FUEL GAUGE WILL DROP TO ZERO AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. I PAID $109 FOR FORD TO TELL ME IT WILL COST $500 TO FIX FAULTY FUEL MODULES WHICH IS KNOWN BY FORD TO BE FAULTY IN 2006. THEY WILL NOT FIX IT AT THERE COST. *TR
1. EARLY LAST YEAR, MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A TENDENCY TO LUNGE (ACCELERATE) WHEN BRAKING TOWARD A STOPLIGHT OR A PARKING SPOT. 2. THE FREQUENCY OF THE OCCURRENCE INCREASES ONCE THE VEHICLE ENGINE IS WARMED UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE OR AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN LONG DISTANCES. 3. LAST SEPTEMBER, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FORD SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. WE WERE TOLD AT THE TIME THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE, AND WE WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THAT CALL. WE WERE ALSO INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $600.00. INTERNET RESEARCH FOUND THAT THIS IS A APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, WITH SOME OWNERS REPORTING THAT THEIR VEHICLE IS NO LONGER OPERATIONAL. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO FEEL THAT FORD, LIKE TOYOTA HAS RECENTLY, SHOULD INITIATE A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AT THE VERY LEAST, THEY NEED TO MAKE THE PART AVAILABLE, SO THAT THE REPAIR CAN BE MADE. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE PART IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER 5 MPH, ALL OF THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE VEHICLE MOMENTARILY SURGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHERE VARIOUS REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 09/15/11*LJ
MY CAR IS LUNGING FORWARDS/BACKWARDS AND MY MOTOR REVS UP AT THE TIME THIS LUNGING OCCURS. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS WHILE I AM SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, STOP SIGN, OR DRIVE THRU (ANYTIME THE CAR IS ON AND MY FOOT IT ON THE BRAKE) AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AS I GO TO RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL (BEFORE PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE GAS). I HAVE TO HURRY AND PRESS THE BRAKE BACK DOWN BEFORE HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. THIS IS VERY SCARY FOR I HAVE ALMOST HIT PEOPLE WALKING IN CROSSWALKS, CARS IN PARKING LOTS, AND HAVE ALMOST RAN INTO BACK SIDE OF MY HOUSE WHERE I PARK ON A DAILY BASIS. AFTER HAVING THIS HAPPEN TO ME TODAY ON MY LUNCH, I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL BUT IT IS OR WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION. I ALSO NOTICED OTHERS HAVE HAD TO HAVE THEIR AIR CONDITIONER REPAIRED AND/OR MOTOR MOUNTS FIXED. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPAIR THE SAME EXACT THINGS, DONE BY MY DEALERSHIP. I WOULD HAVE THE LUNGING PROBLEM AND THEN IT WOULD STOP FOR A WHILE AND THEN START AGAIN. I DIDN'T REALIZE THIS UNTIL READING ABOUT OTHERS BUT I, LIKE THEM, EXPERIENCE THIS WORSE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS WHEN IT IS HOT WEATHER. OTHER THAN THIS LUNGING AND MOTOR REVVING PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN SATISFIED WITH MY CAR. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A FORD PROBLEM AND IS NOT FAIR TO THE CUSTOMERS TO HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. SEE THE OTHER 1000 COMPLAINS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD IS AWARE THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. FORD REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. THEY WANT ME TO PREPAID FOR A PART THAT IS NOT AVAILABLE. FORD HAS NO REPLACEMENT PARTS UNTIL SOMETIME IN DECEMBER. MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH HER VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAIL SAFE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE MULTIPLE FAILURES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED SINCE THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO PURCHASE THE PART FROM THE JUNK YARD. THE CONTACT REQUESTED A RENTAL VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THE REQUEST SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,200.
