VEHICLE HESITATED TO START. STARTED AFTER 40/45 MINS. DEALERSHIP SERVICED VEHICLE. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS. MR
PREMATURE TREAD SEPARATION AFTER ONLY 11,700 MILES.*AK
JUST COMPLETED 3 HOUR TRIP IN HEAVY RAIN. HAD DRIVEN THROUGH AREA OF ROAD WITH SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER. WHILE VEHICLE APPROACHED FROM OPPOSITE DIRECTION THE RESULTING SPLASH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. TOWED CAR TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO TOO MUCH WATER IN THE ENGINE. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THE AIR INTAKE VALVE IS LOCATED NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT BUMPER. THIS HAS CAUSED US TO NEED A NEW ENGINE ON A CAR THAT WE HAVEN'T EVEN HAD FOR THREE MONTHS. FORD REFUSES TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE AND INSISTS IT ISN'T A DESIGN FLAW. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER STATED THAT IT IS ODD THAT THE ENGINE WOULD FAIL DUE TO WATER INTAKE.*AK
I BOUGHT MY 2002 FORDFOCUS IN AUGUST 2002 FROM UNIVERSAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK. ABOUT ONE MONTH LATER OF HAVING THE FOCUS MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING. MY NEW CAR ONLY FELT AND DROVE LIKE A NEW CAR FOR ONE MONTH. I TOOK BACK THE CAR FOR SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS NORMAL. I RECENTLY CHANGED MY BRAKE PADS AND HAD MY ROTORS CHECKED OUT AND STILL AM HAVING BRAKES SQUEALING. *LA
EVERY TIME IT RAINED THE CAR WOULD LEAK WATER ON PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR FROM BEHIND GLOVE BOX. DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO FIX 5 TIMES. FORD AGREED CAR WAS A LEMON AND BOUGHT IT BACK AFTER 6 MONTHS AND 31 DAYS OF BEING OUT OF SERVICE.*JB

CONSUMER CALLED COMPLETING ABOUT A REALLY BAD VIBRATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL EVERYTIME HE APPLY'S THE BRAKE PEDAL HE ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS STALL ON DIFFERENT OCCASION WHILE HE WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET. THE 2002 FORD FOCUS SE COMFORT WAGON HAS BEEN A CONTINUAL PROBLEM OF NOT STAYING IN ALIGNMENT (NAMED THE REAR WHEELS WORST THAT THE FRONT) FOR MORE THAN 5000 MILES BEFORE NEEDING ADDITION ADJUSTMENTS. TIRES HAVE LASTED LESS THAN 20,000 MILES (REGARDLESS OF MANUFACTURER) BEFORE TOTALLY WORN OUT AND NEEDING REPLACEMENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH IN THE CENTER LANE, THE CONSUMER BLACKED OUT AND HIT THE GUARDRAIL. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND THEN A FIRE BEGAN UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER IS VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD COMPLETELY BURNT IN 10 MINUTES. *AK THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE FORD FOCUS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF OF THE MARKET, STATING THAT FOR THE 48 YEARS SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING, SHE HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED A SITUATION OF THIS TYPE AND FEELS THAT SOMETHING WAS SMOLDERING OR BURNING IN THE VEHICLE AS SHE WAS DRIVING. *SCC
STEERING WHEEL LOST CONTROL WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED. AS RESULT, LOWER AND UPPER BALL JOINTS AND BRAKE WERE DAMAGED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK UPDATED 1/11/2006. THERE WAS POPPING AND CLICKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE TURNING. THIS CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL AND HIT A CURB. THE IMPACT RESULTED IN A BLOWN TIRE. *NM
MY FATHER OWNS THIS VEHICLE, BUT HE BOUGHT IT FOR ME FOR SAFETY REASONS, I AM A 16 YEAR OLD FEMALE. TRAVELING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED ON A DRY, TWO LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO TRAFFIC AT NIGHT MY 2002 FORD FOCUS LOST CONTROL DUE TO THE FRONT CONTROL ARM FRACTURING. MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE ENDED UP TOTALLY UNATTACHED TO THE CONTROL ARM AND ONLY STAYING ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE BY THE HOLD OF THE TIE ROD. MY VEHICLE SWERVED INTO THE MEDIAN AND INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC (THANKFULLY NO TRAFFIC WAS AROUND). BEING BY MYSELF WITH NO CELL PHONE I WAITED UNTIL SOMEONE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A POLICE MAN, OFFICER STROM FROM THE TITUSVILLE