This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2010 Ford Fusion. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle did not immediately stop causing the braking distance to be extended. VIN tool confirms parts are not available. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes did not engage immediately, and the contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic could not duplicate the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that he had to pay out of pocket for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
Loss of electric power steering assist during turning. Steering assist non-functional now.
I was driving down the road at about 25 30 mph and all the sudden the the dash started dinging saying Service advancetrac and power steering failure. I couldn’t do anything but get a tow after that
Approximately a year ago, the electric steering assist went out. I researched and found that there have been MANY complaints on this model and other model years for the exact same issue. While other years have been recalled, the 2010 has not and I paid $1600 for the repair. After only a year, the same issue has occurred again. Research again shows there is still an open investigation into this issue, but still no recall after 4 years. When will this issue be resolved with respect to the investigation and Ford be held to account for the repairs?
I was leaving work and my electric power steering went out and flashed a error code, and I was on a busy highway and could got in a serious accident. This was a recall on the 2011 and newer, but 2010 has the same parts and everything so why wasn't this recall put on 2010 Ford Fusion. This needs to be addressed cause I do not have $2200 laying around to fix this problem and its my only car so now I have no way to get to work. This needs to be readdressed and there should be a recall put out for the 2010 considering its a serious safety issue, and lots more people could be killed to this faulty part on the car.
The contact's son owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering assist. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with power steering assist failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Power steering assist fault and advancetrac started showing on dash, steering is extremely difficult. All fuses have been checked and they are fully functional. Very very dangerous for power steering to not function properly. Was quoted $2,000 to have electronic power steering rack and pinion to be replaced. I can't afford to have that replaced when clearly this is a safety issue that Ford needs to fix.
Power steering assist light came on and suddenly made it very difficult to steer/control the car. It looks like this issue is under investigation by you and I wanted to let you know that another case occurring.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the power steering failed to activate on the initial start-up. The contact would have to restart the vehicle for the power steering to activate, however, it would eventually fail again causing them to have to restart and start the vehicle again. The contact had spoken with the dealer who informed them that their vehicle was not included in any recall. The vehicle had not been officially diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,240.
On Dec 6 this vehicle suddenly lost all braking power , even when the brake pedal was pushed to the floorboard, This happened immediately after the car was driven onto rough payment when exiting a service station after gasoline purchase. The driver was able to bring the vehicle to a stop at curbside without collision or injury. The pavement was dry (no rain) on the day of this incident,. The car was towed to our local ford dealer,. The service technician performed a brake inspection as specified in the repair manual and could not reproduce the problem. The mechanic did not inspect the antilock hydraulic control unit even though we requested such inspection at time of service, This incident is simlar to the hydraulic brake unit failure as described in NTSB recall campaign 19VY904000/ Safety Recall 19WS54. Eiigibility for this recall ended with cars that were manufactured through7/15/2019. Our vehicle was manufactured at THE SAME Hermnosillo, Mex with load date Q8/14;/2009, just missing the recall window by a few weeks. REQUESTED ACTION: EXTEND CLOSING DATE FOR RECALL WINDOW SO OUR DEFECTIVE BRAKES CAN BE REPAIRED ATB NO COST.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that fuel was leaking from the vehicle at the front of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V793000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The failure mileage was unknown.
This is me filing an online complaint: 3/25/2021 Ford manufacturer recall Number 21S12 (NHTSA Recall Number 21V158) is not being handled "in a timely manner" seeing that driver's airbag metal fragments could cause death! I only received a letter form Ford then and today is 11/30/2021 and the recall has not been remedied. I thought you might agree as I cite your website https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls it says, "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline or file an online complaint with NHTSA." Also, please know, the last time Ford airbag "passenger" was handled, I ended up with a rental for 6-MONTHS, until they finally fixed it! I realize due to COVID there is potentially a shortage of supplies. Your website caught my attention and so I am just sending this since you advised to do so. Thanks!
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact’s son stated while driving approximately 45 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the wheels shuddered, and the brake pedal went to the floor. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the brake pedal went to the floorboard and there was a loss of brake pressure while pumping the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with brake master cylinder failure. The contact replaced the brake master cylinder himself; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and the dealer replaced the brake master cylinder again however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
Complete loss of power of steering while driving in heavy traffic. Warning lights came on and message was Service Power Steering Now and Traction Control failure warning. Codes C1277 and C1963 via diagnosed with OBDII tester. When I was turning a corner, all power of steering lost. Steering wheel would not turn and barely missed hitting curb trying to complete the turn. Managed to avoid oncoming traffic and pulled onto side of road. Had to get car home so waited for traffic to clear. Steering wheel had to be manually forced to stay straight and extreme force to turn corners. Car also pulls hard to left and has to be held straight by extreme exhertion of force. Repair cost quoted over phone in excess if $2500. Told PCM and rack and pinion need to be replaced, car reprogrammed and wheel alignment.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while his spouse was driving 35 MPH, the vehicle experienced brake failure. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven back to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contacts daughter stated while driving at approximately 40 mph when the vehicle was struck from behind which resulted in none of the air bags inflating with the exception of the driver-side airbag which only partially inflated. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The contact's daughter sustained head and neck injuries and sought medical treatment. A police report was taken and the vehicle was towed to a local police lot. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable. The power steering warning light was illuminated as well as brakes seizing. Airbags did not deployed.
