THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING LOCKED UP. *JB LEFT REAR WHEEL BEARING AND RIGHT FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE WAS NOT HONORED UNDER RECALL. *TT
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE HESITATED/STALLED. THIS WAS CAUSED BY A FUEL SYSTEM SENSOR. *AK *JB
I BOUGHT MY FOCUS USED, IT HAD 38,000 MILES, ON A TRIP THE ENGINE BEGAN TO ACT UP. IT WAS REVVING ALL THE WAY UP BUT WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 40 MPH. AFTER CALLING A TOW TRUCK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE DEALERSHIP THAT I TOOK IT TO HAD IT FOR OVER A WEEK AND HAD DIFFICULTY LOCATING THE PROBLEM. IT STARTED AND DROVE JUST FINE FOR THEM. I HAD THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE FUEL SYSTEM FLUSHED. WHILE IT WAS THERE THEY PERFORMED RECALL WORK ON MY BATTERY CABLE ROUTING, AND MY ONE OF MY ENGINE CONTROL ARM BOLTS. EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN I HAD A TIRE THROW TREAD, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. 1 WEEK LATER IT WAS BACK TO GET THE OTHER TIRE REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD A BUBBLE IN IT, AFTER LEARNING THAT I GOT THE REST OF THE TIRES REPLACED. A FEW WEEKS AGO MY BRAKES STARTED SQUELING, I HAD THE PADS CHECKED THEY WERE FINE, AFTER THEY KEPT MAKING NOISE I INSISTED THAT THEY WERE CHANGED. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 100 MILES I STARTED HEARING A SPINNING THUMP. THAT BECAME VERY LOUD. BACK INTO THE SHOP, THEY REPLACED A BRAKE CALIPER, AND ALSO I HAD TO GET YET ANOTHER FUEL FILTER, IT WAS BEGINING TO BECOME RESTRICTED, AGAIN. THE BRAKE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN DOING IT FOR A WHILE SINCE I DID NOT HAVE A FORD DEALERSHIP DO IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY, AND I AM SURE THAT SOMETHING ELSE WILL GO WRONG. YAY!
MY WARRANTY WAS 36,000 WHICH IS UP. FIXING THE BRAKES WAS NO PROBLEM BUT I DONT FEEL MY WHEEL BEARINGS NEED REPLACED THIS QUICKLY WITHOUT HAVING SOME KIND IF DEFAULT IN THEM FROM THE START. MY CAR IS MAKING THIS LOUD, ROARING SOUND, WHICH IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. I'M WRITING TO SEE IF THERE'S ANYTHING THE HEADQUARTERS OF FORD CAN DO. THERE ARE RECALLS ON 2001 FORD FOCUSES BUT JUST SO HAPPEN NOT ON MY CAR AND WHY IS THAT WHEN IM HAVING COMPLICATIONS WITH IT. IT SOUNDS LIKE A TRACTOR AND IVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 16 MONTHS. I WAS A STUDENT IN DALLAS AND THAT WAS THE ONLY TRAVELING I DID. I'M NOT HARD ON VEHICLES AT ALL. THE WHEEL BEARING ARE GONE BAD ON MY CAR AND I HOPE THERE'S SOMETHING SOMEONE CAN DO. ITS THE FRONT ONES. BY THE WAY IT DOESN'T SEEM AS IF MY TRANSMISSION IS CHANGING THE CORRECT # OF GEARS.
IN NOVEMBER OF 2002, I NOTICED A SQUEAL UNDER THE HOOD OF MY 2001 FOCUS. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN, THEY CLAIMED THEY HEARD NO SOUND. I THEN TOLD THE MECHANIC YOU MUST ACTUALLY STEP OUT OF THE CAR TO HEAR THE NOISE.; HE DID HEAR THE NOISE AND FORD HAD TO REPLACE THE BELT TENSIONER AND SERPENTINE BELT. I BEGAN NOTICING THAT MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD FUNCTION AT WILL. THE LEFT HEADLAMP AND TURN SIGNAL WAS ALSO MALFUNCTIONING. I COULD NOT GET THE WIPERS TO TURN OFF AT TIMES. I WOULD TURN THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, AND THE WIPERS WOULD TURN OFF. THIS WOULD ALSO WORK AT TIMES WHEN THE WIPERS WOULD NOT TURN ON, BUT NOT ALWAYS. I NEVER NOTICED AN ABSOLUTE CONSISTENCY AS TO WHAT WOULD GET THE WIPERS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THEY ALSO WOULD NOT FUNCTION AT THE CORRECT SPEED. THEY WOULD GO FAST WHEN I WANTED THEM TO GO SLOW AND VICE-VERSA. I HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN TWICE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED. THEY REPLACED THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH BOTH TIMES. A WEEK FOLLOWING THE SECOND VISIT, I NOTICED THEY WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE THIRD TIME. IN BETWEEN THE TIME I SCHEDULED THE APPOINTMENT AND THE ACTUAL DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT, I NOTICED THE GAS LIGHT HAD COME ON WHEN I STILL HAD ABOUT 36 MILES WORTH OF GAS LEFT IN MY CAR. I NOTICED THE LIGHT WAS ON FOR A BIT AND THEN IT WENT OFF. SO, I TOLD THEM ABOUT THAT PROBLEM AS WELL WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND SENDING UNIT ASSEMBLY. ALSO THEY REPLACED WHATEVER WIRES WERE CAUSING THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH TO GO OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND MADE A STOP AT A CONVENIENCE STORE. WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR, IT WOULD NOT START. NOT A SOUND OR ANYTHING. THE CAR WAS TOTALLY DEAD. I CALLED FORD TO HAVE THEM TOW THE CAR. THIS TIME, THEY CLAIMED THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH SAFETY START SWITCH, WHICH THEY DID. MY BREAKS ALSO SQUEAK CONSTANTLY. THEY ADJUSTED THE BREAKS AND CLEAN THEM UP. THEY CLAIM THE SQUEAKING BREAKS ARE NORMAL. DO NOT BUY A FORD.
