TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SUBFRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND ENTERED INTO TRAFFIC LANE. PRESSED DOWN ON GAS PEDAL BUT ALL THAT HAPPENED WAS ENGINE REVVED UP BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. LUCKILY, THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. A HELPFUL PERSON PUSHED ME TO A SAFE PLACE TO PARK. I STARTED THE CAR AND FOUND THAT ONLY REVERSE WORKED. NO FORWARD MOTION WHEN PUT IN DRIVE, 2 OR 1. I CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS AT PROPER LEVEL HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOUSE. SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH 1999 WINDSTAR'S. CALLED A TRANSMISSION PLACE AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND WAS TOLD I LIKELY HAD SUFFERED A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I'M THE SECOND OWNER AND THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000 MILES ON IT. ALSO, THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED IN OCTOBER 2014. UPDATED 03/28/16.*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. DURING AN OIL CHANGE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V608000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

I WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING LOT AND REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, A LOUD CLANKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE CONTROL ARM HAD SEPARATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS DETACHING FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. TOO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT.I HAD ABOUT THREE RECALL ON MY FORD WINDSTAR AND NOW MY WHOLE VAN SHUT DOWN ON ME.MY COMPUTER I GUESS GOT IT ON AUTO THEFT LOCK AND I CAN'T EVEN TURN OVER NOW.IT'S JUST SITTING IN MY PARKING LOT JUST HELPLESS.I HAVE ANOTHER RECALL BUT I CANT TAKE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I CANT TURN OVER.OH YEA.IT KEPT CUTTING OFF WHILE IM DRIVING,DON'T LET ME STOP AT A LIGHT IT WILL CUT OFF ON ME THERE ALOT.IT DOES THAT ALOT.I BOUGHT IT FROM A CAR LOT BUT HE DOESN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.SO I LOST OUT OF MY MONEY.WHEN I TURN IT ALSO CUT OFF.
ABS LIGHT ON AND SPEEDOMETER FAILURE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AXLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
WHILE NORMAL DRIVING THE REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REAR AXLE THAT THEY MAY BREAK. THE FORD DEALERSHIP INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART USED BRACKETS TO STRENGTHEN THE AXLE. ALL THIS DID WAS DELAY THE INEVITABLE. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT MY LOCAL PEP BOYS WHERE IT WAS TOWED. THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE, BUT WILL REPLACE THE AXLE AT MY GREAT EXPENSE. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY MORE OF THESE DEATH TRAPS ARE OUT THERE, WHERE PEOPLE BELIEVE THEY HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM CORRECTED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 207,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION). HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
THE FACTORY RECALL NOTICE REQUIRED TRAILING AXLE REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS TO BE INSTALLED ON THE REAR AXLE. THEY WERE INSTALLED AT THE DEALERSHIP, ALONG WITH AN UPGRADE TO THE FRONT CONTROL ARM MOUNTS. THE REAR AXLE BROKE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE SPEED I WAS TRAVELLING AT WAS ONLY 45 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE BREAK. AS THE AXLE COLLAPSED, THE REAR TIRES BEGAN RUBBING AGAINST THE WHEEL WELLS. I SLOWED DOWN AND PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY, SEEING SMOKE FROM THE REAR. THE CRACK OCCURED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE AXLE, UNDERNEATH THE REPAIR BRACKET THAT WAS INSTALLED BY FORD. ( OBVIOSLY PLACED OVER THE WEAK/DEFECTIVE AREA.) THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 80,000 MILES ON IT IN MAY OF 2011 WHEN WE OBTAINED IT, THE SAME YEAR THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. IN THE LAST 4 YEARSA I DROVE 175,000 HIGHWAY MILES, HAVE REGULARLY WASHED AND MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE WELL, (INCLUDING UNDERCARRIAGE WASHES IN THE WINTER). I'VE RECENTLY REPLACED THE ENTIRE IGNITION SYSTEM, FRONT SUSPENSION/BRAKE COMPONENTS, AND REAR SHOCKS. IT'S A REAL SHAME THAT THIS VEHICLE IS DISABLED BY A WEAK REAR AXLE WHEN THERE'S PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT IN THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. WITH REGULAR FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES, COOLING AND TRANSMISSION FLUSHES, NEW ALIGNED FRONT STEERING, I EXPECTED TO GET OVER 300,000 MILES OUT OF THIS VAN. NOW I HAVE TO FIND A GOOD USED REAR AXLE, BUT WILL HAVE NO FAITH IN ITS DURABILITY OR SAFETY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARD OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
ABS LIGHT CAME ON CONTINUALLY FOR THE LAST 6000 MILES. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO FORD IN PLAINVILLE, CT AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THE COST WAS TO INCLUDE A NEW COMPUTER FOR AN UNREASONABLE DOLLAR AMOUNT. STILL NOT CORRECTED AND I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. HAVE CHECKED OTHER OWNERS AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO HAVE A CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM THAT IS NOT WORKING. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW HARNESS FOR A COST OF OVER #300. STILL NOT ACTIVATED. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE FRONT END SUPPORT BRACKET DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V030000 (STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,972.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 225,000...UPDATED 05/21/15 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS INCORRECTLY PERFORMED. ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON AND/OF AT WILL, NOT CONSISTANT. FEAR OF ABS NOT FUNCTIONING IN THE EVENT OF ABS BEING NEEDED.
