This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Ford Focus. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting to drive(D) the vehicle would shudder and slip out of gear. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving uphill approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started to shudder and slipped out of gear with the vehicle rolling backwards. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that on another occasion after the vehicle started shuddering, the vehicle remained stuck in first gear and the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that a fork inside the transmission and many clutches needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
While in heavy traffic, the car started to "shake". At one stop point I removed feet from brakes pedal to move forward, but car did not reacted and stayed in same spot as if car was parked. I then put the par in "P" and then "D" and then I was able to continue driving. Car has been "shaking" and "pulling" after that. That happened two week ago, I call Ford, but they hang up, I leave voicemails and they have not responded.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started jerking significantly. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch had failed. The vehicle was then taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission clutch and the transmission control module (TCM) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as Ford Customer Satisfaction Program Campaign Number: 19N08 for transmission clutch had expired and Ford Customer Satisfaction Program Campaign Number: 15B22 (TCM) part was not available. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle hesitated and the engine stalled. The transmission fault warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the muffle shop where the diagnostic produced a code indicating that the catalytic converter was faulty however, the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve, clutch assembly, second lever assembly tube, and cylinder assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,581.
The canister purge valve is stuck open causing a vacuum inside the fuel tank. Fuel tank is currently deformed because of the vacuum. This issue has lead to a recall in other year models of the Ford Focus (2012 & 2017) but not the 2014 Ford Focus.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would jerk, shudder or hesitate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light illuminated and the transmission service message was displayed. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure and referred him to a dealer for assistance. The dealer was also notified of the failure and provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered. Additionally, the gear shifter intermittently failed to shift to the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a faulty automatic clutch. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The car was having problems shifting and the check engine light came on. Took car to independent mechanic and they discovered the Transmission control module needs to be replaced, but not able to get one. Told there is a 50,000 on a waiting list to get one. Went to trade car in at ford dealership towards a new ford and they will give $100 for our 2014 focus with the TCM problem.
transmission control module faulted out. In 2018 a recall for the dual powershift clutch was repaired, now the TCM faulted out in the car while i was driving, i had an infant in the car and it died in the middle of a busy highway almost causing us to crash! I had to be towed, I called ford motor company to be told it was not under recall, only to find out that in fact it is, and their in a lawsuit currently for these problems. I work 2 jobs, Latham ford refused to even look at my vehicle for 2 months, i work, i cannot go without a car. The tcm is currently on a national backorder for thousands of people. I had no means of transportation for an entire month, it cost me hundreds of dollars for taxis and ubers. I found a replacement part on my own and had it installed yesterday. the manufacturer stated in the description, that the part was already programmed, it was not. It was misrepresented, and it cost me an extra $400.00 to have it programmed, and also the software needed to be updated to clear error codes in the tcm for it to be relearned. So far im out about 2 thousand dollars for a known manufacturing issue that could have ended FATAL. I want to be reimbursed for every dime i spent, and the inconvienience! I have reciepts for the part and labor! I will never buy a FORD product again after this. I could have died, along with my passenger. something needs to be done!
My drivers side door will not latch shut. It is not safe to drive.
