAN EXTREMELY WELL, ONE OWNER REPO, CLEAN TITLE. -WAS REAR-ENDED IN VERY LOW SPEED, LOW IMPACT COLLISION, NO FRAME BUCKLING, BENDING, OR DAMAGE TO CAR OTHER THAN SCRATCHED REAR BUMPER - TRUCK LID WILL NOT LATCH NOW. MULTIPLE MECHANICS AND APPRAISERS - UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM. -WHILE DRIVING, DASH GAUGES AND CAR SPEAKERS WILL SUDDENLY STOP WORKING (SPEEDOMETER GOES TO 0, ODOMETER GOES BLANK, FUEL GAUGE GOES TO 0) AND THEN SPONTANEOUSLY COME BACK ON WITH NO AFTER EFFECTS. CAR STALLED WHILE STOPPING AFTER ONE OF THESE EPISODES. OCCASIONALLY WHEN CAR IS STARTED, THE ODOMETER WILL SPONTANEOUSLY RESET WITHOUT PROMPTING (NOT THE MAIN ONE, THE RESETABLE ONE). -RANDOM CODES BEING THROWN TO COMPUTER - CAR HAS HAD TWO DIAGNOSTICS RUN IN TWO WEEKS, THE FIRST FOR TWO CODES: 1. A MECHANICAL ISSUE, 2. FOR ELECTRICAL DIFFICULTIES IN THE DASHBOARD - THE CAR WAS THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AND NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND. SEVEN DAYS LATER THE COMPUTER REPORTED AN "EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM LEAK" - ONCE AGAIN THE CAR WAS THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AND NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND. AFTER THE FIRST DIAGNOSTIC, A REAR BRAKE LIGHT WENT OUT - AFTER REMOVING THE LIGHT AND "FIDDLING" WITH THE WIRING, THE MECHANIC GOT ITS NORMAL FUNCTION TO RESUME. -THE CAR HAS 36,000 MILES, I HAD THE BRAKES INSPECTED THE DAY AFTER THE CAR STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ROTORS ARE WARPED TERRIBLY AND I WILL HAVE TO HAVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACED, INCLUDING THE REAR DRUMS - I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS NORMAL, ESPECIALLY IN SUCH A YOUNG CAR. -IT HAS HAD TWO RECALLS FILLED IN THE LAST MONTH, ONE FOR A PINCH BOLT AND THE OTHER FOR A WHEEL BEARING. NO OTHER RECALL CAMPAIGNS WERE OPEN. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE CONTINUED SINCE THE RECALLS WERE COMPLETED. -I'VE OWNED THIS CAR FOR LESS THAN A MONTH. THE CARS PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION CAME UP CLEAN. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER ANY KIND OF FACTORY WARRANTY.*JB

IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED UP AND WILL NOT TURN. HAS TO BE REPLACED. *JB
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN THE PASSING LANE AT 65 MPH WITH AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND ME, VERY CLOSELY, WHEN THE ENGINE JUST DIED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE ENGINE DIED WHILE DRIVING THAT FAST, IT USUALLY DIES UNDER 30 MPH. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO START IT BUT IT WOULDN'T START. I HAD TO MAKE A VERY HASTY EXIT TO THE CENTER STRIP AS THERE WAS ANOTHER TRUCK ON MY RIGHT. IT IS VERY "EXCITING" TO PULL ON TO THE GRASS AT (BY THIS TIME) AROUND 55 WITH A HUGE TRUCK TAKING ALL OF THE VIEW IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. *NLM
IGNITION SWITCH WON'T WORK, KEY WON'T TURN, HAD TO REPLACE. *JB
OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS THE ENGINE HAS BEEN "CUTTING" OFF WITH NO NOTICE AND HAS INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AS TIME GOES BY. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST THREE TIMES AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE TOW SERVICE THE NEXT TIME IT STALLS AND NOT TO RESTART THE CAR. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN IN CITY TRAFFIC AND I TOLD THEM I WAS NOT GOING TO BLOCK RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND RISK BEING REARENDED TO WHICH I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I CALLED THE FORD 800 NUMBER TWICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR DEALERS AND IF THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO WHEN I ASKED THE FORD "TALKING HEAD" IF FORD WAS GOING TO PAY FOR MY FUNERAL WHEN THE CALL STALLED ON AN INTERSTATE EXIT RAMP AND WAS REARENDED BY A MAC TRUCK I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY. A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FORWARDED TO ME. TO MY SURPRISE AND CONTRARY TO THE IMPRESSION I RECEIVED FROM THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THE FORD 800 NUMBER THIS STALLING PROBLEM WAS NOT UNKNOWN AND COULD BE DANGEROUS. BELOW IS LISTED THE LATEST CASES OF STALLING. *NLM
IGNITION CYLINDER LOCKED UP, CAR TOWED TO DEALER. THEY DRILLED IT OUT AND REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. PROBLEM RECURRED AFTER 18 MONTHS AND 12000 MILES. OUT OF POCKET $606 PLUS THE TOW. CAR HAS ONLY 25000 MILES, BUT IS 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. SHOULD BE RECALLED! *JB
