POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. BRAKES MAKE A NOISE LIKE GRINDING METAL AGAINST METAL.
WHILE TRAVELING AT 60MPH, CONSUMER NOTICED SPEEDOMETER WOULD JUMP TO 90 MPH. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, AND REPAIRED FOUR TIMES AND THE PROBLEM RETURNS. VEHICLE IS AT DEALER'S . PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
INITIAL FAILURE OF SPEEDOMETER WAS AT 34,000 MILES. REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT BOB GILLINGHAM FORD. THE REPLACEMENT SPEEDOMETER FAILED AT 90,000. FAILURE BEING THE UNABLE TO SHOW SPEED ABOVE 40 MPH DUE TO ERRATIC NEEDLE BEHAVIOR. SAME FAILURE MODE BOTH TIMES. HAVE HEARD IT WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF SPEEDOMETER, INSUFFICIENT LUBRICATION FOR BEARINGS. FORD IS WELL AWARE OF PROBLEM, SINCE THEY HAVE RECEIVED COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS AND EVEN ISSUED A TECHICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PARTICULAR SPEEDOMETER. I BELIEVE THEY ARE REPSONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE SECOND FAILED SPEEDOMETER SINCE THEY REPLACED THE ORIGINAL WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. COSTS TO CONSUMER TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER IS $600 TO $700. A SPEEDOMETER IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PART. A CAR SHOULD NOT BE GOING THROUGH TWO SPEEDOMETERS IN ONLY 90,000 MILES.*AK
I PURCHASED SAID 1995 FORD TAURUS USED IN JULY 1997, SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE BOUNCING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM (DATE AND MILEAGE LISTED HEREIN IS THE FIRST REPAIR) THE DEALER (LISTED HEREIN IS NOW OUT OF BUSINESS) REPAIRED THE VEHICLE 2 MORE TIMES UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY WITHIN A YEAR. THE SPEEDOMETER BLOCK WAS REPLACED AGAIN A 4TH TIME BY HIXSON AUTOPLEX, THE FORD DEALER IN ALEXANDRIA, LA ON 6 -14-99. NO DIRECTIVE FOR THIS REPAIR WAS GIVEN OTHER THAN TO REPLACE THE SAME PART. IN SEPTEMBER 2000, THE SPEEDOMETER BROKE AGAIN. I RETURNED TO HIXSON AUTOPLEX, EXPLAINED THE SITUATION, AND THEY GAVE ME FORD'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS 800 NUMBER. ALTHOUGH, I EXPLAINED THE CAR HAD BEEN REPAIRED FOUR TIMES BY AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, THE REPRESENTATIVE STOOD FIRM THAT THE REPAIR HAD LASTED 3 WHOLE MONTHS PAST FORD'S POLICY OF A 1 YEAR WARRANTY, THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT HELP. NEEDING A SPEEDOMETER, I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN JENA, LOUISIANA. I WAS TOLD THAT THE SPEEDOMETER PART WAS $500. MY ATTORNEY SENT FORD CONSUMER REPAIRS A LETTER ASKING THEM TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. USING LEGAL GOBBLDYGOOP THAT DID NOT EVEN APPLY TO LOUISIANA LAW, AND BASING THEIR ARGUEMENT ON THE AMOUNT OF TIME BETWEEN THE PURCHASE WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW ( THEY WERE TOLD I HAD BOUGHT IT OVER 2 YEARS LATER) AND MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM DATE. AGAIN, THEY DECLINED TO HELP IN ANY WAY. RECENTLY, I HAVE HAD CHANCE MEETINGS WITH 2 OWNERS OF 95 TAURUSES, BOTH DESCIBED SIMILAR SPEEDOMETER PROBLEMS.*AK

