I WAS PULLING MY VAN INTO A PARKING SPOT AT MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THERE WAS A LOUD "BOOM" SOUND. THE VAN FELT LIKE IT DROPPED DOWN CLOSER TO THE CEMENT. I NOTICED THE BRAKE FAULT LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. I GOT OUT OF VAN AND BOTH OF THE REAR WHEELS WERE POINTED IN AT THE TOP OF THE TIRE. THE REAR AXLE HAD BROKE COMPLETELY IN TWO RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. THANK GOD MY TWELVE YEAR OLD WASN'T WITH ME AND WE WEREN'T GOING 55 MPH DOWN THE ROAD. I'VE LOOKED THIS UP ON-LINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH FORD WINDSTAR'S. I QUESTION WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY PUBLICATIONS ON THIS PROBLEM. THIS WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS OR CATASTROPHIC INJURY. *TR
A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR (MAY 2008) THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON, INTERMITTENTLY, EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. IT WOULD COME ON WHEN I WENT AROUND A SHARP CURVE OR HIT A POTHOLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS, WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON (NO ERROR CODES) AND WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE ON (EVERY ABS ERROR CODE CAME UP). I WAS TOLD BY ALL 3 MECHANICS THAT THE ABS SENSOR BOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS GOING TO COST OVER $300 PLUS LABOR TO REPAIR. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS OK TO DRIVE BUT THAT WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON MY ABS WAS NOT WORKING AND THAT I SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN OR WHEN ROAD CONDITIONS WERE SLICK BECAUSE I WOULD NEED EXTRA TIME TO PREPARE FOR A FULL STOP. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE MANY OTHERS WHO WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE TRIED MANY DIFFERENT FIXES WITH NO RESOLUTION, INCLUDING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS SENSOR BOARD. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO ENSURE THAT MY ABS BRAKES WILL WORK CORRECTLY? *TR
ABS FAILURE AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NOT WORKING. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING, AND NOTICED INTERMITTENT ABS/BRAKE LIGHT. AFTER RESEARCHING, FOUND THAT THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID THROUGH THE CONNECTOR. FLUID HAD WICKED INTO THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE AS WELL. EVEN THOUGH THIS SWITCH IS THE SUBJECT OF FAILURES AND RECALLS ON NUMEROUS MODELS, THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE OR APPLY THE COMPANY DESIGNED FIX TO THE VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS LED TO NUMEROUS VEHICLE FIRES, AND THAT THE COMPANY IS NOT RESPONDING TO THIS ISSUE BY REPLACING THE SWITCH, BUT ONLY INSTALLING A FUSE. REPAIR CHARGES WERE $210.00. *TR
ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT ON/ OFF MORE THEN 5 YEARS EVERY TIME DRIVING , BRAKE WORKING FINE. ALL THE GAUGE MOVING CRAZY ABOUT 1 A WEEK. WINTER TIME THE PROBLEM LESS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT NOTICED A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WOULD ADD FLUID ONE WEEK, AND THE FOLLOWING WEEK, IT WOULD ALMOST BE EMPTY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND ACCESSORIES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
2001 FORD WINDSTAR 70,000 MILES, HAD A MINOR FENDER BENDER TOOK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, ONCE I RECEIVED THE VAN BACK AN HOUR AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CALLED DEALER THEY STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO RESET THE CODES BRING IT BACK WHEN I COULD. THE VERY NEXT DAY AND EVERY DAY AFTER THAT UNTIL THE FINAL DAY I CALLED STATING THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED ODD AND I HAD TO SLIGHTLY TURN IT TO THE LEFT TO GO STRAIGHT. I AGAIN WAS TOLD THAT THEY JUST NEEDED TO REALIGN THE STEERING WHEEL BUT NOT TO WORRY. ON THE FIFTH DAY I CALLED AND SAID I WASN'T SURE THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE WHEEL NOW HAD TO BE TURNED HALF WAY TO THE LEFT TO GO STRAIGHT. AGAIN I WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY JUST BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY. 3 MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND WOULDN'T MOVE. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND IT TURNS OUT THE CONTROL ARM THAT WAS JUST REPLACED FELL OFF!! THE DEALER INFORMED ME IT WAS NOT THEIR FAULT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE FRAME WAS ROTTED OUT, SOMETHING THEY CLAIM TO HAVE NEVER SEEN. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH FORD AND THE DEALER SO FAR I HAVE GOTTEN NO WHERE. SO I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THIS SITE WHICH INFORMED ME THAT THERE ARE ALMOST 15 CASES OF THE SAME THING REPORTED! WHY DOES FORD THINK THIS IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND ARE THEY WAITING FOR A FATAL ACCIDENT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS? *TR
ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON. HAD IT IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES SINCE APRIL 2008 MOST RECENT WAS OCT 15,2008. LIGHT WAS COMING AS SOON AS BRAKES WERE APPLIED AFTER STARTING ENGINE. SENSORS HAVE BEEN CLEANED. NEW BRAKES PUT ON AND SOME PARTS REPLACED. *TR

THE ABS, BRAKE, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON AND WHENEVER IT IS WARM OUT AND THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL DO NOT WORK! THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE EFFECTING STOPPING AND STEERING CONTROL AND SHOULD BE A FORD SAFETY RECALL. A FAULTY COMPUTER BOARD EXPANDS AND CONTRACTS CAUSING MALFUNCTIONS IN THE SYSTEM. *TR
CAR PRODUCED A STONG SULFER SMELL AND IMMEDIATELY THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE "O/D OFF" LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING, THE SPEEDOMETER DIED AND THE ODOMETER CLEARED. *TR
BRAKE LIGHT & ABS LIGHT COME ON AND STAYS ON EVEN AFTER LATEST RECALL WAS DONE ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND IS RELATED TO THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT. THE RECALL (09S09) DIDN'T GO FAR ENOUGH. THESE VEHICLES CONTINUE TO BE A HAZARD FOR THE OWNERS & OTHER MOTORISTS. 2001 FORD WINDSTAR - RECURRING ABS & E-BRAKE LIGHTS ON WHILE DRIVING IN 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND STAY ON UNTIL VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING, LIGHTS WILL COME ON AGAIN ONCE DRIVING HAS STARTED. MECHANIC UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. POSSIBLE FIRE DAMAGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANGING SOUND ALONG WITH A BURNING SMELL. THE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER, BUT SHE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY VERIFIED THAT THE AXLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CONTACT IS WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. SHE HAS PICTURES OF THE FAILED COMPONENT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 70,000. UPDATED 6/16/08 *CN UPDATED
I HAVE A 2001 WINDSTAR, PURCHASED AT FINES FORD BOLTON ON, FOR THE PAST YEAR THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT TEND TO BE ACTIVATED AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP ( 5 MIN) DURING THE SUMMER. HOWEVER DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO DISAPPEAR. THE COLDER THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE THE LESS LIKELY THE LIGHT SEEM TO GO ON. THE VAN HAS ONLY 95 000 KM , AND DRIVES APPROXIMATELY 10-15 KM ON A DAILY TOTAL COMMUTE. DURING THE PAST YEAR WE ( MY WIFE AND I) HAVE NOTICED THAT A BURNING SMELL SEEMS TO EMANATE FROM THE VAN IMMEDIATELY WHEN PARKED. SINCE WE PARK THE VAN IN A GARAGE THE SMELL IS MORE NOTICEABLE THEN. THIS PAST JULY WE BROUGHT THE VAN IN TO SERVICE THE RECALL TO FIX THE SCDS SENSOR. ALTHOUGH FOR A WEEK THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT ACTIVATED, THE PROBLEM HAS RESURFACED THEREAFTER. IT SEEMS THIS RECALL ONLY SERVED TO POSSIBLY PROTECT A FIRE BUT NOT SOLVE THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE ABS LIGHTS. *TR
THERE WAS NO CRASH OR INJURY, I WAS JUST WANTING TO KNOW IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PAINT ON A 2001 WINDSTAR. I JUST BOUGHT ONE AND DID NOT REALIZE THE ROOF PAINT IS PEELING. I CALLED THE DEALER AND I GUESS I AM SCREWED. *TR
PERIODIC ILLUMINATION OF THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE ABS AND THE BRAKES, ESPECIALLY DURING SUMMER MONTHS, BUT DOWN HERE IN THE SOUTH, ALSO DURING WARMER WINTER DAYS. ACCORDING TO THE FORD MANUAL, THIS INDICATES A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. IN LOOKING FURTHER, I FOUND THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING INTO THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THE WIRES ARE WET WITH FLUID, LEADING ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. THE APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE IS THE FIRST OCCURANCE, BUT I HAVE HAD THE LIGHTS COME ON EVER SINCE BUYING THE VAN, USED, IN THE SPRING OF LAST YEAR. *TR
MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR DEVELOPED A BRAKE FLUID LEAK FROM THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MOUNTED ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. THIS APPEARS TO HAVE CAUSED THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER TO STOP WORKING. I PLAN TO MAKE REPAIRS TONIGHT, BUT I NOTICED THAT MANY OTHER FORD PRODUCTS ARE UNDER A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND I WANTED TO INCLUDE THE INFORMATION THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ON MY WINDSTAR. IT APPEARS TO BE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ACTIVATE AGAIN. THE VEHCILE WAS DRIVING 65 MPH AT THE TIME. WHEN SHE USED THE CONTROLS ON STEERING WHEEL, SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN. OTHERWISE, UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT POWER UP AGAIN. A MECHANIC NFORMED HER THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ISSUE; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT ONE DID NOT EXIST. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF SWITCH ON THE MASTER CYLINDER THAT COULD CATCH FIRE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,636 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

2001 FORD WINDSTAR ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON FOR NO REASON. MIGHT COME ON WHEN HITTING BUMPS AND MIGHT NOT. I HAVE HAD MECHANIC LOOK AT ISSUE. MANY FAILURES REPORT. ENDED UP BRAKE RELAY/CONTROL MODULE IS BAD AND NEEDS REPLACED. APPROX. FIX $1200 WHICH EXPLAINS WHY FORD WON'T ADMIT ISSUE.. MY NIECE HAD SAME VAN SAME ISSUE INSTEAD OF DEALING WITH IT SHE TRADED VAN IN. LIGHTS DON'T STAY ON ALL THE TIME BUT BOTH COME ON AT SAME TIME AND GO OFF AT SAME TIME. MECHANIC SAID BRAKES WILL WORK BUT NO ABS AVAILABLE WHEN LIGHT IS ON. I WOULD THINK FORD WOULD RECOGNIZE THIS AS SAFETY ISSUE. PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR APPROX. 2 YEARS OR MORE ON THIS VAN. WE HAVE OWNED FOR APPROX. 6-7 YEARS. *TR
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
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE CONTACT FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE HAD A FLAT TIRE. WHEN HE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER, THE FRONT END DROPPED AND HE HEARD THE FAN STRIKING THE METAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM MOUNT RUSTED FROM THE SUBFRAME AND THE ENGINE CRADLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE CRADLE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER REPAIR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44,139. UPDATED 04/21/08 *BF

THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON. SINCE THEN THEY ARE OFF AT TIMES, BUT MOSTLY ON. USUALLY WHEN THE CAR STARTS UP THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE OFF, BUT COME ON AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP. *TR

FORD WINDSTAR 2001 BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT COME ON AFTER A SHORT DISTANCE OF DRIVING AND REMAIN ON. CHECKED WITH MECHANIC WHO SAID IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD WINDSTARS. THIS CAUSES ME GREAT CONCERN BECAUSE IT MEANS BRAKING DISTANCES ARE INCREASED IN AN EMERGENCY BRAKING OR SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. *TR
FUEL FILLER VENT IS CLOGGED, RESULTING IN FUEL OVERFLOWING WHEN FILLING WITH GASOLINE. IT CAN TAKE UP TO 30 MINUTES TO FILL THE TANK. *TR
"CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT STAYS ON. WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER SAID JUST GO TO FORD AND GET IT "RESET." THAT WASN'T DONE. NOW IT IS TIME FOR THE FIRST MANDATORY SMOG AND THE VEHICLE WON'T PASS BECAUSE OF THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT PROBLEM. FORD WANTS $500 TO "FIX" IT. I DON'T HAVE AN EXTRA $500. I FEEL I AM GETTING RIPPED!!!! SUGGESTIONS FROM ANYONE? *TR
VEHICLE MAKES A GRINDING NOISE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. WHILE TURNING AS WELL AS A HISSING NOISE/CLICKING NOISE. ALSO MY ABS LIGHT AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ARE ALWAYS ON AND THEY NEVER TURN OFF. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY STREET I HEARD A NOISE, IT SOUNDED LIKE MY TIRES WERE RUBBING AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL OF MY CAR, I PULLED OVER AND NOTICED MY TIRES WERE LEANING INWARDS, I LOOKED UNDER MY VAN AND NOTICED THAT THE AXEL WAS HANGING DOWN AND BROKEN ALMOST IN HALF. I CALLED FORD COMPANY THEY SAID THE VAN WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR (1,000.00- 1500.00) I DON'T FEEL THIS IS A "NORMAL" WEAR AND TEAR TO THIS CAR , THE MANAGER AT THE DEALER SHIP SAID THIS IS THE 3RD ONE HE HAS SEEN WITHIN THIS YEAR ON THE SAME VAN. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. *TR
