GAS GAUGE ON 2000 GMC K1500 PICK UP TRUCK WORKING ERRATIC. SOMETIMES GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY AND THEN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON. I UNDERSTAND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THESE TRUCKS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. GMC NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL THANKS. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES ON GMC PICKUP AT 21,000 MILES FAILED, AND HAD THE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED ON 7-30-04. THE BRAKES WERE NOT STOPPING VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS OF 10 MILES OR LESS. ON 8-26-05 HE HAD THE RUST CLEANED OFF BECAUSE HE WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES AGAIN AT 23,890 MILES. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME PROBLEM IN CANADA. *AK *JB
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI -LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE ABS LIGHT WAS STILL ON, AND THE ABS DID NOT WORK. WHILE DRIVING FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE. THIS RESULTED IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. HE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL.*AK THE CONSUMER HAD DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR. UPDATED 12/07/05. *JB
PULLING 5TH WHEEL CAMPER ALONG INTERSTATE TRIED TO STOP AT TOLL BOOTH.BRAKES FINE UNTIL ABOUT 10MPH WHEN PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE WASN,T STOPPING.TRAILER BRAKES STOPPED TRUCK.DEALER SAID RUST ON SENSORS.ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED AT 48,000 MILES DUE TO ROTORS ROTTING AWAY.PADS WERE DAMAGED BY ROTORS.
BRAKE FAILURE- SEVERELY RUSTED AND CORRODED BRAKE LINES. HAD TO HAVE EVERY BRAKE LINE CHANGED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE; THE FIRST TIME IN 2005 WITH 70,000 MILES AND THE SECOND TIME WAS ON 10/16/11 WITH 85,000 MILES. BRAKE LINES BROKE AND ALL FLUID CAME OUT, NO BRAKES AT ALL HAD TO TOW VEHICLE TO GARAGE. THIS LAST REPAIR COST ME $1200.00. MY TRUCK IS USED FOR PERSONAL USE, NORMAL OPERATION. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS NHTSA RECALLS CAMPAIGNS 04V129000 CONCERNING TAILGATE: HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS, AND 05V161000 CONCERNING PARKING BRAKE. THIS VEHICLE MANIFESTS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALLS. BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS DUE TO VIN. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE.*AK UPDATED 12/7/2005. *NM
CONSUMERS AIRBAG SENSING DIAGNOSTIC MODULE SDM CONTAINED AN ANOMALY WHICH COULD RESULT IN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS FAILING TO DEPLOY. *TS THE CONSUMER APPARENTLY FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL AND EXTENSIVE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATED PARKING BRAKE NEVER WORKED SINCE HE BOUGHT THE TRUCK. HE HAD IT REPAIRED AT EWING BUICK GMC IN 2004. TRUCK HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PARKING BRAKE IN THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. NO RECALL NUMBER WAS AVAILABLE. HE FELT THAT THE REPAIR WORK SHOULD BE DONE ON THE PARKING BRAKE OF UNDER THE RECALL ALTHOUGH THIS TRUCK DID HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THE PARKING BRAKE IN HIS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEVER WORKED FROM THE TIME HE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2000. HE HAS SPOKEN TO GMC. THEY COULD NOT GIVE HIM A REASON AS TO WHY IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN BOTH THE AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. *AK
EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS STATE SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO INOPERABLE EMERGENCY BRAKE. GM IS AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT IS ONLY FIXING VEHICLES THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. GM STATES THAT VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS DO NOT NEED AN EMERGENCY BRAKE. IF THE VEHICLES MASTER CYLINDER FAILS WHILE DRIVING, THIS WILL BE THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES ARE IDENTICAL, SO GM IS CHOOSING TO SELECTIVELY FIXING A KNOWN DEFECT. THE GM DEALERSHIP STATED THAT REPAIRS COULD RUN UP TO $700. *JB
