FRONT BRAKES AND BACK BRAKES; WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, THE FAILED, VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP. ROTORS/CALIPERS/ DRUMS SHOE PADS WERE DEFECTIVE. ALSO, RADIATOR/ OIL PAN, AND STEERING POWER ASSIST: HOSE: FLUID WERE LEAKING. AND DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THEM. *AK
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN THE TIE ROD SNAPPED CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, THE CAR TURNED INTO A CURB AND STOPPED. NLM
TRANSMISSION FAILED. GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM TRANSMISSION WHEN COASTING. DIAGNOSED AS PLANETARY GEAR FAILURE BY DEALER AFTER INSTALLING NEW OIL DISTRIBUTION TUBES PER FORD TSB (02/08/2001). DEALER UNWILLING TO DISCUSS REPAIR UNDER "OWNER NOTIFICATION PROGRAM". DEALER WILL NOT CONTACT ZONE MANAGER. *AK

WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE VEHICLE DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. DEALER CLAIMS THAT IT IS TFI MODULE. *AK
AFTER HAVING BALL JOINT REPLACED BY MIDAS MUFFLER, A DEFECTIVE BOLT ON MY VEHICLE CAUSED THE WHEEL TO DISENGAGE AND CV BOOT CAME OUT. IF THIS OCCURRED AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE OCCUPANTS WOULD OF BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED. *AK
TRANSMISSION STARTED JUMPING INTO NEUTRAL, AND THEN STARTED DOWN INTO FIRST GEAR. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
I WAS ABOUT 75 MILES FROM HOME TRAVELING SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 87 @65 MPH.I HAD PASSED A SEMI. AND PULLED BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THE TAURUS SHUDDERED AND SHOOK AND IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO 45 MPH. I PUT ON THE 4WAY FLASHERS AND PULLED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED AAA AND HAD TO BE FLAT-BEDDED OFF THE INTERSTATE BACK TO MY HOME. THE FORD MOTOR CO. 'S PROBLEMS WITH THE SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON IN THE AXOD-E TRANSMISSION HAVE BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED BEGINNING IN YHE 1986 MODEL YEAR. BUT THE 1991 SEEMS TO FAIL THE MOST . USUALLY IN THE 60-80K RANGE. JUST MY LUCK, I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 76K ON IT AND ONLY GOT 6000 MILES OUT OF IT. THE TRANSMISSION WILL COST BETWEEN $900-$1200 TO REPLACE. FORD DID HAVE AN ONP ADDRESSING THESE FAILURES AND DID ,IN THE PAST,REIMBURSE FOR CORRECTING THEM.*AK
THE CAR WOULD QUIT AND WOULDN'T START, A WRECKER SERVICE HAULDED IT IN TWICE. I HAD TO LEAVE IT WHERE IT WAS OVERNIGHT TWICE. I HAD IT HAULED TO BROWN'S AUTO IN PAINTSVILLE THE LAST TIME, WHERE IT STAYED FOR 1 MONTH. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER CHECK, TOLD ME THE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE WAS BAD, I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET IT FIXED YET BECAUSE FORD ISN'T MAKING PARTS. THIS HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR. I LIVE IN KY. I HAVE TO PAY TAXES ON THIS TO LET IT SIT.*AK
CAR STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. WILL START AGAIN WHEN COOLED OFF. DANGEROUS!! CANNOT LOCATE PART ANYWHERE. HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOCATE THE PART FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS. WHEN I CALLED A FORD DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME "YOUR SCREWED."*AK
AIR BAG LIGHT BLINKING A CODE. FORD WANTS $600. TO REPAIR A REAR SENSOR. AIR BAG WILL NOT ACTIVATE IN A CRASH UNTIL THIS EXCESSIVE REPAIR AMOUNT IS PAID TO REPAIR. WE NEED HELP WITH THIS SAFETY ITEM, PLEASE.
