BROUGHT IT TO THE GMC DEALER TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WHICH WAS ON RECALL NOTICE ONLY IF THERE WERE PROBLEMS. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEED SO I TOOK IT TO DEALER. AS A RESULT, PUMP WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS RACK AND PINION. PUMP COVERED, RACK AND PINION NOT, $1700. THE DAY AFTER I PICKED UP THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. AS I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY, MOTOR REVVED BUT TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE. WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. HAD TO HAVE A FLATBED PICK IT UP AND BRING IT TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALER. TRANSMISSION REPLACED...$3,140.00. I FEEL THAT I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN IN THE LANE CLOSEST TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. DEALER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. EIGHT MONTHS PAST WARRANTY. *TR
I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FROM WHAT I HAD THOUGHT WAS A REPUTABLE DEALER, BOY WAS I WRONG. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME WITH IT FROM THE DEALER AN HOUR AND A HALF DRIVE 1 WAY , GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE SOMETHING SEVERE , AND THE RPM,S WENT WILD. I SLOWED DOWN , BUT THE SHAKE , VIBRATION CONTINUED. FINALLY IT DID STRAIGHTEN OUT, AND I GOT HOME. A COUPLE DAYS LATER ON MY WAY TO WORK THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THAN THE SERVICE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY MY DAD WHO IS A MECHANIC, DROVE IT AND IT SHOOK AND VIBRATED SO BAD , HE THOUGHT THE WHEELS WERE FALLING OFF. CAME BACK AND PUT IT IN THE WORKSHOP AND CHECKED THE WHEELS FOR TIGHTNESS, THEY WERE OK. NOTICED A RATHER LARGE COOLANT LEAK ABOVE THE WATER PUMP ,, SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM UNDER INTAKE AREA. CALLED THE DEALER AND SAID WE WERE BRINGING IT BACK ON A TRAILER. ON 1 / 1 / 15 AT ABOUT 9:45 AM DROPPED OFF AT THE DEALER, TOLD THEM AGAIN WHAT THE PROBLEMS WERE AND LEFT IT THERE. ON 1 / 5 / 15 THE DEALER CALLED US AND INDICATED THERE WAS A UPPER RADIATOR HOSE THAT THE CLAMP WAS LOOSE. I TOLD THEM IT WAS NOT AND MY DAD KNOWS WHERE IT WAS FROM. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY DROVE IT AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. AFTER TELLING ME THAT THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE A FORD DEALER AND DO NOT HAVE THE TOOLS TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. RIGHT AFTER THAT THE GENERAL MANAGER SAYS THAT HE DID NOTICE A PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING , BUT ITS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. I SAID THAN YOU PUT YOUR FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE AND TAKE THEM FOR A DRIVE , BECAUSE I WILL NOT PUT MYSELF WITH MY 3, AND 5 YEAR OLD KIDS IN IT. HE SAID HE WILL LOOK AT IT AGAIN TOMORROW. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT EVER AGAIN.
