THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT BEGAN COMING ON INTERMITTANTLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. IT SEEMS THAT THE ABS ECU MODULE IS THE PROBLEM AS MULTIPLE ABS CODES WERE READ. NOW, TWO MONTHS LATER MY CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS. IF YOU DO THE RESEARCH ONLINE AS WELL AS IN YOUR COMPLAINT SECTION FOR 2001 WINSTAR IT IS AN ALL TOO COMMON PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT WAS NOT ADDRESSED PROPERLY ON AN EARLIER RECALL BY FORD (09S09) WHICH INCLUDED A SCDS WIRING HARNESS REPLACEMENT ONLY CAUSED BY BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ONTO WIRING AND CAUSING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. MANY OWNERS BELIEVE THE FLUID NOT ONLY RAN DOWN THE WIRING CONTINUING TO RUN ONTO THE ABS CONNECTOR CAUSING PARTS TO SHORT OUT AND FAIL AND ALSO ONTO THE CRUISE CONTROL CONNECTOR CAUSING IT TO FAIL. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS THE REASON ALL THESE ABS MODULES ARE FAILING...IT'S AMAZING HOW MANY COMPLAINTS WITH MY SAME PROBLEM ARE ON YOUR WEBSITE THESE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE PARTS TO REPLACE (OVER $1000) PLUS LABOR. THE ABSENCE OF THE ABS SYSTEM DOES CAUSE BRAKING PROBLEMS AND CAN CAUSE THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP AND SKID...THIS HAPPENED TO ME...JUST MISSED HAVING A WRECK! THE CONNECTOR TO THE CRUISE IS ALSO BEING EFFECTED CAUSING IT TO FAIL AS WELL. I THINK FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO AT LEAST CHECK THESE VEHICLE AND REPLACE THESE PARTS IF THEY ARE FOUND TO BE FAULTY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS IN AN ACCIDENT. THEY MAY HAVE ALREADY. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE BROKE WHILE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE BECAME INOPERATIVE AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE TOWARDS THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 130,000.
BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON DURING DRIVING, CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED. IT COULD BE RESET AT FIRST BY STOPPING, TURN OFF ENGINE THEN RESTART. AT FIRST, IT CAN GO FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. BUT LATELY IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN AND IGNITION OFF/ON TO RESET IS ONLY ABOUT 50% SUCCESSFUL. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND DOESN'T GO OFF. *TR
THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIGHT UP AND STAY LIT. THEY WILL ONLY GO OFF AFTER THE KEY IS TURNED OFF. IT TOOK SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THESE: PERFORM Q TEST ABS SYSTEM FOUND MULTIPLE DTC'S CMDTC C1185 ABS PWR RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FAILURE, C1194 LF OUTLET VALVE COIL CIRCUIT FAIL, C1198 LF INLET VALVE COIL CIRCUIT FAIL, C1210 RF OUTLET VALVE COIL CIRCUIT FAIL, C1246 RR OUTLET VALVE COIL CIRCUIT FAIL, C1250 LF INLET VALVE COIL CIRCUIT FAIL, C1254 RR INLET VALVE COIL CIRCUIT FAIL, C1446 BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUIT FAILURE OPEN OR SHORTED TO GROUND, U1262 SCP DATA LINK FAULT, FAIL SPEED DEACTIVATION SWITCH. *TR
ABS SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. HAD CHECKED OUT. OVER LAST 2 YEARS HAS CONTINUED AND NOW THE ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING AND BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEMS WITH ABS. MECHANIC SAYS FAULTY ABS SYSTEM AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AT ANY TIME. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE DEALER DID NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS EITHER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,855. THE RECALL FOR SUBFRAME WAS REPAIRED ONLY, HOWEVER DEALER REFUSED TO DO A STATE INSPECTION DUE TO OTHER DAMAGE. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR NEW TIRES BECAUSE ONE WAS GOING BALD FAST AND THEY FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SUB FRAME MOUNT WAS RUSTED AWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE NEAR THE SLIDING DOORS AND ROCKER PANELS. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS NOT PLACE TO SUPPORT THE UNIVERSAL JACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FRAME AND THE AREAS NEAR THE ROCKER PANELS WERE CORRODED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,686.
