SRS DASH BOARD LIGHT IS 'ON' AND WILL NOT TURN-OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE F DEALER REPAIRED IT FOR FREE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRENTY. WHEN I APPROACHED THE DEALER ABOUT THE SECOND FAILURE I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ONLY WARRENTY THE REPAIR FOR ONE YEAR - THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE ONE YEAR WARRENTY EXPIRED. GIVEN THE NUMBER OF REGISTERED COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM HONDA SHOULD BE FORCED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE. *AK
DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SENSOR
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON, AND HAS BEEN ON FOR 1 YEAR AND 6 MONTHS. IN JUNE, IT WAS RESET, AND REMEDY HAS NOT CORRECTED ITSELF. *AK
WHILE BRAKING TO PARK, ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND TOOK OFF OUT OF CONTROL, FORCING VEHICLE INTO SOME BUSHES AND A PRIVATE PATIO DECK BEFORE STOPPING. ONE INJURY WAS SUSTAINED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK ONE PERSON WAS INJURED. *TT
THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG IN MY CAR IS DEFECTIVE, CAUSING THE SRS SYSTEM TO BE INACTIVE. HONDA STATES THAT THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND THAT IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE THIS FAULTY PART. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE AROUND THE COUNTRY MAY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHAT GOOD IS A SAFETY FEATURE IF THE MANUFACTURER WON'T WARRANT IT FOR MORE THAN 4 YEARS? *AK
ON 3/26/01 MONDAY, WHILE TRAVELING FROM HWY 80 FROM FAIRFIELD, CA TO VALLEJO CA. MY HONDA ACCORD BEGAN TO DISPLAY "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION". MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS "OFF". HOWEVER, THE ACCORD WAS ACCELERATING BY ITSELF. IT FELT THE CAR WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL. WHILE GOING UPHILL, IT BEGAN TO SPEED UP INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN. THE ONLY WAY I CAN SLOW MY VEHICLE WAS TO DOWNSHIFT AT 2ND OR 3RD GEAR. MY ACCORD IS AN AUTOMATIC. I HAD TO PERIODICALLY PRESS THE BRAKES BECAUSE THE CAR WAS APPROACHINGS SPEEDS UP TO 80 MPH. AFTER 5 MILES OF SHEER TERROR, I DECIDED TO EXIT ON AN OFFRAMP AND WHILE THE ACCORD WAS STOPPED, THE ACCORD BEGAN IDLING VERY HIGH. APPLYING THE BRAKES TOOK EFFORT. BECAUSE, ONCE I LET GO, THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. FINALLY, I REACHED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP-AVERY GREEN MOTORS. UNTIL NOW, THE CAR IS STILL THERE, BECAUSE THE THROTTLE CABLE IS IN BACK ORDER. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 99I002000 FOR FUEL THROTTLE LINKAGES AND CONTROL IS WHAT I SUSPECT IS THE DEFECT THAT IS OCCURING WITH THE ACCORD. ORIGINALLY, THE DEALER QUOTED AN ESTIMATE OF $90.00. THEN, I RECEIVED A CALL THAT I HAVE A BAD THROTTLE CABLE AND IT SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE ESITMATE WAS APPROXIMATELY $500.00. THE MANUFACTUER/DEALER SHOULD/MUST FIX THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY COST TO ME. ACCORDING TO OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION-RECALL DATABASE 888-327-4236 DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE CABLE. HONDA HAS DECIDED TO CONDUCT A PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE CABLE. OWNERS CAN CONTACT HONDA AT 800-999-1009. MY MAIN QUESTION IS THIS. WHY WAS I NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS DEFECT? I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY WRITTEN NOTIFICATION OR CALLS FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM OCCURING TO MY ACCORD. HOWEVER, I EXPERIENCED THIS FIRSTHAND ON 3/26/01. A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT WAS IN A MAKING, ESPECIALLY DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE MORNING - 5:30AM PST. IF ADVANCE WARNING WAS GIVEN TO ME, THE INCONVENIECE AND DANGER WOULD HAVE BEEN AVERTED.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY WHILE GOING UP HILL. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE REASON WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE CABLE. CONSUMER INFORMED BY MANUFACTURER THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF RECALL 99I002000. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
