NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2012 GMC Terrain. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
I recieved a recall on the oil consuption sensor in march had the part put in at Paola Kansas Vickers Chevrolet they half assed it if you ask me they said they did not take my wheel off i asked them to check that sensor it wouldnt reset the air pressure told me it would be 140 i said not come to find out there is a recall it never came back on but it always made a terrible wheeel noice after. With in a few days it was useing a 1 to 2 quarts of oil every week i changed my oil every 3 months or 5400 miles or less sometime 3500 per my dad. Then come January it got below 0 and my oil froze up and i waited tell it was over 32 added oil and went to work with in 35 miles the light came on and said turn off engine low oil so i did put in more oil got to work on the wayhome stopped every 15 miles added oil. My stepdad who is a machanic looked at it and said the sensor was not in tight enough causing condisation cause the engine to lock up
I just spent 1,600 dollars to replace the timing chain. I know their were recalls on this, I was wondering why my vin and model were not included in these recalls?
Once again, timing chain incident, this time while driving, wasn't expecting it, suddenly my Terrain steering when became stiff to turn, and happened to realize the car motor had shut off and rolling to the right, nearly hitting parked car. I tried to start vehicle, but made a whining sound, but did not start, yet check engine light was on. I had my OBD reader handy, and got p0011, p0017 codes, which tell me it was the timing chain again in this car. This very dangerous because we could of collided with a parked vehicle, if not for me struggling so hard to steer vehicle while steering wheel was stiff.
Excessive oil consumption caused blown engine
I have a problem with the Headlights they are yellow and there is no way I have found to clean them. It makes it hard to get a bright view at night especially when travelling on secondary streets with low or limited lightning. I have also noticed that a lot GMC Terrains have the same issue. Is there are will there be a recall on my 2012 GMC Terrain it does create a very dangerous situation especially at night. I no longer like to drive at night because of this problem, the coatings on the lights makes the night vision awful. Thank you for reading. You can send me a reply.
I keep the oil changed on a regular basis and every time a few days later I would have to add another quart. Finely it wouldn't stay running and i took it to the garage and the engine had what i was told plastic through out the motor. Now I am paying for a car i cant even use. aT ONE TIME i RECALLED THERE WAS AN OIL ISSUE WITH THESE MODLES AND YEAR.
This suv has an oil consumption and it caused it to blow the timing chain and mess my motor up.
Very high oil consumption. I recommend it's the piston rings
My timing chain went out due to losing oil to quickly.
I was getting on the Interstate when a really bad rain storm came up. I turned my windshield wipers on and they got stuck in the upright position. I tried many times to get the wipers to work, but they would not move. I had NO VISIBILITY and I was on an elevated ramp getting on the interstate. I could not see anything so I had to roll my window down, drive 5 miles an hour and use the white line on the road as a guide. I got soaking wet as did my car. I had to drive about a mile before I could safely stop the car. There was no warning and I am reading now there is an issue with this on Terrains. This was an EXTREMELY dangerous, I could have severely hurt myself or someone else. I am getting really tired of all the recalls on the Terrain. So far there have been six (6) for my car and a few more that don't seem to apply YET!!
Just recently I took my GMC Terrain on a recall . They told me that the timing chain had to be replaced. The car only has 111,441 miles, I don't think at 111 thousand miles a timing chain should be replaced. It must be a manufacture defect . We dealing with a chain, not a timing belt.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact noticed that there was oil leaking onto the ground. The contact inspected under the hood and saw that there was no oil on the dipstick. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the engine was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The contact stated that after two oil changes, the oil was extremely black on the dipstick. The contact stated that the engine had consumed over 2 quarts of oil after 2,500 miles. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that an oil consumption test was necessary to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000.
I am having trouble with these things now. The powertrain especially I have not had accident yet but it keeps going dead on me in the middle of driving down road. Causing me to have to put in neutral and restart. At this time the steering goes out. This needs to be repaired before an accident does happen. The drivers seat does not move forward or backwards. The tire pressure warning does not warn until it is at 20 psi.