WHILE DRIVING, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE BEGINS JUMPING SPORADICALLY AND CAUSES A WHIRLING NOISE, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS FIRST REPLACED AT 26000 MILES, CONSUMER HAS HAD TO REPLACE SPEEDOMETER TWICE AND CURRENTLY NEEDS A NEW ONE, AND IS REQUESTING THAT MANUFACTURER PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED.*JB
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR 10 MPH FRONTAL COLLISION IN WHICH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. HOWEVER, PLASTIC COVER CAME OFF OF DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG, CAUSING INJURIES TO DRIVER'S EYE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WOULD BE DRIVING VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WHEN IT WOULD STALL OUT. WOULD HAVE NO WARNING OF PROBLEMS. PROBLEM HAPPENS IF DRIVING FOR EXTENED LENGTH OF TIME. BEFORE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTART WOULD HAVE TO WAIT APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR. TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP.*AK
WHENEVER DRIVING IN WARM OR HOT WEATHER VEHICLE WOULD STALL OUT IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HAD CONTACTED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS, AND WAS INFORMED THE PROBLEM WAS A DEFECTIVE IGNITION WHICH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *YD
VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN JUNE OF 1999 FOR RECALL 98V323000. WHEN CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE EXAMINED FOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS SHE WAS INFORMED THAT SUBFRAME MOUNTING BOLTS WERE CRACKED, AND WAS CHARGED FOR REPAIRS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION. *AK
THE HEAD GASKET FAILED, CAUSING AN OIL LEAK IN THE INTAKE.*YD
SPEEDOMETER WILL BOUNCE BETWEEN 50 AND 80 MPH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MAINTAINING A CONSTANT SPEED. DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION.*AK

DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. *AK
CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE IS LOSING WATER AND ANTIFREEZE AND ON OCCASION IS RUNNING HOT AND MISSING. CONSUMER RECEVIED RECALL NOTICE RELATING TO HEAD GASKET FAILURE. HOWEVER, WHEN DIAGNOSED BY DEALERSHIP, DEALER CLAIMED COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. CONSUMER'S PERSONAL MECHANIC FOUND WATER AND ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING DOWN ONTO THE PISTONS AND RUSTING THE SPARK PLUGS, AND CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RADIATOR AND THERMOSTAT. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE HEAD GASKETS, IT WAS REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. *TT

CONSUMER WAS TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR RECALL 97V019000 REPAIRS ON ENGINE COOLANT FAN. ALSO, WHILE CHANGING DEFECTIVE COMPONENT MECHANIC WAS AWARE THAT ENGINE HEAD GASKET WAS DEFECTIVE. BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE 7-YEAR WARRANTY MANUFACTURER WAS NOT RELIABLE FOR COMPONENT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65MPH VEHICLE DECELERATED AND STALLED IN TRAFFIC. GOT VEHICLE STARTED, WENT SEVERAL MILES, AND IT STALLED AGAIN. CAUSE OF PROBLEM UNKNOWN. DEALER CONTACTED. *AK
STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING A SQUEAKING NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED BOTH OUTER TIRE RODS, AND RIGHT FRONT SWAY BAR AND LINK. PLEASE ADD VIN. *AK
SPEEDOMETER WAS'T WORKING, VERY NOISY BRAKES
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IS VERY HARD TO STEER, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE POWER STEERING IS HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE, THE RACK AND PINION HAS BEEN REPLACED YET THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. NLM
THE CONSUMER HAS RECEIVED 3 RECALL, 98S36 FOR SUBFRAME REAR PLATE NUT REPLACEMENT, AND TWO OTHERS 01S30 AND 01M09 RELATED TO THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE ENGINE OVERHEATS WHICH IS PROBABLY DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECALL, THE CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED SINCE IT IS INOPERATIVE AND THE CLOSEST DEALER IS AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING UNUSED FOR ABOUT A YEAR.. *SCC *TS
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE SPEEDOMETER SWINGS BACK AND FORTH, FAILING TO INDICATE THE CORRECT SPEED, THIS MOSTLY OCCURS WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS BEING USED, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL, HOWEVER THE TIME TO FIX IT HAD ALREADY EXPIRED. *SLC

PART WAS SHIPPED FROM FORD WITH FAULTY BOLTS. DEALER PAID OTHER HALF OF THE COST WHICH WAS 147.48. MANUFACTURER CONTACTED. *AK
VEHICLE WAS SMOKING AND THE RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED ALL OVER ENGINE DUE TO A BLOWN HEAD GASKET.*JBCONSUMER VOICED CONCERNS ABOUT VEHICLE TO NO AVAIL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEARLERSHIP WHERE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. *JG

VSS HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE, TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT ONCE, AND SPEEDO GEAR WHICH FITS INTO THE TRANSMISSION HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED ONCE AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. HEAD GASKETS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE, ALSO AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. SPEEDO HAS NOW FAILED FOR THE THIRD TIME.
