WHEN DRIVING MY 2005 FORD TAURUS OR PARKED WIRH ENGINE OPERATING, IT HESITATES AND ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND AFTER SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM CLEANING, I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW.
WHILE IDLING, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS ON, AND REACHED 60 MPH BEFORE IT COULD BE BRAKED DOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE IDLING, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE REVVED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL UNTIL THE ENGINE STOPPED REVVING. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WAS FEARFUL OF A POTENTIAL CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AT POSTED SPEED, ENGINE REVVED EXCESSIVELY AND NEEDED TO DO HEAVY BRAKING TO GET VEHICLE STOPPED. PROBLEM WENT AWAY AFTER STOPPING, TURNING VEHICLE OFF FOR A COUPLE MINUTES THAN THEN RESTARTING. ABOUT 10 MILES EARLIER, TRIED TO USE CRUISE CONTROL BUT IT NEVER WORKED (COULD NOT SET IT). ON FRIDAY 8 JUNE, WHILE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IN BUFFALO, MN, SYMPTOMS OCCURRED AGAIN. I DON'T KNOW IF MY DAUGHTER TRIED TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL THIS TIME. SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR THE 8 MILES TO HOME AND PARK IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. SEVERAL HOURS LATER, WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, WHILE IN PARK, THE ENGINE RPMS WAS 3500. TAPPED GAS PEDAL A COUPLE TIMES AND ENGINE STAYED REVVED. THEN TURNED OFF CAR AND STARTED IT AND ENGINE RPM WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I DROVE ABOUT 10 MILES, INCLUDING TRYING TO USE CRUISE CONTROL, WITHOUT INCIDENT, THOUGH THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL NEVER WORKED (WOULD NOT SET). ON WEDNESDAY 10 JULY, IN ALBERTVILLE, MINNESOTA, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE NOTICED THAT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR STOPPED AT 2 DIFFERENT STOP LIGHTS. THEN ABOUT A HALF MILE FROM THE SECOND STOP LIGHT, WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP HER CAR FOR A 3RD STOP LIGHT AND HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH A RED LIGHT, THIS TIME WITH SEVERAL PASSENGERS. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH ENGINE REVVING AND AFTER TAPPING THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES IT RETURNED BACK TO NORMAL. SHE WAS NOT TRYING TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND HEAR A LOUD EXHAUST AND HEARD IT DRAGGING. LOOKED UNDER CAR AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BROKE OFF AT THE FRONT FLANG BEHIND THE MOUNTING BRACKET.. ORDER A NEW ONE FROM AUTO PARTS WEAR HOUSE .COM FOR $137.78 BETTER WELD THEN ORIGINAL PART. *TR
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR SHE TOLD ME THE ENGINE RACED AND IT WAS ALL SHE COULD DO TO STOP THE CAR. AT FIRST I THOUGHT SHE HAD MAYBE TURNED ON AND SET THE CRUISE CONTROL BY MISTAKE BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET THE SYMPTOMS TO REPEAT. ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE REVVED TO ALMOST 4000 RPMS AND STAYED THERE FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS. HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT WITH NOTHING FOUND WRONG. HAS NOT RECURRED. *TR
VEHICLE ENGINE REVS UP TO OVER 4000 RPM PLUS AT CITY AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH NO WARNING, NO FOOT ON ACCELERATOR, NO USE OF CRUISE CONTROL AND REGARDLESS OF WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE IS IN. IN CITY, SPEEDS RAPIDLY INCREASE FROM 25-50 PLUS WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR AND/OR FROM 50-TO 80 PLUS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO RIDE THE BREAK AND/OR TURN OFF THE VEHILCE. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO IDENTIFY AND FIX THE PROBLEM TWICE WITH NO SUCCESS AND WAITING ON FORD TO IDENTIFY AND FIND A PERMANENT FIX. *JS
HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN FIFTEEN MINUTES- DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN ENGINE STARTED REVVING VERY HIGH. WAS ABLE TO USE BRAKES TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND THEN PRESS HARD ON GAS PEDAL TO STOP THE REVVING. THE CRUISE CONTROL IS INOPERATIVE (TOOK TO SHOP, THEY REPORTED THE CABLE IS UNATTACHED). *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT MY BROTHER WAS ALONE AND DRIVING THE CAR. HE ACCELERATED AFTER STOPPING FOR A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WITHIN ABOUT 50 YARDS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 4000 RPM. HE PULLED OFF TO A TURNING LANE AND HAD TO HOLD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. FINALLY HE PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE ENGINE DID NOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL HE PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE. SINCE THEN THE ACCELERATOR HAS TAKEN CONTROL THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AT ABOUT 40 MPH. MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON 4/18/2012, MILEAGE 36140. WE WERE RIDING HOME FROM CHURCH. MY BROTHER PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO ABOUT 45 MPH FROM A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4000 RPM AGAIN. WE HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND ON 3 TIMES BEFORE IT WAS DRIVABLE. *JS

HELLO MY WIFE'S TAURUS HAS RECENTLY STARTED TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN SHE STARTS IT. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY THIRD OR FOURTH TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. ANOTHER THING WE HAVE NOTICED THAT MAY BE RELATED IS THAT WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING WHILE IN PARK SAY AT A DRIVE THROUGH, WHEN PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE, THERE IS A LAG TIME IN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGING INTO DRIVE THEN WHEN IT DOES ENGAGE IT POPS INTO DRIVE AS IF I WERE TO POP THE CLUTCH AND IT LURCHES FORWARD. *TR

2005 FORD TAURUS - THROTTLE STICKS, VEHICLE WILL SPEED UP WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE GAS. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES, QUITE SCARY REGARDLESS OF LOCATION OR SPEED. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN TOWN AND ON THE INTERSTATE. VEHICLE MUST BE PUT IN NEUTRAL AND THE GAS PEDDLE MUST BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO GET VEHICLE BACK UNDER CONTROL. *TR
STOPPED AT LIGHT, CAR STARTED TO REV RPM'S. COULD NOT HOLD ON BRAKES ENOUGH TO STOP MOVING. WENT THROUGH RED LIGHT AROUND TWO CARS AS SPEED REACHED ABOUT 70MPH. BOTH FEET ON BRAKES, COULD SMELL THEM BURNING, GOT TO SIDE OF ROAD AND SLAMMED INTO PARK AND TURNED CAR OFF. WOW, THE SCARIEST THING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. IF THERE WAS HEAVY TRAFFIC SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, NO DOUBT IN MY MIND .HAPPENED ON THRUWAY TWO WEEKS EARLIER, ONLY LASTED A MINUTE, THOUGHT THE MAT WAS STUCK, IT WAS NOT. CALLED FORD AND THEY COULD NOT HELP AS THERE IS NO RECALL. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER, THEY DISCONNECT CRUSIE CABLE. DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS REALLY THE PROBLEM, JUST GOT IT BACK. I AM VERY FEARFUL TO DRIVE IT, BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL DO IT AGAIN. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE FORD WAKE UP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. I WOULDN'T FEEL RIGHT TRADING IT IN, FOR FEAR OF SOMEONE ELSE GETTING KILLED. *KB