THE REAR AXLE ON MY WINDSTAR VAN BROKE IN HALF. THE RECALL WAS ALREADY DONE PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING IT SO I CAN'T SAY WHEN. FORD IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE VAN WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND SHE ALMOST LOST CONTROL WHEN THE TIRE EXPLODED AFTER THE AXLE SNAPPED. THE BREAK IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ONLINE THIS IS VERY COMMON TO BREAK EVEN AFTER THE RECALL IS DONE. OBVIOUSLY THE REPAIR(IF YOU CAN CALL IT THAT) IS MERELY A BANDAID TO GET THE NHTSA OFF THERE BACK AND NOT TO MAKE THE VEHICLES SAFE. YOU NEED TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE VANS SAFETY, OR LACK OF. THERE ARE MANY OF THESE "TIME BOMBS" STILL ON THE ROAD. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! HOPEFULLY YOU RESPOND QUICKLY, THE VAN IS AT THE DEALER NOW. I WILL BE WELDING THE AXLE SATURDAY TO GET IT HOME TO REPLACE THE AXLE MYSELF. I WILL BE TAKING A LOT OF PICTURES BEFORE I DO. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. REPLACED ALL SPEED SENSORS AND FRONT AXLE TONE RINGS EVEN REBUILD THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. THIS IS COSTING ME ALLOT OF MONEY AND THE ABS LIGHT STILL COME ON EVEN AFTER I HAVE COMPLETED ALL THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE WINDSTARS TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS FOR THESE VEHICLES. *TR
THE BRAKE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. HAD BEEN ON AND OFF DURING THE MORNING. IN TOWN AND STOPPING FOR A REGULAR TRAFFIC LIGHT- DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE STOP THAT WAS ON A WET ROAD - TRAVELING 28 MPH: WINDSTAR VAN LOCKED UP RIGHT REAR TIRE AND VEHICLE DID NOT STOP - TIRE SKIDDED -WHEEL / TIRE WAS LOCKED AND SCREECHING WHILE ALL THE OTHER TIRES WERE TURNING. VAN DID NOT STOP AS EXPECTED AND TOOK ABOUT 125 FEET TO STOP - ALL THE TIME SCREECHING THE 1 RIGHT REAR TIRE. VEHICLE JUST WOULD NOT STOP. I WAS SHOCKED. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN ALL THE YEARS. OWNED FOR ABOUT 14+ YEARS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. PURCHASED FORD WINDSTAR NEW. ABS LIGHT REMAINS ON. IT WAS AS IF I HAD NO BRAKES THEN. WENT OVER RUMBLE STRIP ON ROADWAY AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD TO PUSH. THIS HAPPENED ON MONDAY 9/22/2014 MY MOTHER IN LAW WHO OWNS THE VEHICLE SAID THAT THIS HAD BEEN HAPPENING QUITE FREQUENTLY OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. I PUT MY SCAN TOOL ON THE VEHICLE AND GOT 3 ABS CODES C1235, C1236, AND C1185. THE FIRST TWO CODES PERTAIN TO REAR WHEEL SENSORS AND THE THIRD PERTAINS TO A POWER RELAY FOR THE ABS. WE HAVE FOUND PAPER WORK FOR THREE RECALLS, ONE RELATED TO SUB FRAME CORROSION ONE FOR THE REAR AXLE, AND ONE FOR AN ABS SENSOR WIRE. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING THIS PROBLEM COULD BE RELATED TO THE FIRST ABS PROBLEM WITH THE HARNESS REPLACEMENT. *TR

THE SUB FRAME IS BEING REPLACED BY CAR DOCTOR JR BECAUSE IT WAS ROTTED THRU 2 YEARS AGO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEIR WAS NO ISSUE WITH THE SUBFRAME. AND THEIR WAS NO RECALL
I HAVE 3 PROBLEMS WITH MY 1999 FORD WINDSTAR WHICH CURRENTLY HAS 60,000 MILES. ONE OF THEM IS THE GLASS IN FRONT WHEN I'M DRIVING IN THE RAIN I HAVE TO TURN ON THE WIPERS THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN THE MIDDLE PART OF THE WIPER STAYS WET WHILE THE PASSENGER SIDE CLEANS VERY WELL. THE OTHER PROBLEM I'VE ALWAYS HAD IS THE POWERSTEERING WHEN I'M DRIVING, I'M GOING TO TURN TO THE SIDE AND THE CAR TURNS OFF THE GUIDE GETS HARD AND I CAN'T STRAIGHTEN IT TO TURN IT ON AGAIN. THE LAST PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION, ONE DAY THE FAMILY WENT ALL TOGETHER IN THE CAR AND SHORTLY AFTER WE REALIZED THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING WE PARKED IN THE GRASS WE TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THE PART OF THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE AFTER THE ACCIDENT WE REALIZED THAT THE TRANSMISSION LIQUEFIED OIL. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED AND BEGAN TO GIVE SOME TIRESOME EVERY TIME I CHANGED GEARS. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY PARKED WITH THE DAMAGED TRANSMISSION. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS TRANSMISSION

