EXHAUST LEAK. BOLT BROKEN ON DRIVER SIDE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS IN THE ENGINE POWER FOR A BRIEF MOMENT. THE VEHICLE THEN RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IN DECEMBER 2010 THE CAMSHAFT IN THE 5.3L GM ENGINE REPORTEDLY DELAMINATED CAUSING ONE OR MORE LIFTERS TO GALL AND FAIL REQUIRING A NEW ENGINE. I PURCHASED A FACTORY 5.3L ENGINE FROM A GM DEALER AND HAD THAT INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WITH THE ASSURANCE OF A 3 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. 28 AUGUST MY WIFE TOLD ME THE ENGINE WAS NOISY. ON STARTING THE ENGINE IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT OIL WAS NOT PUMPING THROUGH THE LIFTERS. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER ON THE 29TH FOR DIAGNOSIS. ON 30 AUGUST THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS SHIPPED WITH FAULTY CASTECH HEADS THAT CAUSED COOLANT TO SEEP INTO THE OIL. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD LIKE, IF IT IS THE JOB OF THE NHTSA, TO HAVE THE 5.3L ENGINE RECALLED. *TR
NOISE COMING FROM DRIVERS SIDE LIKE LIFTER NOISE FOUND FIRST TWO BOLTS ON THE HEAD BROKEN FOR THE MANIFOLD. *TR
RECENTLY, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2006 YUKON DENALI XL W/ A 6.0 ENGINE. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST SHOWED A GAS CAP PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A CLICKING SOUND. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. WHILE IN THE SHOP, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED 2 BOLTS THAT WERE BROKEN ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND IT WAS FOUND THAT ONE OF THE BOLTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS BROKEN, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS NOT YET LEAKING. THE AUTO SHOP WAS ABLE TO EXTRACT ONE OF THE BOLTS, BUT HAS FOUND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE OTHER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WITHOUT PULLING THE ENGINE. THIS IS A NECESSARY REPAIR BECAUSE IMPROPER EXHAUST IS A DIRECT VIOLATION OF EPA STANDARDS. FURTHERMORE, ENGINE FIRES CAN RESULT FROM THIS TYPE OF ISSUE. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER GM VEHICLE OWNERS WITH A SIMILAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT PROBLEM. IN FACT, THERE IS A VIDEO CREATED BY CARQUESTIONS ON THIS EXACT ISSUE.