The transmission continues to fail by losing power, jerking, gears slipping and the dual clutch shakes the car in low gear. The car has been in the Ford shop in Fayetteville, Ga on numerous occasions for the transmission. More than one time the shop said there was not any problem at all. We explained the car I’d unsafe because the transmission shutters and jerks. The car was also at Mcdonough Ford and they said the same thing - there is not any thing wrong with the car. Before the transmission issues Ford replaced the fuel tank and fuel injectors. Now, the transmission failed the car will not go into any gear.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would independently downshift with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and referred to contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
August 19th 2022 car violently jerked and check engine light came on I then pulled into parking lot. Stopped car and let cool off. After starting carbi put in reverse reverse gear would not engage. I was able to pull out of parking spot going forward. The 4 miles left to my house. The car transmission would loose all power and motor would rev up. Then tires would chirp and jerk would shudder and jerk then go into gear this was at light turned green. I almost completely stalled in busy intersection transmission would not engage. Ford has a field service action for the issue. Parts are backordered and months before they will repair or a diagnos issues
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became slightly difficult to turn. The following day after starting the vehicle the steering fault message was displayed and the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V514000 (Steering). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure stated in the recall. The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle failed to shift gear as needed or accelerate properly. The contact stated that the vehicle was losing motive power and stalling while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to side of the road and turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer stated that the clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 56,161.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated after placing the vehicle into drive(D) and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would hesitate and shudder and eventually begin to gain forward momentum. The contact stated that once the vehicle went through all the gears, at approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle would operate normally. However, the contact stated that once the speed was lowered, he would depress the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would hesitate and shudder. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had become a constant failure and would occur at various speeds. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the Transmission Control Module and the transmission clutches needed to be replaced. The contact was informed by the dealer that there were two manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Programs Numbers: 14M02 (Power Train) and 19N08 (Power Train) had been issued but that the warranty coverage period had been exceeded. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 177,000.
The steering gear assembly fails making a grinding noise. Is an internal issue and is not covered by recall 14S18. Arms are intact but steering assembly failed internally. Can feel gritty vibration from concerned part as I turn wheel
The vehicle suddenly lost power while driving and was unable to be shifted out of first gear. This happened while on a main road and thankfully I was not hit when this occurred. When the vehicle was put in reverse, it goes into neutral and revs the engine instead of engaging the gear. The check engine light is on, was on for two days prior to this incident. Since this incident the car has been unusable. I called many different Ford dealerships and only one would see my car since they all "have too many cars" waiting for the same repair. When I took my car into the dealership today (via towing, as they instructed), they did not even inspect it, and simply told me to have it towed back home. I believe this to be an egregious safety hazard that, despite the extended warranty, is in no way being ACTUALLY fixed. If nowhere will take my car to repair it then am I expected to just keep driving a broken, unsafe vehicle?
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and failed to shift gears as needed. The contact stated that the transmission and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle then lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the PCM, TCM, and clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the transmission shifter failed to shift to park(P). The contact stated that the vehicle started to roll away. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the transmission shifter cable located under the hood had malfunctioned. The contact stated that a friend was able to manually shift the transmission to the park, preventing the vehicle from rolling away. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who confirmed that the shift cable bushing was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number. 22V413000 (Power Train). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 95,000. The VIN was not provided.
My 2014 Ford Focus Titanium experiences bucks and jerking on a daily basis. I will be making turns crossing large streets and I will have a chance to go and when I do the car will stall and the power will come back almost getting me killed by oncoming traffic. Also at red lights or stop signs I will stop and then press the gas only to have the car go a little and then stall or jerk/buck in which the person behind me (especially at red lights) thinks I'm going and goes only to have me stop and then they almost hit my back (I actually had one person tap my back bumper but thank Jesus I was ok). Also on the highway doing 55-70 MPH and I press the gas to move a lane or go forward more the car will drop gears and stall causing the cars behind me to almost hit me and honk. This is not too mention the slips and bucks the transmission causes on the daily which are just annoying. This is extremely dangerous! I have given my wife my Nissan Rogue and taken the Ford Focus as I don't feel safe letting her (or myself) drive it. And the transmission has been replaced as well as the clutch before and most recent the car wouldn't go in reverse and they fixed the TCM. It is now known that Ford KNEW about these issues and did nothing! I'm afraid one day I will die in an accident and it will be because of this transmission but we don't have the money to get rid of the car we already paid off. And no one wants to buy this junker as we've tried to sell it! I don't know what to do as this is unbelievable?!
