FUEL PUMP FAILED RESULTING IN THE CAR TO STOP WHILE DRIVING.
WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45MINUTES-1 HOUR IN HOT WEATHER WHEN VEHICLE STALLED OUT. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE CAUSE OF STALLING.*AK ENGINE HAS STALLED APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES IN HOT OR COLD WEATHER, DEALER STILL CAN NOT DUPLICATE OR REMEDY THE PROBLEM. AIR CONDITIONER NOT COOLING PROPERLY. *SLC
THE SPEEDOMETER ON THE CAR WAS REPLACED AT 50000 MILES BECAUSE IT JUMPED AROUND AND MADE A RATTLING NOISE. NOW THE REPLACEMENT SPEEDOMETER IS DOING THE SAME THING. THE SPEED AT WHICH THE PROBLEM STARTS IS NOW DOWN TO 40 MPH. THE NEEDLE JUMPS ALL OVER A RANGE OF ABOUT 15 MPH ABOVE AND BELOW THE ACTUAL SPEED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW HOW FAST I AM DRIVING. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH OTHER TAURUS OWNERS AND LOOKED ON THE INTERNET, AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED FOR REPAIRING THIS DANGEROUS (AND APPARENTLY COMMON) PROBLEM.
TRASAXLE SEAL FAILED AND LEAKED ONTO EXHAUST SYSTEM, CAUSING SMOKE.
IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. CAN TAKE KEY OUT OF SWITCH & ENGINE STILL GOING. HAD 2 IGNITION SWITCHES REPLACED DUE TO FAILURE, POSSIBLY AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. ALSO,ENGINE HEAD GASKET HAD BLOWN AT 64,000/FUEL PUMP REPLACED DUE TO OVERHEATING, AND THE AIR CONDITIONER PUTS OUT AN ODOR WHEN RUNNING FOR AWHILE. BEEN TO DEALER EACH TIME ABOUT PROBLEMS. HAD ALSO NOTIFIED MANUFACTURER & TOLD NOTHING CAN BE DONE. *AK
VEHICLE STOPPED SUDDENLY ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE FUEL PUMP RELAY MODULE FAILED.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING FUEL ODOR / VAPOR COMING THROUGH A/C VENT INTERMITTENTLY WHEN A/C IS USED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER SHOP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. *AK
CONSUMER DRIVES VEHICLE DAILY. WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED BETWEEN 5MPH AND 70MPH THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN,LOSING ALL POWER. DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, THERE WAS A HIGH PITCHED NOISE THAT THE DEALERSHIP STOPPED, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL LOSES ALL POWER. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS OF SAME PROBLEM FOUR TIMES. *AK
AIRBAG SPRING/ SPEEDOMETER CABLE FAILURE.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY FOUND OUT THAT CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS COOLING FAN. THEN, VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. CONSUMER HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE WICH DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO VIN. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK

WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETELY OUT, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. OWNER WANTS FORD TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT AND PAY FOR IT. *AK *ML

