ENTIRE SPARE TIRE STORAGE MOUNT ASSEMBLY BROKE FREE FROM FRAME AND PULLED WIRES AND HOSES WITH IT AS IT WENT UNDER MY RIGHT TIRE AND CAUSED ME TO GO OFF ROAD NEARLY CRASHING INT TREES
SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL FELL OFF DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST IN REAR END OF FRAME AND PULLED WITH IT SOME WIRES AND A FILTER CANISTER AND A HOSE MOUNTED ON THE WHEEL WELL.IF WHEEL WELL WAS BOLTED TO FRAME I MIGHT FIX IT.IT WAS HELD BY PERMANENT RIVET TYPE FASTENERS . CANNOT FIND WHEEL WELL BEING SOLD ANYWHERE.
FORD RANGER 2005 4 CYLINDER FUEL CUTOFF SAFETY SWITCH CUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING, FIRST TIME IN 2012 WHILE OUT OF STATE, TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, TRIED TO PULL OVER, BUT NOT MUCH OF A ROAD SHOULDER. I HAD IT TOWED 11 MILES TO AN UNFAMILIAR GARAGE THAT, REPLACED THE SWITCH FOR $360. IN 2015 SWITCH FAILED, TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND REPAIRED. I BELIEVE THEY RESET THE SAFETY SWITCH AND CHARGED $70 DOLLARS. RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS, FOUND OUT THE SWITCH IS PROBABLY DEFECTIVE AND CAN BE RESET. I CANNOT START MY VEHICLE MORE THAN THREE TIMES WITHOUT RESETTING THE SWITCH. THE FORD DEALER WANTED TO REPLACE MY FUEL PUMP FOR $850. I DOUBT THAT IS THE PROPER FIX. THIS SITUATION IS EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING AND QUITE DANGEROUS. I DON'T KNOW WHY FORD IS TURNING AWAY FROM THIS PROBLEM OTHER THAN THE NUMBER OF OWNERS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. I LOVE MY TRUCK, I HATE THE INCONVENIENCE. THERE ARE OTHER MODELS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE CUTOFF CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME, WHILE IN MOTION OR STANDING STILL.

FIST SIZE AND MULTIPLE FINGER SIZE RUST HOLES IN FRAME. SPARE TIRE MOUNTS COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF.SPARE TIRE WAS HELD ON BY STEEL LINE. WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY LEAF SPRING MOUNT ON DRIVER SIDE RUSTED COMPLETELY OFF. LEAF SPRING NOW PUSHES UP ON BOTTOM OF THE BED. ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY HEARD A LOUD BANG. GOT HOME AND SEEN THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED. DRIVING THIS TRUCK PUTS ANYONE ON THE ROAD IN IMMEDIATE DANGER. DRIVER AND OTHERS. I WOULD SAY EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED WOULD BE "NEAR MISSES"

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING AT 36 MPH, A VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY PULLED IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO T-BONE THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, NECK, AND BRUISES ON BOTH ARMS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK (1/4 COMMUTE FROM OFFICE TO HOUSE, THROUGH RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD). MOVING ALONG STREET AT 25 MPH, APPROACH SLIGHT ROAD INCLINE & APPLY GAS APPROPRIATELY FOR CONDITIONS (DRY PAVED ROAD); VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES VERY RAPIDLY, CAUSING REAR END TO FISHTAIL, VEHICLE PULLS LEFT; (STRIKES PARKED CAR AT END OF DRIVEWAY LEFT SIDE OF ROAD); APPLYING BRAKES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GAIN CONTROL OF STEERING; BRAKES WILL NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE; STEERING OVER-CORRECTS TO RIGHT; (STRIKE PARKED CAR AT END OF DRIVEWAY RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD); VEHICLE CONTINUES ON AND STRIKES SIDE OF HOUSE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE LOSING AIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADDED AIR TO THE TIRES. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES TO HIGH SPEED, WITH CAR MOVING SLOWLY AT FIRST. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES NOW, ALWAYS INITIALLY AT LOW SPEED. IN ALL CASES, HOLDING BRAKES HARD HAS KEPT VEHICLE FROM HITTING ANYTHING OR ANYBODY, BUT REAR WHEELS TURNED ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE VEHICLE EVEN WHILE BRAKE WAS HELD HARD. TURNING OFF KEY STOPS THE ENGINE, AND WHEN IT IS RESTARTED, SYMPTOMS DISAPPEAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED MOST TIMES WITH CRUISE CONTROL TURNED OFF, THOUGH I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED. TENDS TO HAPPEN AT GAS STATIONS AFTER REFUELING OR WHEN PARKING, IN BOTH CASES WITH VEHICLE INITIALLY RUNNING VERY SLOWLY. I BELIEVE THAT ACCIDENTAL PRESSING OF ACCELERATOR CAN BE RULED OUT HERE. MALFUNCTION/FAILURE OF VEHICLE ABS UNIT. FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN PERMANENTLY IN THE FALL/WINTER OF 2014. VEHICLE IS 10 YEARS OLD BUT HAD LESS THAN 30 THOUSAND MILES, AND HAS BEEN GARAGED FOR ITS ENTIRE OPERATIONAL LIFE. IT TOOK SEVERAL MONTHS FOR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE NEW OEM ABS UNIT, IMPLYING THAT MANY OTHER VEHICLES ARE EXPERIENCING THIS UNIT FAILURE. NARROWLY AVOIDED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO BRAKES LOCKING UP DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING. RECEIPT FOR REPAIR IS ATTACHED.

I HAVE A 2005 FORD RANGER EXTENDED CAB. I WAS DRIVING IT AND I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKES FELT REALLY FUNNY SO I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE ROTTED OUT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THAT THE FRAME WAS ROTTED OUT. THE BODY MOUNTS ARE ROTTED OUT, THE SHACKLES ARE ABOUT TO FALL OFF. HE ALSO SAID THAT THE FRAME RAILS IN BETWEEN THE LEAF SPRINGS ARE ABOUT TO BREAK IN HALF, AND IF THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR MYSELF. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF EVERYBODY ELSE DRIVING A FORD RANGER THAT IS NOT AWARE IF ITS ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH OVER A SMALL BUMP, THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND ROLLED INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRAME CROSS MEMBERS ON THE TIRE MOUNT WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHOLE VEHICLE WOULD JUST SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENED 3 OR 4 TIMES JUST GOING AT 25 TO 35 MPH. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS A CLOGGED FUEL LINE SINCE IT WOULD SOMEHOW RESET ITSELF AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC SO I REPLACED THE FILTER EVEN THOUGH I COULD SEE NOTHING WRONG. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON A BACKCOUNTRY ROAD THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE FUEL PUMP SO I HAD THE WHOLE THING REPLACED. IT HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME AFTER THAT, I WAS PULLING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND HAD JUST GOTTEN UP TO SPEED 55 MPH AND THERE WAS A TRACTOR-TRAILER BEHIND ME WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN AGAIN EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH MOMENT BUILT UP I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE GETTING HIT BY THE TRACTOR-TRAILER. I FINALLY LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT SOMEONE HAD MENTIONED THE SAME PROBLEM IT MAY BE THE INERTIA SWITCH. I CALLED UP A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAD ASKED THE PARTS PERSON IF THE HAD A REPLACEMENT AND IF HE HEARD ANY PROBLEMS ABOUT IT. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT OF THEM, THEY HAD SOLD A FEW IN THE PAST MONTHS. WHEN I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD OH YES WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT THAT HAPPENING BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I EXPLAINED HOW IT COULD BE A SAFETY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT IT MUST NOT BE HAPPENING ENOUGH FOR IT TO BE A RECALL. I RECENTLY FOUND THIS SITE AND HAVE SEEN THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THIS HAPPEN SO AT LEAST I KNOW I WASN'T CRAZY. *TR
SEVERE FRAME RUST NOTED AFTER 8/2014 MAINE SAFETY INSPECTION. CHANCES OF VEHICLE PASSING A 2015 INSPECTION VERY REMOTE ACCORDING TO THE TECH DOING THE VEHICLE CERTIFICATION. ONLY 5 MAINE WINTERS ENDURED BY THE VEHICLE 2005_2010. PARKED & GARAGED THE LAST 4 WINTERS.OTHERWISE THE VEHICLE IS PRISTINE. LOTS OF OTHER FOLKS WITH SIMILAR ISSUE ACCORDING TO RESEARCH OF LOCAL BODY SHOPS. WHY?? *TR
UNDER- BED MOUNTED SPARE TIRE MOUNTS RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING TIRE TO BREAK FREE FROM VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED VEHICLE HAS SERIOUS FRAME DAMAGE FROM RUST, PARTICULARLY THE FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAPS. THE FRAME IS FALLING APART AT AN ALARMING RATE. *TR

I DID RECEIVE A LETTER ABOUT FOURS YEARS AGO AND NO FORD DEALER AROUND HERE WOULD HELP ME OUT WITH THIS RECALL. NO RECALL WAS DONE ON THIS TRUCK .
