BRAKES ON 2003 WINDSTAR NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. AFTER CHANGING BRAKES AND BLEEDING LINES, ABS AND BRAKE LINE WOULD COME ON DURING DRIVING INTERMITTENTLY AND REMAIN ON. BRAKE PEDAL WOULD EITHER BE AT ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OR HAVE VERY LITTLE PEDAL (ALMOST TO FLOOR. CHANGED MASTER CYLINDER, REBLED THE LINES. STILL HAVING INTERMITTENT ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON (USUALLY ONCE A DAY AND CONTINUING TO REMAIN ON) CAR HAS ACCEPTABLE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON. HAVE HAD CAR PUT ON AND SCANNED BY COMPUTER 3 TIMES...NO FAULTS SHOW. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN AS THE BRAKES HAVE REMAINED FINE FOR STOPPING, BUT WILL IT CONTINUE OR WILL I FIND MYSELF WITH SERIOUS ISSUES IN THE FUTURE??? *TR
I HAVE A FORD 2003 WINDSTAR, 83,000 MILES , MY CAR'S REAR AXEL BEAM BROKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, IT COST ME TO REPAIR IT $497 FOR THE PART AND $275 FOR LABOR. *TR
MY ABS LIGHT KEEPS ILLUMINATING. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR. I HAD THE FIX FOR THE RECALL OF THE SPEED CONTROL THAT FROM WHAT I AM READING COULD BE CAUSING THE ISSUE WITH THE ABS LIGHTS DUE TO FLUID LEAKING. 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. *TR
THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. THIS JUST STARTED IN OUR 2003 WINDSTAR WITH 60000 MILES ON IT. THIS HAPPENS FROM ONCE EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE VAN TO ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE WARNING LIGHT RE-ILLUMINATED WITHIN ONE WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 81,286.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE MODULE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED EVERYDAY DUE TO A SLOW LEAK WHICH HAD TO BE REFILLED WITH BRAKE FLUID. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND ABS WARNING LIGHT ARE FREQUENTLY ON, EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES ARE MECHANICALLY IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. I AM THINKING THAT THE ABS CONTROLLER'S CIRCUIT BOARD HAS A COLD SOLDER CONNECTION. *TR
BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED. THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED. THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE UNIT WAS REPLACED AND THE REPLACED UNIT FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 88,000 MILES. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS CONTROL UNIT.
BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED. ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY FUNCTIONAL. DEFECTIVE ABS ECM. WELL KNOWN ISSUE PER THE FORD DEALER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE ABS BECOMES NON-FUNCTIONING. THIS HAPPENS 90+% OF THE TIMES THAT THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT RELATIVE LOW SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE REAR SUSPENSION BROKE CAUSING THE WHEELS TO COLLAPSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HIS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THE DEALERS ADVICE AND OFFERED TO DISCOUNT THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 113,000.
2003 FORD WINDSTAR DRIVING ON HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 65MPH. LOUD BANG AND IMMEDIATELY CAR STARTED TO SWAY AND PULL TO THE SIDE. HAD TROUBLE MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER. HAD AXLE REPAIRED (WELDED) - COULDN'T AFFORD NEW AXLE (~$1000). *TR
REAR AXLE SNAPPED AND BROKE APART. *TR
VEHICLE READIED FOR EXTENDED ROAD TRIP -- ALL FLUID LEVELS CHECKED, MOTOR OIL CHANGED, TIRE PRESSURE, ETC. NORMAL DRIVING DOES NOT REVEAL FAILURE. THE FAILURE IS THE YELLOW ABS LIGHT AND RED BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATE BUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM (INCLUDING ABS) CONTINUES TO FUNCTION WITHOUT ANY NOTICEABLE DEGRADATION. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO OCCUR AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, IE. 3+ HOURS. AFTER THE INITIAL FAILURE, THE YELLOW AND RED LIGHTS WILL BOTH ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY, SOME TRIPS AT THE BEGINNING OTHERS BY THE END (THESE ARE LOCAL AND NOT EXTENDED). WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED (INTERMITTENTLY), THEY ARE BOTH ON FOR THE ENTIRE TRIP -- JUST SOME TRIPS THEY ARE ON AND OTHERS THEY ARE NOT. BRAKE FLUID LEVELS ARE NORMAL AND THERE APPEARS TO BE NO ADVERSE AFFECTS OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM OPERATION. HOWEVER, IF THERE IS AN ACTUAL FAILURE, IT CANNOT BE DISTINGUISHED FROM THIS APPARENT MALFUNCTION. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF ITS WARRANTY PERIOD AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE A VEHICLE REPAIR BILL SINCE THERE IS NO GUARANTEE FORD WILL MAKE THIS RIGHT. THIS HAS NOT CAUSED ANY ACCIDENT BUT COULD POTENTIALLY IF LEFT UNCHECKED. I AM LEAVING THE POSSIBILITY OF VISITING THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO QUESTION THEM ABOUT IT BUT AM REDUCING MY USE OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL I AM ABLE. *TR
I HAVE A FORD WINDSTAR 2003 WITH ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND WE HAVE HAD A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM SINCE WE BOUGHT THE VAN. THEY WANT $800 JUST FOR THE PART TO FIX THE ABS SYSTEM IT NOW HAS 100000 MILES ON IT. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FORD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BILL. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE ABS SERVICE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE BRAKING SYSTEM SERVICE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND UPON RESTART THE SERVICE LIGHTS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE SERVICE LIGHT FAILURES WERE NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
ABS LIGHT COMES ON SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT. BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED. ABS UNIT WAS REPLACED. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, THE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL SO SHE PULLED OVER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED A CRACK ON THE REAR AXLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER ADVISED HER TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 140,780.
MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR ABS BRAKE LIGHT AS WELL AS MY BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CONTINUE TO COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, AND MY BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE IN THE WARM WEATHER THAN IN THE COLD. *TR
2003 WINDSTAR. THE BRAKE ABS LITE INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON, JUST BOUGHT THE CAR, AND THIS DID NOT START UNTIL THE WEATHER GOT BETWEEN 90 & 100 DEGREES. SOMETIMES DOES NOT DO THIS FOR A WEEK, AND THEN AGAIN EVERYTIME YOU START THE CAR.

UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS BROKEN IN HALF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
RECENTLY LOST VEHICLE MOBILITY ON MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR SEL (TYPE AX4N TRANSMISSION). REQUIRED NEW TORQUE CONVERTER AND COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILD. *TR

ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS BEGAN COMING ON MY DASH. THEY WILL GO OFF PERIODICALLY, AND THEN COME BACK ON. THE FIRST DATE THIS HAPPENED WAS IN 2010. I DRIVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. I TOOK IT TO THE AUTO SHOP RIGHT AWAY AND WAS QUOTED OVER $1,000 TO FIX IT. I ASKED WHAT THE PART DOES AND WAS TOLD THAT IT MOSTLY CONTROLS THE ABS SYSTEM. I ASKED HIM WHAT I COULD DO IF I DID NOT FIX IT, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD AFFORD THAT. HE SUGGESTED TO PUMP MY BRAKES WHEN BRAKING. THE SYSTEM IS DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A FAST STOP. I HAVE BEEN HEARING THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER VEHICLES OF THIS SAME MODEL VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. IN APRIL 2010 MY REAR AXLE SUDDENLY BROKE. I PAID A SMALL FORTUNE TO TOW AND FIX THE PROBLEM. IN JULY MY FRONT AXLE SUDDENLY BROKE LEAVING ME WITH ANOTHER LARGE TOWING AND REPAIR CHARGE. AND NOW THE CAR JUST DOESN'T DRIVE NICE AND MY TRACTION AND BRAKE WARNINGS HAVE BEEN LIGHTING UP ON MY DASHBOARD. *TR
WE ARE HAVING CONTINUOUS ISSUES WITH BRAKES ON 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. AFTER 4 VISITS TO FORD DEALER, BRAKES STILL SQUEAK AND BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED, DESPITE MY PAYMENT FOR THESE SERVICES. NOW THE BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY COME ON AND THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT GOES OUT. DEALER SAYS I NOW NEED TO PAY $999 TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULE. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE SCDS, WHICH IS IN RECALL STATUS. REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE, IT'S OBVIOUSLY PANDEMIC AS I SEE THE PUBLIC UNITING TO COMPLAIN OF THESE DANGERS. I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS VAN AND NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY AND THE QUALITY OF FORD'S CARS OR AT MINIMUM THEIR CONCERN OF PUBLIC SAFETY IF NO ACTION IS TAKEN ON THE ABS. I AM REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT DRIVING WITHOUT A WORKING ABS MODULE IS SAFE, BUT THE SCDS WAS NOT EVEN CHECKED. LET'S NOT WAIT UNTIL MORTALITY RATES INCREASE TO ACT ON THIS! *TR

ELECTRICAL ISSUES. I JUST BOUGHT THE 2003 FORD WINDSTAR EX, AND WE'VE EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT, INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKERING OFF AND ON. THIS IS DANGEROUS !! HOW DO WE KNOW IF THERE REALLY IS A BRAKE PROBLEM IF THE BRAKE LIGHT RESETS AND TURNS BACK ON WHILE DRIVING ? IT IS VERY DISTRACTING WHEN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKER OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. WE ARE FINDING OUT THE EXTENT OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MODEL. THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IS DRAINING OUR VEHICLE BATTERY EVERY NIGHT ! I'VE FILED SEVERAL OF THE ISSUES WITH YOUR DEPARTMENT, AND HAVE SEEN THE COMPLAINTS ON LINE. I BOUGHT A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR NEW . I AM THE ONLY DRIVER 66 YEARS OLD. I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN JAN. 2010 AND COULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR FORWARD. TOWED TO DEALER, HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION,000 KM., FACTORY REBUILT $ 3500. NOW APRIL 2010 PUT 5000 KM.ON TOOK IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TO CHECK ON TRANNY, IT WAS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY{STUTTERING}. MECHANIC SAID HE HAD TO REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER, FOUND FLUID IN AND NOW REPLACING RADIATOR. WHAT NEXT????? FORD SHOULD BE REPLACING TRANSMISSIONS, TOO MANY COMPLAINTS. I AM AFRAID TO TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY IN CASE I LOOSE IT AGAIN. HELP! *TR