ENGINE DIED WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND COULD NOT FIND CAUSE OF PROBLEM. CONSUMER HAD THIS PROBLEM ABOUT 3 MORE TIMES. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER, AND THEY SAID IGNITER NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. CONSUMER COULD NOT AFFORD, AND DISTRIBUTOR WAS CHANGED. BUT, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. WHEN VEHICLE DIES CONSUMER LOSES POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES GET HARD. *AK
AIR BAG ARE DEFECT. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE UNTIL WE PAID $800.00 TO REPAIR IT. *JB
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE.*AK THE MANUFACTURER REIMBURSED THE REPAIR COST PAID BY THE CONSUMER. *YH
WAS TRAVELING 25-30MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE SIDESWIPED HONDA ON DRIVER'S SIDE. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AFTER ACCIDENT, BUT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.LIGHT WAS NOT ON PRIOR TO ACCIDENT.*AK
BOTH FRONT AND REAR AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS DO NOT OPERATE. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO LOCK DOORS OR, ONCE LOCKED, TO UNLOCK DOORS. COULD PRESENT PROBLEM IN AN EMERGENCY. MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HAS NOTICED HIGH FREQUENCY OF SIMILAR FAILURES AND SAID SUCH PROBLEM SHOULD NOT EXIST ON CAR SO NEW WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE.*AK
AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR PREMATURELY FAILED AT 64,000 MILES . *AK THE CONSUMER HAD REPLACED THE EVAPORATOR AND WANTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL PART WAS DEFECTIVE. *YH
I PAID $467.32 TO REPLACE A PART THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED DURING LIFE OF VEHICLE;THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE PART AND HONDA SHOULD REIMBURSE ME. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED IN SUMMARY. *AK
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON IN JAN 2001, WAS RESET BY DEALER. ON 9 JULY 2001, AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. CONSUMER HAS APPOINTMENT TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER.*AK
TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS IN SIDEWALL. LF TIRE BLEW OUT WHEN LARGE PORTION OF SIDEWALL BECAME DETACHED FROM INNER CORDS. TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED AT 34PSI SHORTLY BEFORE INCIDENT. NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO TIRE FROM ROAD DEBRIS, ETC. WHICH MIGHT EXPLAIN FAI (DOT NUMBER: M3NX83AX50 TIRESIZE: 185/65R15)
AS SOON AS VEHICLE'S SPEED IS OVER 60 MPH, IT SHAKES VERY BADLY. STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END SHAKE. *AK
THIS IS MY SECOND ACCORD TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED.
AUTOMATIC LOCKS DOES NOT LOCK WHEN DEPRESSING AUTOMATIC LOCK ON DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. *AK THE POWER DOOR LOCK WAS INOPERATIVE DUE TO CONTROL UNIT FAILURE. *YH
I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA ABOUT THE FAILURE OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ON BOTH MY 9196 AND 1997 ACCORDS AND THEY ACTED FREINDLY AT FIRST THEN DECIDED NOT TO PAY FOR ANYTHING. SO I AM HAING TO GET THE ABS REPAIRED ON BOTH OF THE CARS AT COST TO MYSELF. *AK
NO FULE PUMP IN TOWN, ON ORDER FOR 4 DAYS NOW. FUEL PUMP SHOULD NOT GO OUT AT 40000 MILES. *AK
BALANCE SHAFT SEAL BLEW, OIL SOAKING THE TIMING AND DRIVE BELTS. DEALER TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR REPAIR THAT WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY SEAL THAT HONDA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH. *AK
CONSUMER STATES SRS LIGHT CAME ON AS VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND STAYED ON, THE DEALERSHIP RESET THE SYSTEM. ANOTHER OCCASION, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE PART AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED. CONSUMER HAS DIFFICULTY ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A DEFECTIVE PART IN THE SRS SYSTEM. *TT

VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM REOCCURRING. *AK DEALER PERFORMED ALIGNMENT AND CONSUMER EVEN TRIED DIFFERENT TIRES, HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXIST. *TT
