I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 FORD TAURUS (WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR )WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES ALMOST HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND RETRIEVED A PIECE OF A SUSPENSION: SPRING COIL. IT APPEARS TO BE ONE OF THE FRONT SPRINGS. DISASTER WAS AVERTED, BARELY.. I NOTICED THAT THIS PARTICULAR PART WAS RECALLED IN 1999-2001 MODELS. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS PART (WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME PART) WAS NOT RECALLED IN THE 2002 MODEL. REPAIRS HAVE NOT BEEN COMPLETED AS I FEEL THIS SHOULD NOT BE MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY. THIS WAS DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE.... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE FRONT DRIVER'S TIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO INSTALL THE SPARE TIRE AND DRIVE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FRONT STRUT ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLED A NEW TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND WOULD PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT LEFT SPRING WAS BROKEN. THE MECHANIC REPLACED BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AND STRUTS. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. UPON INSPECTION, SHE SAW THAT THE FRONT RIGHT SPRING WAS BROKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THE FRONT SPRINGS AND STRUTS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT SHE WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,119. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,124.
2002 FORD TAURUS SE STATION WAGON FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MILES PER HOUR ON CITY STREET. SEVERALLY GOUGED, BUT DID NOT PUNCTURE, LEFT FRONT TIRE. TIRE, HOWEVER, DID HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN ADDITION TO THE SPRING AND STRUT ASSEMBLY. ALSO REPLACED RIGHT FRONT SPRING AND STRUT ASSEMBLY DUE TO SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
I HAD TO REPLACE A FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING ON A 2002 FORD TAURUS AFTER IT COLLAPSED WHILE SHE WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. SHE HAD TRAVELED @200 MILES IN THE PREVIOUS TWO DAYS WITH PASSENGERS IN THE CAR WITHOUT INCIDENT AND HAD NO INDICATION THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. AS AN OWNER I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF ANY POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD BY THE MANUFACTURER SO WE COULD HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND WORK DONE TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. I WOULD RATHER HAVE THE OPTION TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS BEFORE THE COIL FAILED, AS HAD THIS HAPPENED WHEN SHE WAS TRAVELING IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC EVENT. *TR

AFTER SOME RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS EXTREMELY COMMON ON THE 2002 FORD TAURUS AND THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE CHRONIC NATURE OF THIS ISSUE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING FRACTURED. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF FACTORY WARRANTY. REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
I JUST PURCHASED A 2002 FORD TAURUS WITH 40, 673 MILES. I HAD THE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTED AND REVEALED THAT BOTH REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. I LEARNED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THE 2002 TAURUS, AFTER THE FACT THAT I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. MY DEALER IS REPLACING THEM AT NO CHARGE, BUT I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE THE FRONT SPRINGS. HOW CAN A VEHICLE WITH 40,500 MILES HAVE BROKEN SPRINGS? I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY YOUNG FAMILY DRIVING ON THE ROADWAYS IF ALL THE SPRINGS ARE NOT REPLACED, AND THE 2002 TAURUS IS NOT RECALLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 10 MPH, THE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE WITH THE FONT COIL SPRING AND THE MANUFACTURER TOOK THE LIABILITY FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CURRENT FAILURE WOULD ONLY BE REPLACED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 118,497.

FRONT COIL SPRING SNAPPED AND PUNCTURED TIRE. RESULTING IN A FLAT TIRE. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING SLOWLY FROM A PARKING SPOT. THE SPRING WAS REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED A LOUD, CLICKING NOISE SO HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 172,000.