Over the past couple years I have become worried to even drive this vehicle. Well Taken care of and maintenance completed regularly. This vehicle has been in the shop 7 times in the past couple years but no one can tell me exactly what is going on. Only 1 place has told me that I need extensive electrical work but couldn't tell me what exactly the problem was. Issue #1: When coming to a stop, and/or idle, the engine seems to give up and vehicle shuts off. Issue #2: When started Engine sounds like a.high pitch raddle. Issue #3: Occasionally, while driving on the interstate going around 60 - 65 mph the electrical inside the vehicle will flash and everything shuts off and the emergency brake is applied automatically. This has become dangerous - if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt I could have been thrown through the windshield. Issue #4: Replace Fuel Cap Sensor comes on even though it's been replaced. Issue #5: Engine Power Reduced notification comes on even though it had a new battery and alternator. Issue #6: Occasionally Speakers sound blown and you can hear a buzzing as you accelerate. Issue #7: Stabili Track, ABS, and TPMS Sensors all come on at once and go away at once atleast 4 times a week. Issue #7: Rear Cam doesn't always work, sometime either black or static looking. Issue #8: Sometimes key sticks in ignitiin and will not turn on unless being jumped by another vehicle. Issue #9: Often upon starting the whole dash goes black and will stay that way for several hours then comes back on. I've checked all fuses and multiple mechanics can't figure it out. As time goes by without repair I'm scared to even drive this vehicle. Why can't someone figure this out!!
Wiper system failed, without notice or warning, while in use during travel on the highway, severely limiting visibility and creating significant safety event. No accident was reported as other vehicle passengers were able to assist the driver in safely maneuvering the vehicle to a safe stopping location.
Says powertrain control module failure. Also oxygen sensor on the my gmc app. It keeps cutting off in the middle of road.
First off before I got the car it had gone through a tune up. About a couple months after I got the car little things started to happen it would rock back and forth while idling I thought it was kind of an indicator that it needed oil but the percentage was still at a decent range and telling me it didn't need oil plus I hadent driven it 3000-5000 miles. Then engine light came on had it inspected codes ran came back telling me something about Throttle body So I purchased a whole new throttle body in Prosser at dealership costing me some booko buks and swapped it out when I got back home I then took it for test drive along with my 4 kids in the vehicle with me and then a little ways about 20 mins driving engine power reduced light came on along with stabilitrak and eventually lost power I was stranded in the middle of summer in the middle of nowhere with my kids windows rolled down ppl drove by and asked if I needed help and eventually came back with jumper cables tried to jump me but the car wouldn't budge I then left the car there overnight and took battery out to have it inspected the next day IT WAS FRIED (over 4 yrs old) so I had to purchase a new one costing me roughly 150 buks then took it back to where my car was stranded put it in and alarm went off and I clicked the button on key ring stuck it in ignition shit the door behind me locking keys in car while vehicle was still running and had to bust a window out to get to em. Got into car drove off made it back to my apt left it running outside while I went inside to get some stuff before I THOUGHT the problem was solved it shut off again.....I then had to replace the alternator costing me another pretty penny....about a couple weeks later I was starting a new job at a assisted living facility and arrived 10 mins early shit car off a noticed smoke coming from under hood I was confused because where the smoke was coming from couldn't have been it overheating I popped the hood and my car was on fire!!!!
My Terrain recently started having “excessive” engine oil use. During the last two oil changes the dipstick has not registered any oil. I took it to a GMC dealership, but they only checked oil consumption after 1000 miles and the vehicle is at 121,000 miles currently. I don’t believe it is fair for them to allow an issue of this magnitude to continue, because it wasn’t using 1 qt of oil in 1000 miles, prior to the vehicle reaching 150,000 miles. I have to keep watching the oil levels in order to not damage my engine due to a known issues with the 2012 GMC Terrain. I also have to miss work & drive 30 miles to a dealership in order to have issues documented. I feel like they are just hoping I run out of time & mileage, since the recall is for a certain amount of time.