WHEN TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO 3RD GEAR IT FREEWHEELS AND OR WILL NOT PULL
I BOUGHT A 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE THROTTLE WAS STICKING AND WAS HARD TO TAKE OFF AND THEN IT WOULD LURCH FORWARD ALL OF A SUDDEN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY OILED THE CABLE AND IT WORKED FOR A FEW HOURS AND GOT STIFF AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THAT PROBLEM WAS FIXED. NOW WHEN I DRIVE IT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN IT DIES. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. I FEEL THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. *NLM
I HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP FIVE TIMES FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE FOURTH TIME THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I GOT IT HOME THE FLUID WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE. SO I TOOK IT BACK THE MECHANIC, AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. *JB
WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, THE LEFT AXLE SNAPPED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *JB
OUR CAR CURRENTLY HAS 40,000 AND THE FUEL PUMP HAS GONE OUT. THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WAS THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT REPORTING THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL AND AT TIMES THE CAR WOULD NOT GO FORWARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED. MY WIFE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE.*JB
MY CAR HAS A ELETRICAL OR COMPUTER PROBLEM WHICH AL PACKER FORD CANNOT SEEM TO FIX. DIFFICULTY TURNING KEY IN IGNITION (ILC). *NLM
I AM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS CONSISTENT WITH EA02-022 CONCERNING VEHICLE STALLING AT ANY SPEED. ALTHOUGH THE CAR HAS NOT YET COMPLETELY STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING, IT HAS FELT AS THOUGH IT MAY DO SO AT ANY TIME. NUMEROUS REPAIR ATTEMPTS INCLUDING REPLACEMENT OF THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND FUEL PUMP HAVE NOT REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. AS FORD RECOGNIZES THAT THIS IS A PROGRESSIVE PROBLEM, I HAVE TO WORRY EVERY TIME THAT I DRIVE THE VEHICLE THAT THIS WILL BE THE TIME WHEN I COMPLETELY LOSE POWER.
THRILLED W/FORD'S SEMI-SORT-OF RECALL ON THEIR FOCUS FUEL PUMPS DUE TO "PROGRESSIVE CONTAMINATION." HAD MINE REPLACED AT 17,500 MILES, AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF SUPPOSED COMTAMINATED GAS. THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME I AM NOT ELEGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE OF CONTAMINATED GAS. FORD TELLS ME THAT POOR DESIGN IS CAUSING FILTER/PUMP TO BECOME CLOGGED. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IS CLOGGING THE LATTER IF NOT FOR "ALLEGED" CONTAMINANTS IN THE GAS?
