WHEEL RIM IS CAUSING A LEAKAGE IN TIRE DEALER IS AWARE AND WAITING ON PARTS. *AK LEFT FRONT TIRE EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AND WAS REPLACED WITH NEW TIRE. THAT NEW TIRE BECAME FLAT. A BAD WHEEL RIM WAS DETERMINED AS THE CAUSE. *YH
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS BRAKING PROBLEMS/AXLES/SWAY BARS/CALIPERS/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS
FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE, JANUARY 2002, BRAKES AND ABS SYSTEM HAS FAILED ,PEYTON-CRAMER FORD HAS CHARGED US TO REPLACE AN ABS RING, 2 SENSORS AND A TIRE. AFTER ALL OF THESE REPAIRS PEYTON-CRAMER FORD HAS FAILED TO CORRECT THE BRAKING PROBLEM AND NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE $1,300 FOR A NEW ABS SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 40K MILES. THE TRANSMISSION HAS CURRENTLY GONE OUT AS WELL WITHIN THE PAST WEEK. I FEEL THAT THIS MATTER SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BECAUSE I FEEL THAT THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE AND BECAUSE OF THE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. PEYTON CRAMER FORD IS UNWILLING TO ASSIST WITH THE CURRENT ABS PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE COVERED BECAUSE I CURRENTLY HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE ABS IS NOT COVERED BY MY CURRENT EXTENDED WARRANTY AND FORD MOTOR IS UNWILLING TO OFFER ANY GOODWILL ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT ANY SPEED THE ENGINE WILL STALL WITHOUT A PRIOR WARNING. OTHER VEHICLES WILL TRY TO AVOID CRASHING INTO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. *AK
AFTER STARTING VEHICLE CONSUMER HEARD GRINDING SOUND, FRONT COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN. *AK
TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK
CONTACTED BILL FORD, CHAIRMAN, FMC, IN WRITTING, 2X,, NO WRITTEN RESPONSE.NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED. *AK
I HAD BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND WAS PROCEEDING FORWARD WHEN THE FRONT OF CAR, LEFT SIDE, DROPPED DOWN ABUPTLY. VAN GROUND TO A STOP AND I HOPPED OUT TO INVESTIGATE. THE LEFT FRONT FENDER WAS MUCH LOWER THAN THE RIGHT, BUT IT WAS DARK SO I COULDN'T SEE MUCH ELSE. WANTING TO GET THE VAN BACK TO MY HOME, I TRIED TO DRIVE IT FARTHER, BUT IT MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THAT SOUNDED SIMILAR TO A TRAIN ON A TRACK, AND BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE BURNT RUBBER. AT THIS POINT I DECIDED IT BEST TO STOP AND HAD THE VAN TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE COIL SPRING WAS BROKE AND ON HIS ADVISE I HAD BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE STRUTS. HE SAID I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE MOVING AT SUCH A SLOW SPEED BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL DUE TO THE SPRING RUBBING AGAINST THE TIRE AND RIM. WE ALSO REPLACED THE TIRE. WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND SHOWED THE SERVICE MANAGER THE BROKEN COIL SPRING AND WROTE A REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE. THE AREA INSPECTOR, WHO NEVER SAW THE PART, TURNED DOWN THE REQUEST BECAUSE I DIDN'T TAKE THE VAN TO THE FORD DEALER. THE VEHICLE WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY AND I NEEDED IT FIX RIGHT AWAY, PLUS THE DEALER WAS 20 MILES AWAY, SO I MADE A QUICK DECISION TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO WAS CLOSE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG, I'M NOT A MECHANIC! AFTER ALOT OF RUN-AROUND, THE DEALERSHIP HAS OFFERED TO COVER HALF THE REPAIR BILL AND I THINK THAT IS AS GOOD AS IT WILL GET. I'M STILL CONCERNED THAT OTHERS MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY AS I WAS TO BE IN A PARKNIG LOT AND MOVING SO SLOW. I SAW THE USA TODAY PRESS RELEASE AND KNEW THIS HAD TO BE REPORTED. THANK-YOU!!! *AK
WHILE TRAVELING 30 TO 40 MPH TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM UNDERNEATH HOOD OF VEHICLE. CONSUMER PULLED OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF. CONSUMER EXAMINED VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS FLUID LEAKING FROM ENGINE , POOL OF FLUID WAS APPROXIMATELY 2 FEET IN DIAMETER ON THE GROUND. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE AND COULD NOT DETERMINE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE. INFORMED CONSUMER THAT NO FLUIDS LEAKED FROM VEHICLE. ALSO, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY ANY RECALLS. *AK DEALER FINALLY REPLACED TRANSMISSION WITH A REFURBISHED ONE AFTER A FIELD ENGINEER STATING IT WAS FAULTY. *SLC