I OWN A 2000 GMC SIERRA PICKUP 4X4. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. WITHIN THE LAST TWO MONTHS, THE ABS HAS ACTIVATED WITHOUT NEED MORE THAN FORTY TIMES AT LOW SPEED. SEVERAL TIMES ALMOST CAUSING A ACCIDENT! THE DEALERSHIPS I'VE TALKED TO HAVE DONE NOTHING.. AS OF LATE, I'VE SEEN ON THE NEWS THAT GM AND NHTSA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IS LOOKING INTO IT. WHICH IS GREAT, BUT THE STATES THEY ARE LOOKING AT, ISN'T ONE I LIVE IN. THIS PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT I HAVE DISABLED THE ABS FOR FEAR IT WILL CAUSE A ACCIDENT! THE SNOW IS COMING SOON AND I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A BRAKING SYSTEM THAT WORKS AT 100% PLEASE DO WHAT EVER YOU CAN TO SPEED THIS PROCESS ALONG. POOR BRAKING PERFORMANCE, COMPLETE DETERIORATION OF BRAKING SURFACE OF ROTORS FRONT AND REAR LEADING TO PREMATURE FAILURE OF BRAKING SYSTEM. REPLACEMENT OF ALL FOUR ROTORS AND PAD SETS FRONT AND REAR. ALSO UNWANTED ANTILOCK ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS DUE TO SENSOR OR ABS COMPONENT FAILURE OR MIS-PROGRAMMED ABS MODULE NOT DIAGNOSED AT THIS TIME. *NM
DT:THE OWNER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE LOW SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT STOP SIGNS. THE ABS PROBLEMS BEGAN LAST YEAR. THE OWNER HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT WHEEL SENSORS AND RINGS REPLACED. THE BRAKES WORKED OKAY FOR A WHILE. THEN ON JULY 28 2005 WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH AND APPROACHING A RED LIGHT TRIED TO STOP BUT THE BRAKES FAILED. COULD NOT STOP AND HIT THE CURB. THE OWNER ADDED A QUART OF BRAKE FLUID AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW THE BRAKE FLUID SQUIRTING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINES. THEN, AT HOME THE OWNER LET THE VEHICLE SIT AND THE REST OF THE BRAKE FLUID DRAINED OUT. THEN, THE OWNER CALLED GMC, AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. HE DID NOT THINK IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE LINES TO RUST AT 47,000 MILES. GMC ADVISED THE OWNER TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHO KEPT THE CAR FOR ONE WEEK. GMC SENT AN INVESTIGATOR WHO COULD NOT FIND A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINES. THE INSPECTOR WAS CONTACTED BY THE OWNER ,AND THE OWNER ASKED IF THE INSPECTOR HAD FILLED THE BRAKE FLUID AND PUSHED THE BRAKE AND HE SAID NO. THE OWNER ASKED HOW CAN THE FLUID LEAK OUT IF BRAKE FLUID WAS NOT PUT IN. THEN, THE OWNER EXAMINED THE BRAKE LINES AND SAW THAT THEY WERE RUSTED/CORRODED. THE OWNER CONTACTED GMC AGAIN ADVISING GMC THAT THE INSPECTOR HAD NOT FILLED THE BRAKE LINES. GMC DENIED THE OWNER'S CLAIM. HOWEVER, THE OWNER DID NOT KNOW WHY THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THE OWNER THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OF RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THE OWNER PAID THE REPAIR COST. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE THE OWNER NOTICED THE BRAKE LINES WERE ONLY PARTIALLY REPLACED. THE COST OF REPAIRS WAS $894.78 FOR ABOUT 4 FEET OF BRAKE LINES.*AK
THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE ( ONE ) RUSTED THROUGH . BULLETIN NO.04007A ISSUED OCT 22, 2004 DOES NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM SINCE MY TRUCK WAS BUILT ON, OR ABOUT, AUGUST OF 1999 AND THE START DATE OF THE EXISTING RECALL IS 10/99. PLEASE REFERENCE NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 10010543. *NM
DT THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD . HE PUMPED THE BRAKES TO STOP WHICH CAUSES EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED UNDER 10 MPH. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THIS VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED. THE ABS INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THAT HE WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS ACTIVATING AT LOW SPEEDS OF 6 MPH AND BELOW. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS BRAKING. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH HIS DEALER, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT WAS UPSET BECAUSE HIS STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 AND GM RECALL 05068. THE VEHICLE IS A 2000 GMC ,SIERRA. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS. THE CONTACT HAS NOT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BECAUSE HE DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HAS CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT THE REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - THE CONSUMER HAD TO REMOVE THE ABS FUSE SO HE COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALER WERE AWARE F THE CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SENSOR. MINNESOTA AND SOUTH DAKOTA WERE EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. *NM
DT: 2000 GMC SIERRA, THE VEHICLES ANTI-LOCK BRAKES COME ON AT LOW SPEED, WHEN THE CONSUMER PUTS PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES AT FOR EXAMPLE 10 MPH THE ABS KICKS IN, THERE ARE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE, THERE ARE NO OTHER PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. *NM
