MY ABS LIGHT HAS STARTED COMING ON FOR THE PAST YEAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. IT CAME ON WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH. NOW IT COMES AND GOES. SOMETIMES WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES AND SOMETIMES WITH THE HOUR OR SO. BREAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY DECREASED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED SHE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND RECEIVED REPAIRS AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. AFTER REPAIRS, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO THE ABS MODULE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HER EXPENSE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE DECISION IF THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED A SECOND TIME WOULD BE AT THE DEALERS DISCLOSURE AND THAT RECALL REPAIRS WERE A ONE TIME REPLACEMENT OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY FAILURES PRIOR TO HAVING REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. DRIVING APPROX. 60 MPH ON FREEWAY. WOBBLING SITUATION WITH BODY OF AUTO (THINKING FLAT TIRE) THEN REAR OF VAN DROPS. LOUD SCRAPING SOUND. ABLE TO PULL OFF ROAD. LOOKED UNDER REAR OF VAN AND NOTICED BROKEN(COMPLETELY) AXLE. *TR
MY BACK AXLE BROKE IN HALF WHILE DRIVING AND LUCKILY WE WERE NOT KILLED OR ON ANY MAJOR HIGHWAY AT A HIGH SPEED. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH FORD WINDSTARS, THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. MOST REPAIR CENTERS SAY THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT AND THIS SHOULD NEVER OCCUR. HOW MANY LIVES NEED TO BE LOST BEFORE FORD RECALLS THESE AXLES? MY NEIGHBOR WHO ALSO HAS A FORD WINDSTAR HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEM 3 MONTHS AGO. *TR
THE SIDE AIR BAG ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR SEL INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. IT DEPLOYED WHILE IDLING AND SITTING STATIONARY. IN THE PROCESS OF THIS DEPLOYING, IT RUINED THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE SEAT AS OF YET. I AM TRYING TO GET FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE. THEY ANALYZED THE SYSTEM BUT FOUND NO REASON FOR THE INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE REAR END VEHICLE COLLAPSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR TIRES WERE POSITIONED INWARDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A BROKEN REAR AXLE FRAME. PHOTOGRAPHS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
OUR FORD WINDSTAR HAD A REAR AXLE FAILURE IN WHICH THE AXLE SPLIT IN HALF CAUSING THE VAN TO LOSE CONTROL. WE REPLACED IT IN 2009. A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN OCT. 2010 SAYING THAT THE PART WAS TO BE REPLACED PROMPTLY. WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE IT REPLACED BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR A PART TO BE MADE. FOR FIVE MONTHS NOW WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PART STILL HAS TO BE MANUFACTURED AND IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL MORE MONTHS TO A YEAR TO GET THE PART. FORD HAD US INSPECT(30 SECOND BEND DOWN NEXT TO THE CAR) THE REPLACED PART(USED FROM A JUNK YARD) TO SEE IF IT IS SAFE AND SAID IT WAS OK. HOWEVER THE PART THAT REPLACED THE ORIGINAL IS VISUALLY IN WORSE CONDITION. AND NOW WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT 'GLUE INJECTION' INTO THE PART WILL FIX THIS FAILURE. THIS IS IN CONTRAST TO WHAT FORD HAS STATED MUST BE DONE(FULL REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR AXLE). IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS, AND WE HAVE STILL NOT HAVE HAD THE PART REPLACED. FORD IMPLIES IN THEIR RECALL LETTER THAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FAILURE IF THIS IS NOT REPLACED IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE LOCAL DEALER ATTEMPTED TO KEEP THE LETTER AFTER HIS 30 SECOND INSPECTION STATING THAT THE PROBLEM IS FIXED AND IT SHOULD BE GOOD. THIS VAN IS UNSAFE AND 30 SECONDS OF VISUAL INSPECTION IS NOT IN MY OPINION A ASSURANCE OF THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH LEAKED BRAKE FLUID INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, CAUSING THE FLUID TO SPILL ONTO THE WIRING. THE DEALER MADE AN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM UNDER NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL); HOWEVER, THE FLUID CONTINUED TO LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. UPDATED 02/23/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED A WIRING JUMPER WAS ADDED TO PREVENT A POSSIBLE FUTURE LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID, SINCE THE PRESSURE SWITCH WAS NOT LEAKING. WITHIN 3,00 MILES, THE PRESSURE SWITCH BEGAN LEAKING BRAKE FLUID INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DIRECTLY ONTO THE TRANSMISSION SPEED CONTROL SENSOR. THE TRANSMISSION SPEED CONTROL SENSOR SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE SPEED CONTROL SENSOR. UPDATED 04/28/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, WHILE REVERSING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR AXLES FRACTURED AND THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE PLACED ON BOTH AXLES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 02/12/16*LJ *CN