RIGHT FRONT (PASSENGER SIDE) SWAY BAR MOUNTING BRACKET SEPARATED FROM VEHICLE, AT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM REAR ATTACHING BRACKET, LESS THAN 30 DAYS AFTER RECALL ( NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V030000) WAS PERFORMED. THIS HAS RENDERED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IT WILL NOT PASS NEW YORK STATE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION. FORD DEALERSHIP DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND FORD, THE MANUFACTURER, WILL NOT REPAIR AS PART OF RECALL.
BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT CONTINUE TO COME ON. HAPPENS MORE IN THE WARMER MONTHS. SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG BECAUSE IT COME ON ALL THE TIME NOW. IF I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON, IT WILL GO OFF. SOMETIMES IT WILL STAY OFF AND SOMETIMES IT COMES BACK ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS IS NOT SAFE AND THAT THERE MAY BE SOME BIGGER ISSUE. THE LAST THING I WANT IS FOR MY VAN TO LOSE IT'S ABILITY TO BRAKE WITH MY FAMILY INSIDE. *TR
BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED. ABS DASH LIGHT AS WELL AS RED BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY . ALL SYSTEMS CHECKED, FLUID LEVELS AT PROPER HEIGHT, NO ABS CODES, REPLACED DRIVER SIDE SPEED SENSOR AS VISUAL INSPECTION REVEALED A CRACK IN THE HOUSING. ABS LIGHT REMAINS INTERMITTENT AND ABS ACTIVATES RANDOMLY, MAINLY AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 10MPH. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RECEIVING THE REPAIRS FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V030000 (COMPONENT: STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS) THE VEHICLE WAS VIBRATING, IT DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER WHEN PRESSING THE GAS AND IT WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE RECALLS REPAIRS WERE DONE UP TO CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 185,000. PM
ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON BRAKE LIGHT ON THE (MOSTLY UNSERVICEABLE) ECU MASTER RELAY HAS A BAD SOLDIER JOINT WHICH FAILS PREMATURELY AND CAUSES THE ABS LIGHT AND DTC C1185. IT ALSO CAUSES THE ENHANCED ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERABLE. *TR

THE FRONT SUBFRAME SUSPENSION MOUNT FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR VAN AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND THUS I LOSS STEERING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETELY LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND DRIFTED INTO THE OPPOSING LANE WITHOUT INTENT. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED DAMAGES WITHIN THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION MECHANISMS. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V030000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDERBODY SHIELDS). THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THE REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,524.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWAY ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SHOULDER WHERE IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE REAR AXLE LOWER BRACKET ARM, WHICH WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V030000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS) AND THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY) AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING AND A CRACKING SOUND IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO TURN ON ITS OWN FORCEFULLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

MY DRIVERS SIDE BACK DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE AND MY PASSENGER SIDE BACK DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. MY (ABS) LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF. THERE IS A CRACKING NOISE UNDER WHERE MY FRONT TIRES ARE ON BOTH SIDES. *TR

THE DEALER SPRAYED THE VEHICLE WITH AN ANTIRUST AGENT BUT THE REMEDY DID NOT WORK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS INADEQUATE AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HEARD A POPPING SOUND 2 TIMES AM I SAFE IN MY VEHICLE, I DID BUY IT USED. I LOOKED AT THE SIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL AND IT WAS MADE IN CANADA, DO I HAVE SOMETHING TO FEAR??? *TR

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HER THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR EITHER FAILURE ON HER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC OR THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE LATELY. CAR WOULD NOT START, POWER STEERING WENT OUT, OIL LIGHT STAYS ON, I HAVE TO PUT OIL IN EVERY WEEK, SEAT MOTOR STOP WORKING AND NOW THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK. WE WERE DRIVING OUT OF TOWN WITH OUR 3 KIDS AND I WENT TO PRESS THE BRAKES JUST TO FIND THAT IT WAS NOT THERE - IT WAS ALL THE WAY UP UNDER THE DASH BOARD!!!
