AT APPROXIMATELY 87,500 MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX SEDAN. COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS OF THE TROUBLE CODE READ "CATALYST DETERIORATION." I HAD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED, AND THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THREE WEEKS LATER. THIS TIME, THE TROUBLE CODE SAID THAT THERE WAS A BAD PRIMARY OXYGEN SENSOR. THIS TOO, WAS REPLACED, AND I AM HOPING THAT THE LIGHT STAYS OFF. *JB
THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS RECALLED BUT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO REPAIR IT. *NLM THE CONSUMER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED AFTER A YEAR. *SCC *JB
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE #02V120000 REGARDING THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHEN THE CONSUMER CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, HE/SHE WERE TOLD ONLY THE VEHICLE'S THAT EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED.*JB THE VEHICLE DIED TWICE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP. *PH *JB
TRANSMISSION FAILED. STARTED BY MAKING CLICKING NOISES WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. TRANSMISSION EVENTUALLY WOULD NOT ENGAGED. GEARS SLIPPED SEVERELY ALL THE WHILE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING. I HAD TO KEEP PUTTING FLUID IN UNTIL I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. I REPLACED IT WITH A SALVAGE 98 TRANSMISSION ONLY TO START HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN. HONDA WOULD NOT HELP ME SAYING THAT IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I HAD NOT GOT THE SUGGESTED SERVICE ON IT AT 30, 60K MILES. *LA
I WAS IN A MULTI-VEHICLE CAR ACCIDENT ON SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2003 AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD. I WAS GOING ABOUT 50 MPH AND THE FRONT END OF MY CAR HIT ANOTHER CAR AND THEN A DIFFERENT CAR SLAMMED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE. GIVEN THE SPEED OF THE ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. *JB
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT PROPERLY. *JB
1998 HONDA ACCORD LX, 43,000 MILES. CAR'S ENGINE QUIT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS ABOUT A WEEK APART WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. AFTER COMING TO STOP, ENGINE STARTED BACK UP IMMEDIATELY. REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH (UNDER RECALL) AND NO MORE PROBLEMS. *TT
CONSISTANT PROBLEM WITH THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" IN MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD. HAVE BEEN TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS, AND ALL THREE HAVE A DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS (ALL OVER $500). I WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, AND THAT I SHOULD JUST IGNORE THE LIGHT. BUT NOW MY CAR WON'T PASS NEW JERSEY INSPECTION WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF ACCORD OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE INTERNET (HTTP://WWW.CARTRACKERS.COM/FORUMS/LIVE/HONDA/33.HTML) AND I NOW REALIZE THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM THAT HONDA WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE.*AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE 1998 HONDA ACCORD. *AK
IN MARCH, 2003, I PURCHASED A 'USED' 1998 HONDA ACCORD, (EX), FROM ROSNER TOYOTA,3507 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, FREDERICKSBURG, VA 22408, 540-898-7900. THIS WAS A "LEASE" CAR THAT WAS TURNED IN FOR A TRADE.*AK THE CAR WAS HANDLING POORLY DURING THE WINTER OF 2003-2004. I WENT TO MY REGULAR AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHICH IS EXPRESS AUTO SERVICES, 2101 JEFERSON DAVIS HWY, FREDERICKSBURG, VA 22401, 540-372-4422, SERVICE ATTENDANT-BRIAN. I WAS INFORMED BY BRIAN THAT THE TIRES THAT WERE MOUNTED ON THE CAR WERE ILLEGAL. THE TIRES WERE "WARRIOR' WITH A "T" SPEED RATING. THE MANUFACTURES RATING WAS A "V" SPEED RATING. I WAS ALSO INFORMED BY THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE THAT THESE TIRES WERE IN FACT ILLEGAL, & IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT OR PULLED OVER FOR A MOVING VIOLATION, I WOULD BE CITED FOR "ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT." THE COMPLAINT IS CONCERNING THE TIRES. I HAD TO REPLACE THE (4) TIRES. I PURCHASED (4) MICHELIN TIRES FROM EXPRESS AUTO SERVICE, AT A TOTAL COST OF $545.58. NOTE: EXPRESS AUTO MADE A NOTATION ON THE INVOICE THAT THE TIRES WERE INCORRECT & THEY HAVE DIGITAL PICTURES OF THE OLD TIRES. I HAD COMMUNICATED MY CONCERNS WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE & THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO STATE MY COMPLAINT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH IS ROSNER TOYOTA. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER OF ROSNER, (MIKE), WHO INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD PAY 1/2 OF THE THE CHARGES FOR THE TIRES. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE. I WANTED TOTAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL OF THE TIRES AND HE REFUSED. I TRIED TO GET TOYOTA CORP TO INTERVENE, BUT THEY STATE THAT THEY DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THIER DEALERSHIPS. I ALSO TRIED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP, BUT I AM TOLD THAT HE "IS NOT AVAILABLE". I WAS INFORMED BY THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU. THEREFORE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN ASSIST ME IN THIS MATTER. THE ONLY OTHER RECOURSE I HAVE IS TO GILE A CLAIM IN 'SMALL CLAIMS " COURT IN THE CITY OF FREDERICKSBURG, VA.