WHILE DRIVING, COOPER GUARDMENS #SCR TIRE P205/70R14 LPLIT ALL THE DOWN ON THE SIDEWALL ON, TIRES WERE PURCHASED FROM SEARS, DOT PLT9FEKR136. *SLC
THE WHEEL MELTED IN A MANNER THAT CAUSED IT TO COME OFF THE AXLE; THE RETAINING WHEEL NUTS WERE COMPLETELY BYPASSED AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. HAD MY SON BEEN ON THE FREEWAY.... PROBABLE SERIOUS INJURY TO HIMSELF AND OTHERS. K&S SERVICEMAN SAID HE HAD SEEN EVEN WORSE SITUATIONS WITH MELTDOWNS OF WHEEL. WHAT IDIOTS USE OTHER THAN STEEL FOR THE WHEEL? HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THIS?
CONSUMER HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED MAY OF 1999, AND ON 9TH OF AUGUST VEHICLE STARTED TO MISS. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC, AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE, TRANSMISSION WAS TOTALLY GONE. *AK
2 TIRES WITH PARTIAL TREAD SEPARATION WITHIN THE PREVIOUS 9 MONTHS. THIRD TIRE SUFFERED COMPLETE, VIOLENT TREAD SEPARATION AT FREEWAY SPEED. DAMAGED WHEEL WELL AND BUMPER. TRIPPED FUEL EMERGENCY CUTOFF DUE TO VIOLENT SEPARATION. TRANSMISSION AT A STOP RUMBLES CAR TREMENDOUSLY AND CAUSES ENGINE TO RACE THEN AS GAS IS APPLIED , CAR SLIPS THEN TAKES OFF, THEN COMES OUT OF GEAR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM .PLEASE INFORM ME IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS CARS TRAMISSION.ON THE LIST OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR, THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WENT TO PULL UP TO A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP IT POPS OUT OF GEAR TO NEUTRAL. HAVE TO REVERSE THE ENGINE IN ORDER TO PUT IT BACK IN GEAR. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED THAT THE PISTON IS BAD IN THE TRANSMISSION, AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
FRONT MOTOR MOUNT HAS BROKEN TWICE HAVEN'T SEEN A RECALL ABOUT THIS YET IS THERE ONE THAT I HAVE OVER LOOKED PLZ CONTACT ME TO LET ME KNOW OF THE RECALL THAT MY CARS HAS I CALLED ONCE BEFORE N I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD NO RECALLS ON MY CAR YET I HAVE RECENTLY PRINTED OUT 6-7 THAT EFECT MY CAR. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN PARKING LOT TRAVELING 8MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING FROM THE WEST AND TRAVELING ABOUT 25-35MPH, WAS TAKING A SHORT CUT THROUGH THE PARKING LOT FROM A BUSY STREET, AND HIT CONSUMER ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY. *AK
THE FLEXIBLE BRAKE LINE IN THE RIGHT REAR FENDER WELL DEVELOPED AN OBSTRUCTION AT THE POINT WHERE AN INTERMEDIATE CLAMP IS INSTALLED TO SECURE IT TO THE STRUT. THIS CAUSED IT TO ACT AS A CHECK VALVE, THEREBY NOT RELEASING THE CALIPER, WHICH CAUSED IT TO OVERHEAT AND SET THE RUBBER COMPONENTS, WHEEL BEARING GREASE, AND PLASTIC HUBCAP ON FIRE. *AK
VEHICLE REQUIRES NEW CLUTCH ASSEMBLY ON THE TRANSMISSION. *MJS

SUBFRAME TO BODY MOUNT BOLTS REPEATEDLY BECAME CORRODED AND RUST OUT. CONSUMER HAS HAD TO REPLACE SUBFRAME S ON ALL THREE OF FORD, TAURUS NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. HOWEVER ,THIS DEFECT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL. (VIN #'S FOR VEHICLES: [XXX], [XXX], AND [XXX].) THE 3.8 LITER FORD ENGINE IS FOR PREMATURE HEADGASKET FAILURE. I CONTACTED FORD IN WRITING ASKING TO BE REIMBURSED BUT THAT WAS REJECTED. *AK
RECALL 98V323/ SUBFRAME BOLT CORROSION. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL LETTER, TOOK IT TO DEALER, AND BOLTS WERE REPLACED.ON JUNE 15TH, MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE, AND CONSUMER COULD NOT STEER VEHICLE/ LOST CONTROL. CONSUMER FELT THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