I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING HOME THE OTHER DAY I TURNED THE CORNER AND HEARD A LOUD "POP", LOST ALL STEERING AND COULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER CAME AND LIFTER THE VAN UP AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH HE TOLD ME THE NEWS WAS NOT GOOD. HE SHOWED ME WHERE THE FRAME HAD BROKEN AND WHERE THE "ARM" WAS SUPPOSE TO BE WELDED TO. HE SHOWED ME THE"ARM/BAR" BEHIND THE RIGHT TIRE. THANKFULLY I DID NOT HIT ANYONE AND NO ONE HIT ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE POLICE DID COME BECAUSE I WAS A SAFETY HAZARD SITTING IN THE LANE THE CARS WERE TRYING TO DRIVE IN. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR I SURELY WOULD HAVE FLIPPED OR CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AS EVENTHOUGH IT HAPPENED WHILE SLOWLY TURNING A CORNER I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKED CAUSING MY TIRES TO SQUEAL AND SMOKE AND THE WHOLE VAN TO SWERVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I SAT SHAKING IN MY VAN FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ MY COMPLAINT AND CONSIDER ADDING IT TO THE LIST OF RECALLS. I DO NOT KNOW HOW I AM GOING TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. AS A SINGLE MOTHER OF THREE CHILDREN MY MONEY IS VERY TIGHT AND THIS IS NOT SOMETHING INSURANCE COVERS. WHEN I TOLD THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER IT WAS A 2001 VEHICLE HE WAS VERY SURPRISED TO SEE THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE DO SOMETHING AND VERY QUICKLY TO CORRECT THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL PROBLEM. *TR
THE "ABS" AND "BRAKE" LIGHTS COME ON. SOMETIMES SEEM TO BE TRIGGERED BY A BUMP. WORSE IN WARM WEATHER OR WET CONDITIONS. *TR
THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY HEAT IN THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) ECM (ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE) (2C219) MODULE CAUSING EXPANSION OF A LARGE ALUMINUM PLATE (HEAT SINK) IN THE ECM WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE ECM MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD AT ALL POINTS. THE EXPANSION OCCURS WHEN THE UNIT GETS WARM ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER MONTHS AND CAUSES INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE UNIT BECAUSE THE FRAGILE BOARD IS BEING STRETCHED AND MALFORMED. THE CODE MOST COMMONLY SCANNED BY PROFESSIONAL MECHANICS IS CODE C1185. SEEN BY US OWNERS AS A YELLOW ABS BRAKE LIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL POP NOISE AND IMMEDIATELY, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, ESPECIALLY WHEN ATTEMPTING A TURN. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE FRONT SUB FRAME WAS CORRODED AND CRACKED NEAR THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED AND RULED THE VEHICLE AS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V030000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDER-BODY SHIELDS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
JUST BOUGHT 2001 FORD WINDSTAR AND IN COUPLE DAYS THE ABS LIGHT AND BREAK LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO SHOP COME UP WITH CODE: C1185. LIGHTS WILL GOES OFF WHEN TURN IGNITION OFF AND RESTART. BUT AFTER DRIVING FOR A BIT LIGHTS COME BACK ON. DON'T KNOW WHAT'S REALLY HAPPEN. *TR

THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS COVERED WITH RUST. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NUMBER: 11V030000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS) AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. UPDATED 05/26/11 *BF THE DEALER PLACED TWO BRACKETS ON THE FRONT FRAME. HOWEVER, THEY STATED THE REPAIR CAN FAIL AT ANYTIME. UPDATED 05/31/11
