TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE VEHICLE HAS BRIGADIER/REYNOLDS TOURING XT PLUS TIRES, SIZE P215/70R15 97T. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT AND THE STEEL BELTS WERE VISIBLE. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN APRIL OF 2008. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TREAD DEPTH WAS STILL IN TACT. THE DOT AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000. MY FUSES KEEP POPPING UNDER THE DASH AFTER FINDING BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ON SOME WIRING I GOOGLED SOME THINGS FINDING OUT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND I CAUGHT MINE BEFORE A SERIOUS FIRE. *TR
ABS LIGHT COMES, ALSO THE O/D OFF LIGHT COMES ON AND FLASHES RAPIDLY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BOUNCED WHILE SHE DROVE AT ANY SPEED. WHEN SHE INSPECTED, SHE SAW THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE AXLE WAS REPLACED. A YEAR AND A HALF LATER WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE EXAMINED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS BENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,633 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,944. UPDATED 01/14/11*LJ
FORD WINDSTAR ABS BRAKE, CRUISE CONTROL, SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM: FAILURE OF BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (2B264). I UNDERSTAND THIS HAS BEEN ON ONGOING COMPLAINT, REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES TO THE NHTSA. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE STABILIZER BAR FRACTURED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. AS A CONSEQUENCE HER RISK FOR SERIOUS INJURY AND CRASH WERE INCREASED. SHE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP IN WHICH A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE EXCEEDING $1500.00. AS OF CURRENT DATE THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON FIRST, THEN THE ODOMETER WENT TO DASHES, THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO ZERO, THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING AND ONE OF THE TIMES IT WENT OUT MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. *TR
MY MINIVAN HAS STARTED ACTING STRANGE WITH LIGHTS FLICKERING INSIDE AND ON THE DASH BOARD. I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS NOT BEING ON FROM TIME TO TIME AND THE HEADLIGHTS HAVING GONE OUT. I ONLY FOUND THIS OUT WHEN TURNING ONTO A DARK STREET WITH NO STREET LIGHTS ONE NIGHT COMING HOME AND SAW NO LIGHTS FROM MY VEHICLE AND ONLY DARKNESS. I WAS TERRIFIED THINKING NO OTHER CAR WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE ME . AS I SAW OTHER CARS COMING DOWN THE (NEIGHBORHOOD ) STREET, I WOULD PULL OVER TO KEEP FROM HAVING THEM RUN INTO ME. I GOT HOME AND PARKED THE CAR AND REFUSE TO DRY IT ANYMORE AT NIGHT UNTIL I CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIGURE IT OUT AND SAYS THIS IS A DEFECT WITH FORD AND SOME TYPE OF WIRING HARNESS. I HAVE BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY, HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY A MECHANIC AND EVEN PUT ON A MACHINE AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY "GUESSES" BUT NO DEFINITE FIX. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO TRY TO FIX THE "GUESSES" AND STILL NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, I BEGAN TO NOTICE MY ABS LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD MY ABS MODULE WAS FAULTY ALONG WITH THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. I WAS GIVEN THE FOLLOWING RESULTS, C1155 - LF SPEED INPUT FAIL C1185 - POWER RELAY CIRCUIT FAIL OTHER CODES BELOW ARE CAUSED BY C1185 AND C1155 C1144 - WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RR TONE RING TOOTH MISSING FAULT C1198 - ABS INLET VALVE COIL LF CIRCUIT FAILURE C1210 - ABS OUTLET VALVE COIL RF CIRCUIT FAILURE C1214 - ABS INLET VALVE COIL RF CIRCUIT FAILURE C1233 - SPEED WHEEL LF INPUT SIGNAL MISSING C1242 - ABS OUTLET VALVE COIL LR CIRCUIT FAILURE C1250 - ABS INLET VALVE COIL LR CIRCUIT FAILURE RECOMMEND REPLACING ABS ECU MODULE AND L/F SPEED SENSOR. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT OVER THE PAST YEAR BUT OVER THE PAST MONTH THE ABS INDICATOR LAMP IS ALWAYS ON. THE ISSUE HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED AS I WANTED TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE MORE. SOME QUICK SEARCHING ON GOOGLE QUICKLY BROUGHT UP THAT I AM NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT BUT ONE OF MANY. I HAD FOUND ON MANY WEBSITES THAT C1185 IS RELATED TO THE EXPANDING AND CONTRACTING OF THE HEATSINK ON WHICH THE ABS ECU IS MOUNTED. THE RESULT IS THE ABS ECU FAILS TO POWER ON CORRECTLY DUE TO THE STRESS PLACED ON THE SENSITIVE ELECTRONIC BOARD. I AM ASSUMING THAT THE L/F WHEEL SENSOR IS A SEPARATE ISSUE BUT WITH A BAD ABS ECU, IT COULD POSSIBLY BE RELATED. *TR
ABS TRACTION CONTROL ERROR ON ALL THE TIME INTERMITTENT SPEED CONTROL WITH SPEEDOMETER MISREADS AND CLUSTER FAILURE. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING, HEAT WENT OUT, ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING, SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, REAR BLOWERS STOPPED WORKING, REAR WIPER STOPPED WORKING, BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. WE REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID AND CHANGED THE PADS, THIS SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM MOMENTARILY BUT THEN THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AND THE GAS HAND BEGAN TO MOVE SLOWLY ALSO. THE BRAKES SQUEAL REALLY BAD WHEN STOPPING AND TURNING AND THEY HAVE TO BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO MAKE THE VAN STOP. *TR
MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR'S SPEEDOMETER,ODOMETER AND CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK. THE #10 FUSE CONTINUOUSLY BLOWS AND THE ABS LIGHT IS ON. I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL FUSES, PURCHASED A NEW BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH, AND THE CONNECTOR AND HAD THEM INSTALLED. *TR
I WAS UNDER THE REAR OF MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR CHECKING THE CONDITION OF MY SPARE TIRE WHEN I LOOKED AT THE AXLE AND NOTICED A CRACK FORMING ON THE AXLE CLOSES TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. NOW AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMAND FAILURE BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS HAZARDOUS AND DEADLY DEFECT WHICH COULD END UP INTO A CRASH. *TR
DRIVING MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR (85,000 MILES ON IT) ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON SUNDAY 3/15/09. THE BACK END OF THE CAR GAVE WAY AND STARTED FISH TAILING. TURNS OUT THE REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF ON ITS OWN. I HAVE THE CAR AT BILL BROWN AUTO CLINIC IN CANTON, MICHIGAN. THEY HAVE ORDERED A NEW AXLE. THEY ORIGINALLY WERE GOING TO GET A USED ONE FROM A SALVAGE YARD BUT INDICATED THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH FORD WINDSTARS AND SO THEY ORDERED A NEW AXLE. EVERYONE I TALK TO SAYS REAR AXLES SHOULD NOT GIVE WAY THE WAY THIS WINDSTAR DID. THE INDICATION IS IT HAD A LONG TERM CRACK AND RUSTED THROUGH UNTIL IT GAVE WAY. THE CAR DID FISH TAIL WILDLY BUT DID NOT FLIP OVER BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE ABS LIGHT ON THE DASH INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON AND STAYS ON UNTIL I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A YEAR. I FINALLY HAD A MECHANIC HOOK UP A DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER AND READ THE ERROR CODE, WHICH IS C1185 (PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE). DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH I FIND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE FOR THE 1999-2003 WINDSTARS. LOOKS LIKE FORD NEEDS TO DO A RECALL OF THIS COMPONENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A RUMBLING SOUND WHEN DRIVING OVER POTHOLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED 3/4 OF AN INCH INTO THE WHEELS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE WINDSTAR. HE FEELS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 79,000.

