ABS SYSTEM WASL LEAKING COST$ 640 TO REPAIR. THEN FOUND THAT ABS MODULATOR HAD FAILED WHICH COST OVER $940 TO REPLACE. WHAT KIND OF BRAKE DESIGN IS THIS? TOTAL RIPOFF. NEVER AGAIN HONDA.
SRS LIGHT/SENSOR UNIT. WE OWN A 1997 ACCORD. IN 2002, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON, AND WE BROUGHT IT TO HONDA DEALER. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF. THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN RECENTLY, AND AS LAST YEAR THEY WERE ABLE TO TURN THE LIGHT OFF. THEY SAID IF IT COMES ON AGAIN, WE WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE SENSOR FOR $825. WELL, A WEEK LATER, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WE ONLY HAVE 39K MILES ON THE CAR. ACCORDING TO HONDA, IT'S NOT THE AGE, OR MILEAGE, BUT HOW MANY TIMES YOU START YOUR VEHICLE THAT WEARS AWAY AT THIS EXPENSIVE UNIT. I PROBABLY START MY CAR 2 TIMES A DAY, SOMETIMES LESS. IF WE DON'T REPLACE THE UNIT. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEEPLY (ACCORDING TO HONDA). NUMEROUS HONDA OWNERS HAVE BEEN FACED WITH THIS PROBLEM. WHY ARE HONDA OWNERS BEING SACKED WITH THE COST OF A DEFECTIVE PART? WHAT IS BEING DONE TO MAKE THIS PART MORE DURABLE? MY FRIEND BOUGHT A NEW 2002 ODYSSEY, AND ALREADY HAD THE LIGHT GO ON AFTER 7 MONTHS. OBVIOUSLY, NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED. *JB
SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS DURING COLD WEATHER. REPLACED SWAY BAR BUSHINGS BUT PROBLEM HAS NOT GONE AWAY. HAVE FOUND OUT AFTER TALKING TO HONDA TECHNICIAN THAT THE STRUTS IN THE FRONT AND REAR STRUTS ARE WORN. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ACCORDING TO TECHNICIAN FROM HONDA. VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT AND WILL NOT FIX.
WHILE DRIVING TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP WHEN CHANGING GEARS. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC INDICATED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSED THE GEARS TO SLIP. *AK
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED SEVERELY. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS NORMAL. *JB THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD HER THE PROBLEM WAS THE ROTORS, HOWEVER AFTER THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE DEALER STATED THE VIBRATION WAS NORMAL AND TO JUST GET A ALIGNMENT. *JB *NM
THE SRS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AT ABOUT 107000 MILES. IT WAS CHECKED AND RESET AT HONDA SERVICE. WITHIN 100-200 MILES IT CAME ON AGAIN. WHEN TAKEN TO HONDA SERVICE FOR THE NEXT OIL SERVICE THE LIGHT-ON WAS CHECKED AGAIN AND COULD NOT BE RESET. I WAS TOLD THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $715.00. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM DRIVING WITH THE LIGHT ON. I BOUGHT THE VEH. NEW AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. REPLACEMENT OF PARTS FOR NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR IS UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT NOT FOR PARTS THAT ARE NEVER ACTIVATED. THIS SHOULD BE A HONDA RESPONSIBILITY. I AM NOT SURE IF THE AIR BAGS WILL DEPLOY IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE LIGHT IS A CONSTANT NUSANCE. I HAVE ASLO HAD THE SERVICE ENGINE ON LIGHT RESET A NUMBER OF TIME DURING OWNERSHIP WITH NO FAULT PRESENT. THE "SRS" LIGHT HAS REPEATEDLY COME ON. HONDA SERVICE SAYS THE SENSOR/MODULE IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACE AT A COST OF $715.00. THE AIR BAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED. HONDA SHOULD WARRANT THIS SAFETY EQUIPMENT ITEM AT NO CAST TO THE OWNER. THE WARNING LIGHT IS CURRENTLY "ON" AND CANNOT BE RESET ACCORDING TO HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *LA