HEARED A LOUD BANGING NOISE UNDER THE SHIFT LEVER WHILE DRIVING 40+ MPH ACCELERATING ONTO THE INTERSTATE. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, CAR STALLED WHILE TURNING CORNER. EXPERIENCED SLUGGISH AND INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER (WITH FREQUENT STALLING DRIVING BETWEEEN 10 TO 65 MPH ON RESIDENTIAL AREA OR ON A HIGHWAY). HONDA SERVICE TECHNICIAN REMOVED AND REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL & MAIN RELAY, AND ADVISED ME TO DISCONNECT A NON-HONDA CAR THEFT ALARM SYSTEM FOR FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM. PROBLEM GOT WORST AFTER DISCONNECTING CAR THEFT ALARM SYSTEM. CAR LOST POWER, (SOMETIMES POWER COMES BACK ON WHEN FOOT WAS LIFT OFF THE GAS PEDAL), MORE THAN 15 TIMES WITHIN 8 MILES OF DRIVING AT 4:30AM AND HAD DIFFICULTY RESTARTING. EXPERIENCED HARD START LATER THAT DAY AT 3:30PM. TODAY, CHRISTMAS DAY, I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, CLEANED THE TERMINALS, CHECKED THE WIRES UNDER THE DASHBOARD FOR CUT OR LOOSE CONNECTIONS, RECONNECT THE BATTREY, TEST DRIVED, AND CAR STALLED WITH SOME WEIRD NOISE (LIKE A NOISE MADE BY AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOSSING POWER) BY FRONT/LOWER OF THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR. THIS PROBLEM HAD ALREADY COST ME A LITTLE OVER $500.00 AND I JUST DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO SPEND JUST TO GUESS WHAT WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
I LOST MORE THAN HALF OF THE OIL ON 2 MILE DRIVE TO SCHOOL- BROKEN SEAL, WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. MY LUCK IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY- THE CAR WOULD'VE BEEN GONE. A MECHANIC AT FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER WAS NOT SURPRISED - HE HAD SEEN THIS HAPPEN ON MANY OTHER ACCORDS.*AK
PEOO 020; ATTENDANT AT GARAGE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A CRACKING ALL AROUND SIDEWALL. LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS SHOWING MORE WEAR . ALL TIRES WERE SHOWING SIGNS OF CRACKING. BRIDGESTONE, POTENZA, RE92 1856515, THERE WERE NO INJURIES.*AK CRACKING WAS ON INSIDE AND CORD FAILURE WAS VISIBLE ON BOTH FRONT TIRES. *YH

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HAVING TO PAY TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART. THE DRIVERS MANUAL SAYS THAT THE AIR BAGS DO NOT NEED TO BE SERVICED UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS TEN YEARS OLD. DT
CONSUMER STATES AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT (SRS) CAME ON AND STAYED ON, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED AND CONSUMER WAS ADVISED BY MECHANIC THAT THERE HAD BEEN AN INTERNAL FAILURE TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND IF AN ACCIDENT WAS TO OCCUR THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY, MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THE NEEDED PART, AND WAS NOT SURE WHEN PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. *JB

OIL SEAL BLEW, LOST ALMOST ALL OF THE OIL. NO WARNING. HONDA DEALER IN ALHAMBRA, CA SAID THAT THE ENGINE HAD CEASED, WANTED OVER $8,000 TO REPLACE ENGINE. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT THE ENGINE HAD NOT CEASED. HE HAD 2 OTHER HONDA ACCORDS THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON AT ALL TIMES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. OWNER WAS TOLD THAT PART(S) TO CORRECT PROBLEM WERE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. *AK *ML
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, AND THERE ARE AIRBAGS IN THE CAR. BUT, THEY WILL NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE OF A MECHANISM THAT HAS BEEN ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR A OVER A MONTH. CONSUMER FELT VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE AIRBAGS DID NOT WORK.*AK
