THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY SURGE EVEN WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS. SOMETIMES EVEN WHEN WE ARE BRAKING. HAS NOT ACTUALLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET BUT WORRIED IT COULD. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AT ONE POINT (JONES WEST FORD) BUT THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM AND WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING. THE RESET THE COMPUTER ON THE CAR AND THOUGHT THAT WOULD MAYBE HELP BUT IT STILL CONTINUES TO THIS DAY AND THAT HAS PROBABLY BEEN CLOSE IF NOT MORE THAN 2 YEARS AGO. I HAVE READ THAT PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SIMILAR TYPE OF PROBLEM ALTHOUGH MY SISTER WHO HAS A 1995 HAS NOT SO IT MUST NOT BE IN EVERY ONE THAT WAS MADE. *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE REAR BRAKES NEED REPLACEMENT AGAIN! HAD BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED AT 16,000 MILES ON RECALL, PRESENTLY VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 29,000 MILES AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEED REPLACEMENT AGAIN. *TR
I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND IT SURGES FORWARD FROM IDLE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED TWO TSBS (TSB 05-25-12 AND 06-21-1) BUT DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY RECALL. THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY PART WHICH FORD DOES NOT HAVE IN STOCK. I AM NOT SURE WHY THIS WAS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL BY FORD AS IT IS QUITE DANGEROUS. *TR
OUR FREESTYLE HAS A REPEATED TENDENCY TO SURGE FORWARD FROM STOP WITH NO APPLICATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. LAST YEAR WHEN WE TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. THE PROBLEM HAS SINCE GOTTEN REPEATEDLY WORSE AND WE HAVE SURGED INTO OTHER CARS WHEN TRYING TO LEAVE A PARKING SPACE. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT CONSISTENT, BUT IT OCCURS ON A REGULAR BASIS; SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. *TR
ISSUES WITH THROTTLE BODY , THE WRENCH LIGHT HAS COME ON MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS(UNDER 45MPH) THE CAN WILL RANDOMLY LURCH AT LOW SPEEDS , HAVING THE AIR CONDITIONER ON SEEMS TO MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE . THE WAY THE CAR JOLTS AND JUMPS IS UNPREDICTABLE AND MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE . THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR , AND AFTER YEARS AND MANY TRIPS TO THE FORD DEALER THE PROBLEM WILL STOP FOR ONLY A FEW DAYS OR FEW MONTHS AND THEN THE SAME PROBLEM STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. ALSO OTHER OWNERS OF FORD FREESTYLES MADE EITHER IN2005 OR 2006 HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCES THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED. I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND I NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. MY CAR CONTINUES TO SHUT OFF OR LUNGE IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. I SPOKE WITH FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THE MANUFACTURE THAT MAKES THE PART FOR MY CAR HAS GONE OUT OF BUSINESS AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO GET THE PART...THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT I WILL BE UNABLE TO GET A LOANER CAR WHILE MINE IS SITTING THERE NOT DRIVABLE. FORD HAS SOLD ME A CAR THAT I CANNOT FIX AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE...THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME A LOANER. THERE HAS BEEN RECORDS OF OVER 200 OF THESE CASES IN WHICH THIS STYLE VEHICLE HAS HAD THESE PROBLEMS AND IT DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL LISTED. IF I DO FIND THE PART IT WILL COST ME $1,000 OR MORE TO FIX DEPENDING ON THE COST OF THE THROTTLE. *TR
WHEN COASTING OR IDLING CAR SUDDENLY LURCHES FORWARD. *TT
BOUGHT CAR USED, CERTIFIED, BUT NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THAT CAR WOULD LUNGE BACKWARDS WHEN I WOULD GO TO BACK UP. FORD FOUND NO PROBLEM. PROBLEM CONTINUED FOR NUMEROUS MONTHS AND THEN AT ABOUT 56,000 MILES ISSUE ESCALATED. NOW CAR LUNGES FORWARD OR REVERSE, MOVING ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 8 FEET. AT TIMES IT FEELS LIKE PRESSURE IS BEING PUSHED FROM THE BRAKE UP, TO MY FOOT......PUSHING IT OFF THE BRAKE. PROBLEM IS WORSE THE MORE CAR IS DRIVEN THAT DAY, AND SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOSTLY WHEN AC IS ON. BUT IN THE EARLY DAYS OF ISSUE AIR WAS NOT ALWAYS ON. IF SOMEONE WALKS IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME WHEN THIS HAPPENS THEY WOULD CERTAINLY BE INJURED.

THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING AND SPORADICALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES AND THE OCCURRENCES WERE NORMAL FOR THE PARTICULAR VEHICLE. THE DEALER DID NOT PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC BUT ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD PRODUCE GREATER RPMS WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, THE SUV LUNGING FORWARD WHEN IN DRIVE OR IF YOUR IN REVERSE IT DOES IT TO. I ALSO HAVE A FAIL SAFE ISSUES THE LITTLE WRENCH LITE COMES ON AND ACTS LIKE IT'S GOING TO DIE, AND WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY OFF AND WAIT A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN RESTART THE CAR IT IS FINE. I DRIVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 38 DAYS NOT. THEIR HAS BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS CAR DUE TO THE FACT IT IS STALLING IN MID DRIVE. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND MAY NOT BE IN UNTIL LATE SEPTEMBER. THIS VEHICLE IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND I FEAR HAVING AN ACCIDENT DO TO THE SUDDEN SURGING. I HAVE ALSO FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ON-LINE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE WITH THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, IT WOULD EXHIBIT A LOUD NOISE AND STALL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE ENGINE OF MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SUDDENLY REVS UP TO 1500 TO 2000 RPM FROM IDLE, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE FIRMLY. THIS HAPPENS ANY TIME, BUT MORE OFTEN WITH THE AC ON. I HAD TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL TO PREVENT HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. *TR
I OWN A FORD 2006 FREESTYLE THAT ACCELERATES BY ITSELF WHEN IN REVERSE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. THIS PART FAILED IN ALMOST EVERY FORD FREESTYLE FOR 2005/6/7 SINCE FORD WAS MFG. DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY PARTS. THE PART IS NOW ON NATIONAL BACKORDER, AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT REPORTED ALMOST GETTING KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THIS DEFECTIVE PART CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO GO DEAD OR THE CAR TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL. THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE PART UNTIL DECEMBER, AND FORD DOES NOT HAVE IT ON RECALL. MY DEALER, MAROONE FORD, EXPECTS ME TO PAY $950.00 FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PART, WHICH THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE AND CAN'T GET UNTIL AFTER SEPTEMBER. IN THE MEANTIME, I HAVE POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER FROM BEING IN 2 CAR ACCIDENTS. I BOUGHT THE FORD FREESTYLE BECAUSE I WAS TOLD IT IS A SAFE CAR. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF ANYONE THAT GETS IN THE CAR WITH ME NOW. I HAVE NO OTHER CAR TO DRIVE. I AM VERY WORRIED AND UPSET. I HAVE BEEN SENDING LETTER TO FORD CORP. ON 4 OCCASIONS THIS SUMMER I HAD MY ENGINE SURGE WHILE I WAS MANEUVERING IN A PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE RACED AND LUCKILY I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE EACH TIME SO I WAS ABLE TO AVOID SMACKING INTO SOMETHING. ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS THE ENGINE LOST CONSIDERABLE POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN RESTARTED IT. AT RESTART THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY AGAIN. I'M TOLD THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE PROBABLY NEEDS A NEW THROTTLE BODY BUT THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TPKE AND SUDDENLY LOST SPEED. WENT FROM 70MPH TO 35MPH. MY WIFE AND I NEARLY HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. STOPPED ON THE SIDE IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN, WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER WHO FIRST COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. EVERY NOW AND THEN I WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OCCUR, BUT AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIND IT ON THE COMPUTER. ONE DAY THAT HAPPENED, I DROVE FOR A GOOD 20 MIN AT 30MPH TO GET TO THE DEALER WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT ON SO THEY CAN DIAGNOSE IT AND NOT MAKE ME LOOK LIKE I AM CRAZY. THEY FINALLY GOT THE CODE AND SAID I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT COSTS $6,000. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON FOR A WHILE AFTER THAT WHENEVER I ACCELERATED A LITTLE, AND I WOULD LOOSE POWER AGAIN. NOW WHENEVER I START THE CAR, THE WRENCH LIGHT IS ON AND IT IS DIFFICULT AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH THE LIGHT ON BEFORE I TURN OFF THE ENGINE SO I CAN HAVE IT GO AWAY WHEN I START THE CAR AGAIN. THE SITUATION IS GETTING WORSE, AND FORD DEALER PERSON I SPOKE TO SAYS THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ SO MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND YOU MIGHT HELP WITH A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE PROBLEM WAS REMEDIED BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY, AFTER A FOUR-MONTH" BACKORDERED" WAIT. *TR
2005 FORD FREESTYLE CAR ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE CHANGING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IN PARKING LOT GOT CAR TO GO AFTER DRIVING A FEW BLOCKS CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE FROM A RED LIGHT . AN INVESTIGATION WILL REVEAL THIS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE WITH NO CORRECTIVE ACTION FROM FORD. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE IN THE REVERSE GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED TO COVER HALF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.