Was driving down the highway and a light on the dashboard came on with a notification for the steering system needing to be checked. Then another notification for the power steering failure . After that car steering was very difficult. I stopped by a gas station to see if the fluids were low only to find this years model is electrical. I can no longer drive the vehicle. It was very dangerous. It happened while driving at highway speeds. We were very lucky that the it was late at night and not crowded at the time. If it had been any busier or my wife was driving it could have been very catastrophic as it randomly dropped out in casual driving.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed to the floor before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The failure occurred several times while the contact continued driving to his residence. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed the failure as a damaged hydraulic control unit. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,550.
I own this 2010 Ford Fusion that is in great shape and only has 78,750 miles on it. About a week ago the Service Advance Trac light came on. I took it to a repair shop and they plugged in a code reader and told me that a Power Steering module was bad and an estimate to repair it was $1,800.00 dollars. I found that Ford had recalls for this same problems on there 2011 thru 2015 Ford Fusion models. I am wondering why the 2010 is not included in this recall for the same problem. I am retired and on a fixed income and cannot afford the repair cost. Please look into this.
The vehicle's power steering shut off completely upon turning on the vehicle. Dashboard message appeared "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" - In the past the vehicle has demonstrated intermittent power steering failure including a few times while driving. On these very few occasions (twice to be exact) - once in a very safe residential area pulling out of a parking space and once while taking the exit ramp on a hig-traffic interstate putting the owner and passengers and other drivers at risk --- the owner was able to stop the vehicle safely, place in park and turn off engine very briefly and turn on vehicle and the power steering would return. However, the latest message is constant and power steering fluid level is normal but Power steering has not returned. Owner has taken a car to a repair shop and the lead mechanic has stated that this isn't the first time that a Ford Fusion has shown up with this mechanical failure. Utilizing the VIN # the mechanic was unable to confirm a callback for powersteering failure for the FOrd Fusion 2010 but did verify that similar issues have caused a callback for the Ford Fusion later models (2011-2014).
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, an unknown warning light illuminated and then the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated he was able to park on the side of the road. The contact was able to drive to his residence. The contact took another vehicle to the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Upon start up my power steering assist fault message would appear I would shut the car off and restart the light would not come on and would drive fine. On 10/21/21 I lost all power steering. I’ve seen where the 2011 and 2012 models were recalled for the same issue. Just trying to figure out why this model was not. My car has 48500 miles this is not a problem a car with this low mileage should have
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle hesitated to respond, causing a 7-10 feet stopping distance delay. The warning message "Reset Brake System" was illuminated. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 220,000
The passenger airbag has not been replaced but I have a work order from my local dealership claiming they completed the recall. And my power steering/advance trac and automatic breaking system are not working. My power steering locked up on me driving 70 mph going down the highway. 3 of my 4 interior door latches have come apart and broke causing us to have to roll the window down to get out of the vehicle. There are a couple more items that should be considered safety recalls that are not on my model and year, but are covered on other years before and after my year.
Car showed "Power Steering Assist Failure" at random points in time and steering is hard to move. Turning off the car and restarting would make the message go away. This had been occuring for a few years on and off. Problem did not occur at dealership, so no repairs could be identified. For past 6 months, the frequency of this incident was increasing. Last week, the message would not go away despite multiple restarts. Diagnosis by dealer was that steering gear needed to be replaced.
ABS Valve failed - failure was exactly as described in Ford Fusion Recall 19S54 (extended braking period, unsafe ability to brake quickly, as brakes are depressed and then require further braking in order to stop vehicle). Thankfully, my 16 year old son mentioned the problem with decreased braking performance and immediately upon driving, I took it to be looked at because it was clearly not safe to drive. The ABS valve was detected as the problem, the recall was identified and it was towed to a Ford dealership to inspect. Upon running the VIN, they determined that though the vehicle was made in the same plant as the 19S54 recalled vehicles FOR THIS PART/ valve being stuck open, and being a 2010 Ford Fusion, it was not included in the recall. No one from Ford has been willing to even discuss resolution options. The car is currently undriveable because of the unsafe nature of the failure and the cost to repair is more than the value of the vehicle, putting undue burden on the owner for a known part failure, not to mention the known safety risk. I have talked to the Ford Customer Service department (Jessie: Employee #2079462) and Fuller Ford, Cincinnati, OH. No resolution or concern for the safety of this vehicle has been expressed by Ford leadership or locally, despite the danger this car presents with this part failure (that has already been acknowledged by Ford and NHTSA)
Brakes stopped working, pedal went to floor, ABS warning appeared. Took it to repair shop, replaced front and rear pads and rotors, but brakes still did not work, ABS warning again. Took it to dealer who confirmed faulty ABS control unit. Dealer said this car is not covered by a recall of same or similar part in late 2019 as this car is a hybrid and the recalled ones are not. Brakes now work but without power assist. Car has 100,000 miles on it.