THE VEHICLE HAD NO STEERING, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME HARD TO CONTROL. *JB
MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" HAS BEEN ON FOR OVER A YEAR. THERE ARE SCORES OF OTHER ACCORD OWNERS THAT I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO FIX THIS. IT CAN BE DISTRACTING DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH THIS LIGHT ON. *NLM
THIS IS MY MOTHERS CAR (1998 HONDA ACCORD EX-VL) WHICH WAS TOTALED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION.MY WIFE WAS THE FIRST OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND MY MOTHER HAS HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. SHE HAD STOPPED, PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, GOT OUT TO OPEN A PARKING LOT GATE, GOT BACK IN, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, AND SHIFTED THE CAR INTO GEAR. IT IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO A HIGH REV AND ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY RESULTING IN THE CAR SMASHING INTO A WALL ABOUT 60' AWAY. LUCKILY THE AIR BAGS WORKED AND NEITHER HER OR MY STEP FATHER WERE SERIOUSLY HURT. HER FOOT WAS DEFINITELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THERE IS A LOCKOUT MECHANISM THAT PREVENTS THE CAR FROM BEING TAKEN OUT OF PARK IF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT PUSHED. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED, BUT SHE WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING THE HANDLE TO MOVE. THE PROBLEM WITH IT NOT MOVING HAD OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY, USUALLY ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, BUT THE HONDA DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND TOLD HER NOTHING WAS WRONG. MY MOTHER IS A RETIRED BUS DRIVER WITH A PERFECT DRIVING RECORD, NO ACCIDENTS, AND ONLY USES ONE FOOT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.
THE MAIN REASON TO BUY A HONDA IS BECAUSE OF ITS RELIABILITY, AND IF THESE CARS CAN'T EVEN REACH A 100,000 MILES, WHATS THE USE OF DOING ALL THE SERVICES ON TIME? ALL THE FLUIDS AND EVERYTHING WAS TAKEN CARE OF ON TIME AND STILL THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. WHAT'S THE WHOLE CONCEPT? ONE THOUSAND OF ITS QUALIFIED TECHNICIANS HAVE ENGINERED A MACHINE THAT CAN'T EVEN LAST 100,000 MILES. I'VE HEARD A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED ITS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM OF THEIR COUPE. I THINK IT'S TIME TO HAVE A RECALL. *LA
TRANSMISSION JUMPS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND DOES NOT SHIFT SMOOTHLY THROUGH GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING. MARCH 4 2003, HONDA DEALERSHIP FOUND TRANSMISSION FAILED INTERNALLY AND CAR NEEDS NEW TRANSMISSION. ALSO, ON AUGUST 5,2002 A COMPLAINT WAS MADE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION JUMPING WHEN STOPPING AND A TRANSMISSION SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. *NLM
MY MOTHER WAS RECENTLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THAT TOTALED HER CAR. MY BROTHER AND HIS WIFE WERE THE FIRST OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE, AND MY MOTHER HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS. SHE HAD STOPPED, PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, GOT OUT TO OPEN A PARKING LOT GATE, GOT BACK IN, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, AND TRIED TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO GEAR. SHE HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME GETTING THE CAR BACK INTO GEAR. SHE FINALLY WAS ABLE TO SHIFT AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO A HIGH REV AND ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THIS RESULTED IN THE CAR SMASHING INTO A WALL LESS THAN 60 FEET AWAY. LUCKILY THE AIR BAGS WORKED AND MY MOTHER & STEP-FATHER'S INJURIES WERE NOT TOO SERIOUS. MY MOTHER'S FOOT WAS DEFINITELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THERE IS A LOCK OUT MECHANISM THAT PREVENTS THE CAR FROM BEING TAKEN OUT OF PARK IF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT PUSHED. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED, BUT SHE WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING THE HANDLE TO MOVE. THE PROBLEM WITH IT NOT MOVING HAD OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY, USUALLY ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, BUT THE HONDA DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND TOLD HER NOTHING WAS WRONG. NOW SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE AND IS WORRYING AND SECOND GUESSING HERSELF THAT SHE DID SOMETHING WRONG. I HAVE FOUND OVER 30 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING 1998 HONDA ACCORDS. I DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY OTHER HONDA'S ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IT APPEARS THAT HONDA CONTINUES TO PLACE THE BLAME ON DRIVER ERROR, BUT WE BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE. *JB
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AT ABOUT 82000 MILES FOR MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD LX, 4 CYLINDER. AFTER REPLACING SPARK PLUG WIRES, SPARK PLUGS AND AIR FILTER, THE LIGHT WENT OFF FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE COMPUTER CODE SAYS THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. HOWEVER, OTHERS ON THE FOLLOWING FORUM HAD THEIR CATALYTIC REPLACED, AND THE LIGHT RESUMED AFTER SOME PERIOD OF TIME: THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS FORUM OF THE SAME PROBLEM, THERE SHOULD BE NO DOUBT THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WHICH HONDA HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS. THIS PROBLEM WILL PROBABLY SEVERELY REDUCE THE RESALE VALUE OF THE CAR, OR STOP ME FROM SELLING IT COMPLETELY. *JB
GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT PARK, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO DEPRESS THE MANUAL RELEASE BUTTON IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE GEAR SHIFT PROBLEM ALSO CAUSED BRAKE LIGHTS TO BE INOPERATIVE.*AK *MR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON THE ENTIRE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN.*JB
THIS CAR HASN'T BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM BUT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I AM DEALING WITH THIS EGR VALVE ON THIS HONDA. FIRST, ONE YEAR AGO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS CUTTING OFF WHEN IT CAME TO A STOP OR WAS IDLING AND THE HONDA DEALER SAID THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY REPAIR ON THE CAR. THEY REPLACE THE EGR VALVE AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. 7 MONTHS LATER MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON BUT THE CAR'S PERFORMANCE HAD NOT CHANGED. HOWEVER, I TOOK MY CAR TO GET AN EMISSIONS TEST AND MY CAR FAILED EMISSIONS WITH THE TROUBLE CODE REPORTING EGR INSUFFICIENT FLOW. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT BECAUSE MY CAR HAS 97,000 MILES ON IT THAT THEY CANNOT HELP WITH THIS REPAIR. ALSO THE EGR CLEANING KIT IS ON BACKORDER FOR 2 WEEKS, WHICH TELLS ME THAT THERE ARE OTHER HONDAS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY THAT ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH SMART CHOICE AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT THEY CANNOT COVER EMISSIONS SYSTEMS UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. THE REPAIR AND DIAGNOSTIC FEE IS GOING TO COST ME OVER $300. HONDA KNOWS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD BE HELPING ME WITH THIS ISSUE. THIS CAR WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL EMISSIONS IF THIS EGR SITUATION IS NOT RESOLVED. I WILL MORE THAN LIKEY SELL THIS CAR THIS YEAR ONCE THIS EMISSIONS SITUATION IS OVER. *JB
THERE WAS CONDENSATION INSIDE THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH CAUSED THE LIGHT BEAM TO REFLECT, WHICH RESULTED IN POOR VISIBILITY. *JB