THE ABS SYSTEM IN MY 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500 PICKUP CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES WHILE BRAKING ON DRY PAVEMENT, CAUSING ME TO LOSE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE. AFTER THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE TIMES I WAS MORE CAUTIOUS WHEN STOPPING, SO ACCIDENTS WERE AVOIDED - HOWEVER, BEFORE I WAS ABLET TO GET MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE THERE WERE SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS OUT OF CONTROL. THIS ONLY OCCURRED WHEN I WAS COMING TO A STOP, AND THE VEHICLE HAD SLOWED TO 5 MPH OR LESS. I WOULD NOT BE REPORTING THIS BUT FOR THE FACT THAT THE MECHANIC AT MY BRAKE SHOP SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL GM TRUCKS OF THIS AGE. APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE ABS SENSOR, BUILT INTO THE FRONT WHEEL HUBS, IS NOT DESIGNED WELL ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALT AND SAND COMMON TO THE NORTHEAST. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. BUT OTHERS MAY NOT BE AS FORTUNATE IN THE FUTURE. ALSO, DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE HUB/SENSOR, THIS REPAIR IS RATHER EXPENSIVE (ALMOST $400), SO I WAS ONLY ABLE TO AFFORD REPAIRS ON ONE SIDE. MY MECHANIC SAID THE OTHER SIDE WILL LIKELY FAIL SOON AS WELL. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA CLASSIC. HE HAD TO REPLACE A FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY THAT WAS HOUSED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. THERE WAS SOME RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLES BUT NOT FOR HIS MODEL. THERE WERE FOUR WIRES IN THE FUEL TANK TWO OF THE FOUR WIRES WERE MELTED TOGETHER INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. *JB
DT: A 2000 GMC 3500 DUMP TRUCK WHICH WAS PASSING BY STRUCK THE CONSUMER WHO WAS ON A BICYCLE. THIS RESULTED IN A CRACKED BICYCLE HELMET AND CAUSED CONSUMER TO BE THROWN OUT OF THE WAY BY THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES. CONSUMER FELT THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND FILED A SAFETY COMPLAINT. *AK *JB
RUST ON BRAKE ROTERS ON GENERAL MOTERS PICK UP TRUCKS . PADS ARE STOPPING ON RUST INSTEAD OF METAL ON ROTERS. WAS TOLD ALLOY USED FOR ROTERS ARE BAD CAUSING AN UN SAFE CONDITION. TURNING ROTERS DOES NOT HELP BECAUSE RUST IS DEEP IN THE ROTERS.
WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT DOING AROUND 5MPH, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED CAUSING MY TRUCK NOT TO STOP. BECAUSE MY TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP I HIT THE CAR IN THE PARKING SPOT AHEAD OF ME CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PERSONS CAR. I AM GOING TO TAKE MY 2000 GMC SIERRA TO A CERTIFIED GM DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT.
ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS CAUSING TRUCK TO FEEL LIKE IT'S NOT GOING TO STOP. I HAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP NOW AND THEY TELL ME BOTH SENSORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I ONLY HAVE APPROX. 22,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. IT'S A 2000 SIERRA
DT: THE BRAKE LINE ON THE REAR WHEEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE THREE TIMES. ON THE JUNE 17, 2005 IT BROKE AGAIN AT THE SAME LOCATION . IT WAS BREAKING IN THE FLARE INSIDE THE FITTING. WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES IT SPRAYED BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE PLACE. *AK *JB
RIGHT REAR MANIFOLD BOLT BROKE ALLOWING EXHAUST LEAK WITH ACCOMPANYING NOISE. REPAIRS WERE MADE WITH SUBSEQUENT FAILURE. DEALERS DECLINED ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY OR OTHER ASSISTANCE. SUBJECT BOLT HAS FAILED FOR THIRD TIME. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT SLOW SPEED OVER IRREGULAR( BUMPY) SURFACE. THE ABS ACTIVATES, THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP WITHIN A SAFE DISTANCE.THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLEANED THE MOUNTING SURFACE FOR THE ABS SENSORS. THIS WAS AFTER TWO FAILURES. THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE ME UNTIL I EXPLAINED THIS IS A DESIGN SAFETY FLAW AND THEY AGREED TO COLLECT FROM GENERAL MOTORS. THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED IN THIS SAME MANNER TWO (2) MORE TIMES EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
BRAKE LINES CORRODED (RUSTED). *JB
DT: CONTACT STATES THE CABLES OF THE TAILGATE BROKE TWICE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE, BUT THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. *AK
ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT IMPROPER TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS DURING BRAKING. EFFECT IS TO LIMIT BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS AT LOW SPEEDS. NEARLY HIT OTHER VEHICLES AND OBJECTS. FAILURE IS INTERMITTENT BUT INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. CONSIDERING DISABLING THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM.