I WAS DRIVING THE VEH NORMAL AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE RMP JUMPS REALLY HIGH FOLLOWING THIS MY VEH SHUTS DOWN, WRENCH LIGHT COMES, AND THE FAIL SAFE ENGINE MODE DISPLAYS. ALSO, WHEN THE VEH IS PUT IN PARK AND SHUT OFF, THEN BACK ON AGAIN THE LIGHT DISAPPEARS, AND EVERYTHING APPEARS NORMAL. TODAY WOULD BE TWICE THIS HAS HAPPENED SO AFTER READING OTHER REVIEWS WITH SAME ISSUE FOUND OUT ITS THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS REPLACED. I HAVE A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL LUNGING INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO LUNG FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN BACKING OUT A PARKING SPACE ETC.. THE FIRST TIME I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT WAS ON 08/25/09. THE NEXT TIME WAS ON 09/22/09. THE DEALER ORDERED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THERE WERE SO MANY ISSUES WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ON THIS CAR THAT THEY WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE DEALER ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE FOR 5697 MILES BEFORE THE PART ARRIVED. I REQUESTED A RENTAL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT JUSTIFY A RENTAL. ON 02/08/10 MY NEW THROTTLE BODY WAS INSTALLED. TODAY IS 02/22/2012 AND I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ALL OVER AGAIN. THE FORD FREESTYLE IS BY FAR THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. I AM ON MY SECOND SET OF (REAR) BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. I HAVE HAD THE ENGINE MOUNTS REPLACED. OUR AIR CONDITIONER ONLY WORKS PROPERLY DURING THE WINTER. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS PAGES OF FORUMS WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES DEALING WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES ON THE EXACT SAME CARS. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT HAS BEEN FILED AGAINST FORD FOR THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. I HAVE PAGES OF DOCUMENTED ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND HEADLIGHTS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS A SERIOUS SURGING PROBLEM SIMILAR TO OTHER 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLES. WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, IT REVS EXTREMELY HIGH AND IT IS "EXTREMELY" DIFFICULT TO STOP. THEN WHEN YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE, IT DOES THE SAME THING GOING FORWARD. SOMETIMES IT SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. FORD DEALERS TELL ME THE NEW REVISED "THROTTLE BODY" WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL DECEMBER AND AT FULL CHARGE ($580). *TR
DURING ROUTINE DRIVING MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE'S WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED LOSING POWER. THE RPM'S WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 2000 OR THE SPEED OF THE AUTOMOBILE ABOVE 30. RESTARTING THE ENGINE DOES ON OCCASION REMOVE THE WARNING LIGHTS COMPLETELY AND THE AUTOMOBILE HAS APPARENTLY NO ILL EFFECTS. AFTER BRINGING THE AUTOMOBILE INTO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY INJECTION AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I BOUGHT A USED 2005 FORD FREESTYLE AND IT HAS BEEN A GOOD CAR UP UNTIL THE PAST 6 MONTHS. WITHIN THOSE MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET BREAK AND THE CAR, DURING STOP AND GO DRIVING, WILL RANDOMLY LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. WHEN THE CAR DECIDES TO LUNGE, EVEN WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BREAK, IT IS NOT STOPPED COMPLETELY. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAVE DONE NUMEROUS HOURS OF RESEARCH MYSELF. ALL OF THE RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE POINTS TO THE THROTTLE BODY GOING BAD, HOWEVER, FORD DENIES THAT THERE IS ANY KIND OF A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. FORD WILL HOWEVER, GLADLY CHARGE ME 600.00 TO REPLACE IT. WHEN THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE, AND RANDOM, UNCONTROLLABLE LUNGES ARE A SAFETY PROBLEM, THE DEALER SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THE DEFECTIVE PART. WITH THE HUNDREDS OF POSTS THAT I HAVE READ BY OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS, MOST OF WHICH HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST 2 YEARS, THE PART SHOULD DEFINTELY BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY FORD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. HE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE GEAR OR AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY; HOWEVER, AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE REPAIR PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER; THEREFORE, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