MY HUSBAND STARTED THE TERRAIN, BACKED OUT OF GARAGE & IT DIED. IT STARTED AGAIN THEN. HE WAS DRIVING IT 10 MILES FROM OUR HOME & WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN THE COUNTRY, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH EVEN AS HE PRESSED DOWN THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN HE REACHED HIS DESTINATION. HE SHUT OFF THE CAR & TRIED TO RESTART IT TO MOVE IT & IT STARTED. COUPLE DAYS LATER, IT STARTED TO MOVE IN GARAGE HOWEVER WHEN WANTING TO REMOVE IT FROM GARAGE, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. HASN'T SINCE. I WAS CKG OIL PERIODICALLY & WHEN NEEDED SO THERE WAS STILL OIL IN IT. TOWED IT TO DEALER & TOLD US THE TIMING CHAIN WAS BAD. SAME AS WHAT GMC & CHEVY 2011 & 2012 CARS ARE DEALING WITH. BAD OIL CONSUMPTION. GMC NOR OUR DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD US THIS CAR 2 YEARS AGO WILL BACK THEIR PRODUCT. THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE SOLD IS THIS CAR IN THE FIRST PLACE SINCE THERE WAS ALREADY A LAW SUIT AGAINST CHEVROLET & GMC FOR THIS PROBLEM. I STILL OWE MONEY ON THIS CAR & NO ONE WILL HELP WITH THIS DILEMMA.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly stall. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that there was no presence of engine oil inside the engine. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption, and he had been refilling the engine oil reservoir weekly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine piston rings were faulty, causing the rapid oil consumption. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 97,000.
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY, ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A KNOCKING/RATTLING SOUND; CHECKED DIPSTICK THE NEXT MORNING AND THERE WAS NO OIL ON IT. OIL HAD JUST BEEN CHANGED 2,500 MILES PREVIOUSLY. VEHICLE IS CONSUMING OIL AT AN ABNORMALLY HIGH, ABOUT ONE QUART PER 500 MILES, AND HAS NO WARNING LIGHT TO ALERT THE DRIVER WHEN THE OIL LEVEL IS TOO LOW. WE ARE AT RISK OF EXPERIENCING ENGINE FAILURE AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE DISCOVERED THIS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AFTER OUR OTHER VEHICLE OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE LINKED TO LOW OIL PRESSURE. VEHICLE HAS 93,400 MILES AND WE HAVE OWNED IT SINCE APRIL 2020. THIS MODEL YEAR VEHICLE IS KNOWN TO BE EQUIPPED WITH FAULTY PISTON RING ASSEMBLIES WHICH LEAD TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE SENSOR TO ALERT THE DRIVER TO THE LOW OIL; CONSEQUENTLY, THIS MISLEADS THE OWNER INTO OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH INADEQUATE OIL LEVELS AND CAUSING ENGINE DAMAGE. COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE CAN OCCUR SUDDENLY, CREATING AN ENORMOUS SAFETY HAZARD; WE ARE LUCKY WE WERE NOT DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME IT OCCURRED. GM ISSUED A SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT, BUT IT WAS NOT NEARLY ADEQUATE TO COVER THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE THAT CAN AND DOES OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT, LEAVING MANY DRIVERS STUCK WITH UNRELIABLE, UNSAFE VEHICLES OR ASTRONOMICALLY EXPENSIVE REPAIRS.
WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, THE ENGINE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER BEING TOWED FOR SERVICE, WE LEARNED THERE WAS ALMOST NO OIL LEFT, CAUSING THE TIMING CHAINS TO FAIL AND THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. WE HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE LESS THAN 12 HOURS PRIOR AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS SUCH AS LOW OIL, CHECK ENGINE, ETC. THE VEHICLE HAS JUST UNDER 78,000 MILES ON IT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN 1,200 MILES AND 2 MONTHS FROM NEEDING AN OIL CHANGE. All of these models have been prone to oil consumption issues, during the pandemic GMC of Southern pines North Carolina decided to charge us $500 for the repair because we were not able to make it on time. This is something that GMC has been avoiding and throwing its customers in a loop in order to fix. Oil consumption due to the fault of GMC can be found in our records of repair.
THE OIL IN MY CAR SEEMS TO DISAPPEAR. I GET MY OIL CHANGED AND AFTER ABOUT 500 MILES THE OIL IS GONE. THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT. THE MENU SAYS I HAD 50 PERCENT LIFE LEFT ON THE OIL. CHECK THE OIL AND IT IS IKE A RUST COLOR. Y ENGINE HAD STOPPED. IT WILL NOT CRANK. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT'S NEEDS ANEW ENGINE. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. FIND OUT THAT PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME CAR HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO B GONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE NO WARRINITY LEFT ON THE CAR. IT ALL HAS TO B OUT OF POCKET.
