THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS EXCEEDING $600. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 45,000. HE DISCOVERED A RECALL PERTAINING TO THE BLOWER CASE/BLOW MOTOR, BUT NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 47,000.
CAR MADE CLUNKING NOISE - SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING TO FALL APART - TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC - HE INFORMED ME THAT ALL 4 SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE TECHNICIAN DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE DAMAGED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. MY A/C BLOWER MOTOR STOPPED WORKING AND WAS FILLED WITH WATER WITH TRACES OF RUST. I OWN A 2002 FORD TAURUS AND UNDERSTAND MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE; JUST RESEARCH THE INTERNET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE REAR DEFROSTER, SHE NOTICED THAT NO AIR WOULD BLOW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS WATER BUILD UP IN THE BLOWER OF THE DEFROSTER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE WHENEVER THE DEFROSTER WAS ACTIVATED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
BELTED FEMALE OCCUPANT FELT HER VEHICLE PULL TO THE RIGHT. AS A RESULT SHE STRUCK A LIGHT POLE HEAD ON. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SERIOUS INJURIES. *TR
FRONT DRIVERS SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE DRIVING. THE SPRING FAILURE RESULTED IN A BROKEN STRUT, LEFT SIDE DRIVE AXLE, AND LEFT SIDE SWAY BAR LINK. *TR
WENT FOR TIRE REPAIR AND WAS INFORMED OF BROKEN SPRING AND TIRE DAMAGE. *TR
WATER APPEARING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR MAT, FAILURE OF AC/HEATER BLOWER. VERY NOISY IN THE BEGINNING LIKE BEARINGS FAILING DUE TO WATER GETTING INTO MOTOR. FAN MOTOR NOW NOT OPERATING AT ALL. WATER LEAKAGE MIGHT BE RELATED TO WINDSHIELD RECALL #03V087000. I JUST DISCOVERED THIS WAS POSSIBLY A RECALL ISSUE AND THE MOTOR JUST QUIT WORKING SO I HAVE NOT RESOLVED THIS ISSUE YET. WILL BE CONTACTING THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO IF ANYTHING. *TR
2992 FORD TAURUS SES HEATER BLOWER SWITCH AND SEAL REQUIRED REPLACEMENT FORD DEALER HAD TSB ON SUBJECT AND NEW PARTS NUMBERS TO REPLACE PARTS UPGRADED PARTS. COST $600.00 FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE PROBLEM AND REDESIGNED THE PARTS, BUT WILL NOT STAND UP AND COVER COST. I HAVE OWNED A HONDA AND TOYOTA AND BOTH WOULD HAVE HELPED WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM. IT IS NO WONDER WHY THEY HAVE BECOME THE TOP SELLERS IN USA. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT EVER. THEY NEED TO STAND UP AND BECOME A AUTO MANUFACTURER, NOT WEISEL WORD AROUND THE PROBLEM. 2002 FORD TAURUS HAS A BROKEN REAR STRUT AND SPRING. I NOTICED ON A VARIETY OF BLOGS/FORUMS THAT THIS WAS/IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED YET AND HAVE NOT CONTACTED FORD YET BUT INTEND TO DO SO. *TR
REAR COIL SPRING BROKE SOMETIME DURING 2006 OR 2007 WHICH CAUSED THE REAR END OF CAR TO SAG AND VEHICLE DID NOT HANDLE AS WELL AFTER WORDS. DURING THE SUMMER OF 2008 MY CAR SLIDE OFF THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING 50MPH DURING A RAIN STORM. I ALWAYS WONDERED IF IT COULD HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE BROKEN COIL SPRING. LUCKILY I WASN'T HURT AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BECAUSE I SLIDE INTO A GRASSY FIELD. THIS FALL 2009 I REPLACED THE REAR STRUTS AND SPRINGS AND NOW MY VEHICLE HANDLES MUCH BETTER. *TR
MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN A LOUD BANG OCCURRED. IT APPEARS THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SPRING HAD BEEN BROKEN FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BECAUSE IT WAS RUBBING A GROOVE INTO THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE. THE LOUD BANG MUST HAVE BEEN THE PASSENGER SIDE BREAKING. THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD HAVE PUNCTURED THE TIRE QUICKLY IF MY WIFE CONTINUED TO DRIVE. I HAVEN'T REPAIRED THE FAILURE YET. *TR
RPM RACES UP AND DOWN INTERMITTENTLY AT ALL SPEEDS SINCE 2008. AT TIMES, THE RPM WILL RACE UP TO 4K (4000 RPM) UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF. FOR THE MOST PART, RPM'S JUMP FROM 900 RPM TO 1500 RPM WHETHER COLD OR HOT EVEN WITHOUT APPLYING THE GAS PEDAL. *TR

FORD ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SWITCHING DEVICES CONTINUE TO BE UNDER RATED WHICH RESULTS IN RANDOM VOLTAGE DROPS AND ENGINE STALLS. THE UNDERRATED SWITCHING DEVICE CONTACTS OVERHEAT WHICH RESULTS IN HIGH RESISTANCE WHICH RESULTS IN HIGHER HEAT WITH RESULTS IN HIGH RESISTANCE UNTIL EVENTUALLY THE RESULTS DROPS VOLTAGES BELOW WHAT IS REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE DOWNSTREAM LOAD. THESE DOWN STREAM LOAD TYPICALLY ARE THE HEAD LIGHTS AND COMPONENTS ASSOCIATED WITH SUPPLYING POWER TO THE SPARK PLUGS. ONCE THE DOWNSTREAM DEVICE TURN OFF FROM LOW VOLTAGE THE SWITCHING DEVICE COOLS AND RESUPPLIES THE DOWNSTREAM LOAD WITH ENOUGH VOLTAGE AN CURRENT TO REACTIVE THE DEVICE IN VARYING AMOUNTS OF TIME RANGING FROM INSTANTANEOUSLY TO SEVER MINUTES. I FIST NOTICED THE PROBLEM YEARS AGO IN A 1987 MUSTANG AND THEN SAW IT AGAIN TONIGHT IN A 2002 TAURUS DRIVEN BY MY WIFE. UNTIL THE FAILED SWITCHING DEVICE IS REPLACED THE FREQUENCY OF FAILS AND THE DURATION WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE. THIS IS CLEARLY A MATERIALS FAILURE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS HAS HAD TO HAVE RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE WHICH HAS RESULTED IN CRASHES AND / OR DEATHS IF THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED SINCE I FIRST NOTICED IN THE 1987 MUSTANG. *TR
STRUT BROKE ON 2002 FORD TAURUS, WHICH IN TURN PUNCTURED TIRE CAUSING THE TIRE TO SHRED, FORD HAS RECALLED THIS IN THE 2001 SERIES BUT NOT IN 2002, YET IT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE AND HAVE IMPACTED MANY PEOPLE IN THE SAME MANOR, SO WHY NO RECALL ON THIS YEARS MODEL. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. NOW THIS REPAIR WILL COST OVER 700.00 TO FIX (INCLUDING TIRE REPLACEMENT), SEEMS TO ME (FROM WHAT I READ) THAT THE RECALLS ARE BASED IN PART ON THE IMPACT TO SAFETY, HAD THIS BLOW OUT OCCURRED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON A HIGHWAY FOR EXAMPLE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGEDY, WHY IS FORD NOT RECALLING THIS PROACTIVE TO AVOID A DISASTER, RATHER THAN WHAT APPEARS TO ME THEY ARE WAITING FOR DISASTER BEFORE REACTING (IN MY OPINION OF COURSE). *TR

MY VEHICLE HAS A WATER LEAK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THERE IS A HARD RAIN. I BELIEVE THERE IS A RECALL NOTICE INVOLVED, NUMBER 03V087000, BUT SUPPOSEDLY MY VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED. EVERY TIME IT RAINS, MY 2002 FORD TAURUS SE LEAKS INTO THE RIGHT PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD. VARIOUS BULLETIN BOARDS, SHOW THAT NUMEROUS TAURUS VEHICLES LEAK. FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. LEAKING CAUSES BLOWER TO MALFUNCTION AND/OR NOT OPERATE AT ALL. EXTREMELY COSTLY REPAIR. *TR