NO LONGER OWN THIS VEHICLE. HAVE NOT OWNED IN AT LEAST 2 YEARS. VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED AND TOTALED. PLEASE STOP SENDING RECALL NOTICES.
MY HUSBAND T-BONED A SEMI AT 35 MPH. THE TRUCK SPUN AROUND AND THE REAR OF THE TRUCK ALSO HIT THE SEMI. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HE INCURRED MULTIPLE INJURIES, SOME OF WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED HAD AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED. THERE WAS A DIRECT HIT -- I.E. FRONT OF TRUCK HIT SIDE OF SEMI AND DESTROYED ENGINE (AND MORE), YET AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. . *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING NORTH ON HIGHWAY 37 AND A CAR TRAVELING WEST PULLED OUT FROM A STOP SIGN IN FRONT OF IS WE HIT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF OUR TRUCK INTO THE OTHER VEHICLES LEFT FRONT AND OUR TRUCK CONTINUED OVER THE TOP OF THE OTHER VEHICLES FRONT END.THE AIRBAGS ON OUR TRUCK DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
LOUD SQUEAL FOR SEVERAL DAYS THOUGHT IT WAS TENSION PULLEY. THAT WAS REPLACED WITH NO CHANGE. A FEW DAYS LATER GOING DOWN THE ROAD. A VERY LOUD SQUEAL FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER. LATER WAS DETERMINED THE VIBRATION DAMPENER HAD COME APART. THE RUBBER HAD COME PART ALLOWING THE GROOVE SECTION THE BELT RIDES ON TO SLIP TOWARD THE BACK UP AGAINST THE FRONT COVER. IN LOOKING ONLINE FOR INFORMATION IT WAS DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH EXPLORER AND RANGERS WITH THE 4.0 ENGINE. A LOT OCCUR WITH LOW MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND SOME RESULT IT MAJOR REPAIRS AS THE PULLEY FLIES OFF TAKING OUT THE RADIATOR. I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE MINE BECAUSE I AM A MECHANIC AND HAVE THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB. SO MY REPAIR BILL WAS NOT AS MUCH AS OTHERS HAD STATED. *TR
FRONT PORTION OF RACK BROKE LEAVING THE TIRE HANGING BELOW THE TRUCK. FORD DEALER SAID THE FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT AND COULD NOT BE FIXED. *TR
TOP OF FRAME FROM THE SHOCK TOWERS FORWARD HAVE RUSTED THRU AND THE FRAME HAS SPLIT. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD, HAS ONLY 97,00 MILES ON IT, AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE IS GARAGED AT NIGHT AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN A SNOW STORM DURING THE LAST FOUR YEARS. OTHERWISE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. *TR

FIRST TIME WE WERE SHOPPING, WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR IT WOULDN'T START. WE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP? WHEN IT HAPPEN THE NEXT TIME WE WERE DRIVING WHEN ENGINE SHUT OFF,WE WERE ON A DIRT ROAD HAD NO POWER STEERING,NO POWER BRAKES ONLY GOING 20 MPH.THE SHOP TOLD US THAT IT WAS THE FUEL SHUTOFF VALVE IN CASE OF A CRASH. I PURCHASED THE RANGER 5/30/13 FROM A FORD DEALER.OVER THE PAST YEAR THE ENGINE HAS STOPPED 8 TO 10 TIMES.WE ON A WENT TRIP LAST WEEKEND IT HAPPEN TWO TIMES ON I 84 IN IDAHO WE WERE GOING 75 MPH. I DID GET THE TRUCK OFF THE FREEWAY BUT WONDER WHAT IF WE WERE IN BOISE OR SALT LAKE WITH ALL OF THE TRAFFIC WHAT MITE HAVE HAPPEN.HAS THIS HAPPEN TO OTHER RANGERS ????? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, THE TECHNICIAN NOTIFIED HIM THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. IN ADDITION, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CORROSION WAS CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SWITCH THAT SENT FUEL TO THE ENGINE HAD A SHORT AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V352000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT STATED THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