2002 SEL NOTICED RUNNING A LITTLE LOW IN THE REAR, BEFORE I TOOK OFF FOR MY 140 MILE DRIVE TO THE RACE TRACK (I AM A CHAPLAIN) I DECIDED TO PULL ONE REAR TIRE AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE SUSPENSION. SAW NO PROBLEMS, WAS ABOUT TO PUT IT ALL BACK, WHEN MY TIRE (THANKS GOD) FLIPPED OVER AND I SAW A GROOVE. WHY WOULD MICHELIN PUT A GROOVE LIKE THAT IN THE SIDEWALL? I WAS STUMPED AND THOUGHT IT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD RUBBED, SO I STARTED LOOKING - THE LOWER COIL OF THE SPRING HAD POPPED OUT AND WAS WORN SHINY FROM THE CONTACT WITH THE TIRE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING LIKE THAT FOR PROBABLY 1000 MILES. WENT AND BOUGHT A NEW STRUT ASSEMBLE AND NOW I AM TRYING TO GET THE LOWER PINCH BOLT OUT! THEN I NEED TO GO BUY A NEW TIRE. *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A POP AND AIR RELEASING FROM TIRE. WHILE CHANGING THE TIRE MY HUSBAND NOTICED THAT IT WASN'T JUST A NORMAL FLAT BUT THE SPRING HAD BROKEN AND PIERCED THE TIRE. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND IS CURRENTLY WITH MY MECHANIC AND THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO ONLY REPLACE BOTH THE SPRINGS AND THE ONE TIRE. *TR
DRIVING ALONG WITHOUT INCIDENT AND HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. SAW THAT MY TIRE WAS BLOWN AND SMOKING SO WENT TO PUT THE SPARE ON. ONCE CAR WAS JACKED UP TO CHANGE TIRE, THE FRONT COIL SPRING FELL DOWN. NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN AND HAD TORN INTO MY TIRE (THUS CAUSING A HUGE GASH IN MY TIRE AND SMOKE). FOUND THIS TO BE QUITE UNUSUAL AND QUITE DANGEROUS HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THAT BEING THE CASE, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM FOR THE 2002 FORD TAURUS MODEL. APPARENTLY FORD HAD RECALLS FOR MODELS UP UNTIL 2002 FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM HOWEVER THE 2002 MODEL HAS YET TO BE INCLUDED. CONTACTED A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD REPAIRS WOULD COST AT LEAST 600.00. PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED. FRONT COIL SPRING HAD NO RUST THEREFORE SHOULD NOT HAVE JUST BROKEN APART. THIS IS AN APPARENT DEFECT AND FORD NEEDS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE. THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS PUNCTURED AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO YEARS AGO. RECENTLY, THE REAR RIGHT COIL SPRING BROKE WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,000.
2002 FORD TAURUS FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SPRING BROKE WHEN REVERSING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, DESTROYED TIRE SIMILAR TO THE 1999 - 2001 MODELS THAT WERE RECALLED. *TR
DRIVING 2002 FORD TAURUS WITH 3 KIDS IN CAR AND GOING 55 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SPRING POPPED AND STRUT WENT INTO TIRE. BARELY GOT OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT STEER. WAS TOLD IT WAS UNDER RECALL BUT IT WASN'T. IT WAS THE 2001 FORD TAURUS THAT WAS ON RECALL. HAD TO PAY $545 TO GET FIXED. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THE ENGINE ETC IS 2001 MODEL BUT SHELL OF CAR IS 2002. *TR
THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE SIDEWALL OF TIRE RESULTING IN A BLOWOUT. *TR
BOTH REAR SPRINGS BROKE ON MY 2002 TAURUS AT THE SAME TIME. THE BROKEN SPRING ALSO DAMAGED THE REAR TIRES. MY MECHANIC WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE THE CAR TILL IT WAS REPAIRED BECAUSE THE BROKEN SPRINGS WERE STICKING INTO THE REAR TIRES. *TR
REAR COIL SPRINGS FAILED AFTER 74,000 MILES. THIS WAS DISCOVERED DURING A SAFETY INSPECTION. THIS FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FAIL THE SAFETY INSPECTION AND BY STATE LAW IS NOT DRIVEABLE UNTIL REPAIRED. SPRINGS HAD SPLIT AND WERE PARTIALLY COLLAPSED. THIS CAR IS NOT DRIVEN ON ROUGH ROADS, USED TO TOW OR CARRY ANY HEAVY LOADS. THE COST TO REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT $635 BY A FORD DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THAT THESE SPRINGS FAILED DUE TO DEFECTIVE OR INADEQUATE MATERIALS.
THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SNAPPED, AND JETTED INTO THE TIRE, CAUSING AIR TO LEAK AND A CIRCULAR RUT AROUND THE ENTIRE INSIDE RIM OF THE TIRE. LEFT DRIVER AND PASSENGERS STRANDED AND RESULTED IN ALMOST $600 IN REPAIRS. *TR
LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE INTO 3 PCS., PUNCTURED TIRE AND SHATTERED COMPOSITE STABILIZER LINKAGE. I WAS BACKING UP IN PARKING LOT TO LEAVE WORK WHEN I HEARD AN EXPLOSION, THE CAR DROPPED TO PAVEMENT AND SMOKE BLEW OUT FROM AROUND TIRE AND MOTOR. I AM CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL IN ORDER TO HAVE CAR PICKED UP BY A DEALER TO HAVE REPAIRED. THE CAR CAN NOT BE DRIVEN. THERE IS NO CORROSION OR WEAR ON THE COIL SPRING. THE CAR HAS 7100 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT IT USED AT A DEALERSHIP IN PHILADELPHIA PA 5 YEARS AGO.
ENTERING DRIVEWAY, RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT AND CAR "CLUNKED" TO GROUND! HAD DIFFICULT TIME TO GET THE CARJACK UNDER CAR..BECAUSE IT WAS SO LOW, NO REALIZATION AT THAT TIME THAT SPRINGS WERE GONE. REPLACED WITH DONUT SPARE, WHILE DRIVING TO REPAIR SHOP NEXT DAY, CAR STARTED SMOKING AND SMELLING LIKE BURNING RUBBER. SMOKING A LOT. BOTH TIRES IN FRONT BURNING UP. MADE IT TO REPAIR SHOP, WAS TOLD BOTH FRONT SPRINGS WERE GONE, AND BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE GONE. HAD TO REPLACE SPRINGS AND TIRES IN FRONT END = $516.25. WAS TOLD I WAS LUCKY TO MAKE TO TO REPAIR SHOP WITH ALL THE SMOKE AND BURNING RUBBER. WAS ALSO TOLD I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WAS ALSO TOLD THIS HAPPENS OFTEN IN 2002 TAURUS MODEL. I DO NOT KNOW IF REPAIR SHOP KEPT THE OLD SPRINGS. I WAS TOO ANGRY TO ASK. THE TIRES LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE TOOK A CAN-OPENER TO THEM AND SLICED THEM WIDE OPEN. VERY ANGRY. *CN
I HAVE A 2002 FORD TAURUS SEL. YESTERDAY MY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE GOT STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 45 IN HOUSTON DURING THE EARLY EVENING. BRAKING HELPED SLOW THE CAR DOWN, BUT IT WOULD ACCELARATE BACK UP AGAIN AS SOON AS THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED. MY SON WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY, BUT ONLY BY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WITH IT STILL REVVING UP PAST 5000 RPM. HE TURNED OFF THE CAR WHEN ON THE SERVICE ROAD AND IT CAME TO A SAFE STOP. WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED UP AGAIN, IT WOULD REV BACK UP. MY OLDEST SON AND I MET UP WITH HIM, AND WHEN WE OPENED THE HOOD OF THE CAR, THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THERE IS A SMALL NICK AND CRACK IN THE OUTSIDE HOUSING OF THE CABLE THAT IT GOT HUNG UP ON. MY SON DISABLED THE CRUISE CONTROL SO THAT WE COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. I HAVE A PICTURE OF THE HOUSING AND HAVE PUT A CALL IN TO MY DEALER, CHAMPION FORD IN HOUSTON, THIS MORNING. I AM WAITING FOR THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THERE TO CALL ME BACK NOW.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20MPH, HE NOTICED A CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