REFERENCE COMPLAINT #10008215: NHTSA ASSISTED IN ARRANGING A MEETING WITH MIKE MONELL PART/SERVICE DIRECTOR FOR NORM REEVES HONDA AND ERIC CATHERINE, DISTRICT PARTS/SERVICE MGR. FOR AMERICAN HONDA. THE MEETING TOOK PLACE ON 3/24/03 AND I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH MY 2003 HYBRID AND MY 1998 ACCORD. THE PRIMARY CONCERN ABOUT THE ACCORD WAS THE RECALL OF ELECTRICAL PORTION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. NORM REEVES HAD CLAIMED TO INSTALL A COMPLETE IGNITION SWITCH ON THE INSTRUCTIONS OF AMERICAN HONDA. AFTER THE ALLEGED REPAIR, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. I PROPOSED THE FOLLOWING: (1) I BUY THE NEW PART, (2) I WITNESS THE INSTALLATION, AND (3) I RECEIVE THE PART REMOVED. MR. CATHERINE PROMISED TO GET BACK TO ME IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. I BOUGHT A NEW PART FROM ANOTHER DEALER AND HAD IT INSTALLED BY AN INDEPENDENT HONDA MECHANIC ON 5/9/03. HIS OPINION WAS THAT NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE AND THAT THE PART REMOVED SHOWED WEAR UNLIKELY TO OCCUR IN THE SHORT INTERVAL. HE ALSO STATED THAT NORM REEVES COULD NOT HAVE REPLACED THE COMPLETE IGNITION, SINCE THAT TYPE OF REPAIR WOULD HAVE NECESSITATED THE RE-PROGRAMMING OF THE KEYS. FURTHER, HONDAS WRITTEN SERVICE BULLETIN 02-031 CLEARLY INSTRUCTS THE DEALER: CENTER-PUNCH A COMPLETION MARK ABOVE THE EIGHTH CHARACTER OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT VIN. NO SUCH MARK APPEARS ON MY VEHICLE. IN VIEW OF THE EVIDENCE, I NOW BELIEVE THAT HONDA HAS ENGAGED IN A FRAUDULENT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECALL ORDER. TO FURTHER PROVE THIS ALLEGATION, I SEEK THE ASSISTANCE OF NHTSA TO DETERMINE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HAND-WRITTEN NUMBERS ON THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH PART. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF BOTH THE ORIGINAL PART (35130-S84-A01) AND THE REPLACEMENT PART (35130-S84-305). FURTHER, I NOTE THAT THE RAISED PLASTIC NUMBERS ON THE PARTS DIFFER BY ONE DIGIT. I BELIEVE THAT NHTSA SHOULD ASCERTAIN THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BOTH THE RAISED PLASTIC NUMBERS AND THE HAND-WRITTEN NUMBERS TO DETERMINE WHETHER A NEW INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE INITIATED. *JB
I OWN A 1998 HONDA ACCORD WITH 44,000 MILES. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 1998. I AM NOW HAVING SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR - LURCHING AND BUMPING. WHEN I PRESENTED THE PROBLEM TO HONDA, THEY SAID THAT I MUST PAY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. CAN HONDA GET AWAY WITH THIS? I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS THE HONDA CAR COMPANY. I PURCHASED THE CAR BECAUSE OF HONDA'S TRACK-RECORD OF RELIABILITY.

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND NO WARNING THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE DEALER NOTIFIED.
NAR 1/29/2003. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR STALLING AND SPUTTERING ISSUES. HONDA ISSUED A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT THE CONSUMER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK WHEN THE CONTROL PANEL WAS USED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. *JB
NAR 1/31/2003. THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT WITH THE BRAKE APPLIED AND THEN HESITATED WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. *JB
I OWN A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. I HAVE TRIED THE GAS CAP TRICK BUT IT NO LONGER WORKS. THERE IS AN ENTIRE WEBSITE OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT THE ADDRESS. *AK
THE PASSENGER SEAT OF MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD BROKE UPON REAR-END CRASH(MY HONDA WAS HIT IN THE REAR) AND THE SEAT DID NOT HOLD THE RECOIL IMPACT OF A SEAT-BELTED PASSENGER CAUSING INJURY TO PASSENGER.
