IN THE EARLY MORNING AND EVENING, THE LIGHT TAN DASHBOARD REFLECTS ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH MAY CAUSE VISUAL DIFFICULTY AND MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, NOTICED A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM OF VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, THEY COULDN;T LOCATE THE PROBLEM. CLUNKING NOISE CONTINUED. MY SON SAID I SHOULD TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON SECOND VISIT TO DEALERSHIP, HAD SERVIE MANAGER DRIVE VEHICLE. IN THEIR PARKING LOT, DROVE OVER A SPEED BUMP, HEARD LOUD CLUNKING SOUND. THE CAR WAS PUT ON THE HOIST, THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEM. A WEEK LATER, RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE STILLING MAKING CLUNKING NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND HAD SERVICE MANAGER RIDE WITH ME. DROVE ON BUMPY SECTION OF INTERSTATE, CAR TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR HAD BROKEN AT THE RUBBER BUSHING CONNECTION. PARTS FOR THE STABILZER BAR HAVE BEEN ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR OVER 2 1/2 MONTH. *AK
VEHICLE CAME WITH DEFECTIVE AUTOMATIC FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT, WHICH DOES NOT RETRACT, WILL NOT LOCK IN POSITION, CAUSING LOSS OF PROTECTION. *AK
THE VEHICLE IN FRONT STOPPED SHORT. HAD APPLIED BRAKES QUICKLY. ABS BRAKES LOCKED UP. VEHICLE ACCELERATED AFTER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. REARENDED VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK
SEAT BELT BROKE.
WHILE DRIVING AND TAKING THE FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AS IT SUPPOSE TO, AND MAY CAUSE A CRASH. DEALER SAID ITS THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. WHILE DRIVING WINDSHIELD WIPERS JAMMED TOGETHER AND STUCK. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
FUEL PUMP FAILURE - NO START
WHENEVER BRAKES ARE APPLIED, STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES. HAS TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 6 DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM. EACH TIME THE ROTORS HAD BEEN CHANGED, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE ACCELERATION WITH BRAKE PRESSURE THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND LURCHED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SEEN BY A DEALER, BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
SEATBELT PROBLEMS WITH 1999 FORD TAURUS. (NAR) *MR THE DRIVERS SEATBELT HAD BECOME UNLATCHED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT WHEN THE MALE SECTION WAS PLACED INTO THE BUCKLE SECTION, NO CLICKING AND OR LOCKING SOUND OCCURRED. *SC *JB *CB
1999 FORD TAURUS BRAKE AND ROTOR EQUIPMENT.*MR THE ROTORS WARPED AFTER MINIMAL USE. THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED AND EXPERIENCED VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING AGAIN ABOUT 4 WEEKS LATER. *NM
VARIOUS PROBLEMS INVOLVING 1999 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON.*MR THE POWER STEERING MADE EXCESSIVE NOISE, DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. THE VEHICLE FRONT END WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER REPLACED SEVERAL COMPONENTS TO CORRECT THIS OCCURRENCE. THE TECHNICIAN REMOVED AND REPLACED #1 COIL, REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS, CLEARED ALL THE CODES AND THEN THE VEHICLE RAN FINE. THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS MACHINED. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE FREEZE OUT PLUG AND THERMOSTAT. WINDSHIELD WASHERS FAILED. THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOOSE. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED FRONT AND REAR STRUTS, SWAY BAR LINKS AND REAR SUBFRAME BUSHING. WHEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND ON COLD START REVERSE JERKS INTO GEAR, DEALER REPLACED THE TRANS UNIT. THE D/S DOOR RUBBER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR WAS COMING OFF. D/S SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT. ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING IN OUT THE REAR BLOCK. *NM
1999 FORD TAURUS WARNING.*MR WHILE DRIVING THE WIND FROM OTHER VEHICLE'S MADE THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE SHAKE VIOLENTLY ALMOST TO THE POINT OF LOSING CONTROL. *NM
CONSUMER HAD TO PUMP BRAKES TO STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. SWAY BAR LINK SNAPPED CUTTING THE RUBBER BRAKE HOSE AND RESULTED IN BRAKE FAILURE. *NM
RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR FORD 04V332000, PARTS PROBLEM. *BF THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS. SIX MONTHS AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL THE DEALER STILL DOESN'T HAVE THE PARTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *HNM
1999 FORD TAURUS CUSTOMER HAS CONCERN ABOUT RECALL 04V332000 **CC THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING FAILED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED A RECALL, HOWEVER WHEN HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, HE WAS TOLD HIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT HIS VEHICLE WAS OVER THE MILEAGE LIMIT. *JB
1999 FORD TAURUS ENGINE IS FAILING. CONSUMER STATES THAT SHE WOULD LIKE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT ANY PROGRAM THAT WILL HELP HER GET HER ENGINE REPLACED. *KB
KEYLESS REMOTE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES HIGH IDLE AND UNWANTED ACCELERATION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS.