Transmission Control Module went out on my 2014 Ford Focus that I had just purchased March of 2022. The vehicle had only 40,000 miles wen the TCM went out and luckily it happened while I was in my driveway. I had the car towed to Owen Ford in Jarratt , VA. Of course, we had to wait for the part to come in which took a few months. At first we were told that we would have to pay for the TCM and the fee to do the work. Later we were called to tell us that Ford had made it a recall. So they finally repaired the TCM and called my husband to come try it out. My husband drove 7 miles up the road and back and went to the little store next to the dealership. When he got back in the car, the car would not go forward or in reverse. He walked back over to the dealership and told them the issue. They went and got it. Said they didn't know what was wrong with it because no code came up. So they said they would have to rebuild the whole transmission and it would cost me $3900. I'm sorry but I had no transmission problem until the TCM went out. And the dealership can't tell me what exactly is wrong but wants to charge me $3900. Ford should be responsible for fixing my vehicle. It was running just fine until the TCM went out.
One day when I went to go fill my 2014 Ford Focus up, my car started and stalled randomly. I could not get my car to turn back on. After a few tries, it finally came on. This issue would go on for two weeks every time I filled up my car. If my car only gets $10 in it, its fine though. only happens when I fill it up. Then my car gas gauge started acting funny and will fluctuate between empty and full while driving. I can't tell how much gas I have in my vehicle. Then my husband, who so happens to be a mechanic, took a look and noticed my fuel tank is now caved in and is deformed. There is a problem with my CPV which has now affected my fuel tank. Upon further investigation, I did see where there was a recall about the power train quite a few years ago and then not long after, another recall about the CPV failing and causing stalling, not accurate gas gauges, and deformed gas tanks. I called my local Ford dealership about this. When I typed in my VIN the only active recall was the door latch system. Which means it was either fixed in the past or for some reason my vehicle wasn't recalled when it should have been. My ford dealership said there was no current or past recalls on my specific vin and were refusing to fix my car. I feel like it is unfair my car was affected by a recall but I can't get it fixed just because my vin says my car wasn't affected. It definitely was. I am a poor college student just trying to make a life of myself. I will soon have no car, unless my husband finds a way to fix it without spending an arm and a leg. Thanks for listening and please help me. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the steering wheel was loose. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The VIN was not available.
I was at stop light. When I accelerated the car jerked then went into gear. It was fine until I had to stop and go again. Then an engine light came on. Then it said the trans is to hot, Pull over safely. Then it said to wait 5 minutes to let it cool down. Now I have to find a way to get it to a shop and try and repair it. It's a 2014 Ford Focus with 70.000 miles
01/08/2019- Vehicle was checked for fuel tank deformation (18S32) Vehicle Mileage 65,162 the technician comments read as follows (check dtcs, check for available PCM software update, no available software update, no parts replaced) 07/26/2022- Vehicle was brought to Billy Howell Ford Lincoln Dealership for a permanant emmissions code PO442. Ford Corporate arranged the Diagnostic appointment. The technician comments read as follows (checked dtc's. found multiple DTC's set in various modules. PO442 is only fault set in PCM. checked OASIS, no relevant information found. performed EVAP system test, passed. performed EVAP purge and seal test, passed. connected smoke machine to test for leaks. EVAP smoke machine measured a leak of approxamitely .040", near acceptable range. visual inspection during EVAP leak test, found smoke emitting from vapor canister fresh air vent tube, indicating EVAP vapor canister vent leakage. recommend replacing EVAP vapor canister and retesting. 07/30/2022- I took vehicle to have the EVAP vapor canister replaced mechanic noticed that the fuel tank was slightly deformed. I drove the vehicle approxamitely 120 miles so the PCM would cycle and clear the permanent code . Fuel guage was on empty w/light on. I stopped at gas station I put 26 dollars of e-85 in vehicle. when i returned to car the fuel gauge was reading full DTE 418 miles. The gauge was reading innacurate. I drove the car about 40 miles before it stalled and it would not start. I waited a few minutes and tried to start the vehicle and it started . Iimmediately drove home and parked it in the garage. All of these symptoms point to the recall (18S32) Billy Howell Ford say's my recall was already completed and I cant recall it again. The vehicle has never received a PCM reprogramming for the fuel tank (19S22) Ford was supposed to reprogram the PCM software back in 01/08/2019 when they checked for the tank deformation . Withouty the software update and necessary repairs. its a risk.
