TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKES MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND HESITATED TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
BRAKES FAIL AT SLOW SPEEDS. SOMETIMES THEY WORK, SOME TIMES THEY START WORKING AND QUIT AND THE TRUCK SLIDES. NO ABS LIGHTS COMING ON AND THE ABS DOESN'T PUMP. SLID INTO PARKING CURB STOP, ALMOST STRUCK OREILLY AUTO PARTS BUILDING IN ATCHISON AND JAMMED MY NECK. HAD BRAKES CHECKED, MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED AND BRAKES WERE BLED WITH NEW FLUID. EVERY THING IN GOOD SHAPE, BUT BRAKES ARE STILL FAILING. MECHANIC IN ATCHISON SAID THIS IS THE SECOND RANGER HE SEEN WITH THIS PROBLEM; ON THE OTHER RANGER THEY REMOVED THE ABS FUSE AND BRAKES FUNCTIONED FINE. WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CODES OR ABS LIGHTS ON VEHICLE UNTIL FUSE WAS PULLED. WITH NO CODES BEING SET, UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT THIS PROBLEM. FORD NOT WILLING TO INSTRUCT AS TO WHAT IS GOING ON WITHOUT CHARGING $80 AN HOUR FOR REPAIRS. HAVE LIMITED INCOME, CAN NOT AFFORD TO TAKE VEHICLE TO FORD. VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS IS GOING TO CAUSE A COLLISION. PLEASE HELP. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL ON INITIAL PRESS WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR AND HIT THE BACK STOP. A PUMP WOULD CREATE SOME PRESSURE BUT A HARD PRESS WOULD STILL HIT THE BACK STOP. DEALER CONFIRMED LOSS OF PRESSURE AND REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER. THIS IS THE THIRD ON THIS TRUCK. PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER ONCE AND THIS IS THE 2ND REPLACEMENT SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. I REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER PREVIOUSLY AT 96,836 MILES. *TR

WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LINE WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE SHOCKS AND THE METAL BRACKET THAT HELD THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LINE SEPARATE WAS MISSING. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HIM THAT NO SUCH PART EXISTED; THE CONTACT, HOWEVER, FOUND THE PART ON THE MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 92,000.

THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IF THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATES THE HAZARD LIGHTS, THE FAILURE WILL CORRECT ITSELF. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN 30 TIMES WITHIN ONE MONTH. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE CONTACT MADE AN ABRUPT STOP AND THE BRAKES FAILED. SHE DROVE HOME AT A LOW SPEED AND, ONCE THERE, SHE NOTICED BRAKE FLUID PUMPING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MUFFLER SHOP THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BRAKE LINES. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE BECAUSE THE PARTS HAVE NOT YET ARRIVED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,170.
2000 FORD RANGER BRAKE LINE FAILURE -- THE RIGHT-REAR BRAKE LINE RUPTURED. THIS IS THE SECOND BRAKE LINE RUPTURE IN A LITTLE OVER 1 YEAR. THE FIRST RUPTURE WAS WITH THE LEFT-REAR BRAKE LINE IN MARCH 2007. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $295.00. THE SECOND RUPTURE OCCURRED ON JULY 2, 2008. THIS REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED AS YET. BOTH RUPTURES OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING AND DURING AN ATTEMPT TO APPLY THE BRAKES. UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT SPONGY, AND BOTH THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE DID EVENTUALLY STOP. FORTUNATELY, THERE WHERE NO OTHER VEHICLES OR PEDESTRIANS IN FRONT OF ME. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, THE BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID AND THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER RESERVOIR WAS BELOW HALF FULL. A CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH NEAR THE FITTINGS. THIS VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES AND IS DRIVEN INFREQUENTLY. *TR
ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON. SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING ENGINE LIGHT ON. CHANGED ABS SENSOR. ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT. SPEEDOMETER WORKING BUT WILL BOUNCE AROUND WHEN DIRECTIONAL IS PUT ON OR WHEN FOOT IS APPLIED TO BRAKE. ABS SENSOR LIGHT IS STILL ON. OCCASIONAL LOSS OF ALL BRAKING POWER. 2000 FORD RANGER 4X4 PICK-UP. THIS VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS WITHOUT ANY NOTICE HAS HAD COMPLETE OR DRASTIC BRAKING POWER LOSS. THERE ARE NO INDICATOR WARNING LIGHTS OF ANY TYPE TO INDICATE THERE IS A PROBLEM. ON TWO OCCASIONS I ALMOST HIT OTHER VEHICLES IN THE REAR DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE AND MY WIFE FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND WENT OUT INTO THE PATH OF AN ON COMING VEHICLE. (NO ACCIDENT). *NM

