I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH IN FIFTH GEAR AND SOMETHING IN THE ENGINE BLEW. I STARTED BLOWING OIL AND SMOKE OUT THE REAR, "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" CAME ON, AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I LOST ALL POWER AND POWER STEERING, SO I MADE MY WAY TO THE SHOULDER. I PULLED THE HOOD LATCH AND STEPPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE I WITNESSED FLAMES SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE BAY. I BACKED UP AND WATCHED THE FRONT OF THE CAR FULLY ENGULF INTO FLAMES.
DEATH/SAFETY RISK!! ONCE AGAIN DRIVING MY FOCUS ON RAINY WEATHER, AND IT SPUTTERED AND STALLED. HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID SERIOUS REAR END COLLISION. CAR WOULD NOT START FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MIN. FINALLY STARTED AND ROUGHLY IDLED ENOUGH TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER. VERY FRUSTRATING. ESPECIALLY AFTER SPENDING APPX $1300.00 TO GET THIS REPAIRED AND SUPPOSEDLY 100% FIXED. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE- NEVER BUYING A FORD AGAIN. GLAD MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER WASN'T DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN A TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, FUEL LINE PRESSURE SENSOR, AND THE IGNITION COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM BEING STOPPED AT A LIGHT TO COMPLETE A LEFT TURN THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATOR AND BEGAN TO SHUTTER EVEN THOUGH I WAS PRESSING THE GAS THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO MOVE FROM TRAFFIC AND NARROWLY AVOIDED BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AS I NEED MY VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN .I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS ALL SHUTTERING WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS TRYING TO SHIFT GEAR. IF IT HAD BEEN DISCLOSED THE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE I WOULD NOT OF PURCHASED IT. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER 1 YEAR (SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW) AND I HAVE BROUGHT TO FORD 4 TIMES AND EACH TIME I AM TOLD IT IS OPERATING WITHIN NORMAL PERAMATORS . THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CLUTCH ONLY AFTER I HAD THE CAR FOR ONLY 3 MONTHS. I ALSO REACHED OUT TO FORD CORPORATION AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER THEY CAN DO.
CAR UNEXPECTEDLY HESITATES, DUE TO TRANSMISSION DESIGN, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THIS CAUSES VEHICLES BEHIND YOU TO RAPIDLY CATCH UP, MAKING A REAR IMPACT/ACCIDENT MORE LIKELY. ALSO, THIS SAME TRANSMISSION HESITATION CAUSES THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE OUT OF HARMS WAY WHEN NECESSARY. *TR
I BOUGHT MY FORD FOCUS AS A FORD CERTIFIED CAR ON 04/06/2015. CAR IS USED, HAD APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT THE BEGINNING OF MAY I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SHUTTERING WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE. IT BECAME WORSE AND TOOK IT INTO DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE SERVICE PERSON THAT IT IS THE CLUTCH. HE SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE 2-3 MONTHS TO GET THE PART AS THE CLUTCH IS ON BACK ORDER DUE TO SO MANY CARS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I ASKED WHY I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT THIS DEFECT WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHY DIDN'T DEALER FIX IT BEFORE SELLING IT. THE PROBLEM HAS ESCALATED AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE AROUND WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN. I AM ALSO SCARED AS THE SHUTTERING IS AMPLIFIED GOING UP HILL AND WHEN ACCELERATING. I COMPLAINED TO FORD MOTOR BUT THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK TO ME. I FEEL THAT I WAS SOLD THE CAR UNDER FALSE CIRCUMSTANCES. IF I HAD KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT SOMETHING ELSE. I AM 71, THIS PROBABLY MY LAST CAR AND I CANNOT EVEN ENJOY IT AS AFRAID OF CRASH. THIS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THERE ARE SO MANY CLUTCHES THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED; WHY NO RECALL?? THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT FIXED IT AND SAYS THE CAR IS SAFE. I DO NOT AGREE. THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNTIL PART IS IN.