POLICE DEP'T STOPPED AND NOTICED THE SKID MARKS AND VERIFIED THE FRONT WHEEL HAD IN FACT COME LOOSE OF THE CONTROL ARM AND CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR, HERB DANIEL'S ALSO VERIFIED THE FRACTURE IN THE CONTROL ARM. I WAS NOT PHYSICALLY INJURED, BUT IT WAS PRETTY EMOTIONALLY TRAUMATIZING. MY DAD LOOKED UP INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND FOUND THAT ACCIDENTS SIMILAR TO MINE HAD BEEN REPORTED BEFORE AND NO RECALLS HAD BEEN MADE. WE HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE TO SHOW THE SKID MARKS AND SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. AT THIS POINT OUR MAIN CONCERN IS TO KEEP THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN AND TO MAKE SURE THE NEW PART THAT WILL BE ADDED TO THE CAR WILL NOT BE DEFECTIVE.*AK
PURCHASED CAR NEW MAY 2002. FOCUS ZTS. IN AUGUST TOOK CAR TO ONTARIO CANADA ON ROADTRIP FROM MISSOURI. WAY BACK FROM TRIP, NOTICED VIBRATIONS FROM BACK OF CAR AT HIGHWAY SPEED. DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT BECAUSE OF SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH ESCORT. TOOK CAR ON TRIP TO MYRTLE BEACH IN MAY 2003 AND THE VIBRATION WAS MORE THEN OBVIOUS AT 55MPH. WHEN RETURNED FROM TRIP TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE. DRIVER SIDE REAR BUSHING ON TIRE ARM WAS WORN. WHEEL WAS TILTED AND TIRE WAS WEARING WRONG. DEALERSHIP REPLACED ARM AND TIRE. TOOK CAR ON ANOTHER TRIP MARCH 2004 NOTICED EXTREME VIBRATION STILL COMING FROM SAME SIDE/BACK OF CAR. SHAKES PLASTIC BAGS IN BACKSEATS. VIBRATES DRIVER SEAT AND STEERINGWHEEL. BECAUSE MOST OF MY DRIVING IS ON REGULAR ROADS IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT BECOMES OBVIOUS RIGHT AWAY. WILL BE TAKING CAR IN AGAIN ASAP. ALSO HAD A PROBLEM RIGHT AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR WITH THE PASSERNGER SIDE FRONT FLOOR WET AFTER HUGE RAIN. TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR AND I DON'T THINK THERE HAS BEEN A NOTICEABLE PROBLEM SINCE.*AK
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED. *AK AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF REPAIRING THE AIR BAG/AIR BAG SENSORS, THE PROBLEM WAS STILL OCCURING AS OF AUGUST 15TH 2002 AND AT THAT TIME THEY WERE WAITING ON PARTS. (REPAIRS MADE AT THE DEALER) *SCC
BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND REAR WHEEL BUCKLED. NOW RUBBING ON FRONT OF FIREWALL. *AK
WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY HEARD A BUMP. VISUALLY INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND DID NOT SEE ANY DAMAGE. CONSUMER THAN BEGAN DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER AGAIN INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND SAW THAT WHEEL ASSEMBLY HAD BUCKLED, AND THE REAR PASSENGER'S TIRE WAS RUBBING AGAINST FIREWALL.*AK
WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND WENT INTO A STALL. I THOUGH I DID SOMETHING WRONG AND DIDN'T REPORT IT. AT 1800 MILES I DROVE HOME FROM WORK MADE A BRIEF STOP AND WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART MY CAR NOTHING WORKED. THE DASHBOARD WHEN BLANK. VEH HAD TO BE TOWED & WAS KEPT FOR 5 DAYS A FUEL PUMP WAS PUT IN. AT 2874 MILES A MONTH LATER I STOPPED FOR GAS AND VEHICLE AGAIN WOULDN'T START DASH BOARD WENT BLANK. VEH TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP & KEPT 3 DAYS. A NEW STARTER WAS PUT IN. JULY 15 ENGINE LIGHT & GAS LIGHT WOULDN'T GO OFF (WAS TOLD NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT KEEP ON DIRIVNG) TOOK VEH FOR REPAIR LIGHT WENT OFF. 8/2/02 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, RUSH HOUR ON INTERSTATE 295 AT 60 MPH. DASH BOARD WENT DEAD ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & VEH LOST ALL POWER. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT AND FEW MINUTES. HAD NO CELL PHONE & WAS IN A DANGEROUS ON RAMP I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEH MOVING. AGAIN AFTER A SHORT DISTANCE EVERYTHING WHEN DEAD. I WAITED AND AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO MAKE IT HOME. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME AND CALL DEALERSHIP. I ATTEMPED TO GET VEH TO DEALERSHIP, BUT VEHICLE AGAIN DIED IN THE ROAD. ALL LIGHTS CAME ON THE VEH WOULD START. AFTER WAITING I WAS EVENUTALLY ABLE TO GET CAR TO DEALERS. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I FEEL I AM PUTTING MY LIFE AND OTHERS AT RISK WITH THIS CAR ON THE ROAD. I AM HANDYCAPPED AND PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR SAFETY REASONS. IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. HOW CAN I GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE AND GET IT REPLACED? I AM TRUELY CONCERNED FOR MY LIFE IN THE CAR. FORD FOCUS: BACK DOOR WILL NOT ALWAYS LATCH. MY SON ALMOST FELL OUT OF THE CAR, THANKFULLY HE WAS STRAPPED INTO HIS CAR SEAT. I SHUT THE DOOR AND WAS DRIVING AWAY WHEN THE DOOR FLEW OPEN. FOCUS IS WHITE,ONLY 1 1/2 OLD AND HAS RUST SPOTS ALL OVER THE CAR. THE TRUNK OF THE CAR HAS THE MOST RUST.THE RADIO DIAL HAS MELTED FEELS LIKE YOU ARE PLAYING WITH BUBBLE GUM. HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS KEEPING THE CAR ON THE ROAD IN RAIN AND SNOW. I TAKE THE TURNPIKE TO WORK AND FEEL THAT I AM GOING TO SLIDE INTO ANOTHER CAR IF I GO FASTER THEN 25 MILES AN HOUR IN THE RAIN OR SNOW.*AK
OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT VEHICLE SHOULD GET 26 GALLONS IN CITY AND 32 ON HIGHWAY. HOWEVER,VEHICLE GETS 18 GALLONS IN CITY. CONSUMER FEELS THE INFORMATION IS INCORRECT IN OWNERS MANUAL. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

REAR PASSENGER TIRE THREAD SEPARATION: DRIVING TO WORK AT 8:40A, ON A 3 LANE FREEWAY PLUS A CARPOOL LANE. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LINE, WHEN THE CAR VIBRATED. I THOUGHT I COULD GET TO WORK TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. DROVE ANOTHER 1-2 MILES, WHEN THE VIBRATION BECAME VIOLENT. I SWEARVED INTO THE FAST LANE, CRINGING AND WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO HIT ME, SINCE I JUMPED INTO THEIR LANE. I ATTEMPTED TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR , BUT WAS LOSING CONTROL. I VEERED BACK TO THE 3RD LANE AND THEN FISHTAILED , HEADING FOR THE CENTER DIVIDER. I CROSSED OVER INTO THE FAST LANE AND THE CARPOOL LANE , STAREING AT THE WALL. I MANAGED TO STRUGGLE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN THE FRONT OF THE CAR AWAY FROM THE WALL, JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME TO FISHTALE AWAY. MY LEFT REAR BUMPER SIDESWIPED THE WALL AS I HEADED BACK ACROSS OVERALL 4 LANES, TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER, WHERE I CAME TO A STOP. IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT NO ONE HIT ME WHEN I FIRST WENT OUT OF CONTROL. IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT NO ONE SLAMMED INTO SOMEONE ELSE, AS THEY SLOWED DOWN TO LET ME CONTINUE STAY " OUT OF CONTROL" UNTIL I CAME TO HALT. IT WAS THE MOST HORRIFIYING 20 SECONDS OF MY LIFE. MY LIFE WAS SPARED, AND SO WAS SOMEONE ELSE'S, IF THE TIME HAD BEEN DIFFERENT. I HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER FIREHAWK TIRE AND FIRESTONE REQUEST THAT I MAIL THEM THE DAMAGE TIRE!!! HOW DO YOU MAIL A TIRE!?!?!?! INSANE.*AK
WHILE GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITH TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND ENGINE STILL RUNNING, DRIVER'S DOOR HAD AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED, CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GAIN ENTRANCE UNTIL SPARE KEY WAS USED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK *TT
THIS IS THE THIRD OCCASION THAT THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED. NEITHER THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY OR MY FORD DEALER ARE ABLE TO EXPLAIN OR OFFER ANY RECTIFICATION OF THIS PARTICULARY DANGEROUS PROBLEM.NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED FOR ABOVE VEHICLE. *AK
ON 7/11/2002 MY WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN A NEAR HEAD-ON ACCIDENT. SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ANOTHER CAR SUDDENLY TURNED LEFT IN TO HER PATH. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD RIGHT OF WAY. MY WIFE HIT THE OTHER CAR IN THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE. THE FORD FOCUS ZX5 SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE AND WITH A COST OF OVER $12,000 TO REPAIR IT WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A FRONTAL COLLISION AND THE BUMPER WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO. TODAY AT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER (1-866-693-6738) I WAS INFORMED BY STEVE THAT IF I WANTED TO FIND OUT WHY THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY THAT I COULD PAY TO HAVE THEM TESTED. WHEN I QUESTIONED AS TO WHY I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE FORD TO POSSIBLY FIX A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAGS HE SAID THAT THAT IS WHAT THE COMPUTER POP UP STATED. FORD SHOULD BE MORE RECEPTIVE TO WANTING TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS A PROBLEM. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM THEN FORD SHOULD COMPENSATE ME AND MY WIFE.*AK