The transmission started not accelerating and I lost reverse then said my transmission was over heating
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that she was unable to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the parking aid malfunction warning message was displayed. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission control module to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,700.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed and became inoperable and felt loose. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was transferred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 41,004.
I purchased my 2014 Ford Focus in 2018. I drove it very little between 2020-2021 due to Covid and being furloughed. Once back to regular driving the car was shuttering and in July 2022 the clutch and TCM failed. At first the dealer denied it had anything to do with the transmission or settlement from ford. I had to file an intent to arbitrate just to get it fixed under the warranty. The TCM was on on indefinite back order and I was told it could be up to a year. I filed for arbitration trying to get a repurchase using the Magnuson moss the federal emission and design defect, and the consumer fraud act. I was denied because of the class action lawsuit. Ford refuses to honor their own warranty and the federal warranty because of this lawsuit. The suit was filed prior to my purchasing the vehicle as was the opt out. I am not involved w that lawsuit and should not be held to its terms. It’s terms benefit ford. The TCM warranty was extended to 10 years by Ford in 2015 2 years before the lawsuit. I filed a complaint w the EPA and miraculously Ford found a TCM and repaired it in one day. My car sat for months. It still shutters and has lost power in the 3 weeks that I have had it back. Mooresville Ford where the car was repaired refuses to give me an invoice or any information on any additional warranty on the replacement parts. This car is a danger and threat! The fact that u allowed ford to get away w this is disgusting. Ford claims that ur car has to fail 3 times before a repurchase. So your telling me that while driving, usually on the highway, at over 65 mph my car has to lose power and I have to navigate it to the right with my steering and brakes that should hopefully work before I can get a repurchase?! Under Magnuson moss and the EPA warranty I’m eligible for a repurchase. The car is not safe and I could not resell it to anyone in good conscience knowing that it will fail again. The replacement parts are the same defective parts that u allow them to use
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the message “Transmission Fault. Service Now” was displayed. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact veered to the side of the road for a moment. The contact was able to drive to her nearby residence at 5 MPH. The vehicle was then taken to the nearby dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (TCM) sensors had failed. The dealer replaced the TCM; however, the failure reoccurred. Additionally, the contact stated that she would hear abnormal dragging sounds coming from underneath the vehicle while driving. The contact stated that upon attempting to drive from a complete stop, she vehicle would shudder and fail to respond. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop, where it was diagnosed that the transmission was slipping. The The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the vehicle experienced an internal transmission failure, which caused a hole in the output shaft, and the hole extended to the transmission case. The contact contacted the manufacturer for assistance with repairing the vehicle under an unknown extended warranty, but the manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My daughter opened the passenger side rear door. When she pulled it shut it would not catch. Because the door would not shut the door ajar warning is staying on. We were out so I had to drive it home and it came open. So we tied it with a rope. I'm taking it to a dealership tomorrow.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
While driving down the road I went to accelerate and the vehicle revved up but didn't accelerate at all so I parked my vehicle and when I tried to move it again I had to back up yet I had no reverse all of a sudden. I limped it to my dealership and they told me that my clutch went out but it's an automatic so I didn't understand that, I had to get a new transmission and ever since it hasn't shifted smoothly and not even 50000 miles later I'm having the same problems only it's not under warranty and I can't afford a new transmission or a new car. I know that's my problem but what if I had been turning into traffic and it slipped? I would be at fault for an accident that wasn't my fault, it was a crappy transmission that failed and could have cost me my life, my son's life, or whoever I would have collided with's life. I just want to make sure no one else has the same false hope of merging into traffic and instead causes an accident.