AFTER A TRIP TO THE LAKE,MY FAMILY AND I WERE HEADED HOME AND APPROACHED A STOP SIGN.(23 MILES FROM HOME.) I MADE A COMPLETE STOP AND PROCEEDED TO APPLY GAS AND THE WINDSTAR WOULD NOT MOVE. WHEN I RELEASE THE BREAKS IT JUST ROLLS BACKWARDS,PRETTY SCARY. HOWEVER AFTER A RESTART IT WOULD MOVE AGAIN BUT ONLY FOR A FEW FEET,THEN IT FALLS OUT OF GEAR AGAIN. TOWED IT HOME,AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WE HAD NO WARNING LIGHTS OR WARNING AT ALL WHATS SO EVER. *TR
ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON AND WILL NOT CLEAR WITH A SCAN TOOL. THERE ARE 11 CODES SHOWING, ALL TO DO WITH ABS/TRACTION CONTROL. NORMAL BRAKING SEEMS FINE, NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH A SKID OR LOSS OF TRACTION IN ICE OR SNOW. I AM TOLD THERE IS A RECALL ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THIS VAN. DO I NEED TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THESE WARNING LIGHTS? *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40 MPH IT FELT LIKE A TIRE BLEW ON THE REAR. WHEN I PULLED OVER AD GOT OUT TO CHECK IT THE TIRES WERE FINE BUT THE REAR WHEELS WERE AT A BAD ANGLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE REAR AXLE BEAM HAS SPLIT RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNDRIVEABLE. I HAVE FOUND THAT FORD HAS RECALLED THIS PART ON MAY WINDSTAR MINIVANS UNDER 10S13. BUT NOT THIS ONE. WIFE HEARD "CRACKING NOISE, EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY MAKING LEFT TURNS & DROVE ABOUT 45 MILES, PARKED AT HOUSE, FRONT SUBFRAME FRACTURE / SEPARATION PASSENGER SIDE, RESULTING IN STEERING RACK TILT UP APPROX. 3/4" ON RIGHT SIDE AND EXTREME TOE OUT ON RIGHT FRONT TIRE (APPROX 20 DEGREES VS. STOPPED AT A LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I WENT TO GO WHEN THE VAN SUDDENLY STOPPED LIKE I HIT A WALL. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO AMERICAN TRANSMISSION ON RT 88 IN LAKEWOOD NJ. THEY DROPPED THE TRANSMISSION AND SAID IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THAT BASICALLY IT HAD MELTED EVERYTHING INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY SAID IT HAPPENS OFTEN WITH THESE VANS....FORD IS LUCKY IT WAS 5AM AND NO ONE WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME THEY WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO ME. *TR

VAN IS JUMPING AT STOP LIGHT WITH BRAKE ON, STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND AROUND 55 (UNKNOWN) POWER WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING ON RIGHT SIDE. ONLY 92000 MILES ON VAN EVERYTHING GOING WRONG AT ONCE. WAS DRIVING AROUND 40 MPH, REALIZED THE VAN HAD A WEIRD ODD STEERING PROBLEM SWERVING TO LEFT AND THEN TO THE RIGHT. I MADE IT HOME THEN LOOKED TOWARDS THE BACK REAR AXLE I SEEN A REAL LARGE CRACK IN THE REAR AXLE. THE VAN BACK SIDE WAS SITTING REALLY LOW LIKE THE AXLE WAS ABOUT TO COMPLETELY CRACK. IM NOT RISKING DRIVING BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. I SEEN THERE WAS A RECALL FOR IT BUT FORD SAYS ITS NOT VALID. I FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE SIMILAR TO MINE. WOULD LIKE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO REPAIR A ISSUE THAT IS FORDS PROBLEM WITH SALT ON ROADS DURING THE WINTER CORRODES THE METAL OF THE REAR AXLE FOR IT TO CRACK WAS THE RECALL I FOUND. *TR
