THE FIRST TIME I COULDN'T GET THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION. THEN AFTER 30 MINUTES I GOT IT TO GO IN. THEN WHEN I PARKED, I COULDN'T GET THE KEY OUT. SO I DROVE HOME. HAD TO CALL A LOCKSMITH TO COME DRILL OUT THE CYLINDER AND PUT A NEW ONE IN--$220. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. EVEN THOUGH NO ONE WAS HARMED BY THIS DEFECT ON MY 2000 FORD FOCUS WITH 51,000 MILES ON IT, I WAS VERY INCONVENIENT FOR ME. WHAT IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING ALONE AT NIGHT AWAY FROM THE CITY AND LOCKSMITHS AND MY CAR WOULDN'T START BECAUSE THE KEY WOULDN'T TURN OR GO IN? I WOULD BE STRANDED. THAT TO ME IS A SAFETY ISSUE. A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF FOCUS OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND FORD HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *JB
I WAS GETTING IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS THIS MORNING TO GO TO WORK; I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. I FIDDLED WITH IN FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO NO AVAIL. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO CALL OFF OF WORK. THAT ALONE IS A LOSE OF MONEY. I HAVE NOT YET CALLED FORD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT ACCORDING TO OTHER REPORTS, IT CAN COST ANYWHERE FROM$100- $400 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I JUST THANK GOD THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN TO ME IN A DANGEROUS AREA. I COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS AREA. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE KEY NOT TURNING BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, HOWEVER, I COULD ALWAYS EVENTUALLY TURN THE KEY, AFTER FIDDLING WITH IT FOR A FEW MINUTES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE IGNITION, IT WOULD NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 76,000.
2000 FORD FOCUS IGNITION LOCK PROBLEM. I HAVE REPLACE THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER IN MY YEAR 2000 FORD FOUCS, TWICE. EACH TIME I WAS STRANDED BECAUSE THE LOCK JAMMED AND I COULD NOT START THE CAR. MY MAIN COMPLAINT IS THAT APPARENTLY NO BETTER PART IS AVAILABLE AND I AM FORCED TO INSTALL ANOTHER ONE OF THESE DEFECTIVE LOCKS JUST TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD. BEING STRANDED DOUBLE PARKED IN NEW YORK CITY, OR OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE ON THE WEEKEND IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I DON'T WANT MONEY COMPENSATION - I WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED, I WILL GLADLY PAY FOR AN NEW LOCK THAT WILL NOT FAIL IN THIS WAY AGAIN. ON EVERY OTHER CAR I OWNED THE IGNITION LOCK OUT LASTED THE ENGINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK ON 8/20/07 I NOTICED THE CAR BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. THE CAR HAS CRUISE CONTROL BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED EVEN AFTER I TURNED OFF THE SPEED CONTROL FUNCTION. GIVEN THE EXCESSIVE RATE OF SPEED THE CAR HAD ACCELERATED TO I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN BUT ONCE I RELEASED THE BRAKE IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UPWARDS OF 75-80 MPH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. WHEN THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY TWO MINUTES LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SMELLED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HE RAISED THE HOOD AND NOTICED FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE WEATHER WAS DRY AND APPROXIMATELY 100 DEGREES AT THE TIME. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 140,000.