I REMOVED IGNITION KEY , THINKING TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK, AND EXITED FROM CAR. THE CAR ROLLED AWAY. I DISCOVERED IT WAS IN DRIVE. HONDA HAS A RECALL # 03V423000 FOR THIS IDENTICAL PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM ON MY CAR HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY THE DEALER. I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE 1997S , ONLY 1998-1999. I AM HEREBY INFORMING YOU THAT THE PROBLEM ALSO EXISTS ON 1997S (DEMONSTRATABLE ON MY VEHICAL WITH 59K MILES.) 1997'S SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. TRANSMISSION ON MY 1997 HONDA ACCORD LX V4 FAILED PREMATURELY AT 58000 MILES, AND HONDA REFUSED TO HELP IN ANY WAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD HISTORY OF SUCH PROBLEMS, AND EVEN HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR SUCH PROBLEMS ON NEWER HONDA AND ACURA BRANDED VEHICLES.THE REASON FOR REFUSAL WAS THAT THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE GOODWILL ASSISTANCE TO VEHICLES MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD.BUT THE BOTTOM LINE WAS THAT I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE WELL SO THIS WAS A MANUFECTURING DEFECT, AND THERE WAS CERTAIN QUALITY AND DURABILITY THAT WAS EXPECTED FROM ANY PRODUCT, AND THE MANUFECTURER SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT FAILED, EVEN IF IT HAPPEND OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. THE FACT THAT THEY PROVIDED 7 YEARS/100000 MILES EXTENDED WARRANTY ON NEWER VEHICLES, SET UP A PRECEDENT, THAT WAS THAT THEY EXPECTED A DEFECT FREE TRANSMISSION TO LAST AT LEAST THAT LONG.*AK ALSO ALARMING IS THE WAY IN WHICH FAILURE OCCURED. ON 7/27/03, SUNDAY THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT SHOWED UP, I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC RIGHT AWAY, AND SO ON MONDAY MORNING I COULDN'T EVEN GET OUT TO THE MAIN ROAD FROM MY DEVELOPMENT AND THE CAR JUST LOST THE GEAR. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGN, AND THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE TURNED FATAL, IF THE FAILURE OCCURED AT FREEWAY TRAFFIC AND SPEEDS.
WHILE DRIVING SMELLED A STRANGE ODOR ENTERING PASSENGER CABIN. CONSUMER INSPECTED AND DISCOVERED THAT 1 OF THE ENGINE COOLING FANS IS CONTAINED IN A PLASTIC HOLDER BEHIND THE RADIATOR. THE PLASTIC HOLDER COMPLETELY MELTED WHILE FAN WAS IN OPERATION AND ALMOST STARTED A FIRE. *AK
ON 7/27/03, SUNDAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOWED UP, I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC RIGHT AWAY THE NEXT DAY, BUT ON MONDAY MORNING, I COULDN'T EVEN GET OUT TO THE MAIN ROAD FROM MY DEVELOPMENT AND THE CAR JUST LOST THE GEAR. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGN, AND THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE TURNED FATAL AT HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND SPEEDS. CAR JUST HAS 58K MILES AND HONDA REFUSES TO HELP IN ANY WAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE HISTORY OF SUCH PROBLEMS AND THEY EVEN HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRENTY FOR SUCH PROBLEMS ON NEWER HONDA AND ACURA BRANDED VEHICLES. THE REASON FOR REFUSAL IS THAT THEY DON'T PROVIDE GOODWILL ASSISTANCE TO VEHICLES MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD. BUT THE BOTTOMLINE IS THAT I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE WELL AND GENERALLY THE USAGE HABITS AFFECT MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS NOT THE AUTOMATIC ONES. WE HAVE DRIVEN OTHER CARS TO DEATH AND NOTHING HAD HAPPENED TO THEIR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, SO THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THERE IS CERTAIN QUALITY AND DURABILITY THAT IS EXPECTED FROM ANY PRODUCT, AND THE MANUFECTURER SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT FAILS, EVEN IF IT HAPPENS OUTSIDE OF WARRENTY. THE FACT THAT THEY PROVIDE 7 YEARS/100000 MILES EXTENDED WARRENTY ON NEWER VEHICLES, SETS UP A PRECEDENT, THAT IS THEY EXPECT A DEFECT FREE TRANSMISSION TO LAST AT LEAST THAT LONG. HONDA JUST THINKS THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITHOUT FIXING OLDER CARS BECAUSE THEY THINK OWENERS WON'T PURSUE THEIR CASE IN THE COURT, BUT I AM GOING TO THE SMALL CLAIMS COURT FOR SURE ON THIS ONE.