I HAD THE LEFT REAR AXLE OF A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR CRACK CLEAN THROUGH WHILE ON THE HWY WITH PEOPLE IN MY VAN. THE VIDEO I HAVE SEEN ARE THE SAME CRACK AS MINE. *TR
REAR AXEL BROKE IN HALF WHILE DRIVING OVER A DRAW BRIDGE ON THE BELT PARKWAY IN BROOKLYN NY. I KEPT CONTROL OF THE VAN EVEN THOUGH THE REAR WHEELS WERE NOT VERTICAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO TRAVEL AT THE SPEED IT WAS MOVING WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED; HE HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW IT DOWN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. ALSO, THE FRONT AND REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE; THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. FURTHERMORE, THE LOCKS ON THE REAR SLIDING DOORS DID NOT FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
I PURCHASED A USED 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX IN SEPTEMBER 2009. FROM THE FIRST DAY, THE ABS LIGHT WAS ON AND WE HAVE HAD CONSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH OUR BRAKE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL. SOMETIMES OUR CRUISE CONTROL WORKS, SOMETIMES NOT. SOMETIMES IT SUDDENLY STOPS WORKING AS WELL. WE NEVER THOUGHT OF IT AS A BIG DEAL AS CRUISE CONTROL ISN'T A NECESSITY. HOWEVER, OUR BRAKE LIGHTS RANDOMLY COME ON WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE PARKED AND NOT RUNNING WITH NO KEY IN IGNITION. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD BECAUSE WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. I ALSO HAVE BEEN NEAR REAR-ENDED BY CARS FOLLOWING FOR LONG DISTANCES. SINCE I AM DRIVING WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS ON, WHEN I ACTUALLY USE THE BRAKES, THE DRIVER BEHIND ME CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE. I HAVE JUST HAD MY SCDS REPLACED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP TODAY. THEY DENIED ANY CONNECTION WITH THE PROBLEMS. MY ABS LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS AS WELL. I AM GOING TO VISIT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND BRING ALL THE RECALL PAPERWORK WITH ME. *TR

I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. ON 10/10/09 AT 74666 MILES I HAD THE DRIVER'S ACTUATOR LOCK ASSEMBLY REPLACED . IT DIDN'T PROPERLY WORK FOR ALMOST A YEAR BUT I COULD GET INTO THE CAR MANUALLY. ON 10/21/09, I HAD THE SLIDING RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR ACTUATOR REPLACED. I HAD TO WAIT TO REPLACE THEM DUE TO FINANCIAL REASONS. ONCE, THE PASSENGER DOOR WENT I KNEW THAT I COULDN'T HOLD OFF ANY LONGER. IN ALL MY DRIVING YEARS, I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE ACTUATORS ON ANY OF MY VEHICLES. *TR

