CONSUMER HAD TROUBLE WITH HEATER CORE. REPLACED HEATER CORE, BUT THAT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *AK
DUE TO THE HEAD GASKET FAILURE, THESE FAILURES OCCURRED. FORD WILL NOT REPLACE OR REIMBURSE FOR THE REPAIRS. I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE SOME ACTION AS I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPAIR SUCH A NEW VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT NECESSITATED A SERIES OF ENGINE REPAIRS. I WOULD LIKE MY SITUATION TO BE INVESTIGATED. OUR ENGINE COULD BLOW UP AT ANY TIME AND IT COULD HAVE OVERHEATED HAD WE NOT GOTTEN IT IN FOR THE WARRANTEED REPAIR ON TIME.

DOOR LIGHT STAYS ON INDICATING THAT A DOOR IS OPEN WHEN ONE ISN'T. SOMETIMES GOES ON AND OFF AND BEEPS. INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON FOR EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. HEARD ON NEWS ABOUT RECALLS AND BUY BACK, CALLED FORD, THEY TELL ME ABOUT 3 OTHER RECALLS ON THE VAN,: HEAD GASKETS, HOOD SEPARATION, FEUL TANK MOUNTING (WHICH WILL ONLY REPLACE OR REPAIR IF THEY FEEL ITS NECESSARY). I LOOKED ON THE NET AND FOUND THAT THERE IS ALSO AN AIRBAG PROBLEM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THESE AND ONLY RECENTLY BECAME AWARE OF THEM. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET A REFUND FOR THE $1800.00 ON THE HEAD GASKET AND RELATED PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD TO GO AND SPEAK TO A MARY FLANAGAN AT THE SANDERS FORD IN JACKSONVILLE, NC WHERE I LIVE AND PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION A OUT ALL THESE RECALLS AND REPAIRS THAT ARE NEEDED AND IF THE BUY OUT PROGRAM APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN AND I AM FEELING VERY UNSATISFIED WITH SAFELY TRANSPORTING THEM IN THIS VEHICLE. *AK

DUE TO A DEFECTIVE MOISTURE PUNGER MODULATOR WIRING HARNESS KIT, THERE IS A MILDEW FUNGUS TYPE THAT GROWS IN THE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR WHICH CAUSES THE DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS TO BREATH DIFIFCULT, AND MAY RESULT IN OCCUPANTS FAINTING OR POSSIBLE DEATH. FOR THE PAST WEEK THE VEHICEL RANDOMLY WOULD HESITATE DURING ACCELLERATION. TODAY THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE. CALLED THE DEALER , THEY SAID 36,000 MILES WAS THE WARRENTY LIMIT. I ASKED IF WINDSTAR'S WERE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THEY CLAIMED NO. CALLED SEVERAL SHOPS AND THEY SAID THEY HAD SEEN MANY FORD WINSTAR TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND THE REPAIR COST COULD BE BETWEEN $700 TO $3000. I CHECKED YOUR SITE AND I SEE HUNDRES OF WINDSATR TRANSMISSION FAILURES. I WANT YOU TO ADD ME TO YOUR LIST AND HELP ME TO GET FORD TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR POOR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING. DRIVING CAR TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN CHECK ENGINE LITE COMES ON. VEHICLE STARTS ROUGH IDLE AND WIFE NOTICES WHITE SMOKE FUMING OUT OF EXHAUST PIPE. KNOWING THAT 95 WINDSTAR 3.8L HAS A REPUTATION FOR BLOWN HEAD GASKETS SUSPECTED THAT WAS WHAT OCCURED. COMPLEATED TURN AND GOT CAR SAFETLY OFF THE ROADWAY, CALLED FOR TOW TO NEAREST FORD DEALER. DIAGNOSIS, BLOWN HEAD GASKET, CAUSING HYDRO-LOCK DURING DIAGNOSTIC TEST . SOLUTION . REPLACE ENGINE WITH LONGBLOCK DUE TO COOLANT DAMAGE TO CRANKSHAFT AND CYLINDERS AND BLOCK. NO WARNING AND THIS CAR HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY MAINTAINED. OIL AND COOLANT WERE CHECKED THE DAY BEFORE AND WERE AT PROPER LEVELS. COOLANT CHANGED 07/99. SOLUTION ENGINE REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. NO PROPERLY MAINTAINED CAR SHOULD HAVE THIS KIND OF FAILURE,ESPECIALLY DURING FIRST 100,000 MILES. AM PURSUING THIS WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HOT-LINE WITH LITTLE SUCESS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

A HUM/WHINE NOISE DETECTED AT LOW SPEEDS. TRANSMISSION SERVICE RESULTED IN DISCOVERING METAL WHEN PAN DROPPED. INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. REBUILT TRANSMISSION INSTALLED AT A COST OF $1,745. NO WARRANTY COVERAGE. *AK

FORD DEALERSHIP MAKING REPAIR COULD NOT OBTAIN THE CAM SHART REPLACEMENT KIT BECAUSE "DEMAND HAD EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS". WE HAD TO BUY A SHORT BLOCK. OTHER PROBLEMS: BRAKES PUMPING - NEED NEW ROTORS SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER GETTING NEW PADS. ANOTHER PROBLEM - INTERIOR LIGHTS THAT WILL NOT GO OFF HAVE REQUIRED REPAIR TWO TIME.