REAR AXLE BEAM CRACKED IN HALF ABOUT 1.5 FT FROM DRIVER SIDE WHEEL . HEARD CLUNKING SOUND MECHANIC FOUND CRACK. *TR
MILEAGE 65,000 MY WIFE AND 3 TODDLERS DROVE TO A TIRE STORE MONDAY MORNING (MARCH 5, 2009) TO PURCHASED TWO NEW TIRES FOR THE BACK. THE MECHANICS DROVE THE CAR ONTO THE HYDRAULIC JACKS AND AS SOON AS THE CAR WAS BEING LIFTED UP, THEY NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THAT THE REAR AXLE OF THE CAR WAS SPLITTING IN HALF... SO THEY TELL MY WIFE WHAT HAPPENED AND SHE CALLS ME UP. WELL I'M ROUGHLY 30 MILES AWAY, SO I HAD TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF AND DROVE MY LITTLE CAR TO THE PLACE AND COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. THE REAR AXLE WAS BROKEN WITH INCH REMAINING ON THE TOP PORTION BEFORE IT COMPLETELY BROKE IN HALF. UNBELIEVABLE! THE BREAK WAS ABOUT 2 FEET FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET IT FIXED SINCE IT WAS ALREADY BROKEN AND UP IN THE AIR. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY UP AND WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE MECHANIC EVEN TOLD ME AND MY WIFE THAT HE WENT THROUGH 4 REAR AXLES ROUGHLY THE SAME AS MY VAN! AFTER HEARING OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS, FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD TELL THE PUBLIC AND HAVE THERE VANS CHECKED BEFORE SOMEONE OR FAMILY GETS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED!! THE LORD WAS WITH US ON THAT DAY. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS? *TR

FORD WINDSTAR BRAKE, ABS BRAKE, CRUISE CONTROL, AND SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS; ALL THESE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY A BRAKE LEAK FROM "THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER). THIS LEAK ALSO CAUSES BRAKE FLUID TO WICK DOWN TWO WIRES TO THE ABS BRAKE MODULE (2C219). THE FLUID ACCUMULATES ON THE (ALWAYS ON) POWER CONNECTORS FOR THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH ARE POWERED BY FUSES 101 AND 102 AND ARE BOTH 40 AMP. THE FLUID ATTRACTS MOISTURE, ROAD SALT AND LEADS TO A FIRE WHEN THE FLUID AND MOISTURE ACT AS CONDUCTOR BETWEEN THE HOT LEADS AND GROUND. THIS SWITCH HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF OTHER FORD RECALLS, JUST NOT THE WINDSTAR VAN YET. IT IS HAPPENING TO ALMOST EVERY FORD WINDSTAR MODEL YEARS 1999 - 2003. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COOPERATION. EXPERIENCED BLOWN #10 FUSE IN 2000 FORD WINDSTAR TODAY, 2/25/09. LOST SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, ABS LIGHT ON, LOST CRUISE CONTROL, A/C BLEW HOT AIR. REPLACEMENT FUSE BLEW UPON TURNING IGNITION TO ON. FOUND LEAKING BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH BENEATH MASTER CYLINDER. I DISCONNECTED THE PRESSURE SWITCH AND FUSE #10, WHICH RESTORED SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, AND THE ABS LIGHT IS OUT. THE FUSE HELD FOR A BRIEF TEST DRIVE. WILL REPLACE PRESSURE SWITCH. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR- THE #10 FUSE KEEPS BLOWING CONTINUOUSLY - APPARENTLY DUE TO FAULTY/LEAKING BRAKE CYLINDER- LEADING TO THE #10 FUSE TO SHORT OUT & BLOW. I NOW HAVE NO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHAT-SO-EVER! THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, AS IT IS A HUGE FIRE HAZARD. I NOW HAVE TO PURCHASE A KIT TO FIX THE PROBLEM (THAT THEY GRACIOUSLY CAME UP WITH SINCE SO MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM!). *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN - CRUISE, ABS, SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. FOUND BLOWN FUSE AND REPLACED. HAS BLOWN SEVERAL MORE TIMES. FOUND THE SWITCH UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS RECALLED ON MOST OTHER VEHICLES NOT WINDSTAR. WHY NOT WINDSTAR? 2000 FORD WINDSTAR BRAKE FLUID LEAKED AND MELTED THE WIRES WE HAVE TO REPLACE WIRES AND THE PART THAT WAS LEAKING SOMETHING TO WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
I HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY ABS LIGHT COMING ON. IT COMES ON AND GOES OFF AS IT WANTS. I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER LIGHT WITH A "!" I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL ISN'T WORKING. I LOOKED THIS UP AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT THERE IS A CHANCE IT COULD ACTUALLY CAUSE A FIRE. I AM WORRIED SINCE I HAVE 4 KIDS! THERE SEEM TO BE A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND ON THE NET. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IS BEING LOOKED INTO? *TR
THE SPEED CONTROL PRESSURE SWITCH IN OUR MINI VAN CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE WAS THICK BLACK SMOKE POURING OUT FROM UNDER OUR HOOD. OUR CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS. IT IS ALSO LINKED TO OUR MASTER CYLINDER, FOR OUR BRAKES. THIS CAUSED OUR BRAKES TO STOP WORKING. WE NEED A NEW PRESSURE SWITCH, AND A NEW MASTER CYLINDER FOR OUR VEHICLE. WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE NO INJURIES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION KEY, THE SIDE AIR BAG ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES FROM THE MODERATE FORCE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 124,000.