BOUGHT 2002 FORD TAURUS SEL FROM USED CAR LOT, HAD ABOUT 43,000+ MILES IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR LESS THAN A YEAR. IT PRESENTLY HAS 68,000 MILES (700 MILES DRIVEN WEEKLY), ALL HIGHWAY DRIVING. AT ABOUT 55,000 MILES ( I AM GUESSING), I STARTED HEARING A CLUNK. TODAY I WENT TO CHANGE THE BRAKES AND FOUND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SUSPENSION LOW TO THE TIRE. I CARRY NO WEIGHT IN THE CAR. I TOOK THE TIRE OFF TO FIND THE SPRING HAD SNAPPED AND COILED AROUND THE STRUT PERCH. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED OR MISTREATED. I FIND IT STRANGE THAT THIS CAR WOULD SNAP A SPRING SO EASILY IN SUCH A SORT TIME. LUCKILY IT DIDN'T POP A TIRE WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE READ UP ON THE INTERNET TO FIND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR AND MAKE CAR. I HAVE ALSO READ, THAT I SHOULD EXPECT THE FRONT STRUTS TO COLLAPSE. I FEEL FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SELLING A CAR WITH KNOWN DANGEROUS AND POTENTIAL PROBLEMS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES FOR A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND FAULTY SUSPENSION. I HAVE ALSO BEEN FORCED TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR TO THE CARS HVAC SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE READ ON THE NET THAT THIS ALSO IS A KNOWN FORD PROBLEM. I AM FORTUNATE THAT I AM A FEDERALLY LICENSED AIRPLANE MECHANIC, THEREFORE I DO MY OWN REPAIRS. THE PARTS IN QUESTION ARE NOT CHEAP, NOR IS MY TIME. FORD NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO REIMBURSE ALL EXPENDITURES TO REPAIR THESE KNOWN PROBLEMS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL AND ADDRESS THESE KNOWN PROBLEMS. *TR
MY 2002 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON, BROKEN COIL SPRING ON FRONT SHREDDED TIRE, HAD TO REPLACE BOTH SPRINGS, STRUT AND TIRE. I UNDERSTAND THERE WAS A RECALL ON YEARS 1999-2001, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE DISCOVERED, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXTENDED FOR THE 2002 MODELS AS WELL. *TR
I HAVE INVESTIGATED AND DISCOVERED AN UPDATED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 03M02 - SUPPLEMENT REGARDING ADDITIONAL COVERAGE FOR FRONT COIL SPRINGS ON MY 2002 FORD TAURUS. HOWEVER, I AM UNABLE TO GET ANY SATISFACTION FROM FORD AS TO HOW TO CLAIM THIS. MY ORIGINAL ODI CONFIRMATION NUMBER IS: 10234221. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I MADE A LEFT TURN AND MY CAR SEAT TILTED FAR ENOUGH WHERE I HAD TO PULL OVER . THIS WAS AFTER I HAD IT PROFESSONALLY INSTALLED. (RELATED VEHICLE INFORMATION: MODEL YEAR=2002, MAKE=FORD, MODEL=TAURUS). *TR
THE FAN BLOWER MOTOR ON MY DAD'S 2003 FORD TAURUS SE WITH ONLY 33,000 MILES AND ON MY 2002 FORD TAURUS SES WITH 82,000 MILES BOTH FAILED RECENTLY. MY DAD PASSED AWAY JULY 7TH AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO SEAL THE CAR WHEN A PROSPECTIVE BUYER MENTIONED THAT THE FAN WASN'T WORKING. I CHECKED IT OUT AND IT WORK SPORADICALLY. I ENDED UP TAKING IT TO HILLER FORD IN FRANKLIN WI AFTER TALKING TO FORD - THEY WANTED IT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR, RESISTOR AND RAIN HAT WHICH COST $520. THE DAY OF MY DAD'S FUNERAL, THE BLOWER MOTOR ON MY CAR BEGAN TO WORK SPORADICALLY. I TOOK MY CAR TO HILLER FORD AND AUTHORIZED THE REPAIRS TODAY. THE ESTIMATE IS $429 TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR, RESISTOR AND A SEAL. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT IT APPEARS THERE IS A LEAK IN THE POST FOR THE WINDSHIELD AND WATER WAS GETTING BEHIND THE DASH SOAKING THE BLOWER MOTOR UNIT. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD ON AUGUST 22, 2008, THEY CLAIM NEITHER CAR WAS SUBJECT TO THE 2003 WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 03V087000). I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT FORD IS OFFERING NO RELIEF BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THE CARS WEREN'T SUBJECT TO THE RECALL AND THE WINDSHIELD LEAK ISN'T RELATED TO THE BLOWER MOTOR GOING BAD. I'M OUT ALMOST $1000 IN REPAIR COSTS AND I'VE SEEN MANY COMMENTS FROM OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE BLOWER MOTOR AND LEAKS INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. *TR

HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING FAILED. THE CONTACT PAID $350 FOR THE REPAIR; HOWEVER, HIS EXTENDED WARRANTY PAID FOR SOME OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHILE PULLING OUT OF A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST 50 FEET DOWN THE HILL TO HER HOUSE, WHICH WAS NEAR THE STORE SHE HAD JUST LEFT. ONCE SHE WAS NEAR HER HOME, THE CONTACT'S SON HELPED PUSH THE VEHICLE INTO HER PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RUSSELL'S EXXON, WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION HAD FALLEN APART. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 68,000. UPDATE 09/10/08 *CW UPDATED 09/16/08. *JB
I WAS HAVING MY TIRE ROTATED AND BALANCED WHEN THE MECHANIC SHOWED MY THAT I HAD A CRACKED REAR DRIVERS COIL SPRING THAT WAS BROKE IN TWO. THE REMAINING SPRING WAS TRAPPING THE BROKEN PIECE. THE BROKEN PIECE WAS STICKING OUT FROM SPRING SEAT AND HAD TURNED A GROOVE INTO MY TIRE. IT WAS ON THE OTHER TIRE AS WELL. I ROTATE AND BALANCE EVERY 3000-4000 MILE, SO THIS MEANS THAT IT HAPPENED BETWEEN 70,000-74,000 MILES. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE IT QUICKLY GIVEN IT IS VERY DANGEROUS IF THE BROKEN SPRING FRAGMENT SHOULD MOVE AND TURN THE TIRE TO THE POINT OF FAILURE OR PUNCTURE IT. *TR
WATER LEAKS INTO MY 2002 FORD TAURUS. AFTER STORMS THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARD WILL BE WET. APPARENTLY THE WATER LEAKS INTO THE CAR AND AFTER PASSING THROUGH THE BLOWER BOX DRIPS ONTO THE CARPET. MY BLOWER RESISTOR FAILED YESTERDAY AS A RESULT OF THE WATER POOLING INTO THE BLOWER MOTOR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. *TR
FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROOK ON MY 2002 FORD TARUS SEL. *TR
DRIVING HOME FOR A LUNCH BREAK, AND AS I AM DRIVING IT SOUNDS/FEELS LIKE SOMETHING SNAPS I LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR HIT A TREE. GOT OUT OF VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE LOOKED SHREDDED. ONCE TOW AGENCY ARRIVED THEY NOTICED THE FRONT COIL HAD BROKE WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE TIRE BEING SHREDDED. MY VEH IS NOW IN REPAIR AND NEEDING A NEW FRONT COIL. *TR PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATES (JULY 9, 2008): THE CONSUMER SAID THAT IT WAS A CLEAR DAY, THE ROAD WAS DRY AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 40 TO 45 MPH ON THE LEFT OF TWO NORTH BOUND LANES. SUDDENLY A CORNER OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DROPPED AND THE VEHICLE SPUN COUNTER-CLOCKWISE ABOUT 90 DEGREES CROSSING THE TWO SOUTH BOUND LANES, HOPPED OVER THE CURVE (ROUNDED CORNER) AND STRUCK A TREE. THE CONSUMER SAID THAT SHE PAID $900 TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER. THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT SHE HAD NO TIME TO REACT TO PREVENT THE CRASH WHEN THE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE ON HER VEHICLE.

