JUDGING FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WITH REGARD TO EARLY WINDSTAR TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON THE NET, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHA HAS HAD SOME DIFFICULTY WITH THIS MODEL...
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR OR ACCELERATE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
WHEN TRAVELING 20 MPH A ROD BLOW A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE CUTTING OFF. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
HEAD GASKET FAILED PRIOR TO RECALL. ALSO, WATER PUMP AND ENGINE PISTON ROD BEARINGS #2,5 AND 6 REPLACED.
RECALL WORK PERFORMED ON VEHICLE ENGINE, HOWEVER ENGINE FAILED AFTER WORK.
HAD THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. HAD THE ROTORS TURNED AT LEAST 2 DIFFERENT TIMES. WARNING SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT LEAST TWICE. NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND. BRAKES FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE. *AK
COOLING SYSTEM AND HEAD GASKET RELATED FAILURES IN 1995 FORD WINDSTARS ARE COMMON FROM 35 TO 70K AND RESULT IN MAJOR REPAIR EXPENSES. *AK
THE FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON IS CRACKED BECAUSE ITS MADE OF ALUMINUM, FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE WINDSTAR FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS COMPLETELY DOWNSHIFTING. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE AT A HIGH SPEED. ONCE THE VAN WAS TURNED OFF IT WOULD NOT MOVE. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PLANETARY ASSEMBLY IN THE TRANSMISSION EXPLODED. THE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. *AK
VAN DOES NOT ACCELERATE OR TAKE OFF AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. DEALER DIAGNOSED A DEFECTIVE FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON AS CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE BEING REPAIRED BY DEALERSHIP. *AK
IE98080, THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE HEAD GASKETS ARE CAUSING THE COOLANT TO LEAK WHICH MAY CAUSE A FIRE. DEALER REPLACED HEAD GASKETS 2 TIMES. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED FOR NO REASON WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE BACK REAR WINDOW SHATTERED IN A SIMILAR FASHION APPROX A YEAR AGO.
THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT TO HIGHER GEAR CAUSING ENGINE TO REV HIGHLY, AS DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC.