I DROVE TO A RESTAURANT ABOUT ONE MILE FROM MY HOUSE AND PARKED NOSE-IN TO A CURB IN A PARKING LOT. I PLACED THE CAR IN FIRST GEAR, AS ALWAYS, AND ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AS I AND MY THREE COMPANIONS LEFT THE CAR, I CLICKED THE REMOTE KEYLESS LOCK, AS I USUALLY DO. AFTER DINNER, WE CAME OUT TO RETURN HOME. MY HUSBAND WAS TO DRIVE BACK, SO I AGAIN USED MY REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY CLICKER AND THE CAR UNLOCKED. MY HUSBAND HELD OPEN THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT DOOR FOR ME, AND I SAT IN THE FRONT SEAT, THE CLICKER IN MY HAND, BUT NO BUTTON ACTIVATED. BEFORE MY HUSBAND COULD SHUT THE DOOR, THE CAR STARTED (NOTE: NO KEY IN THE IGNITION), AND CLIMBED THE CURB IN FRONT. IT STALLED, THEN STARTED AGAIN AND CONTINUED UP AND OVER THE BUSHES IN FRONT. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR. THERE WAS NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. I WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT SEAT. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE A REMOTE IGNITION. THE CAR IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS STILL ON. THE FRONT BUMPER OF THE CAR SEPARATED AS WE BACKED OFF THE BUSH.*AK
THE SRS LIGHT IN MY 1997 ACCORD WAGON IS ON FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME HONDA SIMPLY TURNED IT OFF (AND CHARGED ME). NOW I WILL BE PAYING $1,000 TO HAVE THE SYSTEM REPLACED. THIS SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON IN HONDAS AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT THE DEALER SHOULD PAY FOR OR HAVE HONDA RECALL. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SATISFIED WITH HONDA - THIS IS MY THIRD HONDA - AND IT WILL SURELY BE MY LAST.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, MR. DAN OLSON, FLOOR MANAGER, INDICATED THAT MANUFACTURER HAS SEND A BULLETIN #100 CONTAINING INFORMATION ON THE SEAL CRACK BLOCK EXHAUST MANIFOLD. SO HE HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR OVER $400.00. *AK
I AM EXACTLY IN THE SAME SITUATION AS COMPLAINT NUMBER 566928. SRS LIGHT CAME ON ONE DAY AND STAYED ON, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND RESET THE SYSTEM. WITH IN 2 WEEKS, SRS LIGHT CAME BACK ON STAYED ON AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE SRS CONTROL UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND IT COSTS $825.50 AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. IT WASN'T SIMPLY FAIR AND I AM NOT HAPPY TO PAY FOR THIS. IT IS NOTHING THAT I DID WRONG, SIMPLY ONE OF THEIR SAFETY FEATURES WAS DEFECTIVE. SINCE THERE WAS ANOTHER CASE EXIST ON THIS. IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND MAY NEED TO RECALL THIS. IF THE SRS SYSTEM BECOME DEFECTIVE, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. *NLM

