VEHICLE WAS INVOLED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK GENERAL MOTORS STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGES AFTER THEIR INVESTIGATION. *SLC
THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE OFF FOR ABOUT 35 MINUTES, WHEN IT SUDDENLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK *CB *JB
WHEN TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE LIFTS UP AND KICKS SIDEWAYS. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
JACK THAT COMES WITH VEHICLE HAS A HEAD THAT IS ABOUT ONE INCH IN DIAMETER. CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT JACK CANNOT PROPERLY LIFT VEHICLE. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SAFELY USE AND REMOVE THIS JACK. *YH
DT: THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER OPERATED PROPERLY. IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. OWNER HAS HAD THE PARKING BRAKE CHANGED AND IT STILL DID NOT WORK. OWNER THOUGHT THE CABLE ASSEMBLY WAS THE PROBLEM. HE FOUND THIS INFORMATION IN THE CONSUMER REPORTS IN JULY 2005 ISSUE. THE OWNER CONTACTED GM AND THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO HELP HIM. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS UNLOADING A BOAT ON A RAMP, THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT HOLDING THE TRUCK. IT HAS WORKED FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS. OWNER COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.*AK *SB PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (APRIL 4, 2006): THE COMPLAINANT (DRIVER) WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL WHEN HE FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKES ALONE WOULD NOT IMMOBILIZE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT ROLL BACK INTO THE WATER.
BRAKE SYSTEM FAILS TO ENGAGE FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 SECONDS AFTER PRESSURE HAS BEEN APPLIED TO THE PEDAL. CONSUMER HAS TAKEN VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH BRAKE SYSTEM. CONSUMER RECENTLY REARENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 70 MPH WHEN VEHICLE AHEAD OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN, BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. NO INJURIES, NO POLICE REPORT, COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK
THE SAFTY DEFECT IS THAT THE ENGINE JUST QUITS AT ANY SPEED. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TWO TIMES. ONCE AT 3793 MILES ON APRIL 5, 2001 AND THEN AGAIN AT 6340 MILES ON MAY 15, 2001. BOTH TIMES THE ENGINE BEGAN TO PING AND THEN JUST STOPPED RUNNING. BOTH SITUATIONS HAPPENED WHILE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET TO A SHOULDER LANE ON THE HIGHWAYS. THE SAFETY PROBLEM IS IF THE TRUCK SHOULD STOP AT A LOCATION WHERE ROAD REPAIRS ARE IN PROGRESS AND THE SHOULDER LANES ARE BLOCKED BY CEMENT BARRIERS TO NOT ALLOW ME TO GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY LANES WITH HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC. THIS IS NOT HYPOTHETICAL, I DRIVE HWY 35 BETWEEN SAN ANTONIO AND DALLAS AND THE HIGHWAY IS ALLWAYS UNDER REPAIR, THE CEMENT BARRIERS ARE UP AND THE HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC IS THERE. THE DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN IS THE TRUCK STALLING AT THESE LOCATIONS.*AK
GAS GAUGE DOES NOT RGISTER TILL 1/2 HOUR LATER. CONSUMER FEELS THIS MAY BE UNSAFE BECAUSE CHILDREN MAY BE PRESENT, AND MAY RUN OUT OF GAS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH OR HIGHER VEHICLE WILL START TO BOUNCE, MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR DRIVER TO STEER. PROBLEM WORSENS WHEN ROAD CURVES.*AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT BEING DRIVEN DUE TO DEALER NOT BEING ABLE TO REMEDY PROBLEM, CONSUMER DOES NOT FEEL THAT VEHICLE IS SAFE. *SLC
IT TAKES A HALF AND HOUR BEFORE FUEL GAUGE WILL REGISTER. CONSUMER FEELS THAT IT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THERE ARE CHILDREN PRESENT, AND IF ON ROAD AND IT COOLED THEY MAY FREEZE. *AK
THERE WAS A LARGE "BOOMING" NOISE COMING FROM VEHICLE EVERYTIME CONSUMER DROVE IT. THIS NOISE OCCURRED WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A STOPPED POSITION. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND THEY GREASED DIFFERENTIAL. HE WAS TOLD THIS WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER STILL EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK
VEHICLE WOULD LEAN TO LEFT, AND ALSO PULLED LEFT WHILE DRIVING. BEEN TO DEALERSHIP , AND HAD 2 STEP COIL SPRINGS/ INSULATOR , AND BODY SHIMS REPLACED ON LEFT SIDE. BROUGHT VEHICLE 1/8 INCH ON ALL FOUR CORNERS. LATER VEHICLE WAS HIGH LEFT AND LOW REAR LEFT. *AK
SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THIS TRUCK, I WAS DOING LESS THAN 20 MPH SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A LIGHT. I HIT A SMALL DUMP THEN I HEARD THE ABS COME ON AND I ROLL RIGHT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT MUST BE MY DRIVING. AFTER SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR SITUATIONS, I HAD THE ABS DISCONECTED AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER FAILURES.
WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS A VIBRATION AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO VEER TO THE LEFT AND BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE, CAUSING CONSUMER TO SWERVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THEN ONTO THE SHOULDER, WHEN THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED CONSUMER DISCOVERED THAT BOTH TIRES ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAD SUFFERED BEAD SEPARATION, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FIRESTONE DEALER AND AFTER EXAMINGING BOTH TIRES IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIRES WERE ONLY INFLATED TO 40LBS PRESSURE EACH, THE FIRESTONE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT PROPERLY INFLATED TO MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS AS PER THE DOOR STICKER, THE UNDER INFLATION CAUSED THE BEAD SEPARATION, THERE WAS DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO THE VEHICLE. 2001 2500HD DISC BRAKE ROTORS RUSTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TS THE VEHICLE FAILED A SAFETY INSPECTION AN THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE ALL FOUR ROTORS AND WHEEL PADS REPLACED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ( CHATTER, VIBRATION OR JERKING) OF A PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE BEING TAKEN FOR INSPECTION. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS DENIED.
MY PICKUP HAD A RECALL (#01021) TO CHANGE THE RECOMMENDED AIR PRESSURE . THE PRESSURE WENT FROM 55PSI IN THE FRONT AND 80 PSI IN THE REAR TO 35 PSI ON ALL TIRES. I CONTACTED FIRESTONE AND THEY TOLD ME THIS PRESSURE WAS UNSAFE AND THOSE TIRES SHOULD HAVE NO LESS THAN 58PSI. THE NEW STICKER MAKES NO MENTION OF INCREASING THE AIR PRESSURE IF A LOAD IS BEING CARRIED. THE RGVW FOR THAT TRUCK IS 6084 LBS, AND THE TIRES ARE EACH RATED TO CARRY 3042 LBS AT 80 PSI. A LOWER AIR PRESSURE DRASTICALLY REDUCES THE LOAD BEARING CAPABILITY OF THE TIRE, WHICH IS NOT ACCOUNTED FOR BY GMC. MY DEALER AGREES THAT THE PRESSURE IS TO LOW AND HAS RECOMMENDED I REMOVE THE TAG AND USE THE PREVIOUS RECOMMENDED PRESSURE. I AND THE DEALER HAVE CONTACTED GMC AND CAN GET NO ANSWER ON WHY THEY CHANGED THE PRESSURE AND WHETHER IT IS SAFE. I AM CONCERNED THAT OTHER OWNERS WILL NOT REALIZE THERE IS A POSSIBLE SAFETY CONCERN WITH OPERATING THESE TIRES AT SUCH A LOW PSI. *AK (TIRESIZE: LT245/75)
ENGINE KNOCKING- DESCRIBED BY GMC AS AN OIL CAVITATION NO KNOWN FIX AND ONLY CERTAIN TRUCKS ARE HAVING THE PROBLEM
OWNER WAS DRIVING WHEN VEHICLE SLIGHTLY WENT OFF THE ROAD. ONCE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATIONS SPINDLE BROKE, CAUSING IT TO LOSE CONTROL AND ROLL OVER FOUR TIMES. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
CONSUMER STATES WHILE PARKED ON AN INCLINE, THE PARKING BRAKES FAILED TO HOLD, VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD, PARKING BRAKES SHOES WERE WORN EXCESSIVELY, METAL TO METAL, CAUSING DAMAGE TO ROTOR.*JB
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED REAR AXLE PROBLEMS. *AK *JB
AFTER FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. *PH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, IT WOULD NOT START. THE FUEL PUMP WAS CHANGED BUT NOT THE CONNECTOR. THE PROBLEM RESURFACED AND QUIT RUNNING NUMEROUS TIMES. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL CAP WAS NOT TIGHT ENOUGH WHICH CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. (THE CAP WAS TIGHTENED) THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT MORE THAN ONCE. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS THEN OUT OF WARRANTY. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND THE SERVICE DEALER FOUND NO GAS PRESSURE AND REPLACED THE PUMP. THE VEHICLE STOPPED AGAIN WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN UPON HIMSELF TO GO UNDER THE VEHICLE AND WIGGLED THE WIRING HARNESS WHICH STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE DEALER CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR HARNESS. (THE CONNECTOR WAS BURNED AND PITTED) *SC *JB
WHILE STARTING UP THE VEHICLE CONSUMER HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE KNOCKING NOISE WAS NORMAL. *AK
LARGE CHUNKS OF RUBBER IS COMING OFF VEHICLE'S TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS IS CAUSED BY VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN OVER A GRAVEL SURFACE.