I OWN A 2002 FORD TAURUS SES, IT HAS 69,400 MILES. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE NEW, IT IS GARAGED 90% OF THE TIME. A COUPLE YEARS AGO I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER CARPET WAS SOAK AND WET, AND I NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING OF IT, I ASSUMED THAT MAYBE WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN, I HAD CRACKEDTHE WINDOW OPEN AND RAIN GOT INSIDE ON PASSENGER CARPET. IN MARCH OF 2010, I HAD A HOUSE SITTER, WHILE I WENT ON VACATION. I MOVED MY CAR OUTSIDE, SO THAT SHE COULD USE MY GARAGE. THE CAR SAT OUTSIDE FOR 3 WEEKS, THE NORTHEAST HAD TORRENTIAL RAINS EVERYDAY, AND AREA FLOODING ON STREETS. I HAD COME HOME FROM VACATION, DROVE MY CAR AND HEARD A NOISE CLANKING UNDER DASHBOARD. I TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC, HE SAID IT WAS MY HEATER. I HAD MY HUSBAND REMOVE AND REPLACE WITH A NEW ONE. WHEN MY HUSBAND TOOK THE OLD HEATER OUT, IT WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED WITH WATER STILL ON IT. I THOUGHT MAYBE HOUSESITTER HAD TAKEN MY CAR OUT AND SHE LEFT A WINDOW OPEN.NOW IT IS OCTOBER, I AM ATTENDING DRIVING INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL, AND MY TEACHER GAVE ME WEBSITE FOR RECALLS. I DECIDED TO CHECK TO SEE IF ANY RECALLS, AND FIND THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL, FOR HEATERS SHORTENING OUT ,I NOW HAVE NO A/C AND DON'T KNOW WHY ALONG WITH WET CARPETS ON PASSENGER SIDE L. I PRINTED OUT RECALL 03V-087000 AND TOOK TO FORD TODAY, THEY STATE THAT MY VIN HAS NO CAMPAIGN MESSAGE FOR A RECALL. RECALL#03V-087000 IS FOR CERTAIN 2002-2003 TAURUS AND SABLES. WHAT IS BEING DONE WITH THE REST OF VIN # THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE NOT INCLUDED. I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE MY CAR IN RAIN AND GET OTHER COMPONENTS SHORT OUT, OR POSSIBLE FIRE, AND KEEP GETTING THE CARPET WET, BECAUSE IT WILL CAUSE MOLD TO GROW UNDERNEATH. ALL CARS IN THIS YEAR MAKE MODEL SHOULD BE RECALLED IF ALL ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I DID NOT SAVE THE OLD HEATER, BECAUSE AT THE TIME I THOUGHT MAYBE RAIN HAD GOT IN THRU THE WINDOW. MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME IN HIS 2002 TAURUS, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. FORTUNATELY HE WAS NOT FAR FROM THE HOUSE AND HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME. I WAS UPSET BECAUSE I HAD JUST REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES ON 1/3/10. AS WE PROCESSED TO CHANGE THE TIRE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSING THE TIRE TO BLOW OUT. I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE COIL SPRINGS BREAKING, WHEN I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED BACK IN JANUARY. THE COMPLAIN NUMBER FROM THAT INCIDENT IS 10297845. I WAS TOLD BY THIS OFFICE AND BY THE FORD MOTOR CO. THAT THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM. HERE IT IS ALMOST 4 MONTHS LATER AND I HAVE NOT HEARD A THING!!. THE RIGHT FRONT SPRING FOR THE STRUT RUSTED OUT AND RIPPED OPEN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. CAR HAS 70,000MILES. RECALL TO INSTALL SHIELD SO SPRING CAN'T RIP TIRE WAS DONE FOR ALL MODELS UP TO 2002. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. ON LINE REPORT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR INDICATE NUMEROUS OWNERS HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM,
