TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE POWER, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEADLIGHTS, AIR CONDITIONER, AND RADIO. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. PRIOR TO BEING TOWED, THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED FOR SOME TIME. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED IN OCTOBER OF 2007. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 110,279.
ABS & TRACTION CONTROL DASH LIGHTS ON CONTINUOUSLY. SPEEDOMETER NOT ACCURATE & NO CRUISE CONTROL OPERATION. NO ABS BRAKES? *TR
CONSTANTLY LOSING BRAKE FLUID. CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING, ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. BLOWS FUSES A/C QUITS SPEEDOMETERS DOESN'T WORK. REPLACED SENSOR ON BOTTOM OF BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, WILL HAVE TO REPLACE ABS MODULE AND POSSIBLY ECU UNIT. *TR

ABS LIGHT COMES ON IN THE AFTERNOON AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. IT RESETS ITSELF WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND THEN RESTARTED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR, BUT ONLY HAPPENS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AND IN HOT WEATHER. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CHECKING THE WIRING FOR A LOOSE CONNECTION. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD USE A CODE READER ON THE CAR, BUT WOULD COST $$$$ TO OBTAIN THE READING. AUTO ZONE HAS AN ABS CODE READER FOR SALE, BUT COSTS OVER $300.00. *TR
LOSS OF SPEEDOMETER FUNCTION, ODOMETER FUNCTION, CRUISE CONTROL, ABS CONTROLS ON 2000 WINDSTAR AS A RESULT OF SHORT CIRCUITING DUE TO LEAKING CRUISE CONTROL DE-ACTIVATION SWITCH. *TR
BRAKES SQUEAKING THEN ABS LIGHT ON THEN SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT TRAX CONTROL OFF AND MILEAGE METER OFF TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER TO FIX THE PROBLEM WILL KEEP PARTS. *TR
WE WERE BACKING SLOWLY OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE VAN SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS CAUGHT UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND WAS DRAGGING. WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WE NOTICED THE REAR WHEELS WERE BOTH TILTED INWARD AND THE REAR AXLE WAS DRAGGING ON THE GROUND, DAMAGING THE DRIVEWAY. THE VAN HAD TO BE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IN WHICH THE REAR AXLE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000 MILES. *TR

THE CAR SEEMED AT FIRST TO BE HYDROPLANING DUE TO THE RAIN, BUT THEN IT GOT MUCH WORSE. WHEN I REMOVED THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL, I SAW THE REAR AXLE BEAM HAD SNAPPED AT THE WELD POINT. THE CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT WE SHOULD HAVE HAD IT TOWED IN BECAUSE SOMETIMES THE WHEELS WILL SHEAR AWAY FROM THE SUSPENSION WHEN THE BEAM IS BROKEN. THIS CAR HAS ONLY BEEN IN ONE MINOR ACCIDENT, WITH MINIMAL BODY DAMAGE AND NO DAMAGE AT ALL TO THE BODY STRUCTURE, SO THIS WAS WITHOUT QUESTION A MANUFACTURE DEFECT IN THE PART. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION ON A GREEN LIGHT WITH OUR 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND A VW JETTA RAN THE RED LIGHT AND MY HUSBAND HIT HIM ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE HOLE FRONT OF THE VAN WAS PUSHED IN AND CONSIDERED TOTALED. BOTH OF THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE BUMPER ON THE VAN WAS BASICALLY HANGING ON THE GROUND AND THE HOOD BENT UP WITH EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE FRONT. *TR