TOOK 2001 WINDSTAR INTO DEALER FOR RECALL ON REAR AXLE JAN. 2011 WAS CALLED TO PICK UP VEHICLE ON APRIL 29TH. WHEN VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP THE BRAKE, ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT WERE LIGHTING UP THE DASHBOARD , THESE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON WHEN VAN WAS TAKEN IN. WALKED BACK INTO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEY HAD NO ONE AVAILABLE TO LOOK AT IT BUT BRING IT BACK ON MONDAY WHEN THEY COULD RUN AN ANALYSIS ON IT. STATED THEY HAD REPLACED THE AXLE AND ANY NUMBER OF THINGS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. ASKED IF VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WAS TOLD IT WAS. CAME BACK MONDAY MORNING HAD A TOTAL CHANGE OF ATTITUDE WITHOUT LOOKING AT VEHICLE WAS TOLD IT PROBABLY WAS NOT ANYTHING THEY DID BUT WOULD LOOK AT IT AND LET ME KNOW IN 10 MINUTES. HALF HOUR LATER INFORMED THEY THINK IT WAS THE MAIN BRAIN AND COULD COST ME UP TO $1500.00 TO FIX. DEALER STATED THAT THE WINDSTAR HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS HE STILL HAD OVER 100 TO REPAIR IN HIS LOT. WAS TOLD BY DEALER AND FORD CUSTOMER CARE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS MINE NOT THEIRS, REPLACING REAR AXLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BRAKES BUT WORK SHEET SHOWS THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS. NOW I DO NOT HAVE ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL ON MY VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT NOTICED CORROSION IN THE ENGINE CRADLE AND SWAY BAR MOUNTING AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WHILE IDLING AT RED LIGHT THE REAR QUARTER PANEL WINDOW ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR EXPLODED. NOTHING STRUCK THE GLASS FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO TRIGGER THE EXPLOSION. GLASS FLEW INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE COVERING THE REAR SEAT WHERE MY CHILDREN ARE NORMALLY SITTING. FORTUNATELY I HAD NOT YET PICKED THEM UP FROM SCHOOL. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR THREE YEARS AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE WERE NO CRACKS OR OTHER DAMAGE TO THE WINDOW PRIOR TO THE EXPLOSION. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FRAME WAS UNSTABLE AND HE COULD EASILY SHIFT IT USING HIS HANDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 167,000.
MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR ABS EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE AND OVER DRIVE ,SPEEDOMETER , VAN CAUGHT A MINOR FIRE , HAD THE ABS MODULE CHANGED WHEN IT HAD WARRANTY STILL HAD PROBLEMS REPORTED IT TO FORD TWO YEARS AGO BEFORE THE RECALL FIXED AGAIN OUT OF POCKET. THIS TIME NEED TO TAKE ACTION. *TR
GOOD DAY. I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR PASSENGER VAN. ON THE BOTTOM OF THE MASTER CYLINDER, THERE IS SOME KIND OF PRESSURE SWITCH. THIS SWITCH CONSTANTLY LEAKS BRAKE FLUID ONTO A WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR BELOW IT. MY RESEARCH HAS FOUND THAT MANY WINDSTARS OF THIS ERA ALSO LEAK BRAKE FLUID FROM THIS SWITCH. MY BRAKE LIGHTS (ON THE REAR OF THE CAR) SOMETIMES STAY ON WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. ALSO, SINCE THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL WAS REPAIRED, THE DASHBOARD LIGHT INDICATOR TELLING ME THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON NO LONGER OPERATES. ALSO, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT WORK UNLESS I PUMP THE BRAKES PRIOR TO USING IT. I BELIEVE ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE RELATED. THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME HE WOULD GLADLY FIX THE PROBLEMS BUT WILL CHARGE ME QUITE A LOT OF MONEY TO DO IT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,023. THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL PART WAS NOT REPLACED IN FRONT OR REAR SUBFRAME. A BRACKET WAS PUT IN FRONT OF SUB FRAME JUST IN CASE IT BREAKS. MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR WAS REPAIRED AT VALLEY FORD IN VALLEY VIEW OHIO ON 4/14/2011 UNDER RECALL #20287. I HAD THE VAN IN FOR AN UNRELATED MATTER ON 12/07/2011 AT THAT TIME I WAS INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE SUB-FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH. AFTER CONTACTING FORD'S NATIONAL SERVICE CENTER I TOOK THE VAN TO VALLEY FORD. THEY INSPECTED IT AND CONFIRMED THAT THE SUB-FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH. THEY FORWARDED THEIR FINDING TO FORD MOTOR CO. AND FORD MOTOR CO. WAS NOT WILLING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH THE SUB-FRAME. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED UNDER THE INITIAL RECALL. SINCE AT LEAST APRIL OF 2011 ANY TIME MY CHILDREN, MYSELF, OR ANYONE ELSE RODE IN THE VEHICLE IT WAS SUBJECT TO A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE SUB-FRAME WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURY TO THE OCCUPANTS OR OTHERS. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR THAT WAS SERVICED FOR THE SAFETY RECALL 11S16,(11V030000 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER) 04/11/2011. MY VEHICLE WAS GROUNDED DO TO SIGNIFICANT SUBFRAME ROT BUT IT WAS DEEMED REPAIRABLE BY FORD. ON FEBRUARY 2, 2013 I NOTICED A 2 INCH LONG CRACK/PERFORATION ON THE TOP PART OF THE SUB-FRAME WHERE THE REPAIR BRACKET WAS ATTACHED WHEN I WAS ROTATING THE TIRES. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO HELP BECAUSE IT WAS REPAIRED ONCE AND THEY WONT PAY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AGAIN. IM NOT SURE IF THEY MISSED THIS THE FIRST TIME IT WAS FIXED OR WHAT. I DO KNOW THAT ACCORDING TO FORD'S SPECS FOR DETERMINING IF A SUBFRAME IS REPAIRABLE OR NOT THIS CRACK WOULD DEEM IN NON-REPAIRABLE BECAUSE ITS WITHIN THE 2 INCH MARK FROM THE TOOLING HOLE. NOW IM JUST WAITING FOR THE SUBFRAME TO COMPLETELY CRACK WHILE IM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE REPAIR BRACKET THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH WILL NOT HOLD THE SUBFRAME TOGETHER IF IT COMPLETELY CRACKS AT THE SPOT AT WHICH ITS LOCATED IN. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT DUE TO DOWNWARD FORCE ON THE SUBFRAME BODY MOUNT AND THE FACT WHERE THE U SHAPED BRACKET IS SITTING ON THE SUBFRAME THAT HOLDS THE BRACKET ON THE SUBFRAME, IT IS ACTING LIKE A FULCRUM POINT WHERE THE SUBFRAME IS BENDING AND CRACKING. *TR
THE BRAKE FLUID AT THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING ON THE WIRES UNDER IT. CAUSING THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT TO STAY ON. I AM AFRAID THIS WILL CAUSE A FIRE, DUE TO THE FLUID BEING FLAMMABLE. I WAS DRIVING MY VAN DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT THIRTY FIVE. HEARD A LOUD THUNK AND REALIZED I WAS NOT ACCELERATING ANYMORE. THE VAN STOPPED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER. CALLED A TOW TRUCK BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER EVALUATING THE DAMAGE WE REALIZED THAT THE FRAME HAD BROKEN WHERE THE WHEEL STABILIZER ARM MOUNTS TO THE FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ALSO MY PASSENGER DRIVE SHAFT PULLED OUT FROM THE TRANSMISSION. SO IN THIS REPAIR IT IS GOING TO TAKE A SUB FRAME. AND THE HALF SHAFTS FROM TRANSMISSION TO WHEEL.