THE SPRING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BRAKE SHOES HAVE A SELF ADJUSTER THE SPRING AT THE BOTTOM RUBBED THE SELF ADJUSTER. IT DID NOT RUB BRAKE SHOES . IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE IN THE WHEEL. THE CONTACT TOOK IT OFF AND FOUND THE BROKEN SPRING . WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IT MADE A RATTLING NOISE ON JULY, 15 2005. NO CRASH INVOLVED. NO POLICE REPORT TAKEN. NO INJURIES REPORTED. *AK THE BOTTOM BRAKE SHOE RETAINING SPRING WAS INSTALLED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE SELF ADJUSTER, WHICH EVENTUALLY RUBBED THE SPRING AND BROKE. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THE OTHER SIDE STARTED MAKING A NOISE AN IT HAD ALSO BROKE. AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW BRAKE SHOE THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE SPRING SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BEHIND THE SELF ADJUSTER. THE CONSUMER HAS ONE OF THE SPRINGS IN HIS POSSESSION. *NM
CONSUMER STATED: THE SERPENTINE BELT WENT OUT TWICE AND THE PULLEY SYSTEM HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT, THE ABS LIGHT WAS ON, THEN A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THERE WERE NO BRAKES LEFT, HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. FORD SAID IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE TO GO OUT WHEN ALTERNATOR WENT OUT. *JB
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. THERE WAS MOISTURE BUILDING UP ON THE BRAKES, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MAKE A LOUD" BOOM WHEN TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD. OWNER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND THE MANUFACTURER WHO IS TELLING THE OWNER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. *AK WHEN THE CONSUMER RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE AND ENGAGED THE CLUTCH HE HAD TO ACCELERATE AS MUCH AS 3500 RPM'S TO MAKE THE VEHICLE MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. *BF *NM
12/16/02 (36,635 MILES) FIRST NOTIFIED DEALER THAT BRAKES SEEMED TO TAKE FARTHER DISTANCE FOR STOP AND THAT THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE WHOLE VEHICLE WHEN BRAKING. THEY DETERMINED THE FRONT ROTORS WERE FAULTY AND FIXED THEM. 5/5/03 (40,771 MILES) TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BOTH FRONT ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND PADS WERE REPLACED. 9/13/04 (55,637 MILES) TRUCK WAS RETURNED AGAIN TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOW THE REAR DRUMS BEING OUT OF ROUND AND THAT THEY WOULD FIX FOR 300 DOLLARS. CONSUMER PLANS TO GET A SECOND OPINION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FAILED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT REAR BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDER FROZE UP. ALSO, PADS BROKE, AND DAMAGED THE DRUM. *AK WITH ONLY 33800 MILES ON THE VEHICLE CONSUMER THOUGHT IT STRANGE FOR THE NOTED FAILURE. BRAKES GOING BAD SO THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP. *TC
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE FRONT BRAKES ARE MAKING A GROWLING NOISE. TOOK THE FRONT WHEEL OFF THE TRUCK, CHECKED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE BACK SIDE OF THE ROTOR IS DETERIORATING AND IN RETURN IS EATING UP THE BRAKE PAD. TOOK TRUCK TO ROBERTS FORD IN WOOD RIVER, IL. IN MAY 2004 AND NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE DEFECT. THE SHOP MANAGER REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, TOLD ME THIS WAS GENERAL MAINTAINANCE. I REALIZE THAT BRAKE PADS ARE GENERAL MAINTAINANCE BUT WHEN THE BRAKE ROTOR IS EATING UP THE PADS THIS IS NOT GENERAL MAINTAINANCE THIS IS A DEFECT.*AK

WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE TO MAKE A QUICK STOP ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE BRAKE PEDAL BENT APPROXIMATELY 15 DEGREES PREVENTING ME FROM STOPPING IN TIME TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE TRUCK DID NOT SKID NOR DID THE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEMS ACTIVATE.