VEHICLE ONE WAS DRIVING AND STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING LIKE PLASTIC. INSURED PULLED INTO SEVICE STATION, LIFTED THE HOOD AND FOUND A FIRE BURNING INSIDE THE COMPARTMENT, CLAIM 36-A159-793. *JG
LEFT FRONT OF VEHICLE DROPPED TO GROUND. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. *AK COIL SPRING SLICED TIRE WHEN IT CAME DOWN, DEALER WOULD NOT PAY FOR TIRE, ALIGNMENT, OR ALL OF TOWING. *SLC
WHILE IN MOTION INSURED SMELLED GAS AND PULLED OVER. LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, HE SAW FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE ENGINE, CLAIM 42-1328-321. *JG
ALL FOUR OF WHEEL RIMS ARE CRACKED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
THE DOOR LOCKS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE OPERATED BY SWTICHES ON THE FRONT DOORS AND AT THE REAR STORAGE AREA. THESE SWITCHES WILL NO LONGER ACTIVATE THE LOCKS ON THE TWO FRONT DOORS. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE PROBLEM AND ADVISED THAT THE DOORS NEED NEW "ACTUATORS" AT A COST OF $70 PER DEVICE, PLUS CLOSE TO $200 TO INSTALL THEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT THESE LOCKS SHOULD FAIL AT THIS POINT IN THE LIFE OF THE CAR. I HAVE HAD SIMILAR LOCKS ON SEVERAL CARS AND NEVER HAD THEM FAIL, MUCH LESS AT SUCH AN EARLY DATE. PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE OWNED THE CAR LESS THAN THE 36 MONTHS NORMALLY COVERED BY WARRANTY, THOUGH THE 36,000 MILE THRESHOLD HAS LONG SINCE PASSED. I ARGUED WITH THE DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER, THAT THE DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT ELEMENTS OF THE CAR SO AFFECTED BY MILEAGE, BUT MORE LIKELY BY USAGE OVER TIME. THEY WOULDN'T BUDGE ON FIXING THEM. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT BECAUSE THE FRONT LOCKS CANNOT BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED FROM THE INTERIOR. IN AN ACCIDENT, THIS COULD PROVE FATAL.*AK
WHEN MAKING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT HAND TURNS THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND FROM STEERING. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, WHO INSISTED IT WAS A ROCK IN STEERING COLUMN. DID NOT REMEDY PROBLEM. *AK *JB
SPEEDOMETER JUMPS AROUND; CONSUMER CANNOT HAVE ACCURATE SPEED BECAUSE SPEEDMETER JUMPS AROUND AND AROUND. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AND HEARD POPPING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. HE PULLED OVER TO SHOULDER OF ROAD, AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH OF VEHICLE, AND NOTICED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
RIMS WILL DEVELOP CRACKS. CONSUMER HAD TO ALREADY REPLACE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND CURRENTLY HAS TO REPLACE LEFT FRONT WHEEL.*AK
ABS BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON FOR A YEAR. DEALER COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM. IN DECEMBER, WHILE BRAK PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AT 15 MPH, DEALER REPLACED HYDRAULIC UNIT. 4 DAYS LATER, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AGAIN.ALSO, DEALER REPLACED FRONT CALIPER. *AK
CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, DEALER HAS REPLACED IT ONCE, HOWEVER PROBLEMS CONTINUE, CONSUMER HAS FILED FOR A REQUEST FOR ARBITRATION, VEHICLE BUCKS, JERKS, AND JUMPS INTO GEAR BEFORE TAKING OFF. VEHICLE SHIMMIES FROM ONE SIDE TO ANOTHER UPON ACCELERATION, THERE IS A THUMPING SOUND HEARD ALSO AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT PROBLEM. SPEEDOMETER JUMPS. PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING, DEALER ADJUSTED RACK AND PINION AND MADE OTHER REPAIRS TO STEERING MECHANISM. RIGHT SIDE BRAKE LIGHT BULB FAILED. BATTERY FAILED. CONSUMER STATED IT FELT AS IF VEHICLE WAS GOING TO STALL SOMETIMES, ENGINE HAS NO POWER AT ACCELERATION, ENGINE BELT WAS NOISY AND WAS REPLACED. TIRE HAD A SLOW LEAK DUE TO LOOSE TIRE VALVE. *SLC
THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. NLM
BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE. THE FIRST ONE BROKE AT 60,000 MILES AND CUT THE SIDE WALL OUT OF THE TIRE. THE SECOND ONE BROKE AT 63,000 MILES AND CUT THE SIDE WALL OUT OF THE TIRE INSTANTLY. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED AT SLOW SPEEDS. IF IT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, A ROLL OVER MAY HAVE TAKEN PLACE.
