TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD SURPASSED THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. FIDDLED DESPERATELY WITH THE ON/OFF SWITCH & GOT THEM TO COME BACK ON. WENT OUT SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT 30 MINUTES ... DISCOVERED TURNING OFF AND BACK ON FIXED. SUSPECTED IT HAD TO DO WITH THE HEAT. OVER THE TWO MONTH, RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AFTER DRIVING FOR 30 MINUTES OR SO. ALSO FOUND THAT USUALLY PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE SWITCH ITSELF AND JIGGLING WOULD BRING THEM BACK, AND DISCOVERED I COULD HOLD THE HIGH BEAMS ON. FINALLY SEARCHED HERE AND FOUND 98V009000, WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM. HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER ... BUT GAVE THEM RECALL 98S01 (FOUND ELSEWHERE WHEN LOOKING FOR REPLACEMENT PART WHEN I HAD DECIDED THAT IT MOST LIKELY WAS IN THE SWITCH). *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH FAILED AND THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 98V009000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:SWITCH). NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. NHTSA RECALL 98V009000 CONCERNING HEADLIGHT FAILURE. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE HEADLIGHTS CAN FLASH INTERMITTENTLY AS A RESULT OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OPENING. THE VEHICLE'S HEADLIGHTS CAN GO OUT FOR BRIEF INTERVALS. THIS RECALL FAILED. *AK
IMPROPER SEAL ON HEADLIGHTS LEADS TO A PREMATURE AND SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF NIGHTTIME VISIBILITY. I HAVE REPLACED BULBS BUT IT DOESN'T HELP. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE HIGH COST OF PERIODICALLY REPLACING THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IS IMPRACTICAL AS THE CAR AGES. I HAVE CONFIRMED THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER OWNERS. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS. IN MY OPINION, DRIVING THIS CAR AT NIGHT ENTAILS A HAZARD RELATED TO THE DESIGN OF THE HEADLIGHTS SO I AVOID DOING SO WHENEVER POSSIBLE, BUT I CAN'T ALWAYS DO SO. *LA

HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT BULB HOLDERS ARE BRITTLE, BROWN TO BLACK DUE TO BURNING. I HAVE CHECKED 2 OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME TYPE OF HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHTS AND THEY ARE ALSO SHOWING SIGNS OF OVERHEATING AT THE CONNECTION. APPEARS TO BE MUCH THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL ON THE HEADLAMP SWITCH WHICH RESULTED IN A MELTED/ BURNED WIRING CONNECTION.*AK

I KNOW THAT A RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 98V009000) HAS BEEN DONE ON 1993 FORD TAURUS.... I LOOKED THIS UP AFTER I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY HEADLIGHTS GOING OFF AND ON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT MY TAURUS WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGUARDING THIS MATTER AND AM VERY DISSATISFIED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO MY VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW APPROX. 506000 VEHICLES WERE FOUND TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM BUT YET WHEN MY TAURUS ALSO IS AFFECTED (SAME YEAR OF THE RECALL/SAME MODEL) IT IS NOT COVERED. AFTER HAVING THE LIGHTS TURNED ON FOR AN HOUR ON LOW BEAM THE METAL POST HOLDING THE SWITCH ON GETS INCREDIBLY HOT AND THE LIGHTS GO OUT. I HAVE TO PULL OVER PARK THE CAR SHUT IT DOWN AND LET THE SWITCH COOL DOWN AND THEN I CAN USE THE HEAD LIGHTS AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS. IF I SHOULD NEED TO USE THEW HIGH BEAM LIGHTS I CAN ONLY RUN THEM FOR MINUTES BEFORE THEY GO OUT.*AK