FORD WINDSTAR 2000 - TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 110,000 AND RUMOR IS THAT FORD KNEW THESE WERE WEAK BUT INSTALLED THEM ANYWAY. POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED THREE TIMES BETWEEN 60,000 AND 100,000. POWER STEERING PISTONS EACH FAILED AROUND 80,000. HEATER/AIR CONDITIONING AIR FLAPPER FAILED - REPLACEMENT WAS $1500 INSTALLED. SLIDING DOOR RELEASE STUCK AT 80,000. THE CAR IS A JUNKSTAR. I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD - THEY BUILD WITH PLASTIC AND LIGHTWEIGHT JUNK AND THEY JUST FAIL - FAIL - FAIL. *TR
BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASED. ABS LIGHTS ON AND ALL SENSORS CHECKED AND WORKING FINE. ABS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND ALL RECALL ITEMS PERFORMED BY FORD. NEWER BRAKES (1 YEAR) AND NEW TIRES 4 TIRES). *TR
PUT NEW ENGINE IN THE VAN MECHANIC LEFT THE BRAKE DEACTIVATION SWITCH CONNECTED. MY GAUGES WENT OUT ON THE RIDE HOME FROM MECHANIC CHECKED TO SEE IF SWITCH WAS HOOKED UP AND IT WAS TOOK PICTURES OF THE SWITCH AND ASSEMBLY LOOKS LIKE THE SWITCH MELTED AS A RESULT OF A FIRE. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2000 FORD WIDSTAR. INITIALLY THE PROBLEM WAS A MATTER OF THE ABS LIGHT REMAINING ON. LATER I BEGAN TO HAVE THE SMELL OF BURNING IN THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY MY REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ON UNLESS I TOOK PRECAUTIONS TO MANUALLY PULL UP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER PAIDING A LOCAL MECHANIC TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES PREIOUSLY MENTIONED, I RECIEVED A RECALL LETTER. I TOOK THE LETTER AND REPLACED PART TO MY AREA FORD DEALER WHO SUBMITED REIMBURSMENT INVOICES. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I RETURNED TO THE DEALER TO INQUIRE AS TO THE STATUS OF THE REIMBUSMENT AND WAS ISSUED A CHECK WHICH COVERED ONLY A THIRD OF THE COST OF MY REPAIRS. *TR

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTION WENT TO ACCELERATE AND MAIN DRIVE GEAR FAILED. LOST ALL FORWARD DRIVE GEARS ONLY REVERSE GEAR WORKED. THIS LATEST AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED AT 87,736 MILES ON 12-11-2008. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED EARLIER ON SAME VEHICLE AT 42,130 MILES ON 12-3-2004. BOTH TIMES MAIN DRIVE GEAR SEPARATED FROM DRIVE CUP ACCORDING TO MY TRANSMISSION SHOP. TRANSMISSION REQUIRED A COMPLETE RE-BUILD BOTH TIMES. TRANSMISSION SHOP INDICATED THIS IS COMMON DESIGN ISSUE WITH FORD WINDSTARS AND LOOKING AT NHTSA WEB SITE THERE ARE A LOT MORE FOLKS SUFFERING FROM THIS FORD DESIGN ISSUE. HAVE THE 3.8 L 6 CYLINDER ENGINE IN THIS VAN. US CONSUMERS SHOULD FILE A CLASS LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD FOR THEIR FAILURE TO RE-CALL THIS KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE. HAVE DRIVE GEAR PART THAT FAILED IF NHTSA WOULD LIKE TO ANALYZE PART. I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT AND ADVISE NO ONE ELSE TO BUY ONE. I HAVE AN ABS LIGHT THAT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON IN MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN. WHEN MY VAN WAS UNDER WARRANTY I TRIED TO GET MY DEALER TO CHECK FOR THE CODES ON THE COMPUTER BUT THE LIGHT WASN'T ON AT THE TIME AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. DRIVING TO CHURCH THIS MORNING AND NOTICED THE BACK END OF THE CAR SWAYING. I INSPECTED THE TIRES AND ALL APPEARED TO BE IN ORDER. I DROVE HOME AND NOTICED THE SAME THING. AT HOME INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO FIND THE REAR AXLE COMPLETELY SEVERED (EXCEPT ABOUT 1 INCH OF METAL) ABOUT 1.5 FEET FROM THE LEFT WHEEL. NOTHING DONE ABOUT THIS YET AS WE JUST DISCOVERED THIS TONIGHT. I SEARCHED ON AUTOBEEF.COM AND FOUND 8-9 OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE VERY SAME FAILURE. *TR
I TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR CHECKUP BEFORE GOING FOR DMV INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD BY MY AUTO REPAIR SHOP THAT THE RARE AXEL WAS BROKEN, MY FIRST RESPONSE ARE YOU JOKING!? I TOLD HIM NOT TO DO ANY THING UNTIL I ARRIVED BECAUSE I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I WAS HEARING. WHEN I ARRIVED I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES SINCE I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO CAUSE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE, IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE EVERYTHING CAME APART. I WAS TOLD BY MY REPAIR SHOP THAT THIS WAS THE 5TH TIME THEY SAW THIS IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS. THIS CAR IS USED ON THE PARKWAY ON A DAILY BASIS, THIS COULD HAVE BROKEN WHILE TRAVELING OVER 60MPH, GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS WAITING TO HAPPEN IF THIS WAS NOT DISCOVERED. PEP BOYS TOURING SE TIRE SEPARATION. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH THE TIRE SEPARATED CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF CONTROL. THE SEPARATING TREAD CAUSED $2,500 IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE PURCHASED FROM PEPBOYS, SIERRA VISTA, AZ 85635, OCT 2004 AND HAVE APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES ON THEM. IT APPEARS THAT THE OTHER FRONT TIRE MAY BE GETTING READY TO SEPARATE BECAUSE I AM GETTING THE SAME FEEL IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT I EXPERIENCED BEFORE THE FIRST TIRE FAILED. HE STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. PRIOR TO THE FIRE THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NEED PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. FORD CONFIRMED THAT THE SWITCH SHOULD BE REPAIRED WITHOUT DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS. THE FAILURE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V399000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. UPDATED 11/08/10 * BF ACCORDING TO THE PAPERWORK, THE CONSUMER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE POWER STEERING FAILING. MILEAGE ~122,000. AFTER SHOCKS AND STRUTS WERE REPLACED 2 MONTHS AGO, A GRINDING AND POPPING WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING AND DRIVING OVER 20 MPH. CAR WAS BROUGHT IN TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SHOCK PLATE WAS GOING BAD. YOU COULD PLACE YOUR HAND ON TOP OF THE SHOCK PLATE WHILE THE WHEEL WAS TURNING AND FEEL IT GRINDING. REPLACED SHOCK PLATE ON 11/5/08; NOISES GOT WORSE. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN ON 11/11/08 AND AT FIRST THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THE NEW PLATE WAS BAD AND THE OTHER PLATE WAS GOING OUT. YOU PUT YOUR HAND ON BOTH PLATES AND FELT THE GRINDING AS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. REPAIRMAN DECIDED TO SEE IF A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BY FORD ON THE PROBLEM; IT WAS. FORD STATED THAT A SPACER NEEDED TO BE PLACED BETWEEN THE SHOCKS AND THE SHOCK PLATE IF THIS NOISE BEGINS TO HAPPEN. I AM NOW WAITING FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE PARTS IN AND ANTICIPATING PAYING AT LEAST $400.00 FOR THIS REPAIR. IF FORD KNOWS ABOUT THEIR DESIGN FLAW, THEY SHOULD AT LEAST PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT PART. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR PARTS AND REPLACEMENT ON SOME FORD DESIGN FLAW; A FLAW IN WHICH FORD HAD DESCRIBED IN A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHEN IT CAME TO HAVING TO FIX IT. *TR