CHECKED FUSE BOX FOUND FUSE BLOWN,REPLACED AND BLEW AGAIN. 3. NOT WORKING CRUISE CONTROL, DEFECTIVE ODOMETER STARTED WHEN I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT ALL THE GAUGES IN MY DASHBOARD (FUELGAUGE,RPM GAUGE,ODOMETER,AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE SWUNG BACK AND FORTH. I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THAT MY BRAKES HAVE BEEN LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. AFTER SENDING IT TO MY MECHANIC, HE FOUND THE LEAK TO BE IN THE SENSOR RIGHT BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER. AFTER SEARCHING FOR THAT PART IN THE AUTOPART STORES AND NOT FINDING IT, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE THIS SIMILAR PROBLEM. THIS IS A FAMILY VAN AND THE SAFETY OF MY WHOLE FAMILY IS AT RISK. *TR

THE RADIO ALSO CAME ON AND BY ITSELF. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED AND THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE TRANSMISSION SHOP TO REPLACE THE GEAR SHIFT BOX AND A SEAL WAS ADDED TO ASSIST WITH THE TRANSMISSION LEAK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140000.
PURCHASED A VEHICLE OFF OF THE WHITE ALLEN LOT WITH ADDITIONAL COVERAGE WITH WYNN'S PLUS EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MAY 31, 2009. IN AUGUST 2009, THE VAN IS VERY LOOSE AND UNSTEADY WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO GRISMER ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2009 TO FIND THAT THE FRONT TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. STILL UNSTEADY ESPECIALLY IN THE REAR. ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2009 THE REAR AXLE BEAM BROKE IN TWO! THE WARRANTY COMPANY WILL NOT COVER, AND I COME TO FIND OUT THROUGH RESEARCHING THAT ACROSS THE U.S. THOUSANDS OF PERSONS HAVE HAD THIS AXLE BREAK ON THEM NEARLY MISSING DEATH ON HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECTIVE AXLE BEAM YET HAS MADE NO ATTEMPT TO MY KNOWLEDGE TO RECALL. LIVES ARE HANGING IN THE BALANCE AND IT SEEMS THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT LOSING MONEY. I CAN UNDERSTAND THE CONCERN ESPECIALLY WITH THE ECONOMY THE WAY IT IS. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY WITH THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF THEIR CHILDREN BECAUSE FORD DECIDED THAT MONEY WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HUMAN LIFE. NOT TO MENTION HAD THEY BEEN MORE CONCERNED ABOUT QUALITY VS. QUANTITY, PERHAPS THIS WOULD NOT BE A COMPLAINT THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE TO MAKE. THE MONEY SPENT REPAIRING THE DEFECT THAT IS NOT COVERED ($1,000) STILL DOESN'T GIVE YOU PEACE OF MIND THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE SAFE BECAUSE THEY HAVE MADE NO EFFORT TO REPLACE THE PART WITH ONE THAT IS NOT DEFECTIVE. YOU JUST REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART! WHEN DID HUMAN LIFE BECOME SO INSIGNIFICANT THAT A CAR COMPANY WHO KNOWS THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE, CAN IGNORE IT PUTTING LIVES AT RISK AND MAKE MONEY OFF OF THE ROLLING DEAD! IF YOU ARE LIKE ME, YOU NEED TO GET TO WORK, PICK UP, DROP OFF KIDS, GO OUT OF TOWN. AS LONG AS THERE IS NO RECALL EFFORT FOR THIS PART, AMERICANS TAKE THE RISK OF NEVER COMING HOME TO THEIR FAMILIES OR THEIR FAMILIES NOT MAKING IT HOME FROM A LITTLE LEAGUE FOOTBALL GAMES, SOCCER, BALLET ETC. DEALER SAID IT THE CRUISE CONTROL BRAKE SWITCH CAUSED ALL THE FAILURES, AND I PAID $240 FOR THE REPAIR, BUT 1 MINUTE AFTER PICKING IT UP, SAME SYMPTOMS RECURRED. THEY SAID THEY WILL REPLACE THE SWITCH AND HARNESS WHEN THEY GET PARTS NEXT WEEK. *TR
ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) DEFECTIVE ON 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX 3.8L ENGINE. APPARENTLY A COMMON (DESIGN FLAW) PROBLEM. 1) ABS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WARMS UP. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST HIM UNTIL HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,500.

THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