I HAVE A 2006 FREESTYLE. 2 YEARS AGO I HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED DUE TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION THAT GOT TO BE DANGEROUS. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT NOW I AM AGAIN HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AIR IS ON. I NOW HAVE A TEEN DRIVING AND I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR HER WELFARE. 2006 FORD FREESTYLE LOSS OF THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ON HIGHWAY DURING TRAFFIC. HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART TO RESET. HAPPENS RANDOMLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. FORD SAYS IT IS A THROTTLE BODY UNIT FAILURE, BUT CAN DO NOTHING SINCE THE PART IS BACK ORDERED FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAS BEEN FOR OVER A YEAR. TWO TSB'S OVER THE COURSE OF TWO YEARS, BUT NO RECALL ON A PART THEY CANNOT EVEN KEEP IN STOCK FOR OVER TWO YEARS DUE TO THE CONSTANT FAILURE. NOW MY WIFE AND FAMILY ARE IN DANGER EVERY TIME THEY DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THE PART IS AVAILABLE WHICH IS ALWAYS CHANGING AND NEVER A FIRM DATE. *TR
MY FAMILY'S 2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAS SURGED FROM AN IDLING POSITION ON TWO OCCASIONS: AUGUST 2009 AND MAY 2010. BOTH PROBLEMS OCCURRED ON HOT DAYS WHEN DOING A LOT OF STOP/GO DRIVING AND MANEUVERING/PARKING IN TIGHT SPACES. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT STAYED ON BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I AM NOW VERY CONCERNED THAT THE CAR MAY BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND AM BECOMING AWARE THAT THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR. *TR

THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE WITH FORD FREESTYLE HAS AFFECTED US TWICE WITH THE SAME CAR. THE INITIAL TIME IS MENTIONED ABOVE, AND THE PART WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY FORD. THE ISSUE HAS RESURFACED AND IT MAKES THE CAR VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE NOT MASHING THE BRAKE DOWN AT IDLE BECAUSE THE CAR WILL LUNGE OR LURCH UNCONTROLLABLY. IT ACCELERATES RAPIDLY AT IDLE WITHOUT CONTROL. THE LURCHING OCCURS ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WILL ACCELERATE AT TIMES WHEN MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, EVEN IF MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT WILL ALSO STALL WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, THE ENGINE WILL REV UP AND SHUT OFF. IT ALSO WILL NOT ACCELERATE AFTER STALLING OUT WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 28, 2009 TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO FIX MY CAR, BUT THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL DECEMBER 2009. I HAVE CALLED EACH MONTH TO GET AN UPDATE AND EACH TIME HAVE BEEN TOLD SOMETHING DIFFERENT, IN AUGUST 2009 I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS BEING MANUFACTURED AND SHOULD BE IN SOON. AT THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER 2009 I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST AND THAT IT SHOULD BE IN BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER, I WAS TOLD THE PART WOULD NOT BE MANUFACTURED UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER WITH A DELIVERY OF LATE NOVEMBER, SO THE PROJECTED REPAIR TIME FOR MY CAR WOULD BE LATE NOVEMBER EARLY DECEMBER. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE MY CAR FOR MORE THAN 2 MONTHS, IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR MY 3 CHILDREN. SO EARLIER THIS WEEK WE DECIDED TO CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE REPAIR ISSUE. WE ARE NOW BEING TOLD POSSIBLY THE MIDDLE OF OCTOBER THE PART WILL BE AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. AND THEY HAVE SENT A MUTUAL RELEASE FOR ME TO SIGN IN ORDER TO HAVE A LOANER CAR TO USE UNTIL THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. IN THIS RELEASE IT REMOVES ANY AND ALL LIABILITY FOR THE REPAIR FROM FORD, ITS DEALERSHIPS AND SUBSIDIARIES. IN RESEARCHING THE REPAIR ISSUE WITH MY CAR, I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS WAITING ON THE THIS SAME PART AND REPAIR AND WAS TOLD AT ONE TIME BY THE DEALER THAT THERE WERE OVER 900 CARS OF THE SAME MODEL WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND YET THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FROM FORD. *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE - THROTTLE BODY ON ENGINE MALFUNCTIONING, CAUSING ENGINE TO REV. ON OWN AND CAR LURCHES FORWARD IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE FROM 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO ABRUPTLY DEPRESS THE BRAKES AND SHIFT INTO PARK IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