WE BOUGHT A NEW 2005 FORD FREESTYLE IN OCTOBER 2005. WE HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL OUR 3 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED IN OCTOBER 2008. BEGINNING IN 2009 WE BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT OUR INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD LOSE POWER. ALL DIALS WOULD GO DOWN TO ZERO, FLICKER AND THE ENTIRE PANEL WOULD BE DEAD FOR A SHORT TIME. IT HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY AND WE LIVED WITH IT FOR A YEAR BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAN LEANDRO, CA FORD DEALER, PAYING $250 FOR AN ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC IN JANUARY 2009. THE DIAGNOSTIC WHICH TOOK ALL DAY, REVEALED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN A WIRE IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH MEANT THE PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN ITS ENTIRETY ($700). NOT HAVING THE $700 TO PAY FOR THE SOLUTION I CAME HOME TO DO SOME RESEARCH. I FOUND THAT PER FORD TSB 06-17-9 ALL FORD DEALERSHIPS WERE TOLD ABOUT THIS DEFECT. IT WAS INVESTIGATED BY THE NHTSA AND BECAUSE THE PROBLEM DID NOT INVOLVE THE OPERATION OF THE EXTERIOR FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS NO RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY FORD MC IS TAKING $250 FROM ITS CUSTOMERS TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM THAT IT ALREADY KNEW ABOUT. ALSO, IF IT WERE YOUR VEHICLE, WOULD YOU BE SATISFIED IN PAYING $700 FOR A REPLACEMENT PART THAT FORD READILY ADMITS TO HAVING BEEN SOLDERED INCORRECTLY DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS? I CAN TESTIFY THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE INVOLVED HERE. WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM YOSEMITE NP AT NIGHT, ALONG STEEP MOUNTAIN ROADS, MY FAMILY OF 4 CHILDREN, MOM AND DAD NEARLY DROVE OFF THE ROAD WHEN OUR ENTIRE CABIN WENT DARK BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHUT DOWN. WE HAD TO BRAKE HARD AND CARS BEHIND US AND IN FRONT HAD TO DO THE SAME IN RESPONSE. I COULD NOT TELL HOW FAST WE WERE GOING, NOR HOW MUCH GAS WAS LEFT IN THE TANK FOR A PERIOD OF 10 MINUTES. REVERSE LIGHTS COME ON WHILST DRIVING IN FORWARD DIRECTION CAUSING DRIVERS TO BRAKE BEHIND US. THE INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE REOPENED BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS ONGOING AND WILL CAUSE LOSS OF LIFE FOR THE SAKE OF A REPLACEMENT PART THAT WAS BADLY MADE. *TR
2005 FORD FREESTYLE 3.0 LITER V6. UNCOMMANDED HIGH REVS WHICH CAN LAUNCH THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY IF ONE DOES NOT HAVE THEIR FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE. PROBLEM IN LINKED TO THE AUTOTHROTTLE BODY. ALSO ACTIVATES ENGINE LIGHT. PART ON ORDER, HOWEVER FORD HAS PUSHED BACK THE DATE OF SUPPLY OF PART SEVERAL TIMES. I BELIEVE THAT THE PART SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY REASONS DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF ACCIDENT BY THE CAR'S UNCOMMANDED HIGH REVOLUTIONS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF THE CAR LURCHING FORWARD OR BACK AND IMPACTING AN OBJECT. *TR
FORD FREESTYLE 2005 LIMITED EDITION THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACEMENT HOWEVER PART WAS BACK ORDERED FOR 6 MONTHS AND NOW THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT PART. I HAD A HEATED THROTTLE BODY THAT I PAID FOR ON THE CAR AND NOW THEY ARE SWITCHING IT TO A NON HEATED. SO IF I GO TO THE SNOW IM SOL. *TR
CAR WOULD HESITATE WHEN PUSHING ON GAS PEDAL, THEN SUDDENLY CATCH AND ACCELERATE AFTER SOME TIME PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. HAD IT CHECKED PREVIOUSLY WITH THE SUGGESTION TO REPLACE FUEL FILTER. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, PROBLEM GOT WORSE, ANOTHER SERVICE STATION FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WAS BAD. HAD IT REPLACED AT A COST OF $672.33 PARTS AND LABOR. FOUND OUT THIS PROBLEM IS SHARED BY MANY FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS, CHECKED WITH LOCAL FORD DEALER IF A RECALL HAD BEEN DONE OR A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, WAS TOLD NOT AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME ABOUT IT. *TR