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JUNE 2000. AS CERTIFIED VEHICLE FROM DEALERSHIP,, CERTIFIED FOR SAFETY INSPECTIONS 150 POINT? I NOTICED WHEN TEST DRIVING VEHICLE. FRONT OF VEHICLE HAD SEVERE VIBRATION, I NOTICED THAT THE TIRES WERE LOW ON AIR PRESSURE. PROBLEM CONTINUED, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIME TO RESOLVE THE MATTER. AT THE TIME OF SALE THE INSPECTION WAS TO BE FINAL. I LATER FOUND OUT THE INSPECTION WAS NEVER COMPLETED PROPERLY, THER ARE TWO ACTIVE TITLES CURRENTLY ON VEHICLE, OHIO AND CALIFORNIA CALIFORNIA IS NOW SALVAGED TITLE AS OF 2/04/2001. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIME REGARDING THE FINDINGS ON THE BUMPER COVER THAT HAD MEDICAL TAPE HOLDING THE SIDE SECURE FASTNERS TOGETHER. AND BUMPER COVER OUT OF ALLIGNMENT. RADIATOR SUPPORT HAD BEEN BUCKLED AND NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY, PRIMER ON THE INSIDE OF RIGHT FRONT HOOD, HEAD L IGHT ASSEMBLY UNIT NOT COMPLETE AND OUT OF ALLIGNMENT, UNEVEN TIRE WEAR, NO OWNERS MANUAL, TIRES SWITCHED AT TIME ALLIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED BY DEALERSHIP, DEALERSHIP RENTED VEHICLE FOR 10 DAYS., DEALERSHIP REPRESENTED PREFERRED BODY SHOP AMERICAN AUTOBODY AND PAINT AS BOAR OFFICIAL THAT WAS MISREPRESENTATION, CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AS WELL AS HONDA CARE REGARDING THIS VEHICLE AND DEALERSHIP? I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP WHAT THE CERTIFICATION APPLIED TO? IT WAS TO BE WARRANTIED JUST LIKE A NEW VEHICLE..VEHICLE WARRANTY DOCS WERE INCOMPLETE AND NOT VOLUNTARILY SUBMITTED? DEALERSHIP EMPLOYEE PUSHED HUSBAND AGAINST WALL? NO OWNERS MANUAL? MICHELLON WARRANTY CAME WITH VEHICLE DOCS. BUT AT TIME OF ALLIGNMENT FEDERAL TIRES WERE REPLACED WITHOUT WARRANTY? I WAS TOLD THE NEW TIRES WERE MAGICAL? I TOTALLED THE VEHICLE AND LATER FOUND ON CCC REPORT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY, THAT VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUS DAMAGE DONE.. AND ALL THE ABOVE PROBLEM PERTAINING TO PREVIOUS DAMAGE?*AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER DUE TO SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST DURING ACCELERATION, THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK A SECOND TIME IN WHICH THE DEALER REMOVED THE HEADS AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE IN WHICH THE ENGINE WOULD NEED REPLACED, THE DEALER WOULD NOT MAKE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. *SLC

AIR BAG SOS CONTROL UNIT BROKE, CAUSING THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERABLE. CONTACTED BOTH DEALER AND HONDA, PART NOT AVAILABLE, WAITING FOR SHIPMENT FROM JAPAN. *AK *ML
SAME EXACT INCIDENT HAPPENED TO ANOTHER CAR I OWNED, HONDA ACCORD LX 96, AT THE SAME MILEAGE RANGE (59K-60K). ONLY WITH ACCORD 96, I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO STOP ON TIME, AND WAS ABLE TO SAVE THE ENGINE. WHEREAS, IN THIS CAR - ACCORD 97 SITUATION, I WAS TOO LATE, ALL OF THE OIL CAME OUT, AND ENGINE WAS IRREPARABLY DAMAGED. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA ACCORD MANUALS, MAINTENANCE (CHANGE OF TIMING BELTS, ETC.) ON THE CAR SHOULD BE DONE AT AROUND 90K MILES, EXCLUDING THE REGULAR OIL CHANGES. I HAVE HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY A/C DRAINING INTO THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AND REAR OF MY CAR. THE WATER FROM MY A/C DRAINS INTO THE CAR AS A RESULT OF BLOCKAGE OF THE DRAIN HOSE ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND ANOTHER DEALERSHIP ABOUT 6 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR. ON 3/14/2000, AFTER REPAIRING THE SERVICE REP. STATED MY A/C SHOULD BE OPERATED IN THE RE-CIRCULATION MODE VICE THE FRESH AIR MODE. I EXPLAINED WE HAVE 4 OTHER CARS PARKING IN THE SAME AREA AS I DO, AND NONE ARE EXPERIENCING AC DRAINAGE PROBLEMS. I ASK THE REP. DOES THAT MEANS ALL HONDA MUST BE OPERATED IN THE RE-CIRCULATION MODE? HER RESPONSE WAS YES, THEY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT TO ALL THEIR HONDA ACCORDS OWNERS. THE SERVICE REP. THE ONBOARD COMPUTER/BRAIN IS MALFUNCTIONING. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC HAS ADVISED ME THAT THE ABS/BRAKE SYSTEM AND THE SRS/AIR BAG SYSTEM COULD DEPLOY AT ANY TIME DUE TO THE COMPUTER MALFUNCTION. I AM CONCERED THAT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD RESULT IF THE BRAKES FAIL OR THE AIR BAGS PREMATURELY DEPLOY WHILE I AM DRIVING. *AK
VEHICLE WAS COMING TO STOP WHEN IT WAS REARENDED AND PUSHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, THEN HITTING A GUARDRAIL WHERE NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED. ALSO, DRIVER'S SEAT COLLAPSED, FALLING BACKWARD WHERE A CHILD CAR SEAT WAS LOCATATED, VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS. *AK