TAURUS OR FORD WILL NEVER BE NO.1 WITH ME AGAIN. MASSIVE FAILURES KNOWN WITH TAURUS SPEEDOMETER HEADS. SAY SOMETHING IN DODGE VOYAGER AND DOORS FLYING OPEN. WHEN WILL SOMETHING BE DONE? RIGHT NOW IF YOU GOT $250 AND THE TIME AND WILL ACCEPT A 90 DAY OR LOW MILEAGE GUARANTEE. *AK
SPEEDOMETER FAILED WHILE DRIVING LONG DISTANCE. INFORMED BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT SPEEDOMETER FAILURE IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN 1995 FORD TAURUS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE MY WIFE LOST POWER AND OBSERVED WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE REAR EXHAUST PIPE. LATER A MECHANIC AT LITHIA FORD DETERMINED THAT THE CAR BLEW A HEAD GASKET. WE CONTACT FORD BUT THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY.*AK
ATTEMPTED TO STOP VEHICLE AT AN EXIT INTO AN INTERSECTION AND BRAKES FAILED. VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND WENT INTO INTERSECTION, BUT THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES THERE. PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO STOP IT.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND JERKING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM CORNERS/STOPS. ALSO, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS JUMPING AT SPEEDS OF 55-65 MPH.
SPEEDOMETER WAS REPAIRED/REPLACED DUE TO ERRATIC OPERATION WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. LITTER OVER A YEAR LATER SAME PROBLEM REOCCURRED. BUT DEALER/MFR. REFUSED TO REPAIR BECAUSE PART WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. SEEKING HELP FROM NHTSA IN THIS MATTER. BELIEVED DEALER INSTALLED DEFECTIVE PART. *AK
A FAULTY SPEEDOMETER; AT 36,000 MILE DEALER REPLACED SPEEDOMETER BECAUSE INTERMITTENTLY THE DIAL WOULD JUMP BACK AND FORTH OR NOT REGISTER AT ALL. NOW AT 45,000 THE PROBLEM IS REOCCURRING. DEALER / MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED AND REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS COST GOES TO CONSUMER. *AK
VEHICLE CONTINUALLY STALLING, UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE.
WHILE DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED THE SPEEDOMOTER TRAVELS ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP AT THE FULLEST SPEED. *AK
SPEEDOMETOR DOES NOT TELL SPEED, ARROW JUST BOUNCES BACK AND FORTH.*AK THE SPEEDOMETER REPLACED THREE TIMES. *YH
AT ABOUT 50 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE STARTS BOUNCING AROUND BETWEEN 50 AND 85+ MPH (LIMIT OF SPEEDOMETER). AT FIRST, BOUNING WAS INTERMITTANT, BUT AS THE WEEKS & MONTHS WENT BY, IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IT GOT TO THE POINT THAT AT ABOUT 45-50 MPH, THE SPEEDMETER WOULD IMMEDIATELY PEG TO PAST 85 MPH AND JUST STAY THERE. ONLY WAY TO GAUGE SPEED WAS BY OTHER CARS. REPLACED SPEEDOMETER OUT OF WARRANTY IN JULY 1998. WHILE THERE, DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH TAURUSES, THUNDERBIRDS, AND EXPLORERS OF THAT YEAR. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT MIGHT BE A DEFECT VS. A ONE OF A KIND FAILURE. WANTED TO SUBMIT REPORT SO THAT NHTSA & FORD COULD ANAYLZE PROBLEM AND SEE IF A RECALL IS WARRANTED.
I AM AWARE THAT THERE ARE MANY 1995 TAURUS OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SPEEDOMETERS. WHEN I GO OVER 45MPH, THE NEEDLE BOUNCES BETWEEN 45 AND 85. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL SPEED I'M GOING. I WAS FOLLOWING MY PARENTS ON A TRIP, AND MY SPEEDOMETER READ 85 AND FASTER THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE. BUT THEY WERE GOING ONLY 70. IF I WEREN'T FOLLOWING THEM, I WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING MUCH SLOWER THAN THE TRAFFIC, AND THIS IS DANGEROUS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND I FEEL THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS. *AK
PROBLEM WITH STEERING WAS A REAL ISSUE, AFTER 3 PUMPS, DLR REPLACED RACK & PUMP, FIXED PROBLEM. WIPER ISSUE IS INFREQUENT, BUT SCARY; WHEN IN INTERMITTANT MODE, THE WIPERS SOMETIMES STOP WIPING UNTIL I ROTATE THE 'WIPING SPEED KNOB' A FEW TIMES TO OFF & MAX. ALSO SOMETIMES THEY WILL NOT GO DOWN AFTER I SHUT THE WIPERS OFF, THEY WILL STAY IN THE 'WIPERS ON, BUT NOT WIPING' POSITION ABOUT 3 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL SPOT UNTIL THE CAR DRIES OUT. THEN, AS I AM TRAVELLING DOWN THE ROAD, THEY WILL GO DOWN FULLY.
I HAVE HAD SPEEDOMETER PROBLEMS TWICE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR. WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER HITS 50MPH, THE NEEDLE STARTS TO BOUNCE ALL AROUND THE SCALE, AND THE SPEEDOMETER MAKES A BUZZING NOISE. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND HAD THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD REPLACED. SIX MONTHS LATER, SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS TIME THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR SINCE THEY CLAIM I EXCEEDED THE $12000 WARRANTY ON THAT PART. THERE IS A TSB OUT FOR THIS REPAIR AND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME PROBLEM FROM OTHER TAURUS OWNERS (AS DOCUMENTED ON THE WEB). FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THIS DEFECT AND RECALL. *AK

WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES WHILE COMING TO A STOP THERE IS A LOUD NOISE WITHIN THE GAS TANK, AND THE GAS IS SLASHING AROUND WHICH IS HITTING THE WALL. *AK
ALUMINUM TRANSMISSION FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON RETURN SPRINGS SHATTERED AND DEPOSITED METAL THROUGHOUT THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING NOISE, SLIPPING, JERKING AND EVENTUAL FAILURE.
RADIATOR LEAK.
SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE DOES NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT SPEED. WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 45 MPH THE NEEDLE FLUCTUATES. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHAT SPEED CONSUMER IS DRIVING. THE ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER WAS REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO WITH ABOUT 30,000 MILES, AND WITHIN A YEAR THE CONDITION REAPPEARED. THE DEALER IS AWARE OF THE CURRENT PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED AT THIS TIME. *AK *ML
SPEEDOMETER PERFORMS ERRATICALLY WHEN CAR TRAVELS OVER 45 MPH OR MORE, ALSO MAKES NOISE.
REPLACED ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER AT 44,979 MILES, AND AGAIN AT 80,980 MILES. SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WOULD FLUCTUATE AND GET BURIED AT 90 MPH AND DRIVER WOULDN'T KNOW HOW FAST THEY WERE GOING. THE ORIGINAL PART SHOULD NEVER HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, MUCH LESS TWICE IN ONLY 80,980 MILES. CONTACTED FORD, THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, AND WE HAD TO PAY FOR PARTS AND REPAIRS FOR BOTH REPLACEMENTS. FIRST REPLACEMENT OF $295, SECOND (2 YEARS LATER) WAS $500. SAME DEALER. *AK
RIGHT REAR TIRE BELT BROKE.
WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE, INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION NOT ENGAGING FROM A STOPPED POSITION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELLERATE. IT HAS ACTUALLY GOTTEN TO THE POINT NOW THAT AT TIMES IT DISENGAGES EVEN WHILE MOVING SLIGHTLY. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM IN THAT IT SOMETIMES ROLLS OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION, BUT DOES NOT ENGAGE, PUTTING US DIRECTLY INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. MY SONS USE THIS CAR FOR SCHOOL, AND THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS HAPPENED TWICE TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE, AND HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THEREFORE, THE DATE OF FAILURE IS NOT PRECISE. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AND IS HAPPENING MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. IT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED QUICKLY.