VEHICLE HIT A RETAINING WALL AT 65 MPH, THEN ROLLED A FEW TIMES. SEATBELT DID NOT RESTRAIN DRIVER, AND DRIVER HIT HEAD ON WINDSHIELD. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED.*AK
AT 65 MPH VEHICLE HIT A RETAINING WALL, THEN ROLLED A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CONSUMER HIT HEAD ON WINDSHIELD, VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED.*AK
TRAVELLING INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH, WENT AROUND TURN IN HIGHWAY, STEERING DID NOT RESPOND, HIT LEFT FRONT ON GUARDRAIL AND SLID ALONG THE GUARDRAIL FOR ABOUT 100 FT, CAR TOTALLED. *AK
AT APPROX THREE HOURS AFTER PURCHASING OUR NEW FOCUS, WE WHERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK, AND THE SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 60 TO 140, AND RETURNED TO ZERO. THE VEHICLE THEN CAME TO A STALL. WE THEN NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE FUEL CAP, AND THE ENGINE SERVICES SOON. WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT APPROX 5 MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. WE THEN RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE SERVICES DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE CAUSES WAS A LOOSE GROUNDS, AND INCOMPLETE CIR. THE SERVICES DEPARTMENT CORRECTIONS WERE DIAG. LED TO LOOSE GROUND CONNECTIONS NEAR BATTERY. A FEW DAYS LATER THE VEHICLE DID NOT WANT TO START, AND IT TOOK 2 ATTEMPT'S TO START THE VEHICLE.*AK
THE FIRESTONE FIREHAWK GTA-02 ORIGINAL TIRES THAT CAME WITH MY 2002 FORD FOCUS ZX3 APPEAR TO HAVE A FLAW. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY FOCUS, I NOTICED A "BUBBLE" ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE'S SIDEWALL. THE OTHER THREE TIRES HAVE BEEN FINE OVER THE PAST ENSUING 21 MONTHS SO I HAVE TO BE BELIEVE THAT THIS ONE TIRE WAS FLAWED COMING OUT OF THE FACTORY. MY FORD DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE IT WITHOUT CHARGING A FULL PRICE SINCE THERE IS NO KNOWN RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR TIRE. YET, I SEE NOW THROUGH THE NHTSA THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL "SIDEWALL BUBBLE" COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS TIRE MODEL. PLEASE ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE LIST, SINCE I HAVE DRIVEN A LOT OF CARS OVER THE YEARS, AND NEVER SAW A "BUBBLE" POP UP LIKE THIS ....SEEMINGLY OUT OF NOWHERE! TOM. *AK

MAY 25, 2002: VEHICLE STALLED ON HWY 15/93 INTERCHANGE IN LAS VEGAS, NV WHILE DOING 65 MPH. TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE, AND WE WERE ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SAFETY WAS OF MAIN CONCERN HERE AS WE WERE NOT THAT FAR OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED 30 MIN. LATER. MAY 27, 2002: VEHICLE STALLED FOR SECOND TIME ON HWY 93, 34 MILES SOUTHEAST OF KINGMAN ARIZONA WHILE GOING UP A HILL AT 65 MPH. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO PULL OFF ONTO. THERE WAS HOLIDAY TRAFFIC AND WE HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE UP A BLIND HILL (TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC) 70 FT TO THE NEAREST SHOULDER. WE WERE TOWED INTO KINGMAN. SINCE THEN, THE FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES IN 68 DAYS. WHILE NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE WE ARE IN A LOCATION THAT WILL NOT AFFORD US A SAFE EXIT. CLEARLY, THE FUEL PUMP DESIGN IN THIS VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE.*AK

THIS IS MY SECOND FORD, FOCUS. MY CAR STALLS OUT AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHILE DRIVING. I INITIATED THE LEMON LAW FOR THE PREVIOUS FOCUS 2001, BUT WAS OFFERED A 2002 TO AVOID MY PROCEEDING TO LEMON LAW ARBITRATION. WRONG MOVE ON MY PART. MY 2002 HAS THE SAME IGINITION PROBLEMS ... STALLS OUT/STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHILE DRIVING! I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING A FORD FOCUS.