WE HAVE HAD OR FREESTYLE SINCE 7-6-2006 AND NOT AN ISSUE UNTIL THE THROTTLE STARTED ACTING UP ON A ROAD TRIP THIS YEAR. THE CAR HAS ~46K MILES AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED EVERY 5K MILES WITH SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL. THE TROUBLE STARTED WHEN WE DROVE TO UTAH FROM SEATTLE AND HIT THE HEAT. IT WAS NOT BAD AT FIRST BUT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE IF THE CAR SAT WHILE RUNNING. FOR IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS ISSUED TWO TSB'S FOR DEALERS THE NUMBER ARE TSB 05-25-12 AND 06-21-1 (WWW.JUSTFORD.COM). THIS FAILURE CAUSE THE CAR TO SURGE FORWARD OR REVERSE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND RECOMMENDS NOT DRIVING THE CAR DUE TO THE RISK OF INJURY BUT CONTENDS IT'S NOT A "DEFECT" THAT THEY ARE REQUIRED TO COVER. MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SURGES FORWARD WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. THIS STARTED IN THE BEGINNING OF JULY 2009. IT DOES THIS EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE BRAKE. ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HIT CARS IN FRONT OF ME.FORD CLAIMS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FOR THE 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IS NOT BEING PRODUCED ANY LONGER. MY CAR WAS REPLACED WITH A USED PART TELLING ME IT COULD ONLY BE GUARANTEED FOR 6 MONTHS. MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND I FEEL FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
OUT OF THE BLUE, MY CAR WAS JUMPING FORWARD (OR BACKWARD IF IN REVERSE) WITHOUT ME PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. IN ONE INSTANCE, WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THE CAR JUMPED PARTWAY INTO THE INTERSECTION WHICH WAS VERY FRIGHTENING! ALSO HAD AN INCIDENT STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WHERE CAR JUMPED FORWARD NEARLY HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. ALSO EXPERIENCED SOME LOSS OF POWER, INABILITY TO ACCELERATE, WHILE DRIVING. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. TOOK INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. PART WAS VERY HARD TO FIND, AND WE HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR A WEEK. INITIALLY TOLD THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND MAY TAKE A COUPLE MONTHS! *TR
WHEN I AM DRIVING MY CAR WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SURGE WHEN THE CAR IS AT A STOP, CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD. LAST SUMMER I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM LOOK INTO IT AND THEY SAID IT IS JUST DUE TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND THE WAY IT IS TUNED. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS JUST CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS TYPE OF ENGINE. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE AIR IS RUNNING. MOST RECENTLY, MY CAR LUNGED INTO ANOTHER CAR IN LINE AT A RED LIGHT CAUSING REAR END DAMAGE. *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE - PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE AND BRAKING, CAR SURGED FORWARD NARROWLY STOPPING BEFORE HITTING ROCK WALL. CAR HAD BEEN SURGING OCCASIONALLY WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, PUTTING CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK UP. PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. TWO TRIPS TO LOCAL DEALER WITH COMPLAINT OF PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, THEREFORE KEPT NO RECORD OF VEHICLE BEING BROUGHT IN. OCCURRENCE OF SURGING HAD INCREASED IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS, BECOMING MORE NOTICEABLE AFTER TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED TO THE POINT OF HAPPENING ABOUT 4 OF 10 TIMES YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE TO STOP. ON JULY 24, 2009 TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER AND THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE SURGING. TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY -NEEDS REPLACING- VERY COMMON PROBLEM. PART ON BACKORDER UNTIL NOVEMBER, 2009. TOLD THEM THAT I FELT THAT THIS WAS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE. WAS GIVEN THE NUMBER FOR FORD'S CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER. CALLED THE CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER THAT SAME DAY. CRC REP THAT I SPOKE WITH AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER UNTIL NOVEMBER. FORD IS CHANGING THE VENDOR WHO SUPPLIES THIS PART AND THAT IS PART OF THE DELAY. I ASKED HER WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE IF IN APPLYING THE BRAKES AN ACCIDENT HAPPENED, SHE SAID THAT SHE COULDN'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION. I TOLD HER THAT I FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE AND SHE TOLD ME THAT IF I WAS CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY THAT I PROBABLY SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I ASKED ABOUT THE LENGTH OF TIME BEFORE A REPLACEMENT COULD BE OBTAINED AND WAS TOLD THAT VEHICLES STILL IN THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WILL BE REPLACED FIRST, THEN THOSE WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH I HAVE) AND FINALLY THOSE IN WHICH THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. IF FORD HAS HAD A LARGE NUMBER OF THE THROTTLE BODIES TO NEED REPLACING (AS BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CRC REP STATED), WHY HAS FORD NOT SENT OUT A WARNING OR DONE A RECALL OF VEHICLES TO CHECK FOR THIS FAULTY PART. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. A LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN. THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OR ACCELL. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND FOUND IT NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS ON BACK ORDER FOR 6 MONTHS, THEN AFTER COMPLAINING THEY SAID THAT PART HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED AND A NEW PART WITH AN ADAPTER KIT WAS AVAILABLE. IT SEEMS THAT THE DEALERS THAT HAD THE PART DID NOT WANT TO PART WITH THEM AND WE GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS PART WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE WAS FAILING ON A LOT OF THE CARS. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ORIGINAL PART MANUFACTURE WAS NO LONGER DOING BUSINESS WITH FORD AND THAT IS WHEN THEY HAD TO FIND SOMEONE TO MAKE A REPLACEMENT. THE ORIGINAL PART HAD A COOLING TUBE TO IT AND THE NEW ONE DOES NOT. IT SEEMS FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN HEARING THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS DUE TO THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. WE HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE AND WHEN WE TOOK IT IN WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS SPECIFIC PART WAS EXCLUDED WHICH MADE ME WONDER WHY UNLESS THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER CASES LIKE THIS. *TR
I WAS TRANSPORTING MY CHILDREN ON A HOT DAY. WE WERE IDLING WITH THE A/C ON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION. I HAD MY FOOT PRESSED FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE THEN LUNGED FORWARD SEVERAL FEET. THERE WERE NO IMPACTS OR ACCIDENTS, BUT AS I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE ACTED AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL. IT WAS SPUTTERING AND KEPT LUNGING AS IF I HAD REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE CLUTCH THE CHECK ENGINE / WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE DIED. I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES, AND IT DID EVENTUALLY TURN BACK ON, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS SLUGGISH AND CONTINUED LUNGING. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER, JACKSON FORD-MERCURY TAG #540, AS IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY CHECKED THE AIR CONDITIONER AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER A SHORT TIME LATER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND AGAIN THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS. AS THE SEASON CHANGED, THE PROBLEM CLEARED UP. WE WERE NO LONGER USING THE A/C. THE FOLLOWING SUMMER, SAME CONDITIONS, SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIP BIG VALLEY LINCOLN FORD MERCURY RO # 625097 AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND PROVIDED THE REPAIR TAG NUMBER. AFTER PERFORMING A MULT-IPOINT INSPECTION, NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE, AND A DIAGNOSTIC HVAC SYSTEM CHECK, THEY ALSO COULD FIND NO PROBLEM TO REPAIR. CONCERNED THAT OUR WARRANTY WAS GETTING READY TO EXPIRE, WE ASKED THEM TO DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT. WE'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO MANY LOCAL MECHANICS AS WELL. I AM UNSURE OF WHICH PARTS ARE ACTUALLY FAULTY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. WE DON'T UTILIZE THE A/C BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL AND FAILS TO COOL THE AIR PROPERLY ANYWAY. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE IS ENCOUNTERING THE SAME DEFECT AS MANY OF THE OTHERS DESCRIBED UP HERE AND I THINK THAT FORD SHOULD REPAIR THE DEFECT, AS I AND MANY OTHER CONSUMERS PURCHASED THESE VEHICLES IN GOOD FAITH.

