2006 FORD FREESTYLE LUNGES WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS IS UNPREDICTABLE AND RANDOM. IT HAPPENS IN REVERSE AND DRIVE. *TT
ON 7/8/11, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SUDDENLY LUNGED SEVERAL FEET BACKWARDS. I NARROWLY MISSED HITTING THE CAR BEHIND ME AND THANK GOODNESS THERE WAS NO ONE WALKING IN THE LOT BEHIND ME. THE CAR THEN DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARKING LOT. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND AFTER A COUPLE MORE SHORT FORWARD LUNGES, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT THE 1 MILE BACK TO MY HOME. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD SERVICE PLACE WHERE THEY SAID IT NEEDS THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THEY SAID THEY CAN JUST CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT IT WOULD BE A TEMPORARY FIX, SO I AM HAVING IT REPLACED. MY BILL IS APPROXIMATELY $850. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED TO FIND ONLINE THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. APPARENTLY IT HAS CAUSED A HANDFUL OF ACCIDENTS ALREADY AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. A CAR THAT LUNGES OUT OF CONTROL EITHER FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION! I WILL SAVE MY RECEIPT FROM MY AUTO REPAIRS BECAUSE WHEN A RECALL IS EVENTUALLY ISSUED, I AM HOPING I CAN GET REIMBURSED. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD FOR ALLOWING THIS KNOWN AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM TO CONTINUE. *TT
I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SEL. LAST WEEK WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND STOPPED ON A SIGNAL LIGHT, MY CAR RUN OUT OF POWER. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RE-START IT AND DROVE IT IN A PARKING AREA NEARBY UPON SEEING A "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A WRENCH LIGHT ON MY DASH MONITOR. AS I WAS BACKING OFF FROM WHERE I PARK THE CAR, THE CAR SURGE WITHOUT ME HITTING THE GAS PEDAL AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE LOST ITS POWER ALTOGETHER, HENCE I NEEDED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AGAIN. I NOTICED THAT THIS THING HAPPENED WHEN MY AC IS ON. I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO A NEARBY FORD DEALER FOR CHECKUP. I WAS INFORMED THAT I NEEDED TO CHANGE THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND THE THROTTLE BODY COSTING $1,200. I NOTICED THIS ENGINE SURGE AND LOSS OF POWER ON MY VEHICLE BEFORE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BUT I DID NOT GIVE MUCH IMPORTANCE TO IT UNTIL THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" FLASHED INTO MY DASH MONITOR THE OTHER DAY. I AM NOW FILING THIS COMPLAINT UPON SEEING A LOT OF FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED SIMILAR PROBLEMS AS I DO. I DO HOPE THAT YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY CONCERNS AND COME UP WITH THE BEST SOLUTION THE SOONEST POSSIBLE TIME. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE AND EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY WHILE CHANGING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AT TWO SEPARATE LOCATIONS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT GIVEN A REASON AS TO WHY THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
I EXPERIENCED AN UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I WASN'T PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR EITHER MOVING FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. AN INCREASE IN THE RPMS IS EVIDENT IN BOTH BUT WORSE IN REVERSE. WHEN STOPPING AT THE LIGHT AND GEAR IS IN "D", AFTER A FULL STOP, THE ENGINE INCREASES THE RPMS. WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKES TO START MOVING AGAIN, THE CAR ABRUPTLY MOVES WITHOUT PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR. IN REVERSE, WITH BRAKES LIGHTLY APPLIED, THE ENGINE INCREASES THE RPMS MORE DRAMATICALLY THAN IN FORWARD. IT IS EVEN WORSE IF YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, IN MY CASE, TO THE LEFT. YOU HAVE TO APPLY FIRMLY THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR FROM MOVING WITHOUT CONTROL BUT THE RPMS STILL RUNNING HIGH. ONE OF THE TIMES, EVEN WHEN APPLYING FIRMLY THE BRAKES, THE CAR STILL MOVED UP TO THE POINT THAT IT SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. THAT HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR. THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. WE PARK THE CAR INSIDE OUR GARAGE AND IT BECAME UNSAFE TO PULL IN AND OUT AS SPACE IS TIGHT AND YOU COULD HIT THE WALLS OR MY OTHER CAR OR THE KIDS. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AND HOW SEVERE THE SUDDEN INCREASE IN SPEED WILL BE. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY THAT FAILED AND CHANGED IT. MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE STARTED ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN (MY FOOT NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL) WHEN IN REVERSE ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. RECENTLY IT HAS STARTED ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN IN BOTH THE DRIVE AND REVERSE AND IT WILL LUNGE ANYWHERE FROM 1 TO 6 FEET. APPLYING THE BRAKE DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE MUCH MORE FIRMLY THAN USUAL TO GET THE ACCELERATION TO STOP. *TR
FORD 2006 FREESTYLE IS ACCELERATING ON IT OWN IN REVERSE AND DRIVE. I DO NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS .THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD AND THEN STALLS. *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED A SURGE WHERE THE CAR WILL MOVE WITH YOUR FOOT ON OR OFF THE BRAKE WHILE SITTING STILL. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHENEVER I HAVE THE A/C ON OR WHEN I AM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE PROBLEM IS MORE SERIOUS WHEN I AM BACKING INTO MY GARAGE AND THE CAR SURGES BACKWARD WHICH ALMOST CAUSES ME TO HIT THE BACK WALL OF MY GARAGE. THE MOST SERIOUS INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN THE CAR STARTED SURGING WHILE I WAS BACKING UP AT WORK AND THE CAR HIT THE BUILDING. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE BUT COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS IF MY FOOT WAS NOT ALREADY COVERING THE BRAKE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK THE CAR IN. THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR HAD A BAD MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WITH A CODE OF (P061B) AND (P2106) THEY ALSO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS EXTREMELY CARBONED UP AND SUGGESTED THE THROTTLE BUTTERFLY WAS NOT MOVING FREELY DUE TO THE CARBON. I PAID TO HAVE IT CLEANED AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY MAY NEED REPLACEMENT IN THE FUTURE.