AT VARIOUS TIMES THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD WHILE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE (PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, INTO A PARKING LOT, IDLING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC). FAILURE STARTED OCCURRING AROUND 40,000 MILES. 8/2009 VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. TOWED TO REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WITH A USED ONE AS A NEW PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE (APPARENTLY WAS IN A REDESIGN PHASE) WE ARE NOW (7/2010) EXPERIENCING THE SAME SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS WE HAD PRIOR TO IT SHUTTING DOWN IN AUGUST OF 2009. *TR
THE CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS IN LAS VEGAS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE SPEED WENT DOWN AND I COULD CONTROL THE SPEED ("FAILED ENGINE SAFE MODE" APPEARED IN THE PANEL). I PARKED THE VEHICLE, TURNED IT OFF AND RE-STARTED IT. THE PROBLEM DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. ON MY WAY BACK, TOOK IT TO FAIRWAY FORD IN PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, AIR INTAKE AND ENGINE ROLL RESTRICTOR. CAR WAS OK UNTIL 6/6/14 WITH 65,330 MILES WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AROUND MY HOUSE, TOOK IT TO FAIRWAY FORD AND IT WAS RECALL 12N03 ON THE VEHICLE (NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD), THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND RE-PROGRAMMED THE PCM. 2 MOS. LATER, 8/28/14 SAME THING HAPPENED, AND FAIRWAY FORD TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AGAIN AND I HAVE TO PAY $860. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 800-392-3673, TALKED TO [XXX] AND SHE SAID I COULD GET ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. I ESCALATED THE SITUATION, AND A SUPERVISOR WILL CALL ME BACK ON TUESDAY 9/2/14. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY I COULD GET REAR ENDED AND BE KILLED. THERE WERE NO REAL EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, IT JUST HAPPENED ALL OF A SUDDEN OUT OF THE BLUE. I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL W/ MY 2 CHILDREN, AND 3 OTHER SMALL CHILDREN. I PULLED OUT AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS IT WENT AND THEN STARTED JUMPING AND STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I FINALLY GOT IT TO GO, BUT WAS ALMOST HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY LISTED IT AS A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS PART IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER AND THEY MADE ME DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND DID NOT OFFER ME A RENTAL CAR. IT HAS BEEN 6 DAYS AND I STILL HAVE ATLEAST 2 MORE BEFORE I FIND OUT IF I WILL GET A RENTAL CAR. SHE RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD WHEN SHE SHIFTED INTO "DRIVE", THE "WRENCH LIGHT" CAME ON "INDICATING ENGINE OPERATING IN SAFE MODE". SHE NOTED A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AND BALKY RESPONSE. SHE RECOGNIZED THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM AND IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE CAR TO OUR MECHANICS GARAGE. THE GARAGE IN QUESTION, AN INDEPENDENT, DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A "THROTTLE BODY" ISSUE AND HAS DETERMINED THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS THE MECHANIC ALSO EXPERIENCED THE CAR SURGING FORWARD. TO DATE, THE GARAGE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE REPLACEMENT PARTS AND I'M BEING TOLD BY FORD CUSTOMER CARE SOLUTION CENTER THAT NEEDED PARTS ARE ON "NATIONAL BACK-ORDER". IN THE MEANTIME, MY VEHICLE REMAINS UNDRIVEABLE AND IS SITTING AWAITING PARTS THAT MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR WEEKS OR PERHAPS MONTHS. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE FOLLOWED BY THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE, CHECK TRANSMISSION AND THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. EACH TIME, THE CONTACT WOULD SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NO LONGER OPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000. UPDATED 10/21/10. LJ THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING INTERNAL FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSON. WE TOOK IT IN AND LEFT IT FOR REPAIR. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THAT WE HAD A WALMART AIR FILTER, AND IT NEEDED A FORD AIR FILTER. THEY TRIED TO SAY THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. BUT BEFORE WE GOT THE CAR BACK, WE RECEIVED A POST CARD FROM THE DEALER SAYING OUR COMPUTER MODULE THAT WAS ORDERED FROM THE DEALER HAS ARRIVED. SO THE DEALER TOLD US IT WAS THE AIR FILTER WHEN IN FACT IT WAS THE COMPUTER MODULE. WE BELEIVE THE DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER MODULE BUT TOLD US IT WAS THE AIR FILTER TO AVOID A COSTLY RECALL. I HAVE FOUND ON THIS WEBSITE THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS RECALLED IT CERTAIN PARTS OF THE USA FOR THIS REASON BUT NOT IN OUR REGION. THE RECALL WAS DUE BECAUSE IN WARMER CLIMATES THIS PROBLEM MAY OCCUR. ALL OF THIS VEHICLES SHOULD BE REPAIRED, BECAUSE SOMEONE WITH THIS VEHICLE MAY TRAVEL TO AREAS THAT ARE WARMER THAN OTHER DURING BUSINESS TRIPS OR VACATION TRIPS. *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE BUT INSTEAD, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE FAILURE ALSO RECURRED WHILE IN REVERSE WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

MY CAR HAS A SERIOUS LUNGING PROBLEM. IT DOES IT MAINLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE, BUT ALSO WHEN IN REVERSE. I HAVE HIT POSTS AND OTHER STATIONARY OBJECTS A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND HAVE MULTIPLE NEAR MISSES OF HITTING OTHER CARS. AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE SUCH AS WHEN IN THE DRIVE-THRU AT MCDONALDS OR OTHER FAST FOOD PLACES, WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED MANY TIMES WHEN I AM SITTING AT STOP LIGHTS OR WAITING TO MAKE A TURN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER A COUPLE TIMES AND ASKED IF THEY COULD CHECK IT OUT, ALWAYS BEING TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WHEN FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. ALMOST GOT HIT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. CAR THEN IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO FAILSAFE MODE AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS DETERMINED THAT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO REPLACED. THEN WAS TOLD A WEEK LATER THAT THE PART WAS BACKORDERED AND WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR OVER 90 DAYS. DEALER THEN TOLD ME IT WAS OK TO DRIVE. NO WAY I'M PUTTING MY FAMILY IN THIS CAR WHICH COULD GAS FORWARD ON IT'S OWN AS IT IS A DRIVE BY WIRE SYSTEM. MANY PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEMS. FORD EVEN HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM--TSB 05-25-13. SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO VOLVO'S WHICH USE SAME PARTS. HOPEFULLY MORE REPORTS OF THIS WILL CAUSE FORD TO RECALL THE PART! AND ALSO AFTER EVERY TWO FILL UPS THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT GOES BAD. *TR

I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE JUST BOUGHT IT LAST YEAR AND IT HAS BEEN AT BOB BELL FORD FOR OVER A WEEK. I WAS AT THE BEACH AND THE CAR STALLED TWICE AND WENT IN TO A FAIL SAFE MODE. I TOOK IT TO BOB BELL FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WAS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL NOVEMBER 2009. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD COME PICK UP MY CAR AND IF IT BREAKS DOWN THEY WILL COME GET ME. NOT THINKING THAT I COULD BE INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT IF IT STALLS WELL DRIVING. I HAVE CALLED HEADQUARTERS TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO FOR ME AS FAR AS A RENTAL AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THAT LENGTH OF TIME. THIS ALL HAS TO DO WITH THE PLANTS BEING SHUT DOWN AND PARTS NO BEING MADE. SOMEONE JUST BOUGHT A NEW GM CAMARO AND HAD TO SIGN A WAIVER STATING THAT IF THE CAR BREAKS DOWN THEY COULD HAVE TO WAIT 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR TO GET PARTS AND THEY ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING THE PAYMENT. THE PART THAT I NEED IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME CAR ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS PART. JUST LOOKING TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE BECAUSE I CAN NOT GO WITHOUT A CAR UNTIL NOVEMBER. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND I WORK 2 JOBS TO SUPPORT MY FAMILY. WITHOUT A CAR HOE AM I SUPPOSED TO GET BACK TO WORK.