MY VEHICLE (FORD RANGER) T-BONES ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT MAKES LEFT TURN RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. MY VEHICLE MAKES DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE AT APPROX 45 MPH. NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT FOR ME (DRIVER) OR THE ADULT PASSENGER THAT IS PRESENT IN MY VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE TURNING A CORNER THE TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF AND DIED. HAD TO PUSH IT OVER TWO LANES AND INTO A PARKING LOT ONLY TO FIND OUT THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH WAS POPPED. RESET IT AND THE TRUCK STARTED FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE OFF IT DIED AGAIN. RECHECKED THE INERTIA SWITCH AND THIS TIME IT WAS NOT POPPED. PULLED THE CONNECTOR OFF OF THE SWITCH AND JUMPED THE CONNECTOR AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE ALL THE WAY HOME. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS SWITCH HAS GIVEN ME TROUBLE. ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO IT DID THE SAME THING BUT THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND REPLACED A $400.00 FUEL PUMP ONLY TO FIND OUT LATER THAT THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH HAD POPPED. THIS SWITCH SEEMS TO POP IN SOME ODD AND BAD LOCATIONS WITH NO APPARENT REASON. NO BUMPS IN THE ROAD, NO HARD BRAKING, OR HARD ACCELERATION ETC. THIS TIME WHEN I PULLED THE SWITCH I FOUND THE CONNECTOR SLIGHTLY MELTED AND REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION IN THE SWITCH ITSELF. HAD TO ORDER A SWITCH KIT WHICH RELOCATES IT INTO THE FUSE PANEL KICK PLATE OF THE TRUCK. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS AS IT IS A GOOD WAY TO CAUSE AND ACCIDENT IF THE TRUCK WAS GOING HIGH SPEED AND ALL THE SUDDEN STALLS AND YOU LOOSE ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES ETC. COULD GET SOMEONE KILLED. THANKFULLY I CAUGHT MINE BECAUSE I AM A MECHANIC AND KNOW A LOT ABOUT FORDS. *TR
TOOK MY TRUCK FOR ITS NYS INSPECTION TO MY FORD DEALER-- TECH STATED HE COULD NOT PASS THE TRUCK BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE RUST ON A PART OF THE FRAME. THIS VEHICLE HAS UNDER 39K MILES ON IT AND IS WELL- MAINTAINED. THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS PERFECT AND THE REST OF THE FRAME HAS AN EXPECTABLE AMOUNT OF RUST FOR THIS CLIMATE. I HAVE HAD FOUR OTHER FORD TRUCKS USED AND STORED UNDER SAME CONDITIONS AND NONE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH FRAME RUST. THE OFFENDING PART IS A FRONT CROSS MEMBER THOUGH WHICH SOME BOLTS PASS. THE HOLES AROUND THE BOLTS ARE "ROTTEN".
AS A PASSENGER ENTERED MY TRUCK, THEIR FOOT HIT THE INERTIA SWITCH KILLING THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 15 TIMES, 3 OF WHICH NO PASSENGER WAS EVEN IN THE TRUCK. THIS SWITCH IS PLACED IN A COMMONLY KICKED AREA AND ONCE TRIPPED THE FIRST TIME IT BECOMES EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO VIBRATION. ONE TIME IT CUT OFF WHILE I WAS IDLING IN LINE AT A DRIVE-THRU. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND RELOCATED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE HARMONIC BALANCER FAILED. THE PULLEY SEPARATED FROM THE REST OF THE BALANCER AND SLID BACK TO DESTROY THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. ONCE THE SENSOR FAILED, THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT THIS SUDDEN FAILURE IS DANGEROUS AND IF I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THERE ARE SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF THE SAME ISSUES ON THE FORD 4.0 ENGINE ON RANGER / EXPLORER.