I JUST BOUGHT A 2000 FORD FOCUS AND THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE WOMAN HAD THE TUMBLER REPLACED LAST YEAR (08/06). WILL HAVE TO TAKE TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT FIXED. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A PERSISTANT PROBLEM WITH 2000 FORD FOCUS CARS. *TR
FAILED IGNITION CYLINDER LOCK. UPON ENTRY INTO VEHICLE I PROCEEDED TO ATTEMPT TO START VEHICLE. KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN IGNITION. TRIED MOVING STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY WHICH SOMETIMES ALLOWS IGNITION TO TURN. HOWEVER THIS TIME, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND KEY WOULD STILL NOT TURN. SPENT ABOUT 30 MINUTES TRYING TO GET KEY TO TURN. STRANDED, HAD TO CALL FOR TRANSPORTATION AND TOWING. CYLINDER LOCK REPLACED BY DEALER. EXPENSIVE REPAIR. NO DISCOUNT. KNOWN ISSUE WITH FOCUS VEHICLES WIDELY REPORTED WITHIN THE INTERNET COMMUNITY. *JB
CAR WOULD START STALLING AT LIGHTS OR STOP SIGN. THEN STARTED SHAKING AND JUMPING AT LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. WOULD HAVE TO PUT IN NEUTRAL WHICH DID NOT HELP MUCH. WHILE DRIVING WOULD RPM HIGH WOULD HAVE TO TAKE FOOT OF GAS SO IT WOULD CHANGE GEARS, AT THE SAME TIME NO POWER. AT 1/4 TANK WHILE DRIVING JUST STALLS/WAIT & START AGAIN. *JB
OUR 2000 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON IGNITION LOCK "FROZE" SO THAT WE COULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR. WHEN I SPOKE WITH A LOCKSMITH AND SAID THE WORDS "2000 FORD FOCUS" HE SAID "DON'T TELL ME, THE IGNITION LOCK WON'T TURN, WILL IT." HE INDICATED THAT HE ALONE IS CALLED OUT ON ONE OR TWO FORD FOCUS IGNITION LOCK FAILURES EVERY WEEK. WHILE THIS WAS AN INCIDENT IN WHICH NOBODY WAS INJURED AND NO PROPERTY DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE LOCK HAVING TO BE DESTROYED AS PART OF THE REPAIR BY BEING DRILLED OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE LOCKSMITH CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE CALL AND REPAIR WAS $186.81. WE SPENT TWO AND A HALF HOURS STUCK IN A SHOPPING CENTER MALL WAITING FOR THE REPAIR. IN MY OPINION SINCE MANY OF THESE IGNITION LOCKS HAVE FAILED BASED ON A NUMBER OF INTERNET SITES CARRYING REPORTS OF FAILURES SIMILAR TO OURS, IT IS MY OPINION THAT FORD SHOULD ORDER A RECALL IN ORDER TO REPLACE SUB-STANDARD IGNITION LOCKS, AND SHOULD REIMBURSE OWNERS SUCH AS US FOR EXPENSE WE'VE UNDERGONE HAVING THEIR DUB-STANDARD LOCKS REPAIRED OR REPLACED. *TR
AFTER RAIN, WATER PUDDLED ON PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR. CONTACTED FORD DEALER WHO SAID THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY REFERRED US TO A REPAIR MAN WHO SAID HE FIXED SEVERAL HUNDRED CARS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE WAS 4 INCHES OF WATER IN CAR AND THERE IS A FOUL MOLDY SMELL IN CAR. APPARENTLY THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AS I HAVE NOTICED THE SMELL IN CAR PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR
IGNITION IS LOCKED AND WILL NOT TURN TO THE START POSITION ,I TRIED TO WIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE SURE THE STEERING WASN'T LOCKED AND ITS LOCKED TOO. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE NOTICED THICK SMOKE RISING FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE WINDOWS WERE ROLLED UP. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS AND NO FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND TOWED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE HAD BEEN NO PREVIOUS FAILURES. DURING THE VEHICLE INSPECTION, A ROD FAILED AND CREATED A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 69,000.
PROBLEMS WITH INSERTING AND/OR REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION KEY SLOT. I WAS UNABLE TO REINSERT THE KEY TO START THE IGNITION UNTIL I USED POWDER GRAPHITE AND TAPPED THE KEY IN PLACE. ONCE THE KEY WAS IN, IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. I'VE ENDED UP LEAVING THE KEY IN THE KEY SLOT AND USING A SECOND KEY FOB TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS.