WIPER TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WATER AND DEBRIS ENTERED THE WIPER ASSEMBLY BALL JOINTS AND CAUSED EXCESSIVE WEAR, ALLOWING THE BALL JOINTS TO DETACH AND CAUSING THE WIPERS TO STOP WORKING
Evap emission control leak detected As the check engine light comes on, when hooking a computer up to the car for a scan it pulls a code stating there is an evap leak. The gas cap has been replaced along with a sensor and no gas is seen leaking but you can smell gas vapors when the car is running and fuel mileage is terrible. Also the stabilitrak has been an underlying issue since owning the vehicle
DASH CRACKS EVERYWHERE, ALL ATTACHMENT POINTS ARE CRACKING. NO APPARENT REASON OTHER THAN USING A UN U.V PROTECTED PLASTIC.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHEN THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT WENT ON ON MY DASHBOARD AND IT SAID STOP ENGINE NOW WITH A VERY LOUD ALARM. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION TO CHECK THE OIL AND I DID HAVE TO ADD ABOUT 3 QUARTS OF OIL. SO I ASSUMED THIS WOULD FIX THE ISSUE BUT WHEN I STARTED DRIVING ABOUT 1 MINUTE AFTER I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT AND ALARM CAME AND IT AGAIN SAID STOP ENGINE NOW. I FINALLY GOT IT HOME AND I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT DID NOT START. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A FEW MECHANICS AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE WAS GONE THAT IT FAILED THE COMPRESSION TEST 3 TIME AND THE VAVLES WERE BENT . I HAD JUST GOT A OIL CHANGE ABOUT 1 MONTH PRIOR TO THIS .
VEHICLE BEGAN TO USE EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL AND IDEL UP AND DOWN AND SOMETIMES EVEN SHUTS DOWN. AFTER ABOUT 3 MONTHS WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IT BEGAN TO SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION. I CALLED FOR SOMEONE TO CHECK THE VEHICLE OUT AND HE ARRIVED CALLED SOMEONE TO CHECK THE VEHICLE AND HE ACTUALLY TOLD ME IT SEEMS TO BE THE MOTOR GONE BAD BUT HE ASKED WOULD I DRIVE IT BACK HOME IF HE FOLLOWED BEHIND. IT LITERALLY SCARED ME AND MY 4 CHILDREN TO DEATH WHEN IT SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION WITH THAT KIND OF SPEED SO I DON'T TRUST PUTTING MY CHILDREN IN IT NOW. I DON'T THINK ITS SAFE AT ALL. THE VEHICLE I ONCE THOUGHT WAS PERFECT FOR MY FAMILY IS TURNING OUT TO BE A NIGHTMARE.
I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A RECALL CONCERNING OIL CONSUMPTION. I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT COULD BE DONE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE REPAIRED
DURING A BAD STORM THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT PAST THE WINDSHIELD AND THE MOTOR FROZE UP MOTOR STARTED HUMMING THEN LOCKED UP.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO A FRIENDS HOUSE. SHE LOST ALL POWER, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BACK UP. THERE WAS 3/4 TANK OF GAS IN IT. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A NEARBY SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. UPON THE VEHICLE LEAVING IT HAD A LOT OF GAS ON THE GRAVEL ROAD. WHEN IT MADE IT TO THE SHOP THERE WAS OBVIOUS FUEL LINE ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET, STILL WAITING ON A REPLACEMENT LINE FROM A DEALERSHIP. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT GM SHOULD HAVE HAD RECALLED AND FIXED IMMEDIATELY. THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED DUE TO IT STILL UNDER A MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, BUT I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THAT. THE SHOP WHERE THE WORK IS GOING TO GET FIXED AT SAID THIS WAS COVERED UP TO 150,000 MILES. IF THIS WAS AN ISSUE TO THAT MILEAGE, IT SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
CAR IS BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. NOW THE ENGINE HAS SEIZED UP

We received a notice in the mail regarding our vehicle with our VIN #. And it mentioned our particular size engine had a recall for potential emissions part condition of degraded catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensors caused by excessive engine oil consumption affecting some vehicle from our year, make, and model. We were surprised to receive this notice because we always park in reverse and we had noticed how it was turning the curb side black coming from the tail pipe. We did receive one other notice before and took it to the dealership to have it maintenance but my honest opinion I do believe they did anything to our vehicle because it was running the same and also took it to Midas after taking it to the dealership because it ran the same. Anyhow I hope upon receiving this other notice we can actually maybe get reimbursed and actually get it fixed finally.
