WHEN THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES THEY LOCKED WHICH RESULTED IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *NLM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING OVER 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR MORE TIMES FOR THE NOISE. ON DECEMBER 7, 2007, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND TOWED TO A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V303000 (WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/ BOLTS). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

BOTH FRONT SEATS COMPLETELY COLLAPSED BACKWARDS WHEN VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM REAR. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER WAS PUSHED INTO AN INTERSECTION, HAD NO CONTROL OVER STEERING WHEEL, 2 PEOPLE WERE INJURED IN ACCIDENT. *JB
IGNITION SWITCH IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AT TIMES CONSUMER IS NOT ABLE TO PUT KEY INTO IGNITION, OTHER TIMES VEHICLE WILL NOT START OR ABLE TO PUT OUT OF GEAR. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

WHILE PARKING THE CAR AFTER A HIGHWAY DRIVE, THE ENGINE REVVED OUT OF CONTROL AND HAD TO FORCEFULLY APPLY BRAKES. MANAGED TO DRIVE TO WORK, FOUR MILES, THE NEXT MORNING BUT TRANSMISSION DIED AS I PULLED INTO PARKING LOT. COULD NOT REVERSE AND WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 35 MILES PER HOUR WITH MUCH BUCKING LIKE MY BREAKS WERE BEING APPLIED. HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALERS LOT. *AK
VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING 55 TO 60 MPH AND HIT CENTER CONCRETE DIVIDER TWICE. *AK
THE IGNITION HOUSING LOCKED UP AND AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED. THE FRONT AXLES ON THE RIGHT SIDE FELL OFF. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THEM. THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS FELL OFF. THE REAR END SLID WHILE DRIVING ON A WET SURFACE. *MR CB *NLM
REAR TIRES HAD "CUPPING" WEAR AROUND THE TREAD. FORD DEALER SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I DID NOT ROTATE THE TIRES (FRONT TIRES ARE OK). FIRESTONE DEALER USED ALIGNMENT INSTRUMENTS THAT SHOWED THE REAR WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. FIRESTONE, AS DO I, BELIEVE THE CAR WAS NOT PROPERLY ALIGNED COMING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. FIRESTONE SAID THAT THEY HAD SEEN MANY FOCUS MODELS WITH PREMATURE REAR TIRE WEAR PROBLEMS.*AK (TIRESIZE: P195/60TR1)
OWNER NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDERNEATH VEHICLE AFTER PARKING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. GAS TANK WAS LEAKING. FUEL HAD LEAKED ALL OVER THE EXHAUST PIPE, AND OTHER AREAS UNDERNEATH. *AK THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THREE TIMES. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND REPLACED FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM ,THE ENTIRE GAS TANK AND FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. *YH
WHEN CONSUMER WENT TO HAVE HER 30,000 MAINTENANCE SERVICE PERFORMED, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT NEW TIRES WERE NEEDED IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE WOBBLING NOSIE THAT WAS FELT AND HEARD IN THE REAR WHEEL, CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT NEW TIRES ARE POSSIBLY NEEDED DUE TO A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE REAR AXLE, SECONDLY WHEN CONSUMER BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR TIRE ROTATION SHE COULD NEVER GET DOCUMENTATION STATING THAT THE WORK WAS PERFORMED, CONSUMER NOW HAS DOUBTS THAT THE TIRE ROTATION WAS EVER DONE.*JB
RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER OCTOBER 2000, RELATED TO THE INSUFFICIENT WHEEL BEARING CLAMP LOAD. THIS WOULD ALLOW THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AND DRUM ASSEMBLY TO SEPERATE FROM THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO SEPERATION A LOUD GRINDING NOICE OR CLUCKING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THE REAR WHEEL WOBBLING. SOME KIND OF DEFECT ON THE WHEEL BEARING BUT ON THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL.
STILL IN MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, BUT CONTINUES TO LEAK, NO FIX FOR IT. *AK
AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING OVER A DIRT ROAD AT 5-10MPH, CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD AND PLASTIC HEADLINER TO BREAK. VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY DEALER, THERE WERE TWO INJURIES. *JG *AK
ONGOING PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE COMMENCING TO WOBBLE WHEN IT REACHES 50 MPH OR MORE. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND THE PROBELM STILL REOCCURRING. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE SHIFTS IMPROPERLY. CONSUMER HAS BEEN IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ONCE WHEN COMING OFF A RAMP AND DOWN SHIFTING, GEARS WOULD NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY. VEHICLE WON'T GO INTO GEAR. DEFECTIVE BRAKE ROTORS. DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED.*AK CONSUMER ALSO STATES THE WINDHSILED WIPERS ARE INOPERATIVE, THE STRIPING ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOOSE, ALSO RADIO BUTTONS WERE STUCK,DRIVERS DOORLOCK DOES NOT UNLOCK ALL THE TIME WITH REMOTE KEY.*JG
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL RIGHT SIDE BUMPER ACCIDENT. HIT REAR BUMPER OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH OR LESS. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, AND DRIVER SUSTAINED 3RD DEGREE BURNS ON RIGHT HAND; DEALER/ MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
DT: CONSUMER STATES THAT STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP, WHICH CAUSES THE KEY NOT TO TURN IN THE IGNITION. THE CONSUMER HAS TO WORK WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET KEY TO TURN. CONSUMER HAS TAKEN VEHICLE TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT VEHICLE HAS AN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM, AND THAT IS WHY IT IS HAVING STEERING PROBLEMS. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH VEHICLE STALLED OUT AND LOST CONTROL, CAUSING IT HIT A CURB. DAMAGED RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AND SUSPENSION. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER.*AK
DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK SWITCH BROKE. LOCKS ARE AUTOMATIC AND LOCK WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED. DRIVER'S DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AFTER VEHICLE HAS STOPPED. WOULD EXIT FROM PASSENGER SIDE. OTHER THREE DOORS WOULD FAIL TO LOCK WHEN DRIVER'S DOOR AUTOMATICALLY LOCKS. HAD NOT TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP.*AK
VEHICLE CONSTANTLY STALLS. SOMETIMES SHE CANNOT TAKE KEY OUT OF IGNITION. THEN, SOMETIMES CANNOT PUT KEY IN IGNITION. ALSO, FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN CHANGED TWICE. WHEN ACCELERATING VEHICLE BEGINS TO VIBRATE.*AK
WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR LEAKS. ALSO, CAN NOT FILL RESERVOIR BECAUSE FLUID SLOSHES OUT ONTO ENGINE AND OTHER COMPARTMENTS, CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER URGED NOT TO FILL RESERVOIR UP TO WHERE IT COULD BE SEEN. HAD TO FILL IT ACCORDINGLY, THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW. *AK *YD
WAS DRIVING 50MPH WHEN VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. HAD MANAGED TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO MECHANIC. WAS INFORMED FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACING. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE.*AK