VEHICLE WHEN MOVED TO REVERSE DOES NOT GO BACKWARD. WHEN STOPPED, IT WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. *AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. WHITE SMOKE CAME FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE. WHEN DRIVING, VEHICLE STOPPED. WHEN TURNING THE KEY ON, A CLUNKING NOISE WAS HEARD. DEALER CONTACTED AND INVESTIGATING PROBLEM FOR REPAIR. *AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING VEHICLE, WITHOUT WARNING, TRANSMISSION FAILED TO OPERATE. DEALER/MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED AND INFORMED CONSUMER RECORD WOULD BE KEPT, BUT NOTHING WOULD BE DONE FOR REPAIRS UNLESS COST GOES TO CONSUMER. *AK
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE SINCE WE BOUGHT IT NEW FOR ENGINE CHECK LIGHTS AND POOR RUNABILITY. COMPRESSION TESTS RAN IN NOVEMBER BECAUSE ENGINE RAN POORLY. DEALER REPLACED OXYGEN SENSORS ,AND THEN A MONTH AND A HALF LATER, THE HEAD GASKET FAILED. FORD WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL SINCE IT EXPIRED ON DEC. 31,1999. I THINK THE DEALER MISSED THE DIAGNOSIS ALL ALONG, THE GASKET WAS FAILING. THE FAILURES OF THE GASKET AND TRANSMISSION ALONG WITH THE NUMEROUS SENSOR REPLACEMENTS HAS COST ME ABOUT $5800. THESE PROBLEMS ARE TOO NUMEROUS IN NUMBERS, MANY 95 FORD WINDSTAR OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME OR WORST PROBLEMS. THESE PROBLEMS ARE WELL KNOWN TO FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. YOU MUST MAKE THESE RECALL ISSUES TO FORCE THEM TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY. *AK
HEADGASKET, WHILE ON TRAVEL, FAILED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF RECEIVING A SERVICE ADVISORY REGARDING THE PROBLEM. HEADGASKET WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT NO COST. CONCERNED ABOUT READING LARGE NUMBERS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH SAME ENGINE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. HEADGASKET FAILURE IS EXTREMELY PREMATURE COMPARED TO OTHER FORD AND OTHER ENGINES. *AK
THE VEHICLE HAS HAS THE ENGINE REBUILT ONE TIME AND REPLACED TWO MORE TIMES. IT IS CURRENTLY AT SPRINGFIELD FORD FOR THE THIRD NEW ENGINE - 5TH ENGINE TOTAL. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WE WANT FORD TO KEEP IT AND GIVE US THE $6625 TRADE-IN VALUE. THANK YOU. *AK
HAVE HAD TO REPLACE SPEEDOMETER TWICE AND STARTER TWICE WITHIN FIRST 58000 MILES. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE, CAUSING SUDDEN LURCHING AND UNPREDICTIBLE AN DRIVETRAIN.
THIS TRANSMISSION HAS GRADUALLY FAILED TO MOVE FROM A STANDSTILL INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE...NOW IT LUNGES INTO GEAR AFTER AN INDEFINITE LENGTH OF TIME. TONIGHT (ON OUR WAY TO THE DEALER) THE CAR WOULD N OT GO INTO REVERSE..AND WHEN I WALKED BACK TO HELP MY WIFE WITH IT, IT LUNGED INTO GEAR ALMOST STRIKING ME. MY WIFE IS TERRIFIED OF THIS CAR...IT'S LEFT HER I N A VULNERABLE POSITION IN TRAFFIC AND ON HILLS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT AND SHOULD BE THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL.
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING THE GEAR WILL NOT ENGAGE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HESITATE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
FRONT BUMPER STRUCK BY A TIRE THAT BLEW OUT ON ANOTHER VEHICLE, UPON HITTING BUMPER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, BLOCKED DRIVERS VISION, CAUSING ACCIDENT, ALSO BOTH AIRBAGS MELTED, BURNING DRIVER'S FINGERS/ARMS. (QCAW)
TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO HESITATE SEVERAL FOR SECONDS.
HEAD GASKETS FAILED AT 52,000 AND AT 103,000 MILES. WOULD LIKE TO RECIEVE COMPENSATION FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR THIS OBVIOUS DEFECTED PRODUCT. *AK
AFTER COMING TO A STOP, TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. VEHICLE EVENTUALLY GOES INTO GEAR WHICH CAUSES A SUDDEN JERK.
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES. DEALER HAS INSPECTED AND REPAIRED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *AK
TRANSMISSION MAKES A TERRIBLE SOUND WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER STATES TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE, VEHICLE IS REPAIRED AFTER TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT, RESULTING IN A $2100.00 REPAIR BILL. *AK
TIMING COVER GASKET FAILED. YH
PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE HEAD GASKET (RECALL COMPONENT) RESULTING IN EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO ENGINE COMPONENTS.
TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT.
WHILE BRAKING AT A STOP LIGHT AND THEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE WANTED TO GO FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, AND THE GEARS ARE HARD TO SHIFT WHEN DRIVING, AND THE GEAR WOULD GO INTO NEUTRAL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS, AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM. *AK
AN OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTER WAS ISSUED. THE PROBLEM WAS MISDIAGNOSED ON 3 OCCASIONS. NOW THE 60,000 MILE LIMIT HAS BEEN EXCEEDED AND FORD WILL NOT EVEN DISCUSS REPLACING THE GASKET FOR ME EVEN THOUGH TWO LOCAL DEALDERSHIPS HAVE AGREED THAT FORD IS RESPONSIBLE. *AK

TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHIN 67000 MILE OF WEAR. BELIEVES THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED NORMAL. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
WE ARE AWARE OF OTHER 1995 WINDSTARS HAVING TRANSMISSION TROUBLES AND WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT THE STATUS OF FOR'S S
NO SUMMARY MENTIONE DFOR THIS VEHICLE. *AK
CURRENTLY OUR VEHICLE IS AWAITING A NEW ENGINE AFTER HAVING THE HEAD GASKET REPLACED ON A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD LAST OCTOBER. WHILE WE HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE, WE FEEL IT IS NOT FAIR THEY SHOULD HAVE TO PROVIDE REPLACEMENT IN LIGHT OF OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER FORD WINDSTARS. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 34,489 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION CONCERNS ABOUT THIS VAN AS WELL, HOWEVER THE DEALER HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS VAN IS INFACT A LEMON, AND WE HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE, WHICH ADVISED US THAT NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY BY TIME, NOT BY MILES. *AK

TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TO NEUTRAL WHEN VEHICLE ATTEMPTS TO STOP. ENGINE MUST BE HIGHLY IDLED FOR TRANSMISSION TO RETURN TO FIRST GEAR.
CONTACT ASSEMBLY FOR AIR BAG FAILED CAUSING LIGHT TO STAY ON.
PULLING INTO PARKING LOT BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON UNEXPECTEDLY WITHOUT WARNING, MOISTURE IS RUSTING BRAKE LINE DUE TO LOCATION, RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKES AND CONTROL. *AK *SLC
VEHICLE WAS LOSING COOLANT, AND THERE WAS ALSO A FUNNY SMELL. HOWEVER, COOLIANT WAS NOT NOTICEABLY LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AT TIMES, WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR, SEVERAL CLOSE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. (QCAW)