THE HEATER/AC BLOWER OF MY 2002 FORD TAURUS ONLY WORKS ON HIGH. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR WILL COST ME $660.00. THIS ESTIMATE INCLUDES A "FIX" FOR A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW. EVIDENTLY WATER LEAKS INTO THE VEHICLE FROM SOMEWHERE AROUND WHERE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RESISTOR AND MOTOR. I NEED A BLOWER MOTOR, UPDATED (FIX) COWL, AND RESISTOR. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY HEARD RUBBING NOISE FROM REAR OF CAR, STARTED PULLING FORWARD TO DRIVE AWAY STOPPED TO INVESTIGATE SOURCE OF NOISE, THOUGHT IT WAS FROZEN BRAKES, LOUD NOISE AND REAR TIRE EXPLODED. PUT ON SMALL SPARE TIRE AND DROVE TO WORK. AFTER WORK STOPPED AT TIRE SHOP FOR NEW TIRE, THEY SHOWED ME DAMAGE TO TIRE CAUSED BY BROKEN REAR SUSPENSION SPRING. TOLD ME ABOUT BEING A FREQUENT EVENT FOR FORD TAURUS?S. THERE IS A RECALL ON 2001 FORD TAURUS FOR FRONT SPRINGS, MY CAR IS A 02 TAURUS AND IT WAS THE REAR SPRING. CALLED FORD THEY WERE NO HELP OTHER THAN SAY I SHOULD CONTACT NHTSA. *TR
BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, HEARD UNUSUAL GRINDING/RUBBING SOUND. BROUGHT CAR INTO LOCAL MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SUSPENSION COIL SPRING HAD SNAPPED AND HAD RUBBED AGAINST THE TIRE, WEARING A GROOVE INTO IT. THIS HAD THE POTENTIAL FOR A TIRE BLOWOUT AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER INVESTIGATING FORD COIL PROBLEMS ON THE INTERNET AND FOLLOWING MECHANIC RECOMMENDATION, DECIDED TO REPLACE BOTH REAR SPRINGS AND STRUTS. ALSO FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS BUT ONLY UP UNTIL THE 2001 MODEL YEAR. THERE IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THESE SPRINGS AND THE RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE FRONT AND BACK SPRINGS AS WELL AS EXTENDED TO LATER MODEL YEARS. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TODAY TRAVELING AT 60MPH WHEN THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. HE SAID HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE THEN FOLLOWED RUBBING AND MORE LOUD NOISES. HE ALSO SAID THAT HE COULD FEEL THE CAR PULLING INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HE PULLED THE CAR OVER TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED AND HE NOTICED THAT THE SPRING WAS BUSTED. HE THEN HAD TO CALL AAA AND HAVE THE CAR TOWED. THE VEHICLE IS A 2002 TAURUS WITH AROUND 64000 MILES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS SO CALLED SPRING PROBLEM. WE FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY FORD ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAD TO PAY FOR NEW SPRINGS ON MY 2001 TAURUS ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. WHEN WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE CAR WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE COIL SPRING RECALL AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. WHY ISN'T THIS PARTICULAR CAR UNDER THE RECALL AND OUR '01 TAURUS IS? THIS CAR WAS MADE IN 2001 AND WE PURCHASED IT NEW IN 2002. I AM LOOKING FOR ANSWERS AND IM NOT HAVING ANY LUCK GETTING ANY STRAIGHT ONES. I THINK ALL THESE CARS WITH THESE PARTICULAR SPRINGS SHOULD BE RECALLED EVEN IF ITS THE REAR SPRINGS ALSO. IM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TAURUS NOW. MY FAMILY DOESN'T FEEL SAFE AT ALL TRAVELING IN THEM AND NEITHER DO I. THIS IS AGAIN A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND I HOPE THAT YOU RECALL THESE VEHICLES SO NO ONE ELSE HAS TO GO THROUGH WHAT MY HUSBAND HAD TO GO THROUGH. I HAVE A 2002 FORD TAURUS WHICH HAS EXPERIENCED 2 SUSPENSION SPRING FAILURES IN THE LAST YEAR. THE REAR LEFT OCCURRED ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO AND THE MOST RECENT WAS THE FRONT LEFT ON 6/26/08. THE FRONT SPRING FAILURE WAS IN A PARKING LOT AS I WAS BACKING OUT, WITH THE SPRING PUNCTURING THE TIRE WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE HAS 105K MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. IN BOTH CASES THE SPRINGS AND STRUTS WERE REPLACED, ALIGNMENT PERFORMED AND IN THE CASE OF THE FRONT, I HAD TO HAVE TWO NEW TIRES IN ORDER TO HAVE A MATCHED PAIR. *TR
FAILURE OF REAR COIL SPRING. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD TAURUS THAT HAD THE DRIVER SIDE SPRING BROKE THIS MORNING, FORTUNATELY IN THE DRIVE WAY, RESULTING IN A BROKEN AXLE AS WELL. IN RESEARCHING ON LINE, I FOUND THAT MODEL YEARS 1999 TO 2001 HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND ALTHOUGH IT IS APPARENTLY HAPPENING ON 2002 MODELS (BASED ON INTERNET DATA) I CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER ON FORD'S WEBSITE AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS. MY SON USES THIS CAR AS WELL AND I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF HE WAS ON THE ROAD DRIVING WHEN THIS SPRING BROKE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PULL OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY, HE HEARD THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE DEFLATE. HE ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING FAILED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 92,000.

THE FLOOR ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE OF THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY WET AFTER A BIG RAIN AND KEPT GETTING WET FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER THE RAIN. NOTHING WAS DONE, OTHER FORD TAURUS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT MINE. *TR