I PURCHASED MY FORD FREESTYLE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND BEGAN STRUGGLING ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WITH THE CAR LUNGING FORWARD (OR BACKWARD) UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN AT A STOP. IF MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE, MY ENGINE RACES AS IF THE CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND IS OVERRIDING MY WILL TO REMAIN STATIONERY, AND GREATLY INCREASES THE RPM'S . IF MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE OR IS LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD (OR BACKWARD IF IN REVERSE), PUTTING PEDESTRIANS OR CARS IN OUR PATH AT RISK OF BEING RUN OVER. PLEASE ADVISE AS TO HOW TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAS AN ISSUE WHERE THE RPM STAYS AT 1500 ALLOWING MY VEHICLE TO MOVE AT SPEEDS OF 25 - 30 MPH WITH MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL. WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE RPM WAS AT 1500 THEN DROPPED ALL OF A SUDDEN CAUSING THE ENGINE TO ALMOST STALL. THE RPMS THEN JUMPED UP AGAIN TO AVOID THE ENGINE STALL CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD. IN RESEARCHING POSSIBLE CAUSES ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT MANY FORD OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR). I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DESPITE THE NUMEROUS CONSUMER COMPLAINTS, THERE WAS NO RECALL OR NO ISSUE REPORTED RELATED TO THIS SERIOUS ACCELERATION ISSUE. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALER, HAVE IT REPAIRED, AND IF FORD DECIDED TO PUT OUT A RECALL THAT I MAY BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS ISSUE. MY CONCERN WITH FORD'S APPROACH IS THAT IF EVERY OWNER PAYS FOR THIS REPAIR WITHOUT ANYONE IN THE CONSUMER SAFETY BOARD BEING MADE AWARE OF THIS THAT THERE WILL BE NO RECALL. SOMEONE COULD GET INJURED OR KILLED WITH SUCH A SERIOUS VEHICLE DEFECT. *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE WANTS LUNGES EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED AND ALSO IN REVERSE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO FIND, AND FIX PROBLEM... *TR
I WAS BACKING UP AND MY CAR UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THANKFULLY NOBODY WAS BEHIND ME, JUST THE POLE. MY BUMPER HAS A GOUGE IN IT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME MY FREESTYLE SURGED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND I EXPECT AT SOME POINT IN TIME, FORD OR NHTSA WILL CERTAINLY HAVE TO FIX/RECALL THIS VEHICLE. I HAD MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON MULTIPLE OCCASION FOR THIS. THEY KEEP REPLACING PARTS, BUT THEY ARE NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE WILL SURGE WHEN CAR IS PUT IN REVERSE AND PULLING INTO PARKING SPACES - NEED TO QUICKLY APPLY BRAKES TO PREVENT CRASHING INTO SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. HAVE NOT HAD VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR - AFRAID OF HOW MUCH I WILL NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET - AND WILL IT ACTUALLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM??? 82,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. WAS CONSIDERING GIVING IT TO OUR 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO RECENTLY RECEIVED HER DRIVING LICENSE, BUT DON'T WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE GIVING HER A VEHICLE SHE LITERALLY CANNOT CONTROL WITH THE NEWLY ACQUIRED DRIVING SKILLS UNDER HER BELT. AS A SEASONED DRIVER, I FEEL VERY UNEASY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN SLOWING TO ENTER A PARKING SPACE OR ON EXIT FROM A PARKING SPACE THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY IDLE / REV UP TO A HIGH SPEED RPM AND QUICKLY ACCELERATE FORWARD. THIS WOULD TEND TO OCCUR WHEN YOU ARE MOVING BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE BRAKE, THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT CONTROL. THIS REQUIRED THE DRIVER TO SLAM ON THE BREAK TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM HITTING ADJACENT CARS, PEDESTRIANS AND CURB. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP AT CONTROLLED INTERSECTIONS. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AND AT HIGHER ALTITUDES. THE PROBLEM HAS CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL AND TO TRIGGER A COMPUTER FAULT THAT LIMITED THE FUNCTION OF THE TRANSMISSION. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN CLEARED THE ERROR.