I'VE HAD THE REAR AXLE BREAK ON TWO SEPARATE 2000 FORD WINDSTARS. JUDGING FROM THE COMPLAINTS I'VE SEEN HERE (SIMILAR REPORTS POSTED BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN SUSPENSION, REAR SUSPENSION AND REAR SUSPENSION AXLE ASSEMBLY COMPONENT CATEGORIES) I'VE GOT PLENTY OF COMPANY ... LOOKS LIKE THE PROBLEM EXISTS ON 2001 WINDSTARS AS WELL , I DIDN'T LOOK ANY FURTHER, BUT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THEY HIT THE 10 YEAR OR 100,000 MILE MARK. I'M FILING TWO SEPARATE COMPLAINTS FOR THE TWO CARS (FIRST CAR, FORD GUY INSISTED I DID IT!). THIS IS THE FIRST. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE MY MECHANIC SPOTTED THE REAR AXLE HOUSING HAD CORRODED AND SPLIT RIGHT IN HALF TO THE LEFT OF ITS CENTER. I CALLED FORD MAIN OFFICE, THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND BECAUSE I WAS BEYOND WARRANTY, THEY COULD DO NOTHING, YADDA YADDA YADDA. I WENT TO THE SERVICE DEPT. AT THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2000 AND HE SAID I MUST HAVE DONE IT BECAUSE WE TOWED A POP-UP CAMPER (ABOUT A HALF DOZEN TIMES IN THE NEARLY 9 YEARS I OWNED THE CAR). WE PAID OUR PRIVATE MECHANIC TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE, BUT SINCE HAS SEEN OTHERS COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE SAME SPOT. I HAVE PHOTOS OF BOTH OF MY CARS SHOWING HOW THE SAME THING HAPPENED IN THE SAME SPOT. THIS FIRST CAR HAD JUST UNDER 110,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH OVER A ROAD BUMP. THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE AXLE AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,430 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000. I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. RECENTLY THE FUSE BLEW THAT CONTROLLED THE ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, HEATING SYSTEMS. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THAT IS CAUSING THESE ISSUES. *TR
PROBLEM STARTED WITH AN INTERMITTENT ABS LIGHT, WHICH WAS MORE APPARENT IN HOT WEATHER. EVENTUALLY ABS LIGHT WAS STEADY ON. THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT THE ABS SYSTEM IS DEACTIVATED IN THIS VEHICLE, RESULTING IN SAFETY CONCERNS FOR CONTROL AND STABILITY IN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATIONS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM AS WELL AS AN EXPENSIVE COMPONENT (ABS COMPUTER) TO REMEDY. *TR
THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS) (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER) OVER TIME DEVELOPED A LEAK. THIS LEAK LEAD TO THE LOSS OF CRUISE CONTROL. AFTER SOME TIME IT WAS REPLACED, THE RECALL WAS THEN ISSUED AND I HAD THE VAN CHECKED BY FORD. THEY REIMBURSED ME FOR THE REPAIR I HAD DONE PER THE RECALL 09S09. SINCE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED I HAVE INTERMITTENT ABS LIGHT COMING ON WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS THIS HAPPENS ESPECIALLY IN WARMER WEATHER. I CAN SEE ON MY VAN WHERE FLUID LEAKED ONTO SOME WIRES BELOW THE SWITCH THAT WAS REPLACED. FORD SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. *TR
CAR DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT FELT LIKE BACK END SWAYING. MADE NOISE. BROUGHT TO REPAIR SHOP, NEED NEW REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY, OR ALSO CALLED REAR I BEAM ASSEMBLY, IT HAS A MAJOR CRACK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THIS PART IS ON BACKORDER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER, FUEL AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES WERE PROVIDING INACCURATE READINGS. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD NEED REPLACING BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 201,453.
MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR ABS, CRUISE, CONTROL AND SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO FORD DEALER SAID THE PRESSURE SWITCH AND PIGTAL SPLICE IN HARNESS WAS DEFECTIVE. ALSO THE ECM, ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEAL REPLACED THE PRESSURE SWITCH FOR $302. TO REPLACE THE ECM WAS $1200 AND COULDN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE. ABS SYSTEM NOT WORKING AS DEFECTIVE. *TR