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING TEN MPH AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON DASHBOARD. ABS BRAKING SYSTEM CAME ON. SHE TURNED VEHICLE OFF TO SEE IF LIGHT WOULD COME OFF. *AK
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE HAS FALLEN OFF THREE TIMES WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. BOLTS THAT HOLD TIRE IN PLACE KEPT BREAKING OFF THE LUGS: NUTS. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. *AK
AFTER PARKING VEHICLE DRIVER NOTICED THAT VEHICLE LOOKED LIKE IT HAD A FLAT TIRE. TOOK TO DEALER, AND NOTIFIED OWNER THAT COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN ON FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BOTH WERE REPLACED. *AK THE VEHICLE ALSO NEEDED STRUTS AND TIE ROD ENDS TO BE REPLACED. *YH

POWER STEERING LINE MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING, RENDERING VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER, DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE.*AK CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT COOLING, THERE WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION AT COMPRESSOR, THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK, THE POWER DOOR ACTUATOR WAS THE CAUSE OF THE DOORS NOT WORKING, WINDOWS WOULD NOT GO DOWN BECAUSE OF A BAD WINDOW MOTOR.*JB
RACK AND PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN TURNING TO LEFT OR RIGHT THERE WAS LOUD GRINDING NOISE. CONTACTED GARAGE, AND GARAGE ORDERED A NEW PART, PROBLEM WAS REMEDIED.*AK THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FAILED AFTER TWO YEARS AND POOR DESIGN IS THE CAUSE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES BECAUSE OF NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THIS EQUIPMENT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *YH
THE INTERIOR COURTESY LAMPS DO NOT GO OUT WHEN DOORS ARE CLOSED. DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON. FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ITS A SAFETY ISSUE AS DRIVER CANNOT SEE DURING NIGHT DRIVING UNLESS FUSE IS PULLED. INTERIOR LIGHTS CANNOT BE SHUT OFF WITH THE DIMMER SWITCH!!.. DEALERS PLAY DUMB WHEN YOU DISCUSS THIS ISSUE. THREE NEIGHBORS HAVE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!!*AK

FIRST INCIDENT 11-13-00. ENGINE STALLED MAKING LEFT TURN AGAINST ONCOMING TRAFFIC. VAN SERVICED AT FORD COUNTRY, HENDERSON, NV AND ALTERNATOR CHANGED. FOUR MORE OF SAME TYPE INCIDENTS IN FEBRUARY. CAR RETURNED TO FORD COUNTRY IN HENDERSON FOR THIS COMPLAINT. MILEAGE 35024. THEY PERFORMED TSB 982506. SENT LETTER AND CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. ANDREA INSISTED THAT THE CAR BE LOOKED AT ONCE MORE AT COLORADO RIVER FORD IN KINGMAN, AZ. SHE SAID SHE MADE APPOINTMENT AND ARRANGED FOR A LOANER VAN OR LARGE CAR. CONTACT WAS STEVE. WE DROVE 40 MILES FOR THE APPOINTMENT.. ON THE WAY WE HAD ANOTHER STALLING INCIDENT. WE ARRIVED FOR THE APPOINTMENT, STEVE DID NOT HAVE A LOANER CAR. WE HAD TO LEAVE AND WHEN AT HOME CALLED FORD AGAIN. WE WERE PROMISED A CALL BACK FROM ANDREA WITHIN 1/2 HOUR. IT IS NOW MORE THAN 24 HOURS AND WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE CALL BACK. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE WERE TOLD BY TWO PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP IN HENDERSON THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. STALLING COULD CAUSE A CRASH SITUATION WITH BOTH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND TRAFFIC BEHIND US. DOES THE BODY COUNT HAVE TO RISE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT? VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING A STALLING PROBLEM, DEALER HAS REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND PERFORMED TSB 982506, HOWEVER PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING, A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP FROM FORD WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL CONSUMER BACK REGARDING PROBLEM AND HAS NOT. *SLC CONSUMER STATES HE HAS SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT IN THE FUEL INJECTOR CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNING.*JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH CAR SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT REINGAGE BEYOND 1ST. LIMPED HOME ON HIGHWAY WITH FLASHERS. DEALER DECLARED 'INTERNAL PROBLEM' AND $2,400 TRANSMISSION REPLACED W/O ANY FACTORY REIMBURSEMENT. CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. AT FORD CONTACTED AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM WITH WINDSTAR TRANSMISSIONS (OTHER THAN COLLECT MY MONEY) AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR TSBS ON THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LOOKED OK SO THIS WAS NOT TRACED TO THE FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS RETURNED FOR 'CORE' CREDIT INTACT: NO REASON FOR THE FAILURE WAS DETERMINED.*AK
INSURED WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHEEL FLEW OFF THE VEHICLE, CLAIM 13-7144-933. *JG
LEFT FRONT WHEEL LUG BOLTS SHEARED OFF CAUSING THE TIRE AND WHEEL TO COME OFF AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT. *SLC
WHILE TRAVELING AT 25 MPH CONTROL ARM BROKE. IF GOING ANY FASTER VEHICLE WOULD HAVE ROLLED OVER AND CRASHED. *AK
ABS FAILED COMPLETLY ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. SERVICE DEALER SAYS A GEARED RING THAT REFLECTS TO A SENSOR CRACKED. THIS LOOSENED THE RING ALONG THE AXEL SHAFT SO THAT IT WAS NO LONGER LOCATED CORRECTLY. THE FAILURE WAS COMPLETE, AND WITH NO WARNING LEFT ME WITHOUT BRAKING ABILITY ON A SMALL HILL TERMINATING ONTO A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY WITH MY 9 YR OLD DAUGHTER WITH ME. IT WAS ONLY GREAT LUCK THAT NO TRUCK, BUS, OR CAR WAS COMING WHEN I ROLLED RIGHT INTO THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF STOPPING. NO ACCIDENT RESULTED, JUST A VERY CLOSE CALL. THE SERVICE DEALER REPORTED THAT I WAS THE SECOND WINDSTAR IN THE DAY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SMALL TOWN TO HAVE TWO (RARE EVENTS)! HE ALSO INFERRED THAT IT WAS RARE AND THOUGHT THERE WAS NO REASON TO CALL FORD. HOW MANY OTHER DEALER ARE NOT REPORTING THIS FAILURE?
7- YEAR OLD CHILD WAS SITTING ON PASSENGER'S SIDE BACKROW AND ENDED UP GETTING TANGLED UP WITH SHOUDLER BELT. WHEN SHE COULDN'T BREATHE, SHE ASKED FOR HELP. ANOTHER PASSENGER UNBUCKLED SEATBELT, BUT SEATBELT WAS IN RETRACTING MODE, SO IT CONTINUED TO STRANGLE 7-YEAR OLD CHILD. SEATBELT HAD TO BE CUT OFF IN ORDER TO ALLOW CHILD TO BREATHE. CONSUMER FELT THERE SHOULD BE RELEASE BUTTON TO DEACTIVATE RETRACTING MODE.*AK
DEALER HAD TO REPLACE BOTH OUTER TIE RODS AND ADJUST FRONT TOE. STEERING STARTED TO BIND WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, AND VAN STEERING HAD FELT LOOSE UP TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. *AK
FRONT LEFT FIRESTONE TIRE ON FORD, WINDSTAR, 1998 BLEWOUT. *AK FIRESTONE FR680 P205/70R15, DOT# E4027490, CONSUMER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM CLAIMS PRECESSING STATING CONSUMER WOULD RECEIVE A DECISION WITHIN 30 DAYS, HOWEVER HAS HEARD NOTHING, CONSUMER STATES 1 PERSON WAS INJURED. *SLC