ENGINE REVS AND VEHICLE LURCHES WHILE PLACING THE CAR IN REVERSE, EVEN WITH FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKES. APPEARS TO BE WORSE WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. VEHICLE HAS LOST VIRTUALLY ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, YOU CAN FLOOR THE GAS PEDDLE BUT THE VEHICLE WON'T GO OVER 10-15MPH. PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNING VEHICLE OFF, WAITING 15 SECONDS OR SO, THEN RESTARTING, SEEMS TO RESET THE VEHICLE TO A MORE FUNCTIONAL LEVEL. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS AN EXTENSIVE EXHAUST SMELL AND IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE SHOP FOR A $566 REPAIR FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC EXAM AND THAT DIAGNOSIS INDICATING THAT THE EGR VALVE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED FORD AND THEY DO NOT HAVE A CURRENT RECALL FOR THE EGR VALVE, OR THROTTLE BODY-WHICH SEEMS TO BE A CORRELATED PROBLEM WITHIN THE TWO. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WITH MY YOUNG FAMILY. THE CVT STOPPED WORKING. I LOST POWER TO THE GAS PEDDLE. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. IT DOES THIS ALOT NOW. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WAS VERY LUCKY TO BE A FIREFIGHTER WITH EMERGENCY DRIVING SKILLS. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE VEHICLE ALSO LUNGES FORWARD WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE.I BELIEVE A RECALL IS IN ORDER. *TR
WHEN DRIVING MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WHEN RUNNING THE AIR CONDITIONING, THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGE EITHER IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THIS IN YET TO BE LOOKED AT, BUT IS SEEMING TO WORSEN. I AM IN FEAR FOR MY CHILDREN, FAMILY AND WHOM EVER HAPPENS TO CROSS THE PATH OF THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT "ACTS UP". I HAVE EVEN HAD IT HAPPEN AT STOP SIGNS AND RED LIGHTS. I AM AFRAID MY CAR WILL RUN SOMEONE OVER OR RAM INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AT ITS DISCRETION. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM LONG TERM. ON SATURDAY, JULY 2, 2011 WE HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES TO OUR DESTINATION WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED ACTING UP AT A STOP. I WAS IDLING AT A STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY INCREASED RPMS TO 3 ' 4K. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TO GET IT TO STOP. THE INDICATOR LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH AND AN ENGINE CAME ON DURING THIS TIME. I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME STARTING THE VEHICLE SHORTLY AFTER TUNING IT OFF. THE TEMPERATURE ON THAT DAY WAS RIGHT AT 100 DEGREES AND I HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING WHILE DRIVING AND AT THE STOP WHEN THIS OCCURED. *KB

ALSO CAR REVVED WHILE DRIVING AND COULD NOT GO OVER 40MPH WITHOUT THE ENGINE REVVING TO OVER 5,000 RPM. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL UPON RESTART. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING A RECURRING FAILURE IN WHICH IT WOULD MOMENTARILY SURGE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. UPDATED 08/01/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD AN ACCIDENT LAST YEAR IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SURGED WHEN IT WAS PLACED INTO GEAR. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED IN 2011. UPDATED 01/30/12

WHEN MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SITS PARKED RUNNING WITH AIR ON I PUT IT IN REVERSE OR DRIVE AND THE RPMS REV UP OVER 2,000 AND WHEN I HIT BRAKES WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. MY HUSBAND READ THE CODES AND TALKED TO A FORD MECHANIC AND SAID IT A BAD THROTTLE BODY. WHEN THE CAR REVS UP IT TRIES TO LUNG FORWARD OR BACKWARD QUICKLY. THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACEMENT. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IS LURCHING WHEN I DO NOT HAVE THE ACCELERATOR PRESSED. IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN REVERSE, BUT HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COMPLETELY STALLED. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT COMES ON BUT WHEN YOU SHUT OFF THE MOTOR AND RESTART IT IS USUALLY FINE AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES OVER THE LAST THREE MONTHS. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WAS ACCELERATING WHEN I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT A STOP SIGN. IT DOES NOT GAS WHEN I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT STALLED A FEW TIMES AND WHEN I HAVE THE CAR IN REVERSE IT ACCELERATES WITHOUT ME EVEN PRESSING ON THE GAS. MY WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON IN MY DASH AS WELL. I TOOK IT TO PEPBOYS AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY SENSOR WAS BAD AND I NEEDED SPARK PLUGS AND A VACUUM HOSE..AFTER SPENDING $700, NEEDLESS TO SAY THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATING STILL EXISTS AND THERE IS ALSO A HUMMING NOISE WHILE DRIVING AND THE STEERING IS VERY HARD TO MANEUVER. I TOOK IT BACK TO PEPBOYS AND THEY SAID IT IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO FORD TO GET IT FIXED. *TR UPDATED 03/23/12 *BF