WE PURCHASED A 2009 ACADIA FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER THAT CLAIMS QUALITY IN REGARDS TO THEIR USED VEHICLES. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 6 MONTHS AND THE VEHICLE HAS LEFT ME STRANDED ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND COMPROMISED OTHERS INDIVIDUALS AND MY OWN WELL BEING. FIRST INCIDENT THE CAR WAS IN GEAR BUT WOULD NOT START. WE NEVER FOUND THE REASON THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE BATTERY FULLY CHARGED. NO OTHER ISSUES NOTED. SECOND INCIDENT THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE AGAIN DID NOT START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START. EVENTUALLY CAR JUST STARTED, NO ISSUE WAS UNCOVERED AS THE CULPRIT. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED OUT OF THE BLUE WHILE IN ROUTE TO RESPOND TO AN EMERGENCY CALL AND HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED. WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 4 MONTH OLD GRANDSON THE VEHICLE JERKED AFTER REACHING THE SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THEN THE RPM REGISTERED ABOUT 3800 TO 4500 AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A CRAWL ON THE INTERSTATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT HAD DIAGNOSTICS RAN AND IT INDICATED TRANSMISSION CONCERNS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE LIGHT HAD GONE OFF AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING FOUND. MY HUSBAND AND I LEFT AND WHILE IN ROUTE TO ANOTHER CITY THE VEHICLE AGAIN JERKED AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE RPM ONCE AGAIN REGISTERED BETWEEN 3500 AND 4500. WE WERE ABLE TO CRAWL ALONG AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND BARELY MADE IT SAFELY TO A CERTIFIED GMC DEALER WHICH STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND WE NEEDED ANOTHER AND THE COST WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $3900. THE DEALER REFUSES TO HONOR OR STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. WE RECENTLY HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER TO ENSURE SAFETY RECALLS WERE TAKEN CARE OF, THE DEALER INDICATING NO CONCERNS AFTER A "PROPOSED" INSPECTION. THERE IS CLEARLY DOCUMENTED CONCERNS WITH THIS ISSUE. WE WERE LUCKY AS THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT THE SITUATIONS THAT WE WERE LEFT IN WERE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 ACADIA. IT HAS 79K MILES. WE ARE 4 MONTHS OUT OF OUR WARRANTY. I HAVE A BROKEN WAVE PLATE. 5K TO FIX. I'VE HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES THE ENTIRE TIME I'VE HAD THIS AUTO BUT ALL MY PREVIOUS TIMES THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS TIME, OF COURSE, NOW THAT THERE'S COMPLETE FAILURE AND MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, THEY'VE TOLD ME I NEED A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILD. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION BEGIN TO SLIP INTERMITTENTLY 2 DAYS AGO. IT CONTINUALLY BECAME MORE FREQUENT. I GOT IT INTO THE DEALER RIGHT AWAY AND THEY BELIEVE IT IS THE 3/5 WAVE PLATE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE BEGINNING AROUND 35,000 MILES. GM SEEMS TO BE TURNING A BLIND EYE TO THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THERE IS CLEARLY A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC AND ADVISOR AT THE DEALER EVEN SAID THEY HAVE HAD MANY IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THIS REPAIR IS QUITE EXPENSIVE AND SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO VEHICLES WITH SUCH LOW MILES. I HOPE THAT GM WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO RECALL THIS AND COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. TWO WEEKS AGO, I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE OIL LIFE MONITOR AND ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH. THE ADVISOR STATED THAT THESE ARE TRASH AND SHOULDN'T BE USED AS THEY ARE CAUSING MAJOR ENGINE ISSUES. PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAN STRETCH THE TIMING CHAINS CAUSING MORE SIGNIFICANT AND COSTLY REPAIRS. AGAIN, GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT SEEM TO BE IGNORING THE TRUTH. PLEASE HELP HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND RECALL THESE ITEMS TO PREVENT THE CUSTOMERS FROM VERY COSTLY REPAIRS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2009 ACADIA AT HIGHWAY SPEED (75MPH) WE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN RPM SPIKE AND LOSE OF ACCELERATION. ANY ATTEMPT TO APPLY GAS WAS JUST MET WITH RPM WITH NO ACCELERATION. AS SPEED SLOWED THE VEHICLE LURCHED AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AS WE APPROACHED 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE STRUGGLED TO MAINTAIN THIS SPEED AND WOULD CONSTANTLY LUNGE AND LURCH TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS TO ADJUST FOR THE SPEED. THE TIMING WAS NOT GOOD FOR THIS AS WE ARE STATIONED IN GERMANY, AND WE WERE AN HOUR FROM HOME DRIVING ON THE AUTOBAHN. WHILE WE WERE STRUGGLING TO STAY AT THE MINIMUM SPEED (ROUGHLY 40 MPH), OTHER VEHICLES ARE APPROACHING US AT AUTOBAHN SPEEDS, POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY, GERMANS ARE VERY GOOD DRIVERS AND VERY AWARE OF SLOWER MOVING VEHICLES. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE PULL OFF AREAS TO COOL THE TRANSMISSION, BUT OUR TRIP TOOK FIVE HOURS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 6T75 TRANSMISSIONS THAT GM PUT IN THE 2007-2009 ACADIA'S. NO SERVICE BULLETINS OR WARNINGS EVER WENT OUT TO ME TO LET ME KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IF I WOULD'VE RECEIVED ONE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CATCH THIS EARLIER AND BEEN ABLE TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE 3-5-R WAVE PLATE FAILED PREVENTING SHIFTING TO THOSE GEARS. I BELIEVE GM NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THIS AND EITHER ISSUE A RECALL OR OFFER OWNERS WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES ON THEIR VEHICLES COMPENSATION FOR THE REPAIRS. AT A MINIMUM, ALL ACADIA/ENCLAVE/TRAVERSE/OUTLOOK OWNERS WITH 6T75 TRANSMISSIONS NEED TO RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION TO EXPECT THE IMMINENT FAILURE, IN ORDER THAT THEY MAY GET THE 3-5-R WAVE PLATE REPLACED WITH A PROPERLY TEMPERED PLATE. GM HAS ALREADY IDENTIFIED THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE, BUT HAS CHOSEN NOT TO ACT IN A MANNER REFLECTING INTEGRITY TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND FAILED TO WORK. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,900.