THE SRS LIGHT ON OUR 1997 HONDA EX-V6 MODEL WILL NOT GO OFF. WE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER, WILLEY HONDA, (WHERE THE AUTOMOBILE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND ALL SERVICE WORK HAS BEEN DONE) AND THEY SIMPLY TURNED THE LIGHT OFF SAYING THERE MUST BE A "SHORT" IN THE LIGHT. THE FIRST COMPLAINT WAS BEFORE THE WARRANTY WAS UP ON THE VEHICLE. SEVERAL TIMES SINCE WHEN IT HAS COME BACK ON - THEY WOULD TURN IT OFF. NOW THEY ARE TELLING US IT MUST BE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND THEY WANT US TO PAY $750.+ TO HAVE IT REPAIRED PROPERLY AS THE AIR BAGS MIGHT NOT BE WORKING RIGHT! WE FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME INSTEAD OF "GUESSING". THIS SHOULD NOT BE OUR PROBLEM NO MATTER HOW MANY MILES ARE ON THE CAR! WE ARE, NOW, AFRAID TO DRIVE IT IN CASE THEY INFLATE WHEN THEY "SHOULDN'T" OR WHEN THEY "SHOULD". I PURCHASED THIS 1997 HONDA ACCORD FROM MY MOM (SHE WAS THE ONLY OWNER) IT ONLY HAD 18,000 MILES AT THE TIME. CURRENTLY THE AUTO HAS A LITTLE MORE THAN 40,000 AND THERE IS NOTICABLE TIRE WEAR AND THE BRAKES MAKE A STRANGE CLICKING NOISE WHEN BRAKING.
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED. DEALER FOUND THAT ACCELERATOR CABLE BROKE. BUT DEALER DID NOT WANT TO PERFORM ANY REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE. *AK

HI, SEVERAL YEARS AGO I REPORTED TO NHTSA (AND CORPORATE HONDA)THAT MY HONDA ACCORD HAD SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. A NHTSA ENGINEER TELEPHONED ME AND DID IN FACT GO OUT TO A DEALER TO INVESTIGATE MY ALLEGATION. NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY NHTSA AND HONDA DID NOTHING TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION DEFECT. TODAY, SOME YEARS AFTER MY COMPLAINT, I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOPS ARE EXPERIENCING A LARGE AND UNUSUAL INCREASE IN TRANSMISSION FAILURES OF THE HONDA ACCORD, 4 AND 6-CYLINDER. FAILURES ARE OCCURRING AT 40,000 TO 60,000 MILES. HONDA DEALERSHIPS HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ARE NOT PAYING FOR THESE PREMATURE FAILURES, INSTEAD OWNERS ARE PAYING $6,000.000 FOR NEW TRANMISSIONS. WHEN ENGINE IS STARTED I HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM THE ABS MODULATOR. THE NOISE REPEATEDLY OCCURS APPROX EVERY 2-3 MINUTES. AFTER APPROX 5 MILES OF DRIVING THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON. SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON. DEALER ADVISED THAT WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AND BRING IT IN TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM COST $75.00. MORE THAN LIKELY $500.00 - 600.00 TO CORRECT. I ADVISED THAT I READ AN ARTICLE WHERE IN MOST CASED THE BUSHINGS COUNLD BE CLEANED AND REPLACED AT A CHARGE OF $50.00 - 75.00. SERVICE CLERK CLAIMS NOT TO HAVE EVER HEARD THAT. IN A SHORT DISTANCE THE VEHICLE IS LIKELY TO HAVE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL, JUMPED A CONCRETE CURB, AND STRUCK A TREE. THE DECEASED HAD A BROKEN ANKLE, WHICH WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE. OTHER INJURIES INCLUDED BROKEN JAW AND SEVER INTERNAL INJURIES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY SINCE THE CAR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN IN A SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT. HOWEVER THE CAR WAS DRIVEN BY ME AND MY WIFE FOR OVER 25K MILES DURING WHICH TIME WE HAD NO PROBLEMS.