KEY WILL NOT INSERT INTO THE IGNITION. REPEATED ATTEMPTS WITH NO SUCCESS. *TR
THE KEY IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS WILL NOT TURN. MY CAR IS USELESS. AFTER MONTHS OF IT BEING DIFFICULT AND HAVING TO USE FORCE IT FINALLY WON'T TURN AT ALL. FORTUNATELY I AM AT HOME AND NOT STRANDED. SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ISN'T A RECALL ISSUE. INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING. SOUNDS LIKE I EITHER PAY A LOCKSMITH $150 OR FORD $400 TO FIX IT. *JB

THE CAR WAS OK WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, WHEN MY WARRANTY WAS UP, THE KEY TOOK A COUPLE OF TURNS BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO TURN FULLY, THIS HAPPENED RARELY. THEN IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT, AND NOW IT DOESN'T TURN AT ALL. MY CAR IS NOW BEING TOWED AND HOPEFULLY THE PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED. IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS COSTS SO MUCH. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES OUT OF MY IGNITION/STEERING. RE: NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 00V-418 - - IN JULY 2007 WE BOUGHT A 2000 FORD FOCUS WAGON AS A 2ND CAR. UPON LOWERING THE BACK SEAT TO LOAD ITEMS, THE SEAT SEPARATED FROM THE HINGE. RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET I LEARNED OF THE ABOVE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN AND CONTACTED FORD. THEY STATE THAT NO RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR MY VEHICLE AND REFUSE ANY FURTHER COMMENT, EVEN THOUGH THE DEFECT IN MY CAR IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. I EVEN REFERRED THEIR "CUSTOMER RELATIONS" OFFICE TO YOUR WEBSITE AS AN "FYI" BUT THEY ADAMANTLY REFUSE TO REPLY WITH ANY MEANINGFUL RESPONSE. ALTHOUGH I INTEND TO HAVE THE DEFICIENCY REPAIRED AT MY OWN EXPENSE, I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH FORDS "STONEWALL" TACTIC AND DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES I REFER THIS MATTER TO YOUR AGENCY IN THE EVENT THAT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO CONFIRM WHETHER, OR NOT, MY VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A RECALL FOR THE PARTICULAR ITEM CITED IN CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00V-418 AND/OR IF FORD IS IN VIOLATION OF THE RECALLS MANDATE. I OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS WITH 31,000 MILES ON IT. TWICE IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS THE IGNITION JAMMED. THE FIRST TIME ON A FREEZING COLD DAY AT A DESERTED URBAN PARKING LOT LATE AT NIGHT AT FEBRUARY 24, 2007. THE SECOND TIME , ON JULY 12, 2007. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONLY THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENS. THE OTHER DOORS FAIL TO OPEN WITH THE KEY OR REMOTE. THE DOORS ALSO FAIL TO OPEN WHEN SHE IS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. SHE STATED THAT SHE IS SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS OLD AND NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR A WEEK. THE PURCHASE DATE AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,000. UPDATED 09/05/07. 8JB
WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING CAN NOT PUT CAR IN PARK OR THE CAR STALLS...THIS STARTING HAPPENING AFTER A HOSE OF SOME TYPE WAS REPLACED AT THE BACK OF THE ENGINE. *TR
BOUGHT USED 2000 FORD FOCUS FOR DAUGHTER ON 6/19/07. WORKED FINE UNTIL ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER (~7/6) WHEN CAR WOULD STALL OUT ON HER FOR NO REASON WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IT. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT FROM WHO TOOK IT TO LOCAL FORD STORE SO THEY COULD LOOK AT IT. THEY CLAIM PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED WITH THEM. TALKED TO 800# FOR FORD AND LADY TELLS ME THAT SERVICE DEPT HAS TO "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WILL FIX THE KNOWN PROBLEM (FUEL DELIVERY MODULE). NOTIFICATION WAS SUPPOSE TO BE SENT TO OWNER. WHEN I TALKED TO PREVIOUS OWNERS, THEY SAID THEY NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATIONS OF RECALLS, ETC FROM FORD. WHEN I SPOKE TO FORD, SHE SAID OWNER INFORMATION IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED WITH THEM...I HAD HER UPDATE WITH MY DAUGHTER'S INFORMATION. TO DATE, 8/2/07, FORD REFUSES TO FIX A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM WITH EARLY FORD FOCUS. *JB

THE 2000 FOCUS HAS HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING. WE PUT THE KEY IN AND IT WONT TURN. WE HAVE BEEN STRANDED MANY TIMES AND THIS IS COSTING US AL OT OF MONEY TO HAVE A LOCK SMITH FIX IT, AS WELLL AS HAVING IT TOWED AND THE HASSLES OF TRYING TO GET HOME WHEN IT HAPPENS IN ANOTHER TOWN(TWICE). THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY FORD- I SEE IT HAPPENS ALOT WITH OTHERS WHO OWN THIS CAR.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. IN JULY OF 2007, THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT CHANGED THE FUSE, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHTS ALSO BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION, FOLLOWED BY THE REAR HATCH. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE A FIRE HAD TAKEN PLACE IN THE WIRING. THE CONTACT IS CURRENTLY AWAITING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,338 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