MY SON WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHICH HAS A RIGHT TURN/MERGE OVER A CANAL. UPON REACHING THE RIGHT TURN THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO NAVIGATE THE TURN. THE ACADIA DROVE FORWARD INTO A LARGE PIPE WHICH CROSSES OVER THE CANAL. THE FRONT OF THE ACADIA WAS CRASHED INCLUDING THE FRONT BUMPER, RADIATOR, HEAD LAMPS, ENGINE, DRIVER SIDE FRONT PANEL, PASSENGER SIDE PANEL, AND THE FRAME. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED DURING THIS CRASH. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SIDE AIRBAGS AT THIS TIME BUT NOT THE FRONT AIRBAGS. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING ON THIS GM MODEL. I HAVE HAD EXPERIENCED THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY FAIL WHEN TURNING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. MY DAUGHTER ALSO EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING FAILURE ONE WEEK PRIOR TO MY SON'S ACCIDENT. I WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH HER. THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO MY GMC ACADIA 2009. CONSUMER REPORTS AS WELL AS THE ACADIA FORUM ALSO HAS MENTIONED THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE IN OTHER GMC ACADIAS. THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING DURING THIS INCIDENT IS ALSO VERY CONCERNING. THIS AIR BAG FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR INJURY GIVEN ANOTHER SCENARIO. *TR
POWER STEERING RACK IS LEAKING, POWER STEERING PUMP IS WHINING. GMC DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE EVENTHOUGH GM HAS SENT LETTERS TO OWNERS REGARDING POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING THUS CAUSING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
THE GMAC DEALER IS TELLING US THE OUR 2009 ACADIA HAS A DAMAGED WAVE PLATE AND WILL COST US ABOUT $2500 00 -- $3,000.00 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. OUR 5 YEAR 100,000 MILEAGE JUST EXPIRED LAST MONTH. THE CAR WAS JUST AT THE SHOP FOR THREE RECALLS AND OIL CHANGE. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED I INFORMED THE DEALER AND TOLD THE PROBLEM. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR TO BE SERVICE ON MANY OCCASION AND THE CAR WAS MAKING A SOUND WHEN YOU PUT IT IN GEAR. I INQUIRED ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON BEFORE MY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY RAN OUT. THE GUY THAT WAS SERVICING MY CAR STATED THAT THE MOUNT NEEDED FIXING AND I WAS GIVING A CARD WITH THE PRICE ON IT THAT IT WOULD COST TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS $335.WELL NOT LONG AFTER THAT MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT RIGHT AFTER MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. ALTHOUGH THE DEAL PAID 60%, IF THE CAR DEALER SHIP HAD BEEN HONEST, THEY HAD TO KNOW THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING BUT I WAS TOLD TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WOULD BE ALL RIGHT. THIS WAS NOT TRUE BECAUSE NOT LONG AFTER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, THE TRANSMISSION WENT AND I HAD TO COME UP WITH THE DIFFERENT. I AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND I REALLY NEEDED MY CAR BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY TRANSPORTATION THAT WAS WORKING. I HAD TO CHARGE THE AMOUNT ON MY CREDIT CARD WHICH HAS REALLY CREATED A FINANCIAL BURDEN. I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT CAR DEALERSHIP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER, ONLY THE MONEY. SINCE THEY FIXED THE TRANSMISSION I DO NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM WITH THE CAR JUMPING WHEN YOU PULL OFF. THIS WAS AND STILL IS MY DREAM, BUT I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH A NEW CAR. I HAVE A 2003 MONTERO SPORT AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY ANYTHING. THIS JUST SHOWS THAT THEIR PRODUCT IS NOT AS GOOD AS I HOPED FOR. I WANTED TO UP GRADE TO ANOTHER ACADIA BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID STOP ME FROM LOOKING INTO IT BECAUSE HE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE MORE MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS IS VERY SAD FOR THE PEOPLE THAT TRUSTED IN GMC PRODUCT. *TR