THE CAR SHUDDERS OR HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. SO FAR THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THAT "SOME SHUDDERING IS NORMAL". I JUST DON'T SEE HOW THAT IS NORMAL. NOW NOT ONLY IS THE CAR SHUDDERING BUT IT ALSO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN IT SHUDDERS. CAR HAS 12,000 MILES ON IT

WHILE I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC MY 2014 FORD FOCUS WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO CURL THE TRUNK UP TO BEHIND THE BACK SEAT, EXPOSING THE SPARE TIRE LOCATED UNDER THE TRUNK. AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, THE MESSAGE STEERING ASSIST FAILURE WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
BOUGHT BRAND NEW. WHEN ACCELERATING, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEARS IT HESITATES AND SHUTTERS AND GRINDS AND THERE IS CONSIDERABLE DELAY IN ACCELERATION BETWEEN 2ND AND THIRD GEAR. IT THEN SEEMS TO GRAB ONTO A GEAR AND PLUNGE FORWARD. IT IS AN AUTOMATICALLY POWERED MANUAL TRANSMISSION SO I DO NOT SHIFT, IT SHIFTS AUTOMATICALLY.
THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, WHEN TRYING TO TURN OUT OF A SIDE STREET ONTO AN MAIN INTERSECTION MY CAR HESITATES, JERKS, AND SHAKES CAUSING ME TO BE SLOW PULLING OUT AND ALMOST CAUSING MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS WHEN I KNOW I HAVE PLENTY OF RUN IF THE CAR DOESN'T HESITATES. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO FORD MULTIPLE TIMES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I HAVE READ OF MANY OTHER USERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
THE POWERTRAIN TRANSMISSION DOES A HERKY JERKY JUMPING WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP TO START POSITION. IF I AM DRIVING AND HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND RE-ACCELERATE IT HESITATES AND WILL NOT SPEED UP. IT HESITATES TO GO ON ACCELERATION AT OTHER TIMES. FORD HAS TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL AND THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I AM WORRIED THAT I WILL GET INTO AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, THE BOGGING DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND THE JUMPING. IT HAS SKIPPED A GEAR WHILE DRIVING AND MAKES GRINDING NOISES. FORD WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS AND STATES THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THEY WON'T TAKE IT BACK OR CORRECT THE SITUATION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND BOTH SAID IT CHECKED OUT "FINE" BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT FORD TELLS THEM TO SAY.
WHILE ACCELERATING, VEHICLE FREQUENTLY STALLS AND/OR HESITATES TO CONTINUE ACCELERATION CREATING A JERKING AFFECT UNTIL IT CAN ACTUALLY CATCH AGAIN OR PROVIDE FUEL TO ACCELERATE. THIS TYPICALLY OCCURS WHEN PRESSING ON THE PEDAL BOTH WHEN STOPPED/START OR IF IN MOTION AND ACCELERATE TO GO ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WHILE DRIVING ON A DAILY BASIS.
