WHILE DRIVING AT 25MPH MOTOR MOUNTS CRACKED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SHIFT, AND RESULTING IN ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION DROPPING. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED, THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED TWICE WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.(DAUGHTER ON BEHALF OF PARENTS).*JB
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASION FOR AN INTERMITTENT STALLING CONDITION, THE DEALER REPLACE THE PUMP TWICE BUT THE PROBLEM REOCCURED, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE TECHNICAN FOUND THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO THE FUEL PUMP WAS CORRODED AND PARTIALLY BURNT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING, THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT, THE STARTER FAILED. WHILE DRIVING, THE COIL SPRING BROKE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS MENTIONED IN RECALL NUMBER 04V332000. *AK THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 2-5 MPH. *TC *JB
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 01I011000; FORD RECALL #01S30. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED 11 MONTHS AFTER THE COOLING FAN IN MY CAR FAILED AND CAUGHT FIRE.*AK
ODOMETER IS ERRATIC, ABOVE 50MPH NEEDLE SHOWS ANY READING. DEALER KNOWS ELECTRONIC ANALOGUE CHIP HAS TO BE REPLACED. *AK
SPEEDOMETER WHINES AND DOES NOT SHOW CORRECT SPEED AT 45MPH OR HIGHER. PROBLEM FIRST STARTED YEAR WHEN WE BOUGHT CAR. FIRST SPEEDOMETER REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND SECOND ONE WE PAID FOR OURSELVES. THE THIRD SPEEDOMETER IS NOW GOING BAD. CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY DIRECTLY AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS LOOK ON THE INTERNET. THE NET IS FILLED WITH FRUSTRATED PEOPLE JUST LIKE ME WHO CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW ONE CAR CAN NEED ITS SPEEDOMETER REPLACE SO OFTEN. PLEASE HELP US. FORD MUST OWN UP TO A BIG MISTAKE AND HELP US SOMEHOW.*AK
WHEN CAR IS COMING TO A STOP IT LURCHES FOWARD, IT ALL MOST FEELS LIKE SOMEONE RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR. SOME OTHER TIMES IF YOU DO NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR TO START GOING AGAIN, THE ENGINE REVS BUT THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. THIS LAST 3 TO 5 SECONDS THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS A BANG AND THE CAR LURCHES FOWARD. BOTH THESE ITEMS ARE INTERMITTENT BUT ARE GETTING WORSE. I FEEL THEY ARE A SAFETY ITEM, IT COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO BUMP INTO SOMEONE ELSE OR HESITATE WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. *AK
AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN PRESSING ACCELERATOR, VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. ENGINE REVVS, BUT TRANSMISSION DOES NOT KICK IN. THEN, SUDDENLY VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 1-2 TIMES A WEEK. VEHICLE NOT TAKEN TO DEALER YET. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S ENGINE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM.*MR THE CONSUMER LEARNED OF RECALL ON THE VEHICLE REGARDING THE HEAD GASKET. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF PERFORMING THE RECALL A BOLT BROKE OFF IN THE ENGINE. THE BOLT COULD NOT BE REMOVED, SO FORD AUTHORIZED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE ENGINE. ON MAY 9, 2004 SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE RECALL MONTHS EARLIER. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT HEAD GASKET ON THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE WAS FAILING. IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE REPALCEMENT ENGINE DID NOT HAVE A QUALITY HEAD GASKET INSTALLED.