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH CONSUMER EXPIERENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 80 MPH. WHILE CONSUMMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. TO FINALLY STOP VEHICLE, CONSUMER HAD TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF IN DRIVE AND COAST VEHICLE TO A STOP. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENING UMWANTED ACCELERATION.
DECELERATES POORLY (WON'T SLOW DOWN) WHEN REMOVING FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR (GAS PEDAL); ESPECIALLY SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. CAN BE REPRODUCED WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN "OD" AFTER THE CAR IS WARMED UP. MIGHT EVEN BE WORSE ON COLDER DAYS (LESS THAN 50 DEG F). IT'S LIKE THE SPEED CONTROL IS "ON"; THE RPMS ON THE TACHOMETER DON'T DROP, AND THE CAR CONTINUES AT THE SAME SPEED OR EVEN ACCELERATES! YOU CAN'T COAST DOWN, IT REQUIRES BRAKING TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN. IT ALSO SEEMS TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP - WHEN BRAKING - BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE WORKING AGAINST THE BRAKES. ON ROADS THAT HAVE A SLIGHT DECLINE, IT REQUIRES YOU TO BRAKE OFTEN TO MAINTAIN THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. DRIVING THIS CAR IS JUST UNNERVING; I'M NOT USED TO USING THE BRAKES SO MUCH. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR BACK TO MY FORD DEALER TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM. ON THE FIRST VISIT (3/16/99), THE SERVICE MANAGER TOOK MY CAR FOR A DRIVE AND AGREED MY CAR HAD A PROBLEM. HE THEN GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE SECOND VISIT WHEN I LEFT THE CAR TO BE WORKED ON. LATER THAT DAY, HE CALLED ME AT WORK TO TELL ME APOLGETICALLY, THAT FORD CONSIDERED THIS "NORMAL"; NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED. HE LEFT ME A COPY OF SSM#12066 (SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE) THAT STATES: "1998-1999 TAURUS/SABLE 1998 & 1999 TAURUS/SABLE 3.0L 2-VALVE, 4-VALVE AND SHO VEHICLES CALIBRATED WITH INCREASED AIR FLOW AT CLOSED THROTTLE TO PREVENT TIP-IN-BUMPS. A RESULT MAY BE REDUCED DECELERATION FEEL AND LESS ENGINE RPM REDUCTION AT CLOSED THROTTLE WITH THE VEHICLE MOVING....NO REPAIR SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED FOR THESE SYMPTOMS AS THEY ARE NORMAL." SINCE FORD HAS AN SSM THAT ADDRESSES THESE SYMPTOMS OTHERS MUST ALSO HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. MY WIFE OWNS A 1997 FORD TAURUS, WITH EXACTLY THE SAME MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION AND IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IT DECELERATES WHEN YOU LIFT YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR UNDER ALL CONDITIONS. I'VE ALREADY CONTACTED FORD BY LETTER AND HAVE TALKED TO THEM ON THE PHONE. I HAVE LITTLE CONFIDENCE THAT THEY WILL BE FIX IT.
TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ALLOW VEHICLE TO DECELLERATE WHEN YOU LET UP ON THE ACCELERATOR, SPEED STAYS CONSTANT. *YC
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES CONTINUED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, UNABLE TO IDENTIFY FAILURE. MJS
I HAVE HAD THREE INSTANCES OF ENGINE RACES TO 3000 RPM WHEN STOPPED IN IDLE AND IN GEAR. DEALER CAN'T REPEAT PROBLEM AND THEREFORE HASN'T FIXED THE PROBLEM. *AK
AN INETRA-ACTUATED SWITCH, LOCATED ON THE RIGHT INSIDE WALL OF THE TRUNK CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO QUIT IF AN UNSECURED LOAD STRIKES IT. THIS CAUSES LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. THIS HAPPENED TO ME IN A CITY-OWNED CAR WHILE DESCENDING A STEEP HILL IN DOWNTOWN SEATTLE. HAD I BEEN MORE SLIGHTLY-BUILT, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL OR STOP THE CAR, WHICH I DID WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY.
WHILE PARKING ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTEDTO TO REV. TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL, BUT VEHICLE CONTINUED TO REV AND THEN RAN STRAIGHT INTO A WALL. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AT VARIOUS TIMES, UNABLE TO IDENTIFY FAILURE. MJS
VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF PARK GEAR, CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLL WHICH RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT . DEALER CLAIMS THIS IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF VEHICLE. *AK
ENGINE WILL NOT SLOW DOWN AFTER THROTTLE IS RELEASED. IT ACTS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE WITHOUT AN ENGINE BRAKE AND QUITE UNSETTLING ON INTERSTATES WITH STEEP DOWNHILL GRADES. CRUISE CONTROL CAN NOT KEEP THE CAR +/- 5 MPH. THERE IS A UNAUTHORIZED FIX ON THE NET. *AK

ANTI FREEZE BLEW OUT OF VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN USE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL .
THE THROTTLE WILL NOT RETURN TO IDLE WHEN GAS PEDAL IS APPLIED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES EXCESSIVELY. DEALER CANT FIND PROBLEM. MJS
WHILE AT A STOP WITH FOOT ON BRAKES VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY JUMP FORWARD ,LUNGES ABOUT 1 FEET AHEAD, CAUSING SAFETY HAZARD. *AK
DIFFICULTY IN OBTAINING TETHER ANCHOR FROM DEALER. PART HAS BEEN ON ORDER FOR 4 WEEKS. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST.
BRAKES FAIL CONTINUALLY IN RAINY WEATHER CAUSING VEHICLE TO SLIDE AND LOOSE CONTROL. MJS
VEHICLE WILL NOT DECELERATE AFTER YOU HAVE REMOVED YOUR FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAN TAKE A HALF MILE OR MORE FOR SPEED TO REDUCE EVEN WHILE GOING UP AN INCLINE. REQUIRES EXTRA BRAKING FORCE TO CAUSE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE REQUIRED HARDER APPLICATION OF BRAKES CAUSES THE FRONT END TO DIVE AND CREATES STEERING PROBLEMS. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO APPLY BRAKES ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY TO PREVENT CAR FROM ACCELERATING WHEN THE DRIVER DOES NOT WANT IT TO. THE CAR DOES NOT SLOW WHEN DRIVER IS NO LONGER PRESSING ACCELERATOR.
THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT SLOW DOWN, WHEN I LET FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR. *AK
THE DRIVER HAS TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO TURN AND STEER THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS POWER STEERING. DEALER SAYS IT'S NORMAL. *AK
UPON SHIFTING VEHICLE INTO GEAR VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT APPLYING FORCE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CAUSING UNWANTED SPEED. ALSO, THE RPMS RACED VERY HIGH. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. DEALER HAS YET TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. PRESSED ON ACCELERATOR TO RELEASE CRUISE CONTROL WHICH FAILED TO RELEASE. VEHICLE CONTINUED AT SAME SPEED. APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN. MOVED TO SIDE OF ROAD & TURNED VEHICLE OFF. RESTARTED VEHICLE & CRUISE CONTROL WAS NO LONGER ENGAGED. *AK

WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED FRONT END BEGINS TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. ALSO, STEERING COLUMN SHAKES. ROTORS AND PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE BY DEALER. REPAIRS DID NOT WORK, OWNER HAD TO GO TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO FIX PROBLEM. *AK *ML
VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE ACCELERATOR, CONSUMER HAS TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE TO ADJUST THE SPEED WHICH CAUSES THE BRAKES TO WEAR QUICKLY. NLM
