TRANSMISSION FAILURE BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE LUBRICATED.
THE HEAD GASKET BY THE 3RD AND 4TH CYLINDER GASKET IS DEFECTIVE. IT BEGAN BLOWING COOLANT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. CAN SMELL THE ANTI-FREEZE, BUT CAN'T FIND THE LEAK. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT'S IN THE MOTOR. REPORTED BY EDWARD PEART. *AK
WHILE DRIVING HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT AND AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT CAUSED SEVERE INJURIES. THE CONSUMER SET FURTHER THAN 10 INCHES AWAY FROM THE AIRBAG. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE OCCUPANT TO GO FORWARD UNTO THE STEERING WHEEL. *AK.ET.
TRANSAXLE WILL NOT ENGAGE AFTER COMING TO A STOP. L/F BRAKE PAD STAYS PARTIALLY ENGAGED RESULTING IN PREMATURE WEARING OF SAID PAD; LUCKILY, I WAS COMING TO A SLOW STOP WHEN IT GAVE OUT COMPLETELY. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT ANALYZED UNTIL MY SECOND FRONT BRAKE JOB WITHIN 25 0R SO MONTHS. WITH WIPERS IN USE, ACTIVATING THE TURN SIGNAL IN EITHER DIRECTION CAUSES THE WIPERS TO STOP.THIS TENDS TO BRING ON A SLIGHT SENSE OF PANIC DURING A HEAVY RAIN. LIGHTS GO OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THIS SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AT MY EXPENSEAS HAVE ALL OTHER BEFORE MENTIONED PROBLEMS EXCEPT THE WIPER ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN UNEMPLOYED FOR 4 MONTHS AND CAN'T AFFORD FIXING THIS INCONVENIENCE. *AK
VEHICLE WAS UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL CONCERNING A BROKEN WELDED AREA, WHICH A DEALER REPAIRED. LESS THEN THREE YEARS, WELDED AREA REPAIRS FAILED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
WHEN TURNING VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT, IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN &HARD TO CONTROL. ALSO, WOULD MAKE A WHINNING NOISE. AN ONGOING PROBLEM & INCREASINGLY GETTING WORSE VEHICLE WAS NOT TEST DRIVEN BY MECHANIC AFTER TAKING TO DEALER. MECHANIC DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING. ODOMETER WAS READING THE SAME MILEAGE WHEN IT WAS TAKEN IN & PICKED UP.
TRANSMISSION FAILED.
WHILE MAKING A STOP AT A RED LIGHT VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT ANY INDICATIONS. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHILE CHECKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER & SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY NEED TO ORDER THE PARTS. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF RECALL COMPONENT PRIOR TO NOTICE (98S36 (MOUNTS). MJS
RECALL ON TIRES COULD NOT BE COMPLETED PROPERLY (MODEL # AND TYPE) DUE TO LACK OF TIRES AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL WORK. KELLY-SPRINGFIELD SUPERGUARD GT TIRES.
PULLING AWAY FROM STOP SIGN WHEN TRANSMISSION STAYED IN LOW GEAR. TOOK TO DEALER & DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. IT HAPPENED AGAIN A 2ND TIME. ALSO HAD SHIFTING PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS AT DEALER PRIOR TO SHIFTING PROBLEM OCCURRING. *AK
THE RIGHT COIL SPRING BROKE DUE TO CORROSION. SAME PROBLEM THAT ON RECALL FOR THE 1993 TAURUS.
MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED PRIOR TO RECALL. (93V-106)
THE THROTTLE WOULD STICK AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35MPH. WOULD HAVE TO TAKE FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR TO LIFT PEDAL. SPEED WOULD NOT DECREASE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WILL BE TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER. *AK
PREMATURE FAILURES OF THE FORD TAURUS AXOD TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH CARS MANUFACTURED IN 1992 OR BEFORE. THE TRANSMISSION CLEARLY HAS A RELIABILITY PROBLEM THAT FORCES MANY OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THE CAR HAS ONLY 50-60 THOUSAND MILES ON IT. I BELIVE NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER NOT ONLY AS A SAFETY PROBLEM, BUT ALSO TO FORCE FORD TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY AND COVER AT LEAST THE PARTIAL COST OF THE REPAIR.
THE WINDSHEILD WIPERS GET STUCK IN THE DEPLOYED POSITION WHEN TRYING TO SHUT THEM OFF. ALSO WHEN TRYING TO TURN THEM ON, THEY WILL NOT OPERATE. *AK
THE PLANETARY GEARS IN TRANSMISSION HAVE FAILED. FORD HAS MANUFACTURED A NEW GEAR TO REPLACE OLD ONE.