I AM AN OWNER OF A FORD WINDSTAR SPORT WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN 2003. I'VE RECENTLY HAD THE SCDS REPLACED UNDER RECALL NUMBER 09S09 ( OCTOBER 2009) AND AM NOW EXPERIENCING ANOTHER POSSIBLE ERROR WHICH MIGHT BE LINKED TO THIS RECALL. FOR NO REASON AT ALL, DURING THE CARS MOVEMENT THE ABS AND WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. THIS WORRIES ME THAT THERE IS STILL A SERIOUS FAULT WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THIS VEHICLE. TO DATE I HAVE NOT REPLACED ANY PARTS AS I'VE DISCOVERED THROUGH MANY INTERNET CHAT ROOMS THAT THIS MAY BE A FAULTY ECM MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD,WHICH I AM INFORMED IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE REAR AXLE SUDDENLY BROKE IN HALF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE AXLE HAD RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 83,000.
ABS ECU SEEMINGLY HAS FAILED AS THE "BRAKE" AND "ABS" LIGHTS COME ON SOON AFTER STARTING EVERY TIME THE WINDSTAR IS TURNED ON. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, BUT IS NOW CONTINUAL. THE ONLY FIX FOR THESE TWO LIGHTS IS TO REPAIR THE ABS ECU. *TR
THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITH OUR 2003 FORD WINDSTAR WHICH WE BOUGHT USED APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AGO. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH TO ME AND MY WIFE. YOU CAN STOP FOR TRAFFIC AND WHEN YOU START TO GO AGAIN, YOU CAN BARELY TOUCH THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD AND THE ENGINE RACES REALLY FAST AND WHEN YOU TRY TO STEP ON THE BRAKE IT DOESN'T STOP RIGHT AWAY. IT KIND OF FLIES THROUGH THE AIR AND ALTHOUGH MY WIFE AND I KEEP A BIG SPACE BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, WE'VE BOTH NARROWLY MISSED STRIKING THE VEHICLES AHEAD OF US. IT KIND OF SOUNDS LIKE THE TOYOTA THING. I'VE CALLED SEVERAL FORD DEALERS TO ASK THEM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WE'RE HAVING AND THEY JUST BRUSH ME OFF. WE'RE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT COMPUTER SENSOR MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. CRUISE CONTROL AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGES AND SLOWLY ACCELERATES THE VEHICLE. WHEN NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL AND I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL (NOT YET APPLYING THE BRAKES), THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN, BUT ACTUALLY ACCELERATES AT A SLOW RATE AND CONTINUES TO DO SO UNTIL I APPLY THE BRAKES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING UNUSUAL SOUNDS AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIRS SHOP WHERE SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 113,000.
MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT CONTINUING TO TURN ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY VAN BATTERY BEING DRAINED OVER NIGHT. I CALLED SUNSET FORD IN PEORIA ARIZONA AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME IT WAS RECENTLY REPAIRED IN NOV OF 2009. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN HELP SINCE I BELIEVE THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM . *TR
THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT RANDOMLY COME ON MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. IF I TURN THE VAN OFF AND RESTART IT THEY USUALLY RESET THEMSELVES. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PARTS REPLACED, YET, BUT AM THINKING OF TAKING THE VAN TO THE SHOP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. *TR