WHEN BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE THE TRANSMISSION HAS A DELAY AND/OR A 'BUCK' CAUSING HESITATION OR UNWANTED SURGE IN ACCELERATION. I HAVE HAD THIS TO THE DEALER SOON AFTER PURCHASE AND THEY DID NOT RESOLVE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 FORD FUSION EV, THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING SOUNDED AND THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING ERROR DISPLAYED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER AND STRANDED ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS OCCURRED IN FRONT ON MY HOME. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. I DROVE THE CAR AND WITHIN SECONDS, ONCE AGAIN EXPERIENCED THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING AND IMMEDIATE POWER LOSS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR LOCAL ROAD, THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST DRIVING POWER (ACCESSORIES STILL WORKED) AND A WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON SAYING "STOP SAFELY NOW!". MY WIFE WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE CAR MOVING AGAIN, EVENTUALLY TOWING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN WE PICKED THE CAR UP THEY STATED THAT A CONNECTION TO THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY CAME LOOSE AND THEY'VE FIXED IT. YESTERDAY, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR, THE SAME WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. WE ONCE AGAIN HAVE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER CALLED ME THIS MORNING SAYING THE CAR "WORKS FINE" WHICH MAKES ME MORE CONCERNED SINCE CLEARLY THIS ISSUE IS NOW TOTALLY UNPREDICTABLE. *TR
Our 2014 Ford Focus SE must be repaired again for the same transmission defect. Our original transmission repair was covered under a recall. I was told by the Ford dealer that my repair would not be covered as the recall had expired! Ford now uses a “Loyalty Program” to deny what was once a recall. The only warranty we have under the "Loyalty Program" is the TCM module. Ford is denying any coverage for the transmission repair. We purchased the vehicle new and were never told about this defective design. The danger is that there is no warning that the transmission is failing. Should the transmission fail while driving this could result in a crash. The first failure occurred while traveling on [XXX] toward Tampa Florida. We pulled out into the center lane to pass slower traffic only to find out the transmission did not respond, and we lost speed and had to get over to the right lane to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. Ford must repair the vehicles and not deny coverage under the sham of a loyalty program. At present, Ford wants $4,497.66 to complete the repairs of our vehicle. Ford said the transmission will fail again in 35,000 to 80,000 miles depending on how the car is driven. I will not be the only complaint regarding this type of transmission design because Ford used this same transmission design in several models. We need the NHSTA to investigate and look up the original recall for this failure and have it recalled once again. VEHICLE SHAKES, HESITATES, SHUDDERS FROM STOP AND AT SLOW SPEEDS. VERY JERKY AND INCONSISTENT SHIFTING THROUGH THE FIRST 2 TO 3 GEARS. NOT AS APPARENT AT SPEEDS OVER 25MPH. *TR
THIS MODEL HAS A "STICKY" STEERING WHEEL THAT WILL NOT ALWAYS RETURN TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION WITH OUT DRIVER ASSISTANCE AND NEEDS TO BE CONSTANTLY ADJUSTED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. YOU CAN ACTUALLY LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE GOING AROUND A GRADUAL CURVE IN THE ROAD AND THE CAR WILL FOLLOW THE CURVE THE WHOLE WAY WITHOUT BREAKING ITS ARCH. IT ALSO SUFFERS FROM DANGEROUS "TORQUE STEERING" WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE STEERING TO LOSE CONTROL WHEN YOU ACCELERATE AGGRESSIVELY. IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRIC STEERING REACTS POORLY WITH THE REGENERATIVE BREAKING. IF YOU NEED TO BREAK HARD, THE STEERING WILL SWERVE DANGEROUSLY AND INHIBIT DRIVER CONTROL. I'VE APPROACHED FORD ABOUT THIS AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAY THAT'S JUST THE WAY THE CAR IS. I'VE TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS OF THIS TYPE OF CAR AND NOT ALL BUT A GOOD PORTION HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. ONE MAN EVEN SAID HE'S AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR 1. FOR SAFETY, BUT 2. BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE DRIVING DRUNK BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE STEERING JUST TO KEEP THE CAR IN LINE - LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE SWERVING. LASTLY, THE MILEAGE THEY SAY YOU CAN GET FROM A CHARGE ISN'T ACCURATE AND THEIR APP DOESN'T WORK IN ALL LOCATIONS. NEITHER OF WHICH THEY DISCLOSED BEFORE I LEASED THIS CAR. VEHICLE BROKE DOWN ON HIGHWAY AND HAD TO PULL OFF TO SHOULDER. TACH RACED AND THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND EVENTUALLY STALLED. EMERGENCY PULL OFF TO SHOULDER. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. AFTER 45 MIN CAR ROUGHLY STARTED, AND I COULD PULL VEHICLE TO A SAFER LOCATION. VERY DANGEROUS! LIMPED THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. AFTER 6-7 DAYS AND $1300.00 THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED I HAD A FAILED PUMP ASSEMBLY, SENSOR, AND COIL ASSEMBLY. ORIGINAL ISSUE BEGAN IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE 3/28/15. MADE APPT. WITH DEALERSHIP FOR APRIL 15, 2015. I WAS TOLD THE CAR NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. AFTER A COMPLAINT TO MY STATE ATTNY GENERAL, THE REPAIR WAS MADE IN MID MAY. CAR DROVE OK FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS AT WHICH POINT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES BEGAN AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/4/2016 AND WAS TOLD YET AGAIN, IT NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THAT DAY. SPECIFICALLY, UPON ACCELERATION THE CAR STUTTERS BADLY AND DOES NOT WANT TO CATCH THE GEAR. DURING DRIVING, IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS TO TURN WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKE, TRANSMISSION DOES NOT CHANGE GEARS; IT ROARS AND THE TACHOMETER NEEDLE SWINGS TO HIGH RPMS BEFORE IT LEVELS OUT. WHEN YOU PARK THE CAR, TURN IT OFF AND TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS BANGING AGAINST SOMETHING ELSE. IF THE CAR IS PARKED ON THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE, UPON STARTING, IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. FURTHERMORE, DURING ROUTINE DRIVING YOU CAN DETECT UNNEEDED SHIFTING BY THE TRANSMISSION. I REGRET THE DAY I BOUGHT THIS CAR. TWO BAD CLUTCHES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. THIS TRANSMISSION WAS JUNK FROM THE BEGINNING.

THE PCM AND TCM WERE REPROGRAMMED AND THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500.
TRANSMISSION IN THE NEW 2014 FORD FOCUS STARTED SHUDDERING AND SLIPPING. IT WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS ON HILLS. IT WOULD SLIP IN SLOWER TRAFFIC. ON TAKEOFF IT WOULD SHUDDER. TOOK THIS IN TO HAVE FIXED. AND HAS BEEN IN SHOP 3 TIMES. THIS IS DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. 4 DIFFERENT TIMES WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN I WOULD TRY TO TAKE OFF AND THEY WOULD SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES BEHIND ME. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT; HOWEVER, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ONLY RECEIVED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING REGARDING THE FAILURE TWICE RATHER THAN AT LEAST THREE TIMES, THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT. AS STATED IN OTHER COMMENTS WIPER WORK FOR A BIT THEN STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDOW. I HAVE HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED AND WIPERS BY A FORD DEALER. THIS ISSUE IS A BIG PROBLEM WHEN IT RAINS. THE DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG; BUT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE WIPERS. WILL CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF NOT CORRECTED. SEEMS MANY OTHERS STATE THE SAME PROBLEMS.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stationary position, the vehicle would jump, vibrate, and shudder and would not immediately properly accelerate. In addition, the check engine light would illuminate as the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission clutch was faulty and needed to be replaced. The clutch was replaced but the failure reoccurred. WHEN PULLING FORWARD OUT OF A GAS STATION, I HIT THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR STARTED SHUTTERING AND JUMPING, THEN REED UP TO 3,000 RPM AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, I WAS ONLY TRYING TO GO FORWARD ABOUT 20 FEET. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO FORD EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED OUR BRAND-NEW FORD FOCUS SE 2014 IN THAT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY. MORE THAN ONCE THE ENGINE RESPONDS BUT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOTHING AT ALL! I TOOK MY CAR IN WITH THE ABOVE COMPLAINT WITH ONLY 250 MILES AND I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED MORE MILES ON THE CAR, 2500, SO THAT THEY COULD LOOK AT TWO DIFFERENT MODULES AND RESET THEM IF NEEDED. WELL THATS WHAT THEY DID. I RETURNED AT A DIFFERENT TIME WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED YET MORE MILES ON THE CAR. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICING WITH 6500 MILES BUT NOW FORD IS SAYING THEY NEED 10,000 MILES BEFORE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING AT ALL.