TIRES ON VEHICLE IS WEARING DOWN. REAR WHEEL BEARING WENT BAD AND HAD TO REPLACE THEM. TIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED NEVER HEARD OF PROBLEM BEFORE.*AK
I WORK FOR A GOODYEAR CO. AND EVERYTIME THERE IS A PROBLEM I HAVE ONE OF OUR TECHS. CHECK IT OUT FOR ME. FIRST IT WAS THE BRAKES I WAS TAKING MY CHILDREN TO THE MOVIES,AS I WAS TURNING INTO THE PARKING SPACE I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE.THE NEXT DAY AT WORK I HAVE AUTO TECH. INSPECT MY BRAKES I HAD LESS THAN 10% LEFT ALL AROUND AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE CRACKED! MY CHILDREN AND I COULD HAVE DIED! I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO MARINA FORD THEY REPLACED FRONT ROTORS,PADS AND REAR SHOES. THREE WEEKS LATER PADS WERE DOWN TO 10% I DID NOT BOTHER GOING BACK TO THE DEALER. OUR TECH. AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT REPLACED MY BRAKES WITH GOOD QUALITY PADS AND SHOES. I HAD TH ISIDE PANEL REPLACED,THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR REPLACED AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING REPLACED! NOW MY LEFT FRONT TIE-ROD IS BENT,MY CAR SHUTS OFF WHEN THE GAS IS AT THE 3/4 MARK AND WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS,THE EMISSION LIGHTS UP AND THE CAR STOPS! THIS IS A PROBLEM CAR THE FORD FOCUS. I FOUND A WEB SITE AND THER IS OVER A THOUSAND CONSUMERS WHO ARE NOT PLEASED WITH THEIR FOCUS TOO!
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAIN ROAD, WHEN A CAR SUDDENLY SWERVED IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 25-28MPH, YET THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP, THOUGH I PRESSED DOWN ON THEM. LUCKILY, THE DRIVER WHO HAD SWERVED IN FRONT OF ME, NOTICED THAT I WAS UNABLE TO STOP, SO SHE SPED UP CONSIDERABLY. IF IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR THAT, I WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY CRASHED INTO HER. I HAVE REPORTED THIS BRAKE PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY TELL ME THAT THEIR "ALL POINTS CHECK" INDICATES THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY. TWO WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAR, IT BEGAN MAKING EXTREMELY LOUD SQUEAKING NOISES WHEN THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED. YET, NO ONE WANTS TO HELP ME. I TOLD THEM THAT I WANTED ANOTHER CAR, BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I'D HAVE TO PAY $3,000 TO BREAK MY LEASE. I EXPLAINED THAT IT IS NOT FOR LUXURY REASONS THAT I WANT MY VEHICLE REPLACED, BUT FOR SAFETY REASONS. THEY STILL CONTINUE TO BULLY ME AROUND, BECAUSE I'M A YOUNG, SINGLE FEMALE. THOUGH THIS CAR HAS SO MANY PROBLEMS, I SOMETIMES CHOOSE TO DISREGARD THEM, BECAUSE I WOULD PREFER TO AVOID ANY INTERACTION WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE SO MANIPULATIVE AND HEARTLESS. PLEASE DOCUMENT THIS, AS I HAVE COMPLAINED MANY TIMES, TO NO AVAIL. THANK YOU.*AK
DT: 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE IGNITION KEEPS LOCKING UP ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED THEY FIXED IT, BUT IT CONTINUALLY HAPPENED. THIS HAPPENS BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, THE LAST TIME IT WOULDN'T RELEASE THE KEY. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY ARE REPLACING THE SWITCH, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED THERE WAS METAL IN THE FLOOR. *JB