TRANSMISSION HAD A HARD SHIFT INTO REVERSE. DIAGNOSIS WAS THE 3-5-R WAVE PLATE AND UPON READING OTHER COMPLAINTS SEEMS TO BE COMMON. TRANSMISSION SHOP THEORY IS THAT THE WAVE PLATE WAS HARDENED TOO MUCH AND BECAME BRITTLE WITH THE FLEXING CAUSING IT TO BREAK. DEALERSHIP FIXED PROBLEM WITH WARRANTY HELP FROM GM BUT STILL COST $750.00. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD HAVE PAID THE ENTIRE AMOUNT SINCE IT WAS WELL UNDER THE 100,000 MILE BUT WE OWNED IT FOR 6 YEARS. SEEMS THAT THIS FAILURE IS A FUNCTION OF MILEAGE AND NOT TIME AND THUS SHOULD BE TOTALLY COVERED. *TR
THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT BULB HAS MELTED INTO THE BULB SOCKET. THE EXTREME HEAT CAUSED THE LIGHT HOUSING TO DISINTEGRATE. THE BULB WAS OEM. THE SYSTEM IS NON-OPERABLE AND GM SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS WAS ENGINEERED WRONG OR FAULTY MATERIAL WAS USED. THERE CERTAINLY IS A POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE GIVEN THE EXTREME HEAT CAUSED BY THIS SYSTEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN I CAME TO AN INTERSECTION TO TURN. WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL IT WAS MAKING A RUBBING NOISE. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN. THE VEHICLE WAS PASSED ITS WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THE ISSUE WAS THAT THE STEERING GEAR WAS GOING BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I DID NOT REPLACE IT AT THAT TIME, IN THE FUTURE THERE WOULD BE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE TO THE GEAR WHICH WOULD ALSO DAMAGE THE STEERING PUMP AND I WOULD NOT HAVE POWER STEERING. THE QUOTE WAS $1,600 TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR AND BUSHINGS. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DOUBLE THAT IF I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING PUMP. THE STEERING GEAR SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AT 63K MILES! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY AFTER IT WAS RESTARTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT BOTH THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,972..UPDATED 10/14/2014 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HIS/HER VEHICLE WAS FIXED. UPDATED 10/21/14
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REQUIRED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO INDEPENDENTLY DRIVE ONTO A CURB AND NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESUME DRIVING THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER, CAR BEGAN SPUTTERING/HESITATING WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR. SHE AND MY SON WHO HAD BORROWED IT CLAIMED THAT "THE STEERING ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY". ON 16 AUGUST I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A SIDE STREET. AS I WAS DOING SO THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND I WAS UNABLE TO NEGOTIATE THE CORNER WITHOUT CROSSING INTO THE ON COMING LANE. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 3-5MPH. AT THAT MOMENT A CAR APPROACHED IN THE ADJACENT ONCOMING LANE AND TO AVOID HITTING THAT VEHICLE I HIT THE BREAKS SUDDENLY AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. AT 72000 MILES WE HAD THE ACADIA SERVICED BECAUSE OF SHIFTING PROBLEMS, LOOKED AT AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN THEM AN 108000 WHEN MY WIFE HAD A NEAR CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AS THE TRANSMISSION FAILED RE ENGAGE WHILE IN DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND CALLED 911 BECAUSE OF THE DANGER TO MY DAUGHTER, HERSELF AND THOSE MOTORISTS ON THE ROAD WHO COULDN'T SEE THE HAZARD LIGHTS IN THE SETTING SUN DRIVING WESTBOUND - SHE NARROWLY AVOIDED BEING REAR ENDED AND LEFT THE VEHICLE AND SAT ON THE EMBANKMENT UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED. *TR