3 days ago when coming to a stop light, my brakes was not working properly and when it was not going to come to a stop I pressed really hard on the brakes (There was no cars in front of me but if there was I would definitely hit them) and than I felt my brakes going all the way down to the floor. Every since than when I am driving I have to press really hard on the brakes for a long time before it comes to a stop.
I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion and my wheel locked-up. It felt as if the power steering had gone out. Very, very tough to turn the steering wheel. I did my best to pull over safely. I have my car at a local shop saying they have seen this issue on 2013 Ford Fusions. The mechanic recommends I ask Ford to warranty the parts needing replacement since these are the same parts/issue on Recall number 19V632000 and/or 19S26. Steering: Electric power assist system.
There is an existing recall (19V904000) for my model year Ford Fusion vehicles for the ABS control module. The recall is vin specific. The risk is that a valve in the control unit fails to close and the vehicle looses its ability to stop. My vehicle’s ABS control module has failed due to this sticking valve. I believe my vehicle should be included in the recall due to it having the exact same part as the recalled vehicles and the part failing. Ford is unwilling to fix the problem under the recall.
VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND IS EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF A BRAKE ISSUE EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL #19V904000. HAVE HAD VEHICLE EXAMINED AND DIAGNOSED AT PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT ALL LIKELY CAUSES OF ISSUE INCLUDING MASTER CYLINDER AND AIR IN SYSTEM, WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. FORD DEALER SAYS THIS VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER RECALL BUT IT CONTINUES TO EXHIBIT THE EXACT SYMPTOMS AS DESCRIBED. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS MUSHY WITH EXCESSIVE TRAVEL PRIOR TO ENGAGING. IN A PANIC STOP SITUATION WOULD LIKELY NOT STOP THE VEHICLE.
ABS module malfunctioning consistent with previous ABS module recall despite the car not being on the recall list. Brakes went out as I was turning into a parking lot, nearly hitting the car in front of me. Brake System maintenance light came on and despite changing worn out front brakes and calipers the lights remain on and the pedal requires pressing down on the brakes all the way to the floor to engage the brakes.
Swollen or warped lug nuts.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, she attempted to make a left turn and the power steering assist failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The advanced stabilitrak and the power steering assist fault warning lights are illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact pulled off to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
As I was driving the steering wheel just locked/hard to turn and in the dashboard it said “service power steering now” without any warnings.
Went to leave work one night and backed up and the power assist come up on the dash... now I got to fix it.... I've seen so many complaints about it. Fixing it and selling it.
Power steering assist failed multiple times while driving and has now gone out completely. I loose all easy control and for a 74 year old woman it's not safe I see there is a lot of recalls for this but not on this car
Power steering went out while driving and warning messages came on. Message power steering assist fault and service advanced trac.
Power steering assist fault light came on and steering is locked up! Had someone hook a computer up to the car and have codes. Ford tells me they can’t tell me what the codes mean and I have to pay $144 for a diagnosis, then whatever repair costs to fix! I’m a single mother and can’t afford the repair costs!!
Power Steering Assistance fails intermittently. Have replaced the steering module 2 times. This will be the 3rd fix in less than 2 years. Very dangerous as this can fail at anytime.
I am filing a complaint because Ford has not addressed the open recall regarding the ABS brake issue in a timely manner. This recall was opened in December 2019 with parts expected to be available late first quarter 2020, according to the recall bulletin. Here it is almost 1.5 years later with no resolution. Here is the recall I am referring to: Dec 18,2019 Manufacturer Recall Number19S54 NHTSA Recall Number19V904 Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available
Occasionally the power steering system will fail as the vehicle is moving. It has occurred several times and always at low speeds. This could easily cause an accident. I have not had the problem analyzed. The dash will display a “Power Steering Assist Fault “ message as the failure occurs.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, without warning the vehicle began to violently shake. The contact mentioned that an abnormal odor appeared from the passenger's side wheel as the brake failed to engaged properly. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road, turned the vehicle off and back on which resumed back to normal. The contact stated that the failure recurred 5 additional times. No dealer was contacted. The vehicle had not been diagnosed nor repaired. The contact mentioned NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) as a possible solution to the failure however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage approximate 89,000
Brakes would go to floor then Brakes stopped working. Had car looked at and mechanic said it is the same problem as recall and would not fix because of recall. Called local Ford and they said VIN is not part of recall and offered no help.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would depress the floorboard without warning.