AROUND MARCH OF 2008 THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHT STARTED COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY THEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THEY CAME ON PERMANENTLY AND HAVE NOT GONE OUT. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES DO NOT WORK ANY MORE. A FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEMS AS BEING A BAD ABS CONTROL MODULE AND A LEAKING SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. SYMPTOMS ARE AS FOLLOWS. REAR AXLE OF MY 2001 WINDSTAR CRACKED AND SPLIT IN HALF WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. NO WARNING SIGNS. ONLY 67,000 MILES ON WELL-MAINTAINED VEHICLE. *TR
THE YELLOW ABS LIGHT AND THE RED BRAKE LIGHT COME ON AT SAME TIME AND STAY ON TILL VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR AND THE ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND DISABLING THE ABS SYSTEM AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS? *TR
IN OUR FORD WINDSTAR OUR ABS SYSTEM HAS COMPLETELY GONE OUT AND THE FORD PLACE TOLD US THAT WAS GOING TO CAUSE US ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THEN OUR ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON, EVERYDAY. THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AND THEN OFF. THE CHECK FUEL CAP CAME ON AND THEN WENT OFF. THE RPM'S ALMOST HIT ZERO WHEN THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON. THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY KEEP EXTRA ABS PARTS BECAUSE WINDSTARS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. *TR
THIS EVEN HAS HAPPENED MANY A TIMES, SINCE '07 WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMS TO GET STUCK/OR DOESN'T RELEASE ALL THE WAY. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD IT HAD NEW BRAKES; BUT NOW I NEED BRAKES.. IN THE BEGINNING I HAD REPAIRS DONE TO IT BECAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT TURN ON... THE CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE HAS STARTED AGAIN, AND I FEEL IT IS BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS STICKING. I CAN PUT MY FOOT UNDER IT AND RAISE IT AND MOST TIMES THIS IS THE REMEDY FOR THE SITUATION. THIS BRAKE PEDAL FAULT HAS NOW LEAD ME TO BUY A PORTABLE POWER SUPPLY AKA PORTABLE JUMPER CABLES, BECAUSE OF THIS HAPPENING AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS STAYING PUSHED IN FAR ENOUGH THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON AND DRAIN THE BATTERY DEAD... WHICH HAS HAPPENED MORE THEN 10 TIMES.. I WAS AT AN EVENT LAST NIGHT WHEN I STATED I HAD TO GO MAKE SURE THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD NOT CAME BACK DOWN AND PUT THE REAR LIGHTS BACK ON; ON MY VEHICLE; WHEN THE YOUNG MAN I AS SPEAKING TO, STATED "OUR CAR DOES THE SAME THING".. I THEN ASKED WHAT KIND IS IT, THE RESULT IS WE BOTH DRIVE FORD WINDSTAR '01 VEHICLES.. I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE NOT ONLY TWO CASES OF THE MALFUNCTION... AND YET I DO NOT FIND HERE IN THE RECALL LIST. IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAS TO FIND OUT OR IF THERE IS AN RECALL FOR THE FUNCTION PLEASE INFORM ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH, THE VEHICLE DROPPED AND CAME TO A STOP. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BOTH REAR WHEELS WERE FOLDED INWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE SNAPPED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART. THE PART WAS NOT RUSTED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE REAR AXLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,200. UPDATED 07/15/08 *BF UPDATED 07/15/08

INTERMITTENT ILLUMINATION OF AMBER ABS WARNING LAMP AND RED BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LAMP DURING DRIVING - NO UNDERLYING BRAKE SYSTEM MALFUNCTION; ALSO, ABS AND BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LAMPS OCCASIONALLY REMAIN ON AFTER START-UP WARNING SYSTEM CHECK CYCLE . ERRONEOUS MALFUNCTION WARNINGS CONSUME OWNER TIME AND FUNDS TO HAVE DIAGNOSED, WITH NO ACTUAL BRAKE MALFUNCTION PRESENT. LIKELY "BOY WHO CRIED WOLF" SCENARIO, IN WHICH OWNERS CONDITIONED TO IGNORE FALSE WARNINGS WILL DISREGARD WHEN TRUE WARNING OF ACTUAL DEFECT OCCURS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SWERVED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR HOUSING WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,413 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,380.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER, BUT THE TIRE WAS UNABLE TO BE CHANGED DUE TO BROKEN PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COIL SPRING FAILED AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO BLOW OUT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 136,000.