TIRES ON A 3500 GMC SIERRA WERE NOT THE CORRECT TIRES FOR THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE.*MR *PH *JB
THERE IS EXCESSIVE ENGINE NOISE, THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS SAID IS ENGINE LIFTERS. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP GM HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN OIL PUMP ISSUE. THEY SAY THAT SUFFICIENT OIL IS NOT PUMPED TO THE ENGINE, SO THERE IS A LACK OF LUBRICATION. THE RESULT IS A TYPICAL "LIFTER STICKING" NOISE. THE DEALER SAYS THAT GM HAS NOT ISSUED ANY SORT OF A RECALL YET! IN FACT THEY SAY THERE IS NOT AN ADVERSE EFFECT OR DAMAGED BEING CAUSED TO THE ENGINE. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE AS PROPER LUBRICATION IS CRUCIAL TO MOTOR LONGEVITY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE, AND THE LONG GM WAITS TO DIAGNOSE AND RECALL THIS PROBLEM, DAMAGE TO THIS VEHICLE WILL ONLY WORSEN. IF ALL ALLOWED TO GO LONG ENOUGH, I WOULD THINK GM WOULD BE LOOKING AT HAVING TO REPLACE MOTOR BLOCKS, RATHER THAN INSTALLING AN OIL PUMP THAT CAN HANDLE THE TASK OF GETTING OIL TO THE CRANK CASE. *TS *NLM ****DIMSII IVOQ ENTRY POSTED AFTER 12-12-02 CUT OVER TO ARTEMIS****761983
CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD LEAK DIESEL FUEL INTO THE OIL, AND OVERFLOW WHEN THE INJECTORS STUCK OPEN. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED 14 TIMES. VEHICLE WOULD GO INTO LIMP MODE, AND WOULD REACH CERTAIN RPMS WHEN THIS HAPPENS.*JB
THE VEHICLE HAS FRONT END PROBLEMS WHICH MAKES TRUCK VEER TO THE RIGHT. DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO THE SECOND ALIGNMENT BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. *YH...*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELTS LOCKING MECHANISM FREQUENTLY LOCKS THE BELT IN A RETRACTED OR PARTIALLY RETRACTED POSITION, THE DEALER REPLACED THE BELT, HOWEVER IT STILLED OPERATED THE SAME, THE DEALER STATES THAT THE BELT WAS INTENDED TO SECURE A CHILD SEAT, THEREFORE BEING MORE SENSITIVE TO DECELERATION THAT THE DRIVERS BELT, WHILE IN MOTION, THE BELT BECOMES SO SHORT AND IS UNCOMFORTING TO THE PASSENGER. *SLC
THE TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY SHIFTS INTO GEAR UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR SLOW SPEED. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AS MANY AS TEN TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE. ON MAY 4TH IT OCCURED SO VIOLENTLY THAT THE PASSENGER IN THE REAR HIT HIS HEAD ON THE REAR WINDOW. IN THIS INCIDENT THE SHIFT WAS SO HARD THE REAR WHEELS LEFT THE GROUND(ALL 4) AND THEN THE TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD CAUSED HARM TO THOSE INSIDE THE TRUCK AND COULD HARM OTHER DRIVERS OR PEDESTRIANS. THE TRUCK SEEMS TO GO TO A NEUTRAL OPERATION EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE IN DRIVE THEN WHEN THE RPM"S ICREASE TO ABOVE 2,000 IT SUDDENLY SHIFTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES AND RECENTLY COMPLETED ARBITRATION TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK. THE GMC REPRESENITIVE CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A "HEAVY DUTY" TRANSMISSION SUCH AS THE ALLISON. THE BEST DISCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM IS IT FEELS AS IF YOU HAVE BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 15-20 MPH. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION HAS A PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THE TRUCK TO LURCH FORWARD JUST AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE LURCH CAN BE QUITE STRONG CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JUMP FORWARD IN EXCESS OF A FOOT. THE LURCH OCCURS AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE BEST DESCRIPTION I CAN OFFER IS THAT IT FEALS AS IF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HIT IN THE REAR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. IT HAS OCCURED AT LEAST 6 TIMES ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS.*AK
WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT LOW SPEED AND WHEN DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL IT WOULD TRAVEL TO FLOORBOARD INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

SIDE OF THE TIRES BLEW OUT FOR NO APPARENTLY REASON, FIRESTONE RHS 245/75R16 LDE
BACKING UP AT ABOUT 2MPH HIT A PIPE STICKING OUT OF THE GROUND. THE PIPE WAS ABOUT 3 FT. HIGH. IT HIT THE REAR BUMPER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE BUMPER WAS BENT SO BADLY THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A COST OF ALMOST $600.00. I THINK THIS BUMPER SHOULD HAVE WITHSTOOD THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT.*AK
NEW VEHICLE ONLY 6 DAYS OLD, DRIVEN ONLY 350 SOME MILES, WHILE ON LOCAL ROAD AT SPEED LIMIT (30) BEGAN TO VIBRATE, UNABLE TO CONTROL CAUSING ME TO SWERVE INTO ONCOMING LANE THEN ONTO SHOULDER. WHEN VEHICLE STOPPED IT WAS FOUND BOTH FRONT AND REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE HAD BEADS HAD SEPARATED. TOWED TO FIRESTONE DEALER WHO UPON CHECKING FOUND PASSENGER SIDE TIRES ONLY AT 40LBS, GMC DOOR STICKER STATES 55LB FRONT, 80LB REAR.