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND FOR 2 YEARS, MY BRAKE HAVE BEEN ON, SPEEDOMETER HAS NOT WORKED ALONG WITH CRUISE CONTROL AND MILEAGE READER. BEINGS ITS DUE FOR INSPECTION, MY HUSBAND HAS RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND HAS FOUND THAT THE ABS SWITCH IS TO BLAME. THE CONNECTION IS COVERED IN BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER AND IS SHORTING OUT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, ALONG WITH OTHERS ON FUSE #10. WE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2000 WINDSTAR AND THAT IT COULD CAUSE A SEVERE FIRE AND JEOPARDIZE THE SAFETY OF US AND OUR 3 KIDS. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR SEL. DISCOVERED A CRACK IN REAR AXLE. IT WAS LOCATED NEAR THE CENTER OF SPAN BETWEEN REAR WHEELS. THE CRACK RAN FROM TOP TO BOTTOM OF THE AXLE ABOUT 3" AND WAS SPREAD APART APPROXIMATELY 1/8" ON BOTTOM. THERE WAS ONLY 50% OF THE AXLE REMAINING. FORTUNATELY I DISCOVERED IT JUST PRIOR TO A VACATION TRIP WITH OUR FAMILY OF 5. THERE HAS BEEN NO KNOWN EVENT TO EXPLAIN THE CAUSE. *TR
EVERY TIME WE GET HEAVY RAINS MY FRONT WINDSHIELD LEAKS. WHILE CHECKING RECALLS I HAVE COME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM WHICH MY MECHANIC EXPLAINED TO ME EXACTLY AS THE RECALL READS. FORD WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL ON THEIR SITE. I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS TOO OLD OR IT WAS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHICH. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A FORD DEALER ALMOST A YEAR AGO. I WAS TOLD IN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT MY WINDSHIELD MAY COME LOOSE BECAUSE OF THE BONDING AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON PRIOR TO THE CRASH. WHEN MY WIFE TRIED TO STOP HER 2000 FORD WINDSTAR SKIDDED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. IF THE ABS SYSTEM WAS WORKING PROPERLY THE ACCIDENT WOULD NOT HAD HAPPENED. *TR
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINSTAR, THE REAR AXLE BEAM TWICE NOW FOR CRACKING/SPLITTING ,BOTH HAPPEND IN THE SAME SPOT,WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF THAT? BAD METAL ! I REPLACE IT WITH A 96 REAR AXLE WHICH HAS SUPPORTS AND A SUPPORT BEAM UNDER THE AXLE, WISH WHEN I CHANGED IT THE FIRST TIME I CHANGED IT WITH THIS YEAR AXLE!! NEXT I JUST NOTICED THE OTHER DAY THAT THE SUB-FRAME (ENGINE CRADLE ) IS ROTTED OUT ON THE PASSANGER SIDE! WHEN GOING TO THE JUNK YARDS I HAVE NOTICED HIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, WHY WOULDN'T FORD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS? AFTER ALL THESE ARE FAMILY VANS THAT HAUL CHRILDREN 99% OF THE TIME! THESE THINGS COULD CAUSE DEATH VERY EASY! IF THEY FAIL ON A HWY GOD HELP THEM !!!
WE LOST OUR ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, CRUISE CONTROL AND AIR CONDITIONING ON A RECENT TRIP FROM VA TO NC. AT FIRST, REPLACING THE #10AMP FUSE TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. WITHIN ONE WEEK, THE FUSES BEGAN TO BLOW AS SOON AS THE CAR IS TURNED ON. NOW, IT BLOWS THE FUSE EACH TIME A NEW ONE IS REPLACED. THEREFORE, NO ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, COOL AIR, CRUISE CONTROL, ETC. AFTER A LOT OF RESEARCH ON LINE, WE HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS SOURCES WITH INCREDIBLE DOCUMENTATION AND CONSISTENCY SHOWING THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN PERVASIVE ACROSS FORD WINDSTAR PRODUCTS IN THE AGE RANGE OF OUR VAN. WE HAVE NOT HAD A FIRE, BUT THERE IS ENOUGH OF A RECORD ON THIS, THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT WITH FORD BEFORE SOMEONE HAS A FIRE THAT CAUSES DEATH OR INJURY. I WAS DRIVING AT 3:00PM WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VAN WHEN MY BACK DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT AND THE REAR AXLE SPIT INTO TWO. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARRING. I DRIVE A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR SEL WITH APPROX. 100K MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. ON JUNE 12, 2008, THE HANDLING IN THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED OF A 4-INCH CRACK IN THE REAR AXLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE THE TOOLS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; THEREFORE, HE WILL REASSEMBLE THE VEHICLE SO IT CAN BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 137,000.