HEAD GASKET FAILURE ON 95' FORD WINDSTAR. I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FROM THOUSANDS OF WINDSTAR OWNERS. HOWEVER, FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL. INSTEAD, AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS BEEN ISSUED. THE VERBAGE STATES 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. IT DOES NOT SAY "AND" OR "WHICHEVER COMES FIRST" IN A RECENT POLL ON AN INTERNET SITE, 67 PERCENT OF ALL GASKET FAILURES ON THE 95' OCCURED BETWEEN 60 AND 70 THOUSAND MILES.MY VEHICLE HADHEAD GASKET FAILURE, FOLLOWED BY AN OVERHEATING PROBLEM, HAPPENED WHILE MY WIFE WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH OUR TWO SMALL CHILDREN. THEY WERE STRANDED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES UNDER TERRIBLE WEATHER CONDITIONS. FORD REFUSES TO PAY FOR REPAIRS, AS HAS BEEN THE PROBLEM WITH THOUSANDS OF OWNERS. FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM IN THEIR ISSUED WARRANTY LETTER (98MO1). I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MAY 98' AND NEVER RECIEVED NOTICE OF THE LETTER, ALTHOUGH THE "EXTENDED WARRANTY" IS TRANSFERABLE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 42,000 MILES AND STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SYMPTOMS OF GASKET FAILURE AT 52,000 MILES. I HAVE SPENT CONSIDERABLE TIME AND MONEY ON DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, INCLUDING TWO THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENTS, WATER PUMP, ETC., TO NO AVAIL. HAD I BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE GASKET PROBLEM BY FORD, I WOULD HAVE SAVED SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS AND WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE $1,200 I WILL NOW NEED TO HAVE THE FAULTY ORIGINAL GASKETS REPLACED. HELP!
FORD CONTACTED ME CONCERNING THEIR ADDITIONAL WARRANTY COVERAGE SERVICE PROGRAM NUMBER 00M09 HOWEVER IT SEEMS I AM NOT ELIGIBLE SINCE THEIR WARRANTY COVERAGE IS ONLY FOR 7 YEARS OR 100000 MILES FOR THIS TYPE OF FAILTURE. IN THE PAST FOUR MONTHS, THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE FOLLOWING REPAIRS: 6/17/99: COOLANT LEAK, RESULTING IN REPLACING HEAD GASKET AND WATER PUMP, REAR WHEEL BRAKES SEIZED, SCHEDULED TUNE-UP.TOTAL COST $1688.21. COST OF TUNE-UP WAS $272.92. 7/22/99: REMOVE ENGINE AND INSTALL RE-MANUFACTURED ENGINE. TOTAL COST $4,087.88. 8/23/99: OIL LEAK. MAIN ENGINE SEAL LEAKING: TOTAL COST: NO CHARGE. PRIOR TO THIS WE HAVE HAD A TEMPERATURE GAUGE MALFUNCTION, NEW STARTER MOTOR, ABS BRAKE MALFUNCTION, SLIDING DOOR RECALL AND REAR COURTESY LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. NOW THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISION HAS FAILED.

PHIL LONG DEALERSHIP REPORT VAN WAS READY FOR ME TO CONTINUE MY VACATION. I PICKED UP VAN FROM PHIL LONG FORD DEALERSHIP AND DROVE 230 MILES. ENGINE DIED AT 230 MILES DUE TO ANTI-FREEZE GETTING INTO ENGINE WHEN HEAD GASKET BLEW AND CAUSED THE CRANK BEARINGS TO FAIL. JUST PAID $3,500 FOR ENGINE TO BE REBUILT. HELP!!! OCT 99 HEAD GASKETS FAILED / MAR 00 TRANSMISSION FAILED BOTH REPLACED BY DEALER BOTH ARE SAFETY ISSUES AND HAVE TO BE CORRECTED BY FORD. DO WE NEED A MAJOR INJURY BEFORE SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING ABOUT EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THIS VAN. *AK