The contact's mother-in-law owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle was shuddering and hesitated while responding. The contact's mother-in-law was able to continue driving; however, the failure reoccurred, and the transmission was slipping while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission clutch was replaced twice within a year and two months; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission control module (TCM) was replaced and reprogrammed, and the transmission clutch position was adjusted under warranty. Additionally, the vehicle was test-driven; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced at the owner's expense as the warranty had expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated during acceleration with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the gear shifter intermittently failed to shift to the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the actuator fork shift; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that Customer Satisfaction Campaign Number: 19N08 (Transmission Clutch) had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
I recently purchased the vehicle second-hand with 57,000 miles on it. Six weeks later, while driving the engine light came on and the car would not accelerate properly- it hesitated severely and would not shift itself into higher gears. The local Ford dealer diagnosed the problem as a Transmission Control Module failure and informed me this is a known manufacturer defect covered by warranty. However, the part is back ordered 18+months. A car with a safety defect identified by the NHTSA, litigated in court, and unable to be repaired due to unavailability of parts should not be allowed to be sold. The Ford Customer Satisfaction Program provided no assistance to resolve the problem. The car is un-driveable and repairs cannot be made because the part is back ordered. The 2014 Ford Focus is a dangerous car that should not be bought, sold, or driven.
The contact's son owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,317.
After the engine light had been on for about a day and before I remembered to get it looked at, an alarm indicating "transmission fault" suddenly came on when I was in the middle of an intersection and the car completely stopped moving and wouldn't accelerate. Other cars went around me, but I was stuck there until I was able to restart the engine and try again and pull over. If another driver had not been paying attention, it could have caused an accident. This occurred at a four way stop, but on a busier street it might have been worse. We were able to get it driving again after restarting, and the independent mechanic diagnosed it with multiple error codes from the transmission control module. They reset the error codes to get it out of second gear and advised us that the TCM would need to be replaced soon. When reaching out to multiple Ford dealers and customer support representatives, we were told that though the TCM issues were under extended warrenty the replacement TCM part are backordered and we were offered no guidance on when parts would arrive and were told others had been waiting for months, so we have no recourse to fix the faulty system and were offered no compensation or assistance in the meantime. It has so far been about 6 weeks since the incident and have no updates. As a family with one car, this leaves us unable to trust that our only vehicle and we have needed to rent cars at great expense for longer trips.
Transmission has failed. It’s available for inspection. Car wouldn’t drive up an incline. The problem has been reproduced at 2 mechanics. In the first 2 years of owning the car I had taken it to 2 Ford companies and the dealership that it was bought from. Jerking, slowing down between 15-25 miles, car wouldn’t start the first time after turning the key, when opening the door I heard noise coming from under the hood, the radio would turn on when opening the door.
2014 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TCM MALFUNCTIONED AND COULD NOT BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME COMPLETING THE WARRANTY REPAIR.
When Ford looked at my car during a recall for the locks I informed them of some problems I noted and they informed me that there were several reports with Ford Focus's concerning the Clutch and The Transmission control module. They said there were no known recalls regarding it. However my car once the RPM hits below a certain point like going to a stop light or going speeds below 35 the car starts to either drag when I accelerate or outright refuse to accelerate. This has happened on several frightening occasions on my way to and from work and almost caused an accident because of the drag. There were no lights or indications that there is a problem with the car.