FORD KNOWS THIS TO BE A PRODUCT FAILURE ON THEIR 3.8L ENGINES....THEY ARE REFUNDING 93/94/95 MODELS FOR GASKET REPLACEMENT AND OR TOTAL ENGINE REPAIRS. BECAUSE THIS IS A RETIRED PERSON THAT PUT FEW MILES ON THE CAR ANNUALLY THE EST. GASKET FAILURE FORD SAYS AT 65,000 MILES WAS NOT REACHED UNTIL NOW. BUT THE CAR HAD KNOWN PRODUCT FAILURE ! *AK
REAR SHOCK TOWER HOUSING ASSEMBLY IS RUSTED ON SEAM, WHERE THE TOP PLATE IS MOUNTED TO THE HOUSING. OWNER NOTICED THIS WHEN LOOKING IN THE TRUNK OF VEHICLE. PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO FORD MOTOR CO. BECAUSE THE RUST HAD NOT DAMAGED THE SPOT WELDS, THE HOUSING ASSEMBLY WAS STILL STRUCTURALLY SOUND. DEALER TOLD OWNER TO SAND OUT THE RUST AND SPRAY WITH RUST TREATMENT. *AK *ML
TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER WERE CHANGED AT 25000 AND 45000 MILES. *AK
FORD CLAIMS NOTHING WRONG WITH 3.8 L HEAD GASKETS AND IT IS OK TO SELL JUNK! *AK
THIS YEAR CAR HAS EXPERIENCED MANY PROBLEMS AND FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS. THEY SHOULD JUST TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND ADMIT THIS WAS A BAD YEAR FOR THE TAURUS AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED IN SUMMARY. *AK
PROBLEM IS TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE, WHICH FROM TALKING WITH OTHER OWNERS, AND TRANSMISSION MECHANICS HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE 1991 FORD TAURUS , LINCOLN TRANSMISSIONS DUE TO INTERNAL DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT WHEN CONTACTED SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS TO BE A PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE WORST TRANS. FOR THAT VEHICLE SERIES, EVERY MECHANIC I TALKED TO SAID THIS IS A FORD DEFECT, AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY FORD. ANY HELP ON HOW TO PURSUE THIS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *AK
FRONT CARRIAGE SUPPORT BUSHING FAILED, CAUSING THE STEERING ERRATIC AND THE VEHICLE HARD TO CONTROL. YH
TOLD BY FORD MECHANICS THAT THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE 3.8 (ALSO IN OTHER MODELS) FROM 1991 ON..FORD ONLY COVERED 1994-95 TAURUS . FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSED TO GIVE ME ANY INFO ON THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE WITH THE 3.8 NO WOULD THEY GIVE ME A PHONE NUMBER TO APPEAL BASED ON INFORMATION I UNDERSTOOD TO BE TRUE AND FAIR FROM TWO OTHER FORD DEALERSHIPS
WHILE DRIVING ON A LITTLE COUNTRY ROAD, GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL, VEHICLE WENT OUT OF GEAR. MOTOR WAS RACING. CONTACTED DEALER ,VEHICLE IS THERE NOW. *AK
CONSUMER LOSES STEERING WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT OR PARKING. STEERING WILL JUST LOCK. IF CONSUMER TRIED TO TURN AND MAY MAKE A 360 DEGREE BECAUSE CAR WILL NOT TURN, THIS COULD HURT SOMEONE. *AK

THIS CAR DEVELOPED TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE UPON SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR AT 112000 MILES. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO GET THE TRANSMISSION FIXED, IT BLEW A HEAD GASKET. THIS CAR IS A LEMON & FORD SHOULD TOTALLY RECALL IT. THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER FORD TAURUS VICTIMS OUT THERE. YOU SHOULD LOOK UP THE FORDTAURUSVICTIMS.COM PAGE. *AK

IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE BROKE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO REV UP TO A HIGH SPEED, BREAKING FRONT MOTOR MOUNT, HITTING INSIDE OF HOOD AND DENTING IT. *AK
ON MY 3.8L ENGINE, WHICH FORD HAS HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH, THE HEAD GASKET BLEW, WHICH I BELIEVE LED TO BOTH MY ENGINE FREEZING UP AND A RAPID BREAKDOWN OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, ENDING IN A REPAIR BILL CLOSE TO $1,800.