THE CONTACT REFERECNED AN INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

WHEN WE DRIVE OUR 2006 FREESTYLE, MANY TIMES IT RUNS RATHER FAST AND IT'S LIKE IT WILL GET AWAY FROM US. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN WE ARE BACKING UP AND TURNING TO THE RIGHT. THIS HAPPENED ONE TIME AND IT CHOKED OFF. WHEN THIS OCCURRED ANOTHER TIME, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT APPEARED. IT WILL RUN "FAST" AND WE NEED TO REALLY GET ON THE BRAKES TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DISAPPEAR. OUR 2006 FREESTYLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2008 AND HAD NO ISSUES FOR THE FIRST YEAR,HOWEVER, AFTER THAT WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE ENGINE WILL RACE AND THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD, DEPENDING ON WHETHER IT IS IN A FORWARD GEAR OR REVERSE, YOU MUST HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE ANYTIME YOU PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR. WHILE THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE ENTERING OR EXITING A PARKING SPACE, IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR WAITING TO PULL ONTO THE HIGHWAY. QUITE OFTEN THE VEHICLE WILL EVEN DIE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHEN THE VEHICLE LUNGES WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. SOMETIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE WRENCH AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS WILL COME ON, AFTER TIME THEY WILL GO OFF. OCCASIONALLY AFTER THIS HAPPENS THE VEHICLE WILL SEEM TO HAVE LOST SOME OF IT'S POWER AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY, SOMETIMES PULLING OFF OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE WILL CAUSE IT TO RUN CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT WHEN IT STARTED ACTING UP AND NOW HAS OVER 100,000 MILES AND IS STILL HAVING THESE PROBLEMS, SO I DON'T THINK THE MILEAGE ACTUALLY HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. WE HAVE NOT SEEN WHERE THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE OR WHETHER THE A/C IS ON HAS ANY EFFECT ON THIS PROBLEM. AFTER LOOKING ON THIS SITE AND SEEING THAT THE FIRST COMPLAINT OF THIS PROBLEM WAS WRITTEN IN 2008 IT JUST AMAZES ME THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE! THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT, HAD WE KNOWN THIS WAS A PROBLEM BEFORE WE PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE, WITH CERTAINTY WE WOULD NOT HAVE ENDANGERED OUR FAMILY'S SAFETY AS WELL AS THAT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC BY PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. *TR

2006 FORD FREESTYLE CAME TO SUDDEN STOP ON A FREEWAY DUE TO TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK. *TR
SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE SLIGHTLY WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE. TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE STOPPED SEEMED TO ACCENTUATE THE CONDITION. IN THE LAST WEEK THE SURGING HAS BECOME DANGEROUS. THE ENGINE REVS EXCESSIVELY AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR WHEN BACKING UP. SEVERAL TIMES I CAME CLOSE TO HITTING CARS AND OBJECTS BEHIND ME. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO GET THE CAR STOPPED IN TIME BEFORE HITTING CARS PARKED BEHIND ME. THE SERVICE INDICATOR (WRENCH) LIGHT THEN CAME ON AND THE CAR ENTERED LIMP-IN MODE. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE CAR BEHAVED NORMALLY AT THAT POINT BUT WAS TAKEN DIRECTLY TO THE LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY INDICATED A FAILED ETB (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) AND A TOTAL COST TO REPAIR OF OVER $800. PART IS NOT AVAILABLE LOCALLY. THEY SAY IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO COME IN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY ENGAGED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. HE THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE WRENCH SYMBOL LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT THEN SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP OR WHEN REVERSING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR YET THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,218 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD WHILE AT A FULL STOP OR WHILE BRAKING/DECELERATING WITH NO WARNING. USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN A/C IS RUNNING ON FULL FAN. WRENCH LIGHT WILL GO ON WHEN IT OCCURS AND CAR WILL RUN VERY SLUGGISH UNTIL CAR IS TURNED OFF. AT RESTART, (IF AIR IS OFF) WRENCH LIGHT IS OFF AND CAR RUNS OK. FORD SERVICE DEPT IN 2007 AND 2008 SAID IF THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM, CAN'T HELP. THIS IS THE THIRD SUMMER IT HAS OCCURRED AND IS OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. FINALLY BROUGHT IT TO SERVICE DEPT FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID THEY HADN'T HEARD ABOUT THIS ALTHOUGH I AM FINDING SEVERAL REPORTS OF EXACT SAME ISSUE ONLINE AND AT NHTSA. THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE AND A "COMPUTER" PART. *TR