ABS LIGHT HAS SUDDENLY STARTED INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATING. *TR
BRAKE DEACTIVATION SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED AND DEVELOPED LEAK, LETTING BRAKE FLUID DRIP INTO A CONNECTOR AND CAUSING IT TO SHORT OUT. FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 99-03 FORD WINDSTARS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE FRONT TIE ROD BROKE. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE LEFT TIE ROD, STRUT, UPPER STRUT AND UPPER BEARING BECAUSE THEY WERE COVERED WITH RUST. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AND HEARD SOMETHING SNAP IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THEN THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING SOUND. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BECAUSE OF RUST. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS WAS A DEFECT BECAUSE SALT WAS NOT USED ON THE ROAD NEAR HIS RESIDENCE. I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE I BOUGHT THE VAN, WITCH WAS IN FEB OF 08. TODAY JUNE2 OF 08 THE SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT AND SO DID ODOMETER. IT IS ALSO KNOW TO CAUSE FIRES FROM HAVING FAULTY BRAKE DEACTIVATION SWITCH. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS FORD HAS RECALLED LOTS OF THE CARS AND TRUCKS FOR THIS SWITCH BECAUSE IT CAUSES FIRES. *TR
INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. WHEN THE ENGINE HEATS UP A LITTLE THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON INDICATING THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER WORKING. IN THE MORNING WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED THE LIGHT ARE OFF FOR AWHILE UNTIL THE ENGINE HAS HAD TIME TO HEAT UP. *TR
ABS LIGHT STARTED COMING ON OCCASIONALLY, BUT HAS NOW PROGRESSED TO COMING ON SHORTLY AFTER STARTING ALMOST EVERY TRIP.
2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX VAN WITH APPROX 97,000 MILES. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED IN A PARKING LOT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LOUD BANG AND SHE COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VAN. ONE WHEEL IN THE FRONT WAS STRAIGHT AND THE OTHER FRONT WHEEL WAS TURNED AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER. THE PROBLEM WAS THE SUB FRAME RUSTED OUT, CAUSING THE TRANSAXLE TO PULL AWAY FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND DROPPING THE ENGINE. THE REPAIRS INCLUDED REPLACING THE SUB FRAME ASSEMBLY,TRANSAXLE, SEALS ETC. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.... I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO COVER ANY PORTION OF THE COST. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED ISSUE BECAUSE IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE OPEN ROAD AND THIS HAPPENED, SHE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND THE END RESULT WOULD BE A COLLISION. I HAVE SAVED ALL THE PARTS FOR FUTURE INVESTIGATION. *TR
ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON MINUTES AFTER GETTING INTO CAR. APPROX 6MO. TO A YEAR THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT. NOW THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING AND THE ODOMETER WENT OUT. THE AIR COND BLOWS BUT NO COLD AIR. LOOKED ON THE INTERNET FOR SOLUTIONS AND FOUND THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME INCIDENTS THE BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING DOWN AND CAUSING A FIRE. HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE A RECALL. I WILL PROBABLY TRY TO GET THE ABS SENSOR ON THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH IS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID, WHICH CAUSED A FUSE TO BLOW RESULTING IN LOSE OF SOME SPEEDOMETER, MILEAGE, AND HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM. THIS HAS BEEN CHECKED OUT, EVALUATED, AND DOCUMENTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC HAS SINCE DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
MAR 2008 WE TOOK OUR 2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN IN FOR A CLICKING NOISE. WAS TOLD THAT THE PLASTIC MANIFOLD INTAKE VALVE WAS BROKE. THEY SAID TO FIX IT WOULD BE ABOUT $800 BUT IF THE NOISE DID NOT BOTHER US WE COULD LEAVE IT. MAY 2008 WAS REAR ENDED AND TWO DAYS LATER VAN BROKE DOWN. TOOK IT TO HARRIS FORD IN LYNNWOOD WAS TOLD THE MANIFOLD WAS COMPLETELY BROKE AND HAD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AT A COST OF $1200. I KNOW THE PLASTIC MANIFOLDS WERE RECALLED ON OTHER MODELS AND THINK THE VANS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. WHAT IS MY RECOURSE? *TR