THE CAR HAS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS LUNGED FORWARD WHILE IN DRIVE WITH A FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE. IT WAS OCCURRING SOMEWHAT INTERMITTENTLY; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE CAR USED TO ONLY JUMP FORWARD WHILE IN DRIVE, BUT NOW ALSO LUNGES BACKWARD WHILE IN REVERSE. IT HAS ALSO STARTED TO POWER OFF AFTER LUNGING, WHICH CAN MAKE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, AND SOMETIMES ALL OF THE LIGHTS COME ON AFTER DYING WHILE TRYING TO START THE CAR BACK UP. THE CAR HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS AND HAS NEARLY PULLED INTO TRAFFIC WHILE TRYING TO EXIT A PARKING LOT AT POINTS. THIS CAR HAS BECOME A DEATH TRAP VERY QUICKLY. *TR
THE CAR WAS LOSING/GAINING ACCELERATION, RMP'S WOULD INCREASE BUT THE SPEED WAS NOT THERE. THE ENGINE LIGHT, A WRENCH LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS APPEARED AND DISAPPEARED. THE CAR WAS SLAMMING INTO GEAR WHEN TAKING IT OUT OF GEAR OR REVERSE. I TOOK MY CAR TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER. THEY STATED THEY NEEDED TO CLEAN THE VALVES AND REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS SERVICE WAS $995.00. THEN FORD SERVICE STATED THAT THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT THE CAR NEEDED THE SERVICE. NOW THE NEXT SERVICE THEY WANT TO PERFORM IS WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $1500 NOT KNOWING IF THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ACCELERATING ALL BY ITSELF AND I HAVE TO QUICKLY STEP ON THE BRAKE TO STOP IT. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. THE LAST TIME, I HAD 4 CHILDREN IN MY VEHICLE ON A VERY HOT DAY AND IT HAPPENED AS I WAS WAITING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BUT IT WAS VERY SCARY. UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM - SOME HAVE EVEN HAD ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF IT.

WHILE STARTING MY CAR AND ATTEMPTING TO BACK UP, IT STARTED SPUTTERING, WOULDN'T REVERSE, AND THEN THE ENGINE REVED AND IT LURCHED BACKWARDS. I IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKE AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE ENGINE ALTERED BETWEEN SPUTTERING, LUNGING, AND THEN IT REVED ON IT ITS OWN WHILE IN PARK AND WITH NO ACCELERATION. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, WAITED A MINUTE, AND STARTED IT AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH NO PROBLEM. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER, THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PULL FORWARD IN A PARKING LOT BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE KEPT STALLING. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE AUTO DEALER WHO TRIED RECALIBRATING A COMPUTER SENSOR BUT WARNED THAT IT "MAY BE THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THAT WOULD BE VERY UNUSUAL." AFTER ANOTHER INCIDENT, THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY (THIS PAST MONDAY) BUT SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT, THIS TIME LEAVING US STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOUR LANE ROAD. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT TURNING OFF AND THEN TURNING ON THE CAR, WE WERE ABLE TO HOBBLE TO A PARKING LOT WHERE WE TURNED OFF THE CAR AND SAT FOR 5 MINUTES. IT WAS THEN FINE, AND WE DROVE HOME. WE DID NOTICE THAT THE A/C WOULD CUT IN AND OUT ON ITS OWN DURING THE 30 MINUTE TRIP HOME. IT IS THE SHOP AGAIN AS I WRITE THIS.

THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS USUALLY IN THE 90'S OR ABOVE, I USUALLY HAVE THE AIR-CONDITIONING RUNNING, AND THE CAR WILL START TO LOOSE POWER WITH THE TACHOMETER VISIBLY DIPPING DOWN TO ZERO. THE CAR WILL THEN SUDDENLY RACE TO 2000 RPMS, AND THE CAR WILL LUNGE BACKWARD (OR FORWARD) WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN REVERSE, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO APPLY THE BRAKE HARD ENOUGH TO STOP MOVEMENT.