WHEN VEHICLE REACHES ABOUT 50MPH SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE MOVES AND BOUNCES AROUND SPEEDOMETER.*AK
AT 45 MPH VEHICLE LOST POWER FROM TRANSMISSION TO WHEELS. IT SEEMED TO BE SLIPPING, AND THEN IT WOULD GRAB AND THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH. AT TIMES THERE WAS LITTLE OR NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE TRANSMISSION WAS CONSISTENTLY UPSHIFTING LATE AND DOWNSHIFTING EARLY, AND SOMETIMES SLIPPING. ONE REPAIR SHOP COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. GENE EVANS FORD QUICKLY DETERMINED THAT A FAULTY VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE. (THIS ALSO CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOP). THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR AND THE TRANSMISSION AND CRUISE CONTROL HAVE PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY. THE PART COST $36.58. LABOR WAS $305.46. THE TOTAL BILL CAME TO $369.60. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS COST. 6
FORD HAS BEEN CONTACTED THROUGH THEIR INTERNET CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND BY TELEPHONE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEIR REPLY IS THAT THE CAR WAS COVERED BY A 3 YEAR, 36,000 MILE WARRANTEE. NO OTHER COMMENTS IN SPITE OF NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THEM. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM UNIQUE TO MY CAR. A FRIEND OF MINE WAS FLEET MANAGER FOR A NEW JERSY COMPANY. HE TOLD ME THAT SPEEDOMETER FAILURE WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH TAURUS. MY BROTHERS TAURUS ALSO HAD A FAILED SPEEDOMETER. PLEASE HELP ME GET FORD TO ADMIT THEIR SPEEDOMETER DESIGN IS DEFECTIVE, AND THAT THEY ARE RESPONSILE FOR THE ONGOING FAILURES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL ACT ERRACTICALLY AND WILL NOT SHOW ACTUAL SPEED.*AK. *YH

VEHICLE OVERHEATED/STALLED & COLD AIR WAS COMING OUT OF DEFROSTER WITH HEAT SET AT HIGH. A SMALL AMOUNT OF FREON ENTERED VEHICLE. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOUND THAT GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER EXTENDING WARRANTY TO GET THIS FIXED, BUT MILEAGE WAS OVER 9,000. A SECOND WARRANTY WAS SENT COVERING 100,000 MILES. BUT, CONSUMER DIDN'T RECEIVED IT. *AK *SLC
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH SPEEDOMETER WILL JUMP AROUND. SPEEDOMETER HAD BEEN REPLACED FOR SAME PROBLEM, AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN.*AK THE FIRST SPEEDOMETER FAILURE WAS AT 18000 MILES AND THE SECOND SPEEDOMETER FAILURE WAS AT 30000 MILES. LOUD NOISE ARE ASSOCIATED WITH FAILING AND JUMPING SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE. *YH
COOLANT GETTING INTO ENGINE OIL AND CAUSES PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE. DEALER / MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE TIMING BELT COVER GASKET FAILURE CAUSED COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE ENGINE OIL. AFTER THE GASKET WAS REPLACED, THE ENGINE WAS FOUND TO HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AS THE RESULT OF COOLANT MIXING WITH OIL. *YH
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PUT KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH, KEY DOES NOT GO IN. AT OTHER TIMES, KEY WILL NOT TURN TO START VEHICLE. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK *JB

DRIVER'S AIRBAG COMPARTMENT OPENED UP AND AIRBAG FELL OUT. *AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. FIRE STARTED IN ENGINE AND MOVED INTO THE CAB OF VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
WE WERE NOT GETTING ANY HEAT IN THE CAR. WE ASSUMED IT WAS A MINOR PROBLEM AND TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE HEAT GASKETS WE BAD. WE TURNED IT INTO OUR WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY APPROVED REPAIRS. WE PUT OUT OF POCKET $500.00. WE GOT THE CAR BACK 12/22/00 AND STARTED HAVING ENGINE FAILURE RIGHT AWAY. WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AND WERE TOLD THE SMALL BLOCK WAS BAD. NOW THE WARRANTY COMPANY SAYS THE ORIGINAL REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY A FORD RECALL THAT WE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT. FORD SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. WHAT NOW. WE ARE OUT $500.00 AND NO CAR. *AK
VEHICLE RAN OFF ROAD DUE TO ICE CONDITION, CAUSING BOTH AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY WITH FLAMES SHOOTING OUT ON BOTH SIDES. WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH FIRE BEFORE IT BECAME SEVERE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PORIVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
THIS REPORTED DEFECT IS THE 2ND ONE FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND IT WILL BE IN THE SHOP AGAIN ON 2/6/01. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS THROUGH GEARS, DOESN'T STOP THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND JUMPS OVER GEARS. MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO REVERSE CAN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NUETRAL, OR PARK TO DRIVE CAN PUT THE CAR INTO 2ND GEAR. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START IN PARK, AS IT IS NOT REGISTERING THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. IT CAN NOT BE STARTED IN NEUTRAL ALL THE TIME EITHER, AS THE GEAR SHIFT SOMETIMES JUMPS RIGHT PAST NEUTRAL. TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE STAYS STOPPED WHEN PARKED, I'VE HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR SAFETY. I CAN NO LONGER SAFELY GO TO THE DRIVE THROUGH CAR WASH, AS THE CAR HAS JUMPED THE "RAIL" FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE, AND STOPPED THE WHOLE CAR WASH LINE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 - 50 MPH, VEHICLE REARENDED ANOTHER VEHECLE, AND WAS ALSO HIT FROM REAR. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. DEALER INDICATED VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *AK THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AT HIGH SPEED. THE ALUMINIUM PISTON WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ENGAGING IN DRIVE AND WAS HESITATING. *YH
THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD HAS BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES. ONCE UNDER WARRANTY, ONCE ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND 2 TIMES AT MY EXPENSE. ALL FOUR TIMES USED FORD REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE 1ST 3 REPAIRS USED FORD MECHANICS. AS THE CAR IS LESS THAN 5 YRS OLD AND UNDER 89000 MILES, IT SEEMS EXTRAORDINARY THAT IT WOULD REQUIRE REPLACING THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD EVERY 12 MONTHS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THE FORD DEALER AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAYS, THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. WE WILL REPLACE IT IF YOU WILL PAY ALL COSTS. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS NOTMAL. THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS EXTREMELY LOUD. FORD DEALER SAYS YES, IS LOUD, WORKS FIND. THEY WILL EPLACE AT MY EXPENSE AND IT " WILL BE QUIET FOR A WHILE" THAT IS THE NATURE OF A TAURUS...I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS ACCURATE OR ACCEPTABLE

BRAKES STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY AND STARTED MAKING A SQUEAKING NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC, THEY ADJUSTED BRAKES, AND REPLACED PADS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED EVERY SIX MONTHS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 45-50 MPH VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE. OWNER STOPPED TO CHECK VEHICLE. AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT ANOTHER MILE, VEHICLE DIED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. ENGINE HAS BLOWN A HEAD GASKET. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER.*AK
ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRE. TIRES ROTATED EVERY 7500 MILES AND INFLATED TO MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENED PRESSURE OF 35 PSI. WE WERE TRAVELING FROM MI TO AZ. ON I-40, NEAR JOSEPH CITY AZ, AFTER TRAVELING AT POSTED SPEED OF 75 MPH, WE STOPPED FOR COFFEE AND I CHECKED THE TIRES AS I DO AT EACH STOP. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL INSTEAD OF "IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. " NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED IN SUMMARY. *AK
ON 10.12.2000, WHILE DRIVING ON THE H-1 VIADUCT TO ENTER THE MAIN FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE I WAS DRIVING BEGAN TO PULL STRONGLY TO THE LEFT. I GAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THEN HEARD A NOISE WHICH SOUND LIKE THERE WAS A BUBBLE IN A TIRE. I PROCEEDED ON TO TRY AND REACH A SERVICE STATION, WHEN WITHIN A HALF MILE OR SO, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ON THE VEHICLE BLEW OUT. THE SOUND OF THE BLOWOUT WAS EXTREMELY LOUD AND CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT. THE IMPACT OF THE BLOWOUT WAS SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO STUN ME MOMENTARILY. WHEN I GAINED CONTROL, I PROCEDED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I CONTACTED AAA AND NOTED THAT THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLES RIGHT FRONT AND SIDE PANEL. MY ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE THIS THROUGH MICHELIN WAS TO NO AVAIL, THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT LIABILITY. I HAVE THE REPORTS SUBMITTED TO THEM, PICTURES OF THE TIRE AND VEHICLE DAMAGE AND THE TIRE ITSELF AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. ALL TIRE "EXPERTS" HERE IN HONOLULU ARE ASTONISHED BY THE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE AND NONE BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A RESULT OF MY RUNNING OVER AN OBJECT. ANY ASSISTANCE YOUR OFFICE COULD PROVIDE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I CONSIDER THE TIRES UNSAFE AND AM APPALLED THAT MICHELIN WILL TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH A SAFETY HAZARD. IN NOVEMBER THE DEALER SAID FORD WOULD NOT HAVE REPLACMENT PARTS UNTIL JANUARY NOW THEY ARE NOT SHIPPING UNTIL FEBRUARY. REPLACED IGNITION MODULE WITH A USED PART IN DECEMBER. CAR CONTINUES TO STALL IN TRAFFIC. *AK
WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM ABOUT IGNITION MODULE. IT IS LOCATED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE, AND WHEN ENGINE IS HOT IT WILL STALL. POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WILL GO AT ANYTIME. *AK
IGNITION SWITCH OVERHEATED SINCE IT WAS MADE TO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE. THIS CAUSED VEHICLE TO STALL AND SHUTDOWN. CONSUMER HAS HAD THE PROBLEM SINCE 1995, BUT IN THE LAST MONTH, VEHICLE HAS SHUT DOWN ONCE A WEEK. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT FOUND REMEDY.*AK
AFTER STOPPING, THE TRANSMISSION ACTS AS IF IT'S IN NEUTRAL, THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR. THIS OCCURS PRIMARILY AT STOP LIGHTS AND SIGNS AT INTERSECTIONS AND PUTS DRIVER IN FEAR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF WAY OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC. WE HAVE NOTED SEVERAL POTENTIAL TECH. MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE. THERE WAS RECALL 98V32300/ SUBFRAME CORROSION, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED. *AK THE CONSUMER HAD FOUR MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED. *YH
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE: NO CRANK SOMETIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS. WHEN IT FIRST ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, THEY COULDN'T START IT EITHER. THE NEXT DAY THEY WERE ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS. OBVIOUSLY, THERE WAS NO CHARGE AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME. THIS HAS OCCURED 3 TIMES SINCE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE (PURCHASED USED ON 7/99). INSTRUMENT PANEL: SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE JUMPS AROUND, TYPICALLY AFTER I REACH SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH. *AK