ABS LIGHT TURNS ON. ODOMETER & SPEEDOMETER DIED. AC NOT COLD. ELECTRONIC [LIKE AUTO SLIDING DOOR, CRUISE CONTROL] WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THIS "BREAK-DOWN" IS OBSERVED INITIALLY (FALL 2007) WITH CRUISE CONTROL STOPS WORKING. SINCE IT'S ALREADY OUT OF WARRANTY AND WE'RE A BIT TIGHT WITH OUR BUDGET, WE DECIDED NOT TO FIX IT. EVERY NOW AND THEN, THE SLIDING DOOR STOPS WORKING, BUT IT SEEMS TO COMEBACK AGAIN ON ITS OWN, SO WE'RE LIVING THROUGH THESE MALFUNCTIONS. ON MAY 19, 2008, THE ABS LIGHT IS ON, SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER DIED AND AC NOT COLD; THINKING SOME OF THESE ARE URGENT AND IMPORTANT WE BROUGHT IT TO FIRESTONES WHICH RETURNED THE CAR AND ADVISED US TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. LATER I LEARN THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN FORD WINDSTAR 2000 AND THUS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS RIGHT AWAY. THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF QUITE OFTEN. AT ABOUT 125,000 MILES I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR. MY O/D LIGHT ALSO BEGAN TO FLASH AND MY SPEEDOMETER JUMPED UP AND DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND HAD TO HAVE A SPEED SENSOR REPLACED. A DAY LATER THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN AND I HAD TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED AGAIN. THE ABS LIGHT BEGAN TO COME ON AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER. NOW I HAVE A LIGHT ON THE PANEL (THE MASTER LIGHTING SWITCH). WHEN I TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS AND PARKING LIGHTS, THE PARKING LIGHTS COME BACK ON. I USED TO BE ABLE TO TURN THEM OFF AND SOMETIMES THEY WOULD STAY OFF, BUT NOW I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EVERY TIME I PARK AND RECONNECT IT TO DRIVE THE CAR. ALSO, ONE BY ONE, ALL OF THE POWER LOCKS ARE GOING OUT. THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS CORRECTLY IS THE ONE FOR THE REAR DOOR (TRUNK). THE REAR WINDOWS CAN OPEN, BUT SOMETIMES IT TAKES DAYS OF TRYING BEFORE I CAN GET THEM TO CLOSE AGAIN. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR ABS LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO FORD DEALER IN POCAHONTAS IOWA. WAS TOLD THEY CLEANED THE PARTS AND SHUT THE LIGHT OFF. WITHIN 2 WEEKS LIGHT CAME BACK ON. REQUIRED A $300.00 FIX. DEALER SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IT WILL PROBABLY END UP IN A RECALL. NO RECALL YET!! *TR
THE FRONT DRIVER-SIDE FLOOR MAT THAT WAS REPLACED BECAUSE OF RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 01V207000 IS STILL DEFECTIVE. THE RECALL REPLACEMENT IS ACTUALLY WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL. THE FRONT DRIVER-SIDE MAT CURLS IN THE UPPER-RIGHT AND INTERFERES WITH THE GAS PEDAL. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR AND THE FUSE #10 KEPT BLOWING AND THE A/C, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, ETC.. STOPPED WORKING. AFTER RESEARCHING ON INTERNET I FOUND THE CULPRIT WAS A LEAKY BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH, WHICH ONCE I DISCONNECTED IT THE FUSE STOPPED TRIPPING AND THE AC AND DASHBOARD WORKED. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAS LEAKED AND ALSO CORRODED AND STARTED TO MELT THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRES, WHICH HASN'T WORKED IN A WHILE, AND THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR A WHILE. THIS IS A KNOWN FIRE HAZARD BY FORD AND THERE IS NOT YET A RECALL THOUGH IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD TO REMOVE FUSES 101 AND 102 TO PREVENT A FIRE AND WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH AT MY OWN EXPENSE. *TR

ABS MODULE FAILED. THE REPAIR PART IS $800 AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. REVIEWING THE ISSUE THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO SEEM TO HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AND APPEARS TO BE ATTRIBUTED TO A POOR DESIGNED HEAT SINK ON THE ABS CONTROL MODULE CIRCUIT BOARD. *TR

ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING. SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. ABS LIGHT CONSTANTLY ON. VENTS (HOT\COLD) NOT WORKING. *TR
WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP IN MY 2000 WINDSTAR I ACCELERATED TO CROSS A BUSY HIGHWAY AND HEARD A LOUD CLUNK. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND LEFT ME TO DRIFT INTO CROSS TRAFFIC WHERE I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A MACK TRUCK. I SWERVED IN AN ALMOST U-TURN LIKE FASHION AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY NEXT TO THE ROAD I HAD ORIGINATED FROM. THIS IS THE THIRD TRANSMISSION TO FAIL IN THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST FAILED AT ABOUT 37,000 MILES. LUCKILY I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO THE DEALERSHIP FIXED IT BUT THEY MADE ME PRODUCE MY ORIGINAL CONTRACT TO PROVE I HAD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE SECOND TIME WAS ABOUT 15 MONTHS AGO, AFTER FORD'S REFUSAL TO HELP I TOOK IT TO AAMCO AND I PAID $2800 TO REPAIR. AFTER BEING REFERRED TO THIS WEBSITE I WAS ASTOUNDED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. I WAS ALMOST KILLED THIS MORNING, WHEN IS ENOUGH ENOUGH? *TR