WHILE TURNING LEFT FROM A STOP SIGN, MY 2009 GMC SLT HAD AN RPM INCREASE AND FAILED TO CHANGE INTO A HIGHER GEAR. I WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. I PARKED AT THE POST OFFICE AND WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE AND TRIED TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. I HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO CARMAX AND HAVE IT REPAIRED. IT IS STILL AT CARMAX AND HAS TO HAVE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. LUCKILY I HAVE AN EXTENDED MAINTENANCE PLAN SO I ONLY HAVE TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE INSTEAD OF THE ENTIRE AMOUNT. I FEEL THAT BASED ON THE NUMBER OF SAME COMPLAINTS AND SAFETY ISSUES THAT GMC SHOULD HAVE TO ISSUE A RECALL TO HAVE ALL THE TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED VERSUS THE INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE OWNERS HAVING TO PAY. THE CONTACT WAS FOUND LYING OVER THE CONSOLE AND WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION SHOP. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V266000 (SEAT BELT) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAVE A 2009 ACADIA SLT2. I WAS ENTERING THE HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATING WHEN THE CAR WOULD NOT INCREASE IN SPEED AS I WAS MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS NEARLY HIT BY A SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK. THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER THIS. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD BY A GM AUTHORIZED DEALER THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THEY REPLACE A COIL. 2009 GMC ACADIA COIL PACK FAILURES. THE COIL PACKS FAIL WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER FROM THE ENGINE. IT CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME. WE HAD 2 FAILURES SINCE JUNE OF 2014. BOTH TIMES WE WERE IN TRAFFIC AND THIS LOSS OF POWER CREATED UNSAFE DRIVING SITUATIONS. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS SLOWLY BECOME HARDER AND HARDER TO STEER AT LOW SPEEDS AND LOW RPM. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, THE POWER STEERING ON THE ACADIA SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. INCIDENT (FIRST BIG SYMPTOM): BRAKING AND SLOWING TO YIELD SIGN FROM OFFRAMP/ STEERING FELT AS IF IGNITION TURNED OFF AND CAR BECAME MUCH LESS STABLE IN STEERING WITH A STIFFENING AND RATTLING/TAPPING NOISE SOMEWHERE JUST LEFT TO THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL. ONCE TRYING TO TURN REALIZED THERE WAS NO POWER, THOUGHT THE ENGINE HAD STOPPED RUNNING AND THEN HITTING THE GAS THE STEERING SUDDENLY POPS BACK INTO ASSIST. THIS IS A VERY UNSETTLING FIRST OCCURRENCE THAT I SEE ON MULTIPLE INTERNET SITES HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AT LEAST 2011 IN MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THIS CHASSIS. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE KNOWN THIS BEFORE TWO THINGS: 1. BEFORE I HAD MY FOUR DAUGHTERS AND THE NEIGHBORS KID IN MY CAR TO PUT AT RISK OF KILLING THEM ( GM SHAME ON YOU AS YOU THIS PROBLEM EXISTS FOR 4 YEARS) 2. BEFORE THE WARRANTY WAS ONE MONTH OUT OF CONTRACT. THE DEALER STATES THIS IS "UNUSUAL TO THEM', THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF IT HAPPENING AND DO NOT THINK IT IS UNUSUAL THAT A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 58000 MILES ON IT HAS THE ENTIRE STEERING PUMP, GEAR, AND RACK ASSEMBLY BLOW SEALS. REPAIR COSTS ARE QUOTED AT 2000.00. NEED TO REPLACE RACK, PUMP AND SOMETHING ELSE. ADDITIONALLY, THERE ARE 56 POSTS RELATING TO STEERING ALONE. SOME OF US DRIVING THESE VEHICLES FEEL THAT BEING ABLE TO HAVE A CHANCE OF PILOTING THE CAR SAFELY MAY BE IMPORTANT. MOST COMMON AT SLOWER RATES OF SPEED, THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT & THE VEHICLE BECOMES EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. HOWEVER, THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT 65+ MPH. THAT WAS EXTREMELY SCARY. MORE THAN ONCE, I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO TURN INTO AN ONCOMING LANE B/C THE STEERING IS TOO STIFF TO TURN PROPERLY. THE ISSUE WAS INTERMITTENT, BUT IS NOW CONSTANT. HAVE FLUSHED/REPLACED POWER STEERING FLUID, REPLACED POWER STEERING PUMP & RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE IS AT MY LOCAL DEALER NOW (AS OF 8/22/14) & THEY ARE TELLING ME THE NEW PUMP IS BAD & THAT THE STEERING GEAR IS LEAKING...ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF IT LEAKING EXTERNALLY ON THE GROUND & THE DIP STICK CONSISTENTLY SHOWS THE RESERVOIR AS FULL. I AM SO EXHAUSTED BY REPLACING HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2009 ACADIA. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND HAVE REPLACED HEADLIGHTS, CONNECTORS, WIRING, AND MORE HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE NEVER HAD ALL WORKING HEADLIGHTS AT ANY ONE TIME. THIS CLEARLY IS A SAFETY ISSUE! WHILE EMPTYING OUT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE LIFT GATE PROCEEDED TO DESCEND WHILE I WAS TAKING OUT OUR SUITCASES. I WAS UNAWARE THIS WAS HAPPENING AND MY HAND WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HATCH. THE LIFT GATE DID NOT STOP WHEN IT HIT MY HAND AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED AWAY FROM IT CATCHING MY FINGER ON THE SHARP SIDE OF THE MECHANISM. IT RIPPED OPEN MY MIDDLE FINGER, CUTTING IT TO THE TENDON, REQUIRING A TRIP TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. I HAD TO GET ELEVEN STITCHES TO CLOSE THE WOUND AND A TETANUS SHOT. AFTER WE ARRIVED HOME AND INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM, WE DISCOVERED THE STRUTS ON THE LIFT GATE MUST HAVE BEEN WEAK TO LET THE HATCH DESCEND. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS NO FAIL SAFE WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO STOP THE DESCENT! MY BROTHER-IN-LAW ALSO GOT CAUGHT AND IT TOOK A GREAT DEAL OF MUSCLE TO PUSH IT UP. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A CHILD GOT CAUGHT IN IT? I HATE TO THINK OF THE OUTCOME. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT THIS DEFAULT WOULD BE A PRIORITY ISSUE TO CONSIDER. THE FAIL SAFE SHOULD WORK NO MATTER WHAT. MY WIFE HAS STATED THAT THIS IS ALMOST A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE STEERING AND MANY TIMES SHE HAS TO USE A LOT OF FORCE TO STEER THE VEHICLE IN A STRAIGHT LINE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND THAT IT WOULD COST $400 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. WE DECLINED THE REPAIR AND FELT THAT THIS WAS AS SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED WITHOUT ANY COSTS TO US. WE HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY HOWEVER WE HAVE ONLY RECEIVED A FORM TYPE E-MAIL INDICATING THAT OUR COMPLAINT IS IN THEIR FILES. I HAVE NEEDED TO REPLACE 7 LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS ON MY GMC ACADIA SINCE 2011. THIS WEEK BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS WENT OUT IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. REPLACING THE HEADLAMPS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ITEM DUE TO THE LABOR INVOLVED (REMOVING THE FRONT WHEELS AND WHEEL WELLS). THIS COSTS ANYWHERE BETWEEN $150 TO $250 EACH TIME. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN. THIS LAST EVENT HAPPENED AT NIGHT REQUIRING US TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT ANY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. *TR
THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHERE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE THE ENGINE IS AT LOW RPM. TYPICALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS, BUT MAKES IT UNSAFE TO STEER WHEN IT HAPPENS. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE EXITING A FREEWAY WITH GAS OFF AND ENGINE IDLING IT IS DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN/IF IT HAPPENS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE AND SAW THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST GM FOR THIS. I HOPE THEY GM RECOGNIZES THIS AND TURNS INTO A RECALL AS THIS CAR HAS HAD MANY SAFETY RELATED ISSUES. *TR