17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS PULLING OUT OF PARKING AREA AND FRONT DRIVER-SIDE TIRE POPPED ON 2002 FORD TAURUS. SHE CALLED AAA AND HAD TO HAVE FLAT TIRE CHANGED BUT WAS INFORMED HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE THE COIL BUSTED AND PUNCTURED HER TIRE. PREVIOUSLY IN SEPTEMBER 2009, WE HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON THE CAR AND ONE OF THE BACK SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND HAD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BEFORE PUTTING ON THE TIRES. *TR

WHILE GETTING IT CHANGED, IS WHEN WE REALIZED THE COIL/SPRING HAD SNAPPED. THE MACHANIC SAID IN HIS 35 YRS OF EXPERIENCE, HE HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A THING. AND TOLD ME TO LOOK FOR A RECALL. AFTER READING THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THE FRONT AND BACK COIL/SPRING SNAPPING. I HAD ALL 4 REPLACED, FRONT END ALINEMENT, AND A NEW TIRE. COSTING ME 793.65!!!!!!!!

TRIED TO USE IT TONIGHT, MOVED A FEW INCHES, SEEMED LIKE SOMETHING WAS HUNG UP. THERE WAS A SOUND OF SOMETHING RUBBING AGAINST RUBBER. EXAMINED SUSPENSION BEING CLOSER TO THE GROUND THAN USUAL. FOUND FRONT DRIVER SIDE SPRING BROKEN NEAR THE BOTTOM. IT HAS EXTENDED PAST THE BRACKET WHICH HOLDS IT. IT IS PUTTING EXTREME PRESSURE ONTO THE TIRE. IF I WAS TO DRIVE IT FURTHER, IT WOULD MOST DEFINITELY PUNCTURE THE TIRE AND CAUSE MORE DAMAGE TO OTHER PARTS OF THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT KNOW THE STATUS OF THE STRUT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,500 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,440.
I HAVE A 2002 FORD TAURUS SE V6. THE LEFT FRONT SPRING BROKE AND BEGAN TO RUB THE TIRE. I WAS ONLY DOING ABOUT 30 MPH AT THE TIME ON A SMALL ROAD AND COULD PULL OVER IN ABOUT 300 FEET. THIS CAR ALSO HAD TWO REAR SPRINGS BREAK ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR HAS 117,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD A 1999 TAURUS THAT HAD A RECALL THAT INSTALLED A SHIELD AROUND THE SPRING TO PREVENT A SPRING BREAK FROM SHREDDING THE TIRE. THIS IS AN UNSAFE DESIGN. IF I WERE GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED, POSSIBLE ROLLOVER. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE TIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE STRUT ASSEMBLY SPRING AND THE LEFT SWAY BAR LINK WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY AND HAD NO OPEN RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,781.
ON THE MORNING OF MARCH 1ST, 2010 MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUR 2002 FORD TAURUS OUT OF THE GARAGE WHEN THE TIRE BLEW. UPON INSPECTING THE CAR I NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND CONTACTED THE TIRE RESULTING IN TIRE FAILURE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT A COIL SPRING HAS BROKEN AND BLOWN A TIRE. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2006. WE LIVE IN FRANKLIN MASSACHUSETTS. WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2002 FROM ACTON FORD. FORD DID NOT OFFER TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. FRANKLIN FORD MENTIONED THAT IT WAS A CAMPAIGN AND THE CAR WAS NOT COVERED. MY WIFE AND I RECENTLY SOLD THE CAR FOR PARTS TO A TOYOTA DEALER. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF PEOPLE DRIVING THESE CARS THAT ARE UNAWARE OF THE POTENTIAL DANGERS. I'M THANKFUL THAT MY FAMILY WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE TIRE BLEW.