I WAS DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM ACROSS A LONG THREE LANE BRIDGE WHEN MY WIPER SYSTEM FAILED. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF WIND, RAIN AND TRAFFIC ROAD SPRAY, I COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD OR VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD ZERO VISIBILITY. MIRACULOUSLY, I MADE IT SAFELY ACROSS THE BRIDGE AND OFF THE SHOULDER INTO A GRASSY AREA. THE DEALERSHIP THAT MADE THE REPAIR TOLD ME THAT GM COVERED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE WIPER ASSEMBLY BECAUSE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS DEFECT, BUT HAVEN'T ISSUED A PUBLIC RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO HAVE CONTINUED ANXIETY ISSUES WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND ACROSS LONG BRIDGES. PLEASE MAKE THIS A PUBLIC RECALL. THANK YOU
The contact's uncle owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving 34-35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact drove to the residence under 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the variable valve timing chain was bent, and the dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH the vehicle was consuming engine oil. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed it. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the manifold on the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
THE DEFROSTER WILL NOT SWITCH AIR FLOW TO VENT. THIS CAUSES THE ENTIRE CAR TO FOG UP CONSTANTLY ESPECIALLY THE WINDSHIELD DURING RAIN OR HUMID WEATHER. THIS OBSTRUCTS VIEW AND CREATES A LIFE THREATENING HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING CONSTANTLY ON HIGHWAY I SIDE STREET.
CAR IS MISFIRING AND SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING AND CAR STOOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I TURNED ON MY CAR AND PULLED OFF AND CAR CUT OFF.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS JUST STOPPED WORKING. THE MOTOR STILL RUNS BUT THE WIPERS WILL NOT MOVE
WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, MY WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE UP POSITION AND WOULDN'T MOVE. THE MOTOR WAS STILL WORKING BECAUSE YOU COULD HEAR IT CYCLING, BUT THE WIPERS WOULDN'T MOVE. FORTUNATELY THE RAIN WASN'T VERY HEAVY, I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY DESPITE THE IMPAIRED VISIBILITY. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IN SOME OF THE RECENT RAIN WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
CAR BURNS OIL QUICKLY. I HAVE TO GET FREQUENT OIL CHANGES. TWO WEEKS AGO OIL HAD LEEKAED INTO MY CAR.
My vehicle has excessive oil consumption including the need for frequent oil refilling, combined with audible rattle and knocking sound.
ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION NO CHECK OIL LIGHT CAME ON. HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING.
Steering wheel locks and hard to steer while driving. System light comes on stating check power Steering. Also stabilizer light comes as well.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 GMC TERRAIN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, WHEN TWO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF HIM CRASHED. THE CONTACT STATED HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED STERNUM DUE TO THE SEAT BELT AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND STAYED OVER NIGHT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 136,000. *DT
THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE DURING A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC BUT WERE EVENTUALLY ABLE TO MOVE OVER AND PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. THIS EQUIPMENT FAILURE COULD HAVE HAD A TRAGIC ENDING FOR US AND THE OTHER MOTORISTS AROUND US. WE UNDERSTAND THERE WERE RECALLS FOR 2013 MODELS FOR THIS FAILURE. NOT SURE WHY A RECALL HASN'T BEEN DONE ON 2012 MODELS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 GMC TERRAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED YET. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS RAINING. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. AAA arrived at the contact's residence and replaced the battery. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the plugs and other unknown parts were replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact replaced the battery twice. The contact also stated that the passenger's side headlamp had failed. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V137000 (Exterior Lighting) which he associated to the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