I OWN TWO FORD WINDSTAR LX'S, ONE A 2001 AND THE OTHER 2003. BOTH HAVE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS THAT COME ON TOGETHER. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN COLDER WEATHER. IN WARMER WEATHER, IT HAPPENS AS SOON AS THE VAN IS WARMED UP. *TR
CEL CAME ON AND SUBSEQUENT DIAG CODE REVEALED P0171/P0174/P0131 CODES AS DOES EVERYONE ELSE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. REPLACED ISOLATOR BOLTS, PORT SEALS, CLAMSHELL SEAL, 2 OTHER SEALS, AND FRONT VALVE COVER, PCV VALVE AND VAC LINE, AND FUEL REG VAC LINE. FIRST 2 CODES CLEARED, BUT MISFIRE REMAINED. REMOVED INTAKE 2X AND CLEANED ALL SEALS, EGR PORTS, AND OIL ACCUMULATION FROM INSIDE INTAKE. P0131 CODE REMAINS. NEXT STEP IS NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES (ONLY 10,000 MILES ON NEW PLATINUM PLUGS). ALSO HAVE INTERMITTENT ABS/BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS COME ON AS THEY WISH AND GO OFF WHEN VEHICLE TURNED OFF. WHEN IS FORD GOING TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS ENTIRE VEHICLE ? I WILL NOT TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET RIPPED OFF FOR OVER $600 WHEN IT COSTS ME $120 IN PARTS ALONE TO REPLACE THE TSB SEALS AND INTAKE BOLTS. I GUESS WE SHALL SEE HOW LONG UNTIL MY TRANSMISSION GOES OUT (KNOCK ON WOOD I MADE OVER 80,000 MILES SO FAR). *TR
BOTH ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND STAY ON UNTIL ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. HAS OCCURRED WHEN STARTING ENGINE, OR WHILE DRIVING. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, 15AMP FUSE #10 HAS BLOWN OUT, CAUSING INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES (SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER) TO TURN OFF. REPLACING FUSE HAS NOT STOPPED PROBLEMS FROM OCCURRING. RUNNING DIAGNOSTIC TOOL ON ABS MODULE DISPLAYED CODES C1185, C1194, C1210, C1214, C1242, C1246, C1250, AND C1254. OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THAT IDENTICAL PROBLEM RESULTED IN ENGINE FIRES. *TR
ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 15, 2007 MY HUSBAND NOTICED WHEN HE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE REAR END OF OUR 2001 FORD WINDSTAR LX FELT LOOSE. WE THOUGHT THE SHOCKS WERE STARTING TO WARE. ON DECEMBER 20, 2007 MY HUSBAND STARTED ON HIS WAY HOME FROM WORK AROUND 3:30 PM HE HEADED SOUTH ON I55 OUT OF CHICAGO AND REACHED OUR DRIVEWAY IN THE SOUTHWEST SUBURBS APPROXIMATELY 5:00 PM. AT 5:30 P. OUR FAMILY WITH TWO CHILDREN GOT INTO THE VAN TO GO CHRISTMAS SHOPPING. AS WE WERE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE VAN JERKED AND SCREECHED. WE THOUGHT WE HIT SOMEONE THAT HAD PARKED BEHIND US. WE JUMPED OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND NOTICED OUR REAR TIRES LOOKED FUNNY AND THE BACK END WAS REALLY LOW. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER IT WE SAW THAT THE AXLE WAS BROKEN IN TWO. IT HAD JUST SNAPPED. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED A HALF HOUR EARLIER THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND I HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED, OR 15 MINUTES LATER WHEN WE WERE ON I355 GOING CHRISTMAS SHOPPING WITH OUR CHILDREN. WE WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN IN OUR DRIVEWAY BUT THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE AND WE DON'T HAVE THE 1000.00 IT WILL COST TO REPLACE THE PART. THE VAN IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, IT HAS 72,915 MILES ON IT. HOW INCONVENIENT! *TR
ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON FORD WINDSTAR 2001 , BRAKE SYSTEM HAS BEEN CHECKED AND THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON FOR THE ALARM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR EVER AFTER BEING CHECKED AND PAID REPAIRS , INTAKE SYSTEM REPLACED, HOSES REPLACED ETC. *TR