FRONT BREAKS SQUEAKED. BROUGHT TO DEALER. PUT IN FRONT BRAKES AND PADS. STILL SQUEAKED. BACK TO DEALER. TOLD ME NOW I NEEDED REAR BRAKE SHOES AND THE DRUM NEEDS TO BE SANDED. CAR IS DRIVEN NORMALLY AND ONLY HAS 14,000 MILES ON IT. *JB
THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*JB *TS
ENGINE STARTS TO STALL WITH 1/4 TO 1/2 TANK OF FUEL WHEN GOING ROUND RIGHT HAND BENDS (SUCH AS FREEWAY RAMPS). CAN EVEN OCCUR AT JUNCTIONS (RIGHT TURNS). OCCURS EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL UNLESS ONE DRIVES VERY SLOWLY - LESS THAN 30 MPH. HAVE SPOKEN TO DEALERS AND READ MANY REPORTS OF THIS FAILURE AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE SYMPTOMS. *NLM
TREAD SEPARATION ON FIRESTONE FIREHAWK GTA P205-50R16 TIRE. I WAS TOLD BY FIRESTONE DEALER # 591289 (JOHNSTOWN, PA) THAT THE TIRE WAS "CUT" ON THE SIDEWALL DUE TO ABUSE. THIS TREAD SEPARATION IS CLEARLY DUE TO A DEFECT AS IF IT WERE A "RE-CAP" IN MY OPINION. I ALSO HAD THE TIRES LOOKED OVER BY AN INDEPENDENT TIRE RETAILER WHO CONCURRED WITH MY SUSPICIONS. *JB

FRONT BRAKES AND ROTOR WITH PREMATURE WEAR
AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED, HOWEVER CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILALBE, AND THE BEARINGS WOULD ONLY BE INSPECTED AND NOT REPLACED.(NHTSA CAMPAIGN #01I017000).*JB

THE BATTERY CABLES WERE MISROUTED, WHICH CAUSED THE BATTERY TO BE INOPERATIVE.*JB
THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE WHEEL BEARINGS, HOWEVER THE DEALER STATED THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*JB
THE DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR RECALL REGARDING THE BATTERY CABLE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING FROM A PARKING LOT DOORS LOCKED. DOORS WERE INOPERATIVE, EXCEPT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. ALSO, HORN STARTED TO BLOW AND THE DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP IT. *AK
I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR A PROBLEM WHICH IS NOW A RECALL. HOW DO I KNOW IF I RECEIVE ALL RECALLS. IS IT MY RESPONSIBILITY OR FORDS TO KEEP ME INFORMED. PH
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS FOR THIS CAR. IN REGARDS TO STEERING, WHEEL, TIRE AS WELL THE SUSPENSION. AS THE CAR WAS UNDER 18000 MILE I HAD SO MUCH PROBLEM WITH MENTIONED ABOVE PROBLEMS. I COULD NOT CONTROL MY CAR WHEN IT RAINED OR WHEN EVER THE ROAD WAS NOT IN PERFECT SHAPE.
FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS ARE WORN AND MUST BE REPLACED AFTER 15,000 MILES. FORD DEALER CLAIMS THE PREMATURE WEAR IS NORMAL AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN GENTLY IN A COMBINATION OF CITY AND OPEN ROAD DRIVING, WITHOUT ANY UNUSUAL BRAKING REQUIREMENTS. WE LIVE NEAR SOME MOUNTAINS, BUT THIS VEHICLE IS ALMOST NEVER DRIVEN IN THE MOUNTAINS. THERE HAVE BEEN NO UNUSUAL EVENTS THAT MIGHT HAVE DAMAGED THE BRAKES. THEREFORE THE PAD AND/OR ROTOR ARE DEFECTIVE IN DESIGN OR MANUFACTURER. THERE IS NO WAY THAT TOTAL WEAR OF THE BRAKES SHOULD OCCUR IN ONLY 15,000 MILES OF NORMAL DRIVING.*JB
I JUST BOUGHT VEHICLE USED IN NOVEMBER WITH 13K ON IT. THE TRUNK LATCH WAS THE FIRST THING THAT WASN'T WORKING RIGHT. IT WOUDN'T WORK UNLESS I SHUT IT REALLY HARD. THE SPLIT REAR SEAT DOESN'T LATCH EITHER. NOW AFTER15K MILES AND THREE MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND I KEEP LOOSING BRAKE FLUID. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND A TECH FOUND THAT THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING FLUID. I WONDER IF THAT IS WHY MY CLUTCH IS SLIPPING?

THE STEERING WHEEL WANDERED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT.*JB
I HAD JUST FINISHED FUELING UP THE CAR AND PULLED AWAY FROM THE PUMP WHEN THE CAR DIED IN THE GAS STATIONS ENTRANCE. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHO STATED THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CAR HAD 53,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME AND FORD ONLY AGREED TO PAY FOR 1/2 THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER COME CLOSE TO GETTING THE GAS MILEAGE THAT FORD SAYS IT SHOULD. MY V6 HONDA ACCORD GETS BETTER GAS MILEAGE THAN THIS 4 CYLINDER FOCUS? *LA
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE HAS A SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEEL. PLEASE FURNISH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. PH
I WAS TAKING THE SOUTH I-75 EXIT RAMP TO EAST M-59 AND EXPERIENCED A STALL OUT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAMP - WHERE YOU MERGE WITH TRAFFIC GOING 65 MPH. THIS IS A WIDE, SWEEPING RIGHT HAND TURN. I DRIVE THE ROUTE OFTEN, AND HAD EXPERIENCED HESITITATION ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS, BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE CAR STALLED. THE TANK WAS 1/4 FULL. AFTER ROLLING TO A STOP UNDER THE I-75 OVERPASS BRIDGE, I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND IT STARTED. I PROCEEDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENCE - COUNTING MY BLESSINGS I HAD NOT BEEN REAR-ENDED. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC, AND HE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE TANK. HE SHOWED ME HOW THE FILTER WAS DESIGNED AND BECAME EASILY CLOGGED. HE ALSO SAID THAT FORD HAD OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITUATION, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT THAT MUST BE CORRECTED, OR I WILL BE RELACING THE FUEL PUMP IN ANOTHER 30K OR SO MILES. IT'S NOT ONLY THE $300, BUT THE THOUGHT OF BEING REAR-ENDED THAT SHOULD CONCERN FORD MOTOR COMPANY, AS WELL AS THE AUTHORITIES.