LEFT WHEEL FELL OFF ON THE FREE WAY AND 2 PASSENGERS WERE INJURED. *TR
THE IGNITION KEY FAILED TO TURN WHEN INSERTED INTO THE STEERING COLUMN. MY SON WAS STRANDED, ALONE WITH NO WAY TO GET HOME EXCEPT FROM MY DRIVING TO GET HIM. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS ONLY FIVE MILES AWAY FROM HOME, BUT HE COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED MUCH FURTHER AWAY AND IN A DANGEROUS LOCATION. *TR
2000 FORD FOCUS-AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD (FAILURE). SYMPTOMS, ROUGH IDLE, STALLING, CAUSES COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM TO MAKE ENGINE RUN LEAN FURTHERING THE PROBLEM. ON THE LOWER SIDE OF THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD IS WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE. THE MATERIAL DISINTEGRATES OVER TIME WHICH ALLOWS EXCESSIVE AIR INTO THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD, CAUSING THE OXYGEN SENSOR TO DETECT TO MUCH OXYGEN AND SENDING THE COMPUTER A SIGNAL TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF FUEL. THE ENGINE SPEED AT IDLE DECREASES TO AROUND 500 RPM AND STALLS. AT HIGHER SPEEDS, THE ENGINE RUNS ROUGH AND HAS SUBSTANTIAL LACK OF POWER AND MISFIRING. DEALER EXAMINED VEHICLE AND TRIED TO DEFRAUD ME BY ENCOURAGING ME TO REPLACE NUMEROUS ITEMS AT THE SAME TIME. INSPECTION COST WAS EXCESSIVE, SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME AND RAISED THE HOOD TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. AN AIR SUCKING SOUND WAS HEARD AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THIS AIR STOP OR VALVE HAD DISINTEGRATED. THE WAY IT WAS DISCOVERED WAS BY FOLLOWING THE SOUND TO THE PART AND TOUCHING IT TO CONFIRM A VACUUM INTO THE ENGINE. WHEN TOUCHED THE PART DISINTEGRATED INTO MY HAND. I PROCEEDED TO TEMPORARILY SEAL THE LEAK WITH DUCT TAPE AND THE IDLE INCREASED TO NORMAL SPEED AND THE VEHICLE QUIT STALLING. THEREAFTER, I WENT TO MY LOCAL KRAGEN AUTO SUPPLY AND PICKED UP A RUBBER HOSE CAP ABOUT 3/8 INCH DIAMETER INTERNALLY. THEN I TOOK THE DUCT TAPE OFF AND FORCED THE RUBBER HOSE CAP OVER THE AIR VALVE WHICH SEALED THE LEAK. SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEM. THE DEALER RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD HAVE COST ME AROUND $1,000.00 IN REPAIRS. THE ACTUAL REPAIR COST ME AROUND 0.35 CENTS. FORDS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PART SHOULD BE ON RECALL BECAUSE IT SHOULD NOT DISINTEGRATE. I CAN UNDERSTAND WEAR AND TEAR AND MECHANICAL FAILURE, HOWEVER I CAN NOT AND WILL NOT ACCEPT PRODUCT DISINTEGRATION AS ACCEPTABLE IN CURRENT AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGY, AND NEITHER SHOULD OUR GOVERNMENTS NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION AND SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. *JB
PARKED IN A PUBLIC PARKING SPACE AND CAME BACK TO RETRIEVE MY CAR. COULD GET THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BUT COULD NOT TURN IT. TURNS OUT THE IGNITION WAS FAULTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED BY FORD. EVERYONE I'VE TALKED TO WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT FORD HAS NOT ADDRESSED IT. THEY CHARGED 400 DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT. *TR
REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED ON MY 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL LITERALLY ALMOST CAME OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE WAS NO ADVANCED WARNING THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. ON MAY 27, 2007, THE STEERING WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE COLUMN WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC. THE PURCHASE DATE AND ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
WE WERE DRIVING OUR CAR (A 2000 FORD FOCUS) AND HAD JUST PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, AS WE SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WE HEARD A POPPING SOUND, BUT NEITHER MY WIFE NOR I COULD DECIDE IF IT WAS THE CAR. ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER MY WIFE WAS GOING SOMEPLACE WITH THE CAR AND WHEN SHE HAD BACKED UP WE HEARD A SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END. UPON INVESTIGATION WE FOUND THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN AND A SHARP POINTED END OF WHAT WAS LEFT WAS POKED OUT INTO THE TIRE, THE TIRE DID NOT BLOW, BUT COULD HAVE IF WE WERE TRAVELING AT ANY SIGNIFICANT SPEED. THE COIL SPRING SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESTRAINED BY A CLAMP AND A CUP SHAPED PLATE, BUT THE PLATE WAS NOT CUP SHAPED AT ALL. THIS SEEMS LIKE A DEFECT AND AN UNSAFE THING THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR. FORD HAS A KNOWN BAD TRACK RECORD WITH SPRINGS, AND THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT SHOULD BE UPGRADED TO A RECALL. FURTHER, OTHER MODELS OF FORD SHOULD BE INSPECTED TO SEE IF THEY ALSO HAVE THIS ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW WITH THE SPRING BASE PLATE. *TR
2000 FORD FOCUS LX, AT FIRST THE KEY WOULD NOT GO INTO IGNITION AND ONCE IN NOW IS STUCK IN IGNITION. THE IGNITION CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED AND ORIGINAL KEY WAS DAMAGED WHEN THE DEALER WAS IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM (ALTHOUGH I'VE FOUND OUT IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM TO FORD) SO EVERYTHING HAD TO BE REPLACED.
OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS, WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE. CALLED MY MECHANIC NEXT MORNING, TOOK IT IN TO BE LOOKED AT, TWO MECHANICS TOOK A QUICK LOOK AND DROVE IT. BOTH CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE SPRING COIL HAD BROKE! MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE VEHICLE WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
IGNITION SWITCH WORE OUT ON 2001 FOCUS, HAPPENED AT ABOUT 75,000 MILES. HAPPENED WHILE FORD MECHANICS WERE ON STRIKE. HAD TO HAVE LOCK SMITH REPAIR. KEPT KEY IN IGNITION AT ALL TIMES WHEN STARTED GETTING HARD TO USE AGAIN. JUST THIS WEEK THE 2000 FOCUS WAGON IGNITION WOULD NOT ALLOW KEY TO GO IN ALL THE WAY. WENT ON LINE TO DETERMINE HOW TO FIX MYSELF, SAW HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME PROBLEM. *AK
I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A PRIVATE PARTY AND I HAD THE VEHICLE , A 2000 FORD FOCUS 4 DOOR SEDAN, FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS AND THE KEY DID NOT WORKING CORRECTLY IN THE CYLINDER. WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE KEY FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD TURN OVER TO START. JUST LAST WEEK ON 06/05/2007 THE CAR NO LONGER STARTED, I COULD NOT GET THE KEY TO TURN TO START. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE IGNITION CYLINDER THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, AND I TALKED TO THE MANAGER AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND HE SAID THIS WAS A COUNTINOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS KIND OF VEHICLE. THIS WA S EASILY COSTING ME $300 THAT I DONT HAVE... THIS PROBLEM NEEDED TO BE RECALLED. BY THE WAY I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO GET IT FIXED. *AK
THE 2000 FORD FOCUS WAS NOT IDLING CORRECTLY. IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WERE GOING TO DIE AFTER DECELERATION. I HAVE HAD THREE MECHANICES LOOK AT IT INCLUDING A FORD DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THEIR WEBSITE REGARDING A VALVE STICKING. IT REQUIREE D REPLACING THE HEAD AT A COST OF $1500-$2500. FORD HAD SINCE REDESIGNED THE ENGINE SO THIS PROBLEM WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN WITH FUTURE MODELS. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK FOR AN INVESTIGATION OR A RECALL. INSTEAD OF FORD FIXING THEIR DESIGNED DEFECT THEY WERE MAKING MONEY OFF THE REPAIRS FOR SOMETHING THE OWNER COULD NOT PREVENT NOR DOES IT MEAN IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. *AK

THE CONTACT WOULD ONLY MAKE TURNS WHEN NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AROUND IN FEAR THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V482000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND WOULD CHARGE $86 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 101,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
THE IGNITION CYLINDER THE 2000 FORD FOCUS LOCKED AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY. IT FIRST HAPPENED WHILE I WAS AT AN ATM AT 11PM AT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE IGNTION FOR ALMOST 30 MINUTES, WHICH PLACED ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TWO WEEKD LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THIS YIME WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT AT ALL, AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE REPAIR COST ME, WITH TOWING WAS $550. I KNEW THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR OTHER FOCUS OWNERS AND FELT FORD SHOULD BE RECALLING THIS PORBLEM.*AK