DEALER SAID THAT VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS. STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL AND VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE WHEN STOPPING, THEN SHUT OFF. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL FAILED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *AK
HEAD GASKETS FAILED ALLOWING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO INTERNAL ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ENGINE BURNED INTERNALLY AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. TOTAL COST 3990.00. FORD HAS NOT HELPED STATING THAT WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT GASKETS WERE DEFECTIVE.
NOTICED STRONG GAS ODOR AFTER FILL-UP. DEALER MAINTENANCE CONFIRMED GAS TANK HAD A CRACK ON TOP OF THE TANK AND FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD HAS RECALLED THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. THIS CAR IS OPERATED REGULARLY ONLY IN VIRGINIA AND THEREFORE THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO ALL STATES. REFERNCE FORD RECALL 99R33. HAVE CONTACTED FORD, AND THEY SAY WE CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS RECALL.
DRIVING AT AVERAGE HIGHWAY SPEED. SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITH EXCESSIVE ENGINE VIBRATION. ENGINE BEGAN OVERHEATING WITH EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF WHITE SMOKE FROM EXHAUST SYSTEM. *AK
SYMPTOMS OF THE HEAD GASKET FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE BECAME MANIFEST ON 10/2/99. HOWEVER, IN RETROSPECT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER LURKING SYMPTOMS SINCE ABOUT 40K MILES THAT DID NOT CAUSE ME TO SUSPECT THE HEAD GASKET. THIS MEANS THAT I MAY HAVE SERIOUSLY JEOPARDIZED THE SAFETY OF THE MANY WHO HAVE TRAVELED IN THIS VAN AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHILE THIS GASKET WAS WAITING TO FAIL. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS IS SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES THAT THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED. *AK
THE BLOWN HEAD GASKET IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE 3.8L ENGINE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IF YOU NEED NUMBERS, THEY ARE OUT THERE.
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REBUILT. AT 80,000 MILES. I DO NOT TOW WITH THE VEHICLE NOR DID I ABUSE IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE CARS HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED.
WILL IT TAKE A FATALITY BEFORE FORD IS MADE TO RECALL THIS TRANSMISSION? YOU SAY YOU DO NOT NEED A SPECIFIC NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS TO FORCE A MANUFACTER RECALL . WHY ISNT SOMETHING BEING DONE? CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS AT FORD DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND, I WAS TOLD BY A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP NAMED NICK THAT "FORD MUST HAVE ITS OWN REASONS WHY THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THE TRANSMISSION" WELL OF COURSE MONEY!! I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS IN MY VAN. IT DECIDES TO NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE AND WILL SLIP OUT OF GEAR. I HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER TRANSMISSION INSTALLED AT AROUND 2GRAND. WHY HAS NOTHING BEEN DONE? THIS IS A REOCCURING PROBLEM! WHEN SOMEONE IS KILLED IT WILL BE TO LATE!! PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM. I WEAR MY SEATBELT, I DONT DRINK AND DRIVE BUT IM IN DANGER EVERYTIME I DRIVE THIS VAN. I JUST PRAY I DONT KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. THE AMOUNT OF THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD IS STAGGERING. REPLACED HEAD GASKETS DUE TO FAILURE AT 68350 MILES. DROVE ADDITIONAL 500 MILES AND ROD BEARING FAILURE DUE TO ANTIFREEZE LEAK FROM BLOWN HEAD GASKETS. REPLACED ENGINE WITH A FORD REMANUFACTURED ENGINE. WITH TOTAL PARTS COST AROUND $2000.
AUTOMOBILE IS IN THE FIRST PHASE OF THE HEAD GASKET GOING OUT. IT IS LOSING COOLANT AT A RAPID PACE, AND AFTER A 2 HOUR TRIP ENGINE HEATED TO A HIGH TEMPERATURE.ALSO, MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF CONSISTENT DEFECT, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED ANY RECALLS. *AK
PURCHASED VEHICLE WITH 35,000 PRIOR MILES, A FORD LEASE VEHICLE . THE VEHICLE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS. FORD MECHANICS WARNED US THAT VEHICLE HAD BEEN WRECKED AFTER WE PURCHASED IT. SALESMAN TOLD US LESS THAN $500.00 WHEN WE INQUIRED. A TITLE SEARCH BY US REVEALED $5,000.00 DAMAGE DONE WHILE UNDER CONTRACT AS A FORD LEASE VEHICLE. THIS DAMAGE WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO WAS WHEN WE PURCHASED FOR $16,500.00 WE ARE STILL EXPERIENCING MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THEY WERE VERY RUDE AND REFUSED TO HELP, STATING THAT VEHICLE IS 3,000 MILES PAST EXTENDED WARRANTY. *AK