I HAVE A RECALL ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS. MY HUSBAND IS IN THE MILITARY AND WE ARE CURRENTLY LIVING IN LONDON, ENGLAND. WE HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO GET THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF, BUT NO ONE WILL HELP US. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER IN THE UK, AND THEY TOLD US THAT THEY WILL FIX THE RECALL, BUT THEY CANNOT ORDER THE PART BECAUSE IT IS AN AMERICAN CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT 15 TIMES, AND EACH TIME HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. I HAVE ABOUT 6 DIFFERENT PHONE NUMBERS THAT THEY HAVE GIVEN ME TO TRY AND EACH TIME, THE PERSON THAT I TALK TO SAYS THAT THEY CANNOT HELP ME. THE RECALL IS FOR REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND PINCH BOLT. I HAVE A 16-MONTH-OLD SON THAT HAS TO RIDE IN THAT CAR, AND I HAVE TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT I AM AFRAID FOR HIS SAFETY, BUT EVEN THAT HAS NOT HELPED TO GET ME ANY SATISFACTION. BRAKES HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN THE PAST YEAR. DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO REPLACE THEM THE SECOND TIME. BRAKES ARE TOTALLY UNSAFE. *JB

MY 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3 STALLS ON CURVES AND HESITATES AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE, AND HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS ISSUE 4 TIMES AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON ONE OCCASION BECAUSE MY SPEED DROPPED RAPIDLY ON A CORNER. TS
NAR 03/05/2003 THE VEHICLE ENGINE SPED OUT OF CONTROL BY ITSELF WITH A HUGH BURST OF SPEED, AND THE CAR RAN INTO THE SHRUBBERY AT THE EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT. *CB
THE FIRESTONE FIREHAWK TIRES, HAS HAD TERRIBLE ROAD NOISE FOR THE PAST 6,000 MILES. EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 6,000 MILES. LAST NIGHT AFTER THE DEALERSHIP PUT A NEW SET OF TIRES ON FROM A NEW CAR, TO PROVE TO ME THAT IT WAS THE TIRES. I AM NOT HAPPY! ALSO, THE INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD NEED NEW BRAKES...OKAY, THAT IS POSSIBLE. HOWEVER, THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED NEW ROTORS. NOTHING THAT THEY COULD BE TURNED...JUST THAT I NEED NEW ONES. WHEN I STILL HAVE BRAKE PADS. HOW CAN THAT BE? ARE THEY MADE OF SOFT METAL THAT THEY DON'T LAST? THAT FORD COUNTS THAT AS A WEARING PROBLEM, SO THE COST IS ON ME?
VEHICLE STARTS TO LOSE POWER. ENGINE MISFIRES, THEN STALLS. AFTER SITTING A FEW MINUTES, CAR WILL RESTART FINE. WILL THEN REPEAT.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED. *DT *NLM
HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. THE IGNITION LOCKED UP AND THE KEY WAS UNABLE TO BE PLACED INTO THE IGNITION FULLY, NOTHING MOVED, NOTHING WORKED. UPON REPEATED ATTEMPTS THE CAR WAS FINALLY TOWED AND NOTHING HAS COME OUT OF IT. I HAVE HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER 2001 FOCUS', BUT STILL I HEAR NOTHING OF THIS FROM FORD DEALERSHIPS. I ALSO HAVE HEARD RUMORS OF NUMEROUS RECALLS FOR THE 2001 FOCUS', BUT STILL I ONLY FIND 2 RELEASED. I'M JUST FEELING LIKE A USED CONSUMER THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF.

VEHICLE SLUGGISH WHEN GAS PEDAL PUSHED, FINALLY STALLED OUT AND WOULDN'T START FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN STARTED ONLY RAN FOR A MOMENT THEN STALLED AGAIN. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER WHERE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER WERE REPLACED.