ABS FAILED
THE FUEL GAUGE QUITS AT VARIOUS TIMES, READING ZERO AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. IT SEEMS TO BE A RELAY PROBLEM IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE OFF DURATION IS GETTING LONGER AND IS NOT REALTED TO FUEL TANK LEVEL NOR TO VEHICLE MOVEMENT. SHUTTING THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF AND THEN BACK TO ON WILL USUALLY CURE THE PROBLEM. SOME TIMES WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE COMES ON THE LEVEL RISES VERY SLOWLY, TAKING SEVERAL MINUTES TO REACH THE FULL LEVEL WITH THE TANK FULL.
DT: THE ABS BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE ABS SYSTEM KICKS IN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, USUALLY BETWEEN 40-5O MPH *AK THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME THAT THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND CAN CAUSE A LOT OF STRESS BECAUSE SHE HAS TO CONSTANTLY WATCH HOW SHE DRIVES YOU DRIVE , SO IF THE BRAKES DO FAIL SHE WOULD BE PREPARED TO PREVENT A CRASH. *SB *NM
DT: ABS LIGHT IS COMING ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC WHO TOLD THE CONSUMER THERE WAS A RECALL, WHEN CONSUMER CALLED MANUFACTURER, THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. *TT
DT: CONTACT STATES THE BRAKES ARE FAILING BELOW 5 MPH WHEN THE ABS TRIES TO ENGAGE, THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE SERVICE DEALER DID NOT INFORM THE CONTACT WHAT SPECIFICALLY WAS WRONG WITH THE ABS. *AK
JANUARY 27, 2005, MY TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP D/T LOUD METAL GRINDING IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL(DRIVER'S SIDE). THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE SOUND CONTINUED AND WAS TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP FEBRUARY 2, 2005 AND THE BEARING WAS "CLEANED OUT". MAY 7, 2005 WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL FELT LIKE I HIT SOMETHING. WHEN I GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL. ROUNDING A CURVE AT 25 MPH THE HUB AND THEN THE AXEL BROKE. THE TRUCK WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED BY AAA TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT WAS REPAIRED AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS D/T THE AFTER-MARKET WHEELS.
I OWN A 2000 GMC SIERRA TRUCK THAT HAS BECOME HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE DUE TO REPEATED ANTILOCK BRAKE PROBLEMS. AT SLOW SPEEDS THE ANTILOCKS WILL ENGAGE AND REMAINED ENGAGED, PREVENTING THE TRUCK FROM COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE MATTER HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE LAST YEAR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I'VE COME EXTREMELY CLOSE TO SUSTAINING SUBSTANTIVE VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. AS SUCH, THE TRUCK IS VIRTUALLY UNDRIVEABLE FOR SAFETY REASONS.
ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT LOW SPEED, LIKE WHEN COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN, OR WHEN PULLING UP TO A DRIVE THRU WINDOW.
INCORRECT FUEL GAUGE READINGS WHEN AT A FULL TANK. *AK
THE PAINT IS FALLING OFF THE ROOF OF VEHICLE. *AK
REDUCED BRAKING WHEN GOING SLOW OVER BUMPY ROADS OR RAIL ROAD TRACKS.WHEN BRAKING IN THESE CONDITIONS THE ABS WILL PULSE FOR NO REASON AND REDUCE BRAKING.
DT: WHILE DRIVING ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, THE CONSUME COULD FEEL THE ABS KICKING IN, HE COULD FEEL IT PULSATING. THIS MORNING HE JUMPED A CURB, AND WENT ONTO A SIDEWALK BECAUSE THE BRAKES FAILED. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS, BELOW 5 MPH. WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES WILL WORK FINE UNTIL HE GETS TO ABOUT 5 MPH. THEN THEY FAIL. CONSUMER STATES THIS HAPPENED EVERY DAY.*AK *NM
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE USED. THE USED CAR LOT SAID ALL THE CLUNKING IN THE REAR AND VIBRATION IN THE FRONT WAS DUE TO AN ALUMINUM DRIVE SHAFT. I HAVE BEEN TO NUMEROUS NEW AUTO DEALERS AND NO ONE CAN FIND THE SOURCE. I HAVE PHONED GM AND THEY SAY IT IS THE FIRST TIME THEY EVER HEARD OF CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE REAR. YET THIS PROBLEM IS POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IT MAY NOT CAUSE A CRASH BUT IT SURE IS IRRITATING TO HEAR OVER EVERY LITTLE BUMP IN THE ROAD. *JB
VEHICLE HAD BRAKE ANTILOCK PROBLEMS WHEN FIRST PURCHASED. LOUD SOUND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP AND PEDAL BECOMES STIFF RESULTING IN SLOW/NO STOPPING. DEALER REPLACED WHEEL SENSOR. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AGAIN. SAME NOISE SAME RESULTS. DEALER STATES SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE SOMETHING THAT WOULD LAST MUCH LONGER THAN A FEW MONTHS (LESS THAN A YEAR!) IT HAS THE STRONG POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS HARM/ACCIDENTS AS THIS HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING.*AK
VEHICLE: 2000 GMC SIERRA, EXT. CAB, 4WD, LESS THAN 19000 MILES. VEHICLE EXIBITED INTERMITTANT LOW-SPEED ANTILOCK BRAKE ACTIVATION. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE MANY "CLOSE CALLS" ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ANTILOCK MOTOR WOULD ACTIVATE UPON INITIAL BRAKE APPLICATION (VERY LOW PRESSURE IN HYDRAULIC LINES), NO DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO THE VEHICLE OR OTHER PROPERTY. A POTENTIAL DANGEROUS SITUATION EXISTS WITH THESE HEAVY VEHICLES. LOW OUTPUT FROM RIGHT FRONT ABS SENSOR WAS DIAGNOSED. I REPLACED ENTIRE HUB AND SENSOR ASSEMBLY. THE SYMPTOM IS NOW GONE. THE OLD PART IS STILL IN MY POSESSION FOR INSPECTION.