THIS IS IN REGARDS TO THE CENTER ROW, MIDDLE SEAT BELT. MY 9 YEAR OLD WAS SITTING IN THIS SEAT USING THE SEAT BELT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT ROUGHLY 40 MPH WHEN THE LIGHT AT THE BOTTOM CHANGED SO I STOPPED. MY SON WAS LEANING A LITTLE FORWARD AND THE SEAT BELT LOCKED UP. I TOLD HIM TO LEAN BACK AND IT SHOULD UNLOCK. BUT IT DID NOT, IT KEPT CLICKING LIKE WHEN USING A SEAT BELT FOR A CAR SEAT. AT WHICH POINT HE BECAME STUCK UP AGAINST THE SEAT AND COULDN'T MOVE HIS CHEST. HE STARTED PANICKING SO I HAD TO PULL OVER TO ASSIST HIM. I UNBUCKLED THE SEAT BELT AND LET IT GO IN AND IT LOCKED, COMPLETELY INSIDE THE SEAT. AFTER PUSHING IN WHAT LITTLE SLACK THERE WAS I GOT IT TO RELEASE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OUT, BUT ONLY ABOUT 6 INCHES AND THEN IT LOCKED AGAIN. I THEN HAD TO MOVE MY CHILD TO ANOTHER SEAT WHILE ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY ROAD. THE SEAT BELT HAS REMAINED LOCKED IN THIS POSITION FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS. I TOOK THE CAR IN LAST WEEK FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS SO I ASKED IF THEY COULD LOOK AT THIS TOO. THEY MISQUOTED US ON THE PRICE AND THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT WAS TO TAKE THE WHOLE SEAT APART AND IT WOULD COST ROUGHLY $400.00 AND INSISTED THERE WOULD BE NO WAY FOR THIS TO BE FOR A RECALL, AS THEY DIDN'T SEE IT AS A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE TO ADAMANTLY DISAGREE. A SEAT BELT LOCKING AND NOT LOCKING COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS THING IN AN ACCIDENT, OR EVEN IN A SUDDEN STOP. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND AS WE BEGAN TO TURN LEFT TO PARK THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. WE HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY TO AVOID A COLLISION. IT TOOK INCREDIBLE ARM STRENGTH TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR OUT TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT - TO RETURN HOME WITH THE CAR. WHEN ACCELERATING (HIGHER RPM'S) THE POWER STEERING CAPABILITY RETURNED. WHEN DRIVING SLOWLY TO TURN INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING NOT ONLY FAILED - BUT ALSO FROZE. NO AMOUNT OF ARM STRENGTH COULD TURN THE WHEELS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN, AND AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE TODAY - I FOUND THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF GMC ACADIA. I ALSO FOUND THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED FOR THIS SAME CAR DEFECT. IT IS VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MANDATED, AS THIS DEFECT CAUSES RANDOM STEERING FAILURE AND COULD BE FATAL. *JS
I WAS MAKING A TURN AT A CURVE AND THE STEERING SEEMED TO LOCK UP. I BRAKED HARD TO STOP BEFORE RUNNING OFF ROAD. STEERING WHEEL KICKED AS I TRIED TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS, THEN STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THE STEERING HAS GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS MAKING TURNING DIFFICULT AT ALMOST ANY SPEED. IT IS INTERMITTENT AND COMES ESPECIALLY AT SLOWER SPEEDS. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALER YET. *JS
OVER THE LAST YEAR THE TURNING ON MY ACADIA WHILE AT SLOW SPEEDS HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THIS ESPECIALLY HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEEDS, BUT I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO COMPLETE MY TURN. IN APRIL IT FINALLY GOT WORSE WHERE I NEEDED "BRUTE FORCE" TO MAKE A TURN AND I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME THE AUTOMOBILE IS AN "ACCIDENT" WAITING TO HAPPEN AND I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER DRIVE IT ANYMORE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE HAS REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RACK AND PINION AND THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES!!! HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO! I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER OUT THERE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. GM NEEDS TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT!! THIS IS A 45K CAR AND THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS SHOULD NOT EXIST, AND IF THEY DO, THEY SHOULD BE HANDLED BY GM PROMPTLY. I AM PLANNING ON FILING A LAWSUIT AS SOON AS I FIND A LAWYER FAMILIAR WITH THESE GM ISSUES. *TR