WAS LEAVING FROM THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE WATER BOTTLE FELL AND CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO PICK IT UP, VEHICLE LOST CONTROL/ WENT OFF THE ROAD,RESULTING IN A CRASH. DRIVER'S AIRBAG DEPLOYED, AND THE RESIDUE FROM THE AIRBAG DID SOMETHING TO CONSUMER'S FACE AND LEFT A 7 INCH SCAR. CONSUMER ALSO SUFFERED A WHIPLASH, AND LOST 15 POUNDS. *AK
ENGINE GASKETS WERE DEFECTIVE, AND ENGINE WOULD OVERHEAT. DEALER CONTACTED AND VEHICLE DID NOT COMPLY TO ANY RECALL. REPAIRWORK DONE AT OWNER EXPENSE. *AK

TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP DURING USE. MUST CONTINUE TO PLAY WITH WIPER CONTROLS TO HAVE WIPERS COMPLETE THEIR SWEEP. INTERMITENT WIPER WORKS SOME TIME AND NOT OTHERS. I SAW A RECENT NEWSPAPER NOTICE CONCERNING 1993 FORDS AND MERCURY'S. JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW IT APPLIES TO THE 1992 MODEL YEAR FORD TAURUS ALSO. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR WINDOW WAS OPEN, AND STILL THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED. *AK
VERY DISSATISFIED WITH MY CAR, NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD, ALWAYS A PROBLEM, CAN'T DEPEND ON IT FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME, NOW HAS 3 SPARKS PLUGS FROZEN IN IT BECAUSE OF IT BLOWING A HEAD GASKET AND I DIDN'T KNOW THIS UNTIL TUNE UP TIME, JUST DISGUSTED WITH THE WHOLE ORDEAL. *AK
GAS SPURTS OUT OF TANK WHEN IT'S FILLED, OFTEN SPLASHING ON PERSON FILLING TANK AND SURROUNDING PROPERTY. *AK
OUR 1992 FORD TAURUS 3.8 ENGINE HAD HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS. WE HAD THEM REPAIRED WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS OF HAVING A DECENT RUNNING CAR AGAIN. OUR CAR STILL DOES NOT RUN PROPERLY AND HAS CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. WE HAVE TAKEN IT INTO DAHL FORD IN LA CROSSE AND THEY HAD IT AN ENTIRE WEEK AND STILL THEY COULD NOT FIND OUT WHY MY ENGINE DOES NOT RUN SMOOTHLY SINCE THE HEAD GASKETS WERE REPLACED. WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE 3.8 ENGINE AT ALL. WE FEEL THIS ENGINE (WITH ONLY 48,000 MILES ON IT) SHOULD NOT HAVE BLOWN. WE NOW HAVE 80,000 ON THE CAR AND IT IS 8 YEARS OLD. THE ENGINE IS STILL BAD. *AK
ENGINE HEAD GASKET FAILED,CAUSING LOSS OF COOLANT INTO ENGINE. CAR HAD MILEAGE OF 70, 053. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 3.8L ENGINE. FORD IS EXTENDING WARRANTY ON LATER YEAR MODELS, BUT PROBLEM EXISTED PRIOR TO 1994. I HAD THE SERVICE PERFORMED BY LOCAL GARAGE AND ASKED FORD FOR REIMBURSEMENT BUT THEY REFUSED. NUMEROUS FINDINGS ON THE INTERNET INDICATE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY FREQUENT AFTER 65,000 MILES. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE IS IDLING VERY HIGH AND RACING VERY HIGH. DEALER PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE COMPUTER TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALER COULDN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS DURING LONG DISTANCE DRIVING. *AK
FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE, SHREADING THE TIRE. *YC
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL, RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKES AND POWER STEERING, WHICH LED TO AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 95974 MILES. *AK TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *YH
ENGINE GASKETS FAILED CAUSING ENGINE TO RUN HOT AND HEAVY WHITE SMOKE CAME FROM THE REAR OF VEHICLE. THIS PREMATURE FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED; VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED SINCE PURCHASED NEW.
MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE FAILED SEVERAL TIMES, VIBRATION CAUSED BY FAILURE RESULTED IN TRANSMISSION DAMAGE AND FAILURE.
MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH AND WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED, CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY. MJS
WHILE PARKED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY. OWNER STATES THAT VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTOFIED. *AK
I THOUGHT MINE WAS AN ISOLATED INSTANCE UNTIL I LEARNED OF TWO OTHER OWNERS OF FORD WINDSTARS WHERE I WORK WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND THE SAME PROBLEM. BESIDES THE BLOWN HEAD GASKET, BOTH OXYGEN ANALYZERS HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO LEAKING ANTIFREEZE.
HEAD ON COLLISION /JAW FRACTURE/4 HERNIATED DISCS WICH REQUIRED SURGERY IN NECK,CONCUSSION WITH PERMANENT BRAIN DAMAGE,HERNIATED DISC IN LUMBAR SECTION WICH REQUIRED SURGERY /HOSPITALIZATION TOTALING 40 DAYS/DISABLED CURRENTLEY SINCE ACCIDENT DATE OF 2/12/1998.
TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED. DRIVER EXPERIENCES A VERY DIFFICULT TIME PUTTING VEHICLE IN REVERSE. IN ADDITION, BODY MOUNTS OF THE REAR SUB-FRAME DETACHED DUE TO CORROSION PRIOR TO RECALL (93V-106).

I HAVE HAD 3 FORDS, GONE THRU 4 MOTOR MOUNTS ALL UNDER 50,000 MILES
FORD IS RECALLING THE 1994-1995 MODELS WITH THIS ENGINE FOR THIS PROBLEN, THIS DEFECT IS ALSO FOUND ON THE 1992-1993 MODELS WITH THIS ENGINE WHY DOESNT FORD RECALL THESE MODELS. THEY ARE DEFECTIVE AS WELL? NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED IN THE SUMMARY. *AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL LOW IMPACT COLLISION ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE . THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