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE POWER STEERING ROD BROKE ON H 2000 GMC SIERRA. THE CONSUMER DID HAVE THIS REPAIRED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONSUMER DID CONTACT GM. THE INFORMATION THEY GAVE HIM WAS THAT HE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ON THE SAME ISSUE. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE SPEED WAS ABOUT 20 MPH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. *AK
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT MY SONS BASEBALL GAME WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES ,AND THE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES STARTED BUZZING. LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH FOR THE PARK TO ENGAGE ON THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON DRY PAVEMENT GOING THIS SLOW. I HAD ZERO BRAKES AND I WAS BARELY MOVING WHEN THEY WERE APPLIED. THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING WHEN I RETURNED TO THE TRUCK AFTER THE GAME. I CALLED A LOCAL SHOP, AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO IF THEY WERE WORKING PROPERLY NOW. I CALLED G.M. AND HAD THEM LOG MY COMPLAINT, THEY TOLD ME THAT I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO COMPLAIN. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA AFTER LEARNING OF MORE OF THE ODD BRAKE FAILURES FROM OTHER GMC TRUCK OWNERS. *NM
TRUCK DRIVE TRAIN INTERMITTENTLY MAKES CLUNK NOISE WHEN I FIRST START OFF FROM A STOP. WHEN I STOP AT A RED LIGHT IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE JUST HIT ME FROM BEHIND GOING FROM FIRST INTO SECOND GEAR. IT STARTED AT ABOUT 88000 MILES / 4 YEARS AGO AND HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE ELECTRICAL OF SORTS. WHEN THE TRUCK STARTS ACTING UP WITH THIS PROBLEM I USUALLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD & TURN OFF THE IGNITION...WAIT 20-30 SECONDS & RESTART THE IGNITION...98% OF THE TIME THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM & THE DEALERSHIPS GIVE ME NOTHING BUT THE RUNAROUND. THE TRUCK SERVES ME WELL WITH 238000 MILES ON HER BUT I MOST DEFIANTLY WOULD LIKE TO FIND THE CURE & FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
ABS BRAKES FAILED AT LOW SPEED WHEN TRYING TO STOP. I HIT A SMALL TREE AND ALMOST HIT A FIRE HYDRANT. *NM
TOOK THE TRUCK INTO A LOCAL GOODYEAR STORE TO HAVE A WHINING NOISE DIAGNOSED. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE AND TURNED THE WHEEL IN ONE DIRECTION. WHEN HE TRIED TO TURN IT BACK, IT WOULD NOT TURN. HE PROCEEDED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND ADVISED US THAT THE SHAFT ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD JUST SNAPPED OR BROKEN. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED, AND WE RETAINED THE OLD POWER STEERING PUMP. I HAD HEARD ABOUT A RECALL FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE AND CALLED A GM DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE INTO THE RECALL. I WAS ADVISED THAT GM HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL OF OUR TRUCK FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM WE HAD EXPERIENCED, BUT THAT OUR PARTICULAR TRUCK (WHEN IT WAS LOOKED UP BY VIN NUMBER) WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL TRUCKS.*AK
FOG LIGHT LENSES ARE FALLING OUT DUE TO IMPROPER INSTALLATION. *AK *BF *NM
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH UP ON INCLINE THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. DRIVER SLOWED DOWN AND JUMPED OUT THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS. *AK