WHILE DRIVING AT 25-35 MPH IN THE RAIN CONSUMER LOST CONTROL AND VEHICLE RAN INTO A GUARDRAIL, HITTING RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
CORRECTED COPY. MAJOR ASSEMBLY LISTED WRONG IN ORGINIAL REPORT. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
BOTH ORIGINAL (AROUND 20,000 MILES) AND REPLACEMENT (AT 44402 MILES) R/R WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. BOTH WERE NOTED DUE TO GRINDING NOISE NOTED WHILE DRIVING BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY ROADS. GRINDING NOISE WOULD COME AND GO IN CURVES. ORGINIAL WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE REPLACEMENT WAS REPLACED UNDER DEALER PARTICIPATION(?) FOR A TOTAL CHARGE OF $26.00. MASTEL FORD PERSONNEL WERE VERY HELPFUL DURING BOTH INCIDENTS. I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE CURRENT RECALL (11/01) CONCERNING WHEEL BEARNING CORROSION.*AK
SEAT BELT/SHOULDER RESTRAINT FAILED TO RESTRAIN FRONT SEAT PASSENGER IN COLLISION. AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER'S SEAT RESTRAINT FAILED TO HOLD PASSENGER IN SEAT. PASSENGER HIT THE WINDSHIELD.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 TO 30 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN TURN WAS TO WIDE, AND RIGHT SIDE HIT CURVE, AND LEFT SIDE OF HIT A TREE. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.*AK

WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED BY FORD ONCE FOR STRESS CRACK, THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE SECOND TIME ALSO STRESS CRACK. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS IN WARM WEATHER AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER HAS DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE WAS THE FUEL PUMP RESTRICTING THE FUEL FLOW. FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH IT WOULD SUDDENLY DIE OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WOULD LOSE ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP EACH TIME AND HAD SPEEDOMETER REPAIRED/ WIRING HARNESS REPLACED, AND BRAIN BOX OF COMPUTER REPAIRED. AFTER EACH REPAIR PROBLEM WOULD REAPPEAR. MANUFACTURER IS BUYING BACK VEHICLE. *AK
CONSUMER HEARD A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT TIRE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED WHEEL BEARING. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
ON AUG 31, 2001 AT APPROXAMETLY 1:40PM, WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK MY SPEEDOMETER, AND TACHOMETER TOPPED OUT. AND ALL DASH ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS BEGAN FLASHING. MY CAR BEGAN EXCELERATING AND STOPPING ON ITS OWN, AND I IMEDEIATELY NOTICED SMOKE POURING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND FROM THE VENTS. I PULLED INTO PARKING LOT AT WORK, I POPED THE HOOD AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, BECUASE THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM THE BATTERY AREA. THE FIRE DEPR'T CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (PURVIS FORD, FREDERICKSBURG VA). I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR 28 DAYS AND HAVE NOT PAID A PAYMENT AS YET WHEN THIS OCCURED. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHILE CAR WAS STOPPED - THE CAR IN FRONT WAS BUMPED BUT I'M SURE IT WAS AFTER THE AIRBAGS WENT OFF. WHILE THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT I BUMPED THEM FIRST I BARELY BUMPED THEM - I NEVER LET MY CLUTCH OUT OR GAVE THE CAR GAS - NEITHER CAR SHOWED ANY DAMAGE, OTHER THAN OURS WHICH SHOWS ONLY AIRBAG DAMAGE. THE POLICE WERE CALLED - THE OFFICER NOTED THAT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE AIRBAGS. OUR QUESTION IS WHY DID THEY GO OFF? OTHER THEN BEING SCARED AND STUNNED FOR A FEW MOMENTS, MY LEFT ARM SUFFERED, BRUISES AND BURNS FROM THE AIRBAG. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT A DEALERSHIP IN NJ FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS - THEY STATE IT CANNOT BE TOUCHED UNTIL THE LEGAL DEPT OF FORD CONTACTS US . *AK
AT 65 TO 70 MPH WHEN APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE SHAKES AND MAKES A GRINDING NOISE UPON SLOWING DOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THERE IS A VERY BAD SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN BRAKING, AND WHEN CONSUMER LETS OFF THE BRAKE THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE. DRIVER STATES MORE THAN TWICE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.