Transmission service failure comes on car runs like it is going 90 miles when it's just going at 25 and the car only has 30,000 miles. The system doesn't bring any codes of what's wrong with it and it keeps on doing it. It goes away and it comes back on and acts the same way all over again
Bought this car in May 2022. After about 2 weeks the car was slipping gears and would not reverse in some cases. Had it diagnosed by the Ford dealership and was told it needed a new TCM. After a few months we managed to get the part ourselves and replace it. Now the car is shifting roughly and says complete transmission failure but will still drive. I cannot believe Ford didn't recall the part, but rather issued an extended warranty on a part that is otherwise impossible to get ahold of.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that the stalling also occurred after refueling. The contact stated the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge was not accurate. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the dealer stated that the failure could be related to the fuel tank and the fuel tank might need to be replaced. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V525000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
I purchased this vehicle in March, 2022 knowing it had been bought back by Ford from the original owner under the Lemon Law because of repeated issues of balky transmission performance or no drive and time out of service. I purchased this car from the second owner in Georgia. According to the Ford service documents obtained with the vehicle, several major repairs were performed. The vehicle performed well the time of purchase. I had confidence that Ford Motor Company had corrected the original defects. Now, 4 months after purchase, the transmission control module failed, resulting in a no drive/no start condition, two tow truck calls to remove the vehicle from precarious traffic situations adjacent to busy major highways. The Ford service writer indicates that while my vehicle is covered under Ford 's extended powertrain warranty as a result of the class action lawsuit concerning the DPS6 transmission, the current TCM replacement parts backlog is 45,000, with vehicles out of service sitting at my dealer since February, 2022. There is no question that Ford dodged the bullet by skillfully avoid a full recall to replace these failed DPS6 transmissions. What good is an extended warranty if no replacement parts are available??
When pulling into a parking space a few weeks ago all of the sudden my steering became extremely difficult, and an error code came up on the dash. I turned the car off, waited a few minutes, then turned it back on and everything was normal again. Then a week later while pulling out of my driveway it happened again. I pulled back in and shut the car off again, waited a few moments, turned it back on and it was normal again. The following Monday I took it to Crouse Ford in Taneytown, MD to have it evaluated. The service dept determined that the power steering electric rack and pinion assembly needs to be replaced. My car is a 2014 and has just under 67,000. This is not normal wear and tear, and this is definitely a safety hazard as it is extremely difficult to control the car, and there is no warning when it happens. I am very lucky the problem happened to occur while driving very slowly in a relatively safe place with no pedestrians or other vehicles in vicinity. The fact that it is a common problem in this make and model (well documented online) and has not yet been validated as a safety recall is unacceptable. This is a dangerous situation that could cause injury or death.

The contact was then informed that the part to repair the transmission was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 35-40 MPH, the vehicle decelerated and would not exceed 5 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to the nearby residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the TCM was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking and hesitated to respond while driving from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven and diagnosed that the failure was related to Ford Campaign Number: 19N08 and the clutch assembly needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the Service Campaign had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they had sent a notice of Ford Campaign Number: 19N08 in 2019; however, the contact stated that the notice was sent to the previous owner as she became the owner of the vehicle after the warranty had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
On June 27,2022 I was running errands w my car. After filling the tank w fuel my car would not go into gear! I had a hard time getting it to go into drive then it finally started to move. The car was shaking and shuttering when I tried to Accelerate. The car would not shift gears and was reved very high. It would start to drive then it wouldn’t kick into gear and was jerking all over the road. I was able to get home and call a Ford dealership. The service department said that it was probably the transmission however they couldn’t diagnose it until the end of August! I started googling issues w ford 2014 transmission which is when I found out about the class action lawsuit and issues with the faulty transmission. Apparently Ford had installed these transmission knowing that they were faulty and could cause issues while driving. Rather than issuing a recall and noticing customers of these hazardous issues they instead extended the warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles. My cars vin number is part of the cars that were installed w faulty transmissions however Ford has so many service issues my car cannot be diagnosed for at least a month and I was told that the part is on back order and will take several months to replace. I am now making payments on a car that will be out of commission for months. Had ford issued a recall I would have been able to replace this part before this issues happened and would not have lost control of the car while driving! Ford did not notify me of the issue and even when I called to explain what was going on the did not tell me of the lawsuit or the extended warranty. Had I not been off that day and running errand around the neighborhood I typically drive the highway 40+ miles to work. If I would have lost control of the car on the highway rather than a side street I would have almost certainly had an accident and possibly lost my life !