CAR WAS PARKED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE POWER STEERING HOSE THAT CAUSED SMOKE TO COME INTO THE CAR. CONSUMER CLIMBED UNDER THE CAR WHILE SOMEONE ELSE TURNED THE WHEEL AND A FLAMES SPARKED, CAUSING A FIRE. CAR WAS TOTALLED. *AK *ML
GRINDING SOUND WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING. STOPPED VEHICLE TO INSPECT, UNABLE TO SHIFT GEAR. REPAIRMAN INSPECTED AND INFORMED CONSUME RTHAT TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER LEARNED OF A MANUFACTURER'S EXTENDED SERVICE WARRANTY OF 6 YEARS AND 60,000 MILE. DEALER / MFR. REFUSED TO ACCEPT. ASKING NHTSA FOR HELP IN THIS MATTER. *AK

I TOOK CAR TO LOCAL FORD DEALER JIM CLICK 520-747-2000 6420 EAST 22ND ST TUCSON AZ. 85710 FOR LEAKING TRANSMISSION. SERVICE TECH FOUND 6 MISSING CASE BOLTS FROM PREV REPAIR WHEN TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY FORD UNDER MANDATORY RECALL. FORD NOT WILLING TO COMPENSATE ME FOR REPAIRS OF $600 FOR THEIR FAULTY WORKMANSHIP. I HAVE PAPERWORK CONFIRMING IT WAS FORD'S MISTAKE FOR NOT INSTALLING THE 6 CASE BOLTS SIGNED BY SERVICE MANAGER JASON DAVIS. I NEED HELP RESOLVING MATTER . THX MERLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE, AND THERE WAS A VIBRATION WITHIN THE STEERING. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. HOWEVER, WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WORK WAS DONE, THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. RECALL 93V106.002. *AK
12/12/95 TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL DUE TO RECALL, 06/09/97 TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED BY FORD SERVICE DEPT.(CHARGED SERVICE), 08/27/97 TRANSMISSION WAS CHECKED BY FORDS SERVICE DEPT. DUE TO PROBLEMS(CHARGED SERVICE), 09/05/97 TRANSMISSION FAILS ON EXPRESSWAY 30 MILES FROM HOME HAD TO BE TOWED BACK. CONTACTED FORD SERVICE DEPT. AND FORD MOTOR CO., THEY BOTH CLAIMED NO LIABILITY DUE TO WARRANTY EXPIRATION.
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT 5 MPH, INNER TIE ROD END FRACTURED AT THE ATTACHMENT POINT OF BALL JOINT TO TIE ROD, CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND RUPTURE OF FUEL LINE RESULTING IN A MASSIVE FUEL LEAK. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND REPAIRED. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED AT THIS TIME. *ML
CONSUMER'S SON WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH AND HE STRUCK OR REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT THE SAME TIME, HE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK SHOULDER STRAP DID NOT CATCH WHICH CAUSED TO HIT AGAINST STEERING WHEEL. *YH