I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD 4-DOOR. SOMETIMES THE SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOES NOT RECOIL WHEN I REMOVE IT. I GETS HUNG UP IN THE SWITCH THAT MOVES THE SEAT BACK. ON THE DATE BELOW, I HAD MY SON IN A FORWARD FACING CAR SEAT IN THE MIDDLE REAR SEAR. I PARKED AND UNCLIPPED MY SEAT BELT AND OPENED THE TRUNK. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SHUT THE DOOR BUT DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS PUSHING AGAINST THE SEAT BACK SWITCH AND LOWERED THE SEAT BACK ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT CAUGHT MY SON'S FOOT BETWEEN HIS CAR SEAT AND THE SEAT BACK. HE WAS NOT SERIOUSLY HURT, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. IT ONLY TOOK THE TIME FROM ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND GO TO THE TRUNK TO RETRIEVE HIS STROLLER FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM HONDA DATED "SUMMER 2002" TO REPLACE AN IGNITION SWITCH ON MY 1998 ACCORD. WITHIN 24 HOURS I CALLED THE DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR, SCHALLER HONDA OF NEW BRITAIN, CONN. I LEFT A DETAILED MESSAGE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. NOT HEARING ANY KIND OF RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER EVEN AFTER A REPEAT TELEPHONE CALL, I WAITED MORE THAN 60 DAYS (MORE LIKE 120 DAYS) TO CALL THE AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE. THIS WAS ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, AND AGAIN I HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. THUS THIS COMPLAINT.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AT 92000 MILES. I HAD THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER CODES EVALUATED BY A SHOP AND THEY INDICATED THE POST OXYGEN SENSOR AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
I PURCHASED A 98 HONDA ACCORD IN OCTOBER OF 2001. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP APPROXIMATELY EIGHT TIMES SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED FOR NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR. THE PAINT HAS FADED ON THE ROOF AND IS NOW FADING ON THE TRUNK LID. THE KEY HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION TWICE AND WOULD NOT COME OUT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. THE GAS PEDAL HAS GOTTEN STUCK AFTER CRANKING THE CAR AND PEDAL HAD TO BE "PUNCHED" TO GET IT TO ACCELERATE. THE CD PLAYER HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK USING KEYLESS ENTRY OR MANUALLY AND THE DOOR ACCUATOR WAS REPLACED. THE KEYLESS ENTRY HAS ALSO BEEN REPLACED. THESE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON. CURRENTLY, THE BACK WINDOW IS VIBRATING AND IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER IT IS LOOSE OR NOT. I DO FEEL THIS IS A LEMON.

FAULTY TRANSMISSION - HAVE SERVICED 4 TIMES IN 1 1/2 YEARS. HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND IS ONLY OFFERING TO COVER 1/2 OF PARTS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION ON 1998 HONDA ACCORD. IT SHIFTS INCORRECTLY AND REVS VERY HIGH, THEN SLAMS INTO NEXT GEAR. PROBLEMS STARTED AROUND 74K MILES AFTER I OWNED FOR 7 MONTHS. SAID THEY WON'T COVER WHOLE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE REGULAR SERVICE DONE AT HONDA DEALERSHIPS. I WAS ABLE TO PROVE I HAD SERVICE DONE AT REPUTABLE DEALERS BUT NOT HONDA. IT IS ESTIMATED THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WILL COST ME AROUND $1500.00. HONDA OF AMERICA SHOULD PAY FOR THE WHOLE THING IN MY MIND. THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THESE TRANSMISSIONS. WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?*AK
WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF AND PARKING BRAKE IS ENGAGED. CONSUMERS KEY WILL NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONSUMERS TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED IN WHICH HE INCURRED THE LABOR CHARGE OF $572.40. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION HAPPENED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO HIM. THE CONSUMER HAS A HONDA CR-V THAT HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AS WELL. *JB
DEALER CHARGE FOR RECONNECTION THE ALARM SYSTEM, AFTER DISCONNECTION FOR RECALL REPAIR. MFR WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT A LOW MILEAGE, ALSO THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WAS REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED.*JB
CONSUMER STATES ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION FAILED WITH ONLY 54,168 MILES ON VEHICLE. MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE PUMP ASSEMBLY FAILED CAUSING THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND SECONDARY SHAFT TO OVERHEAR AND WEAR OUT. CONSUMER HAD 52,500 MILE SERVICE PERFORMED ON VEHICLE BY DEALER WHO DID NOT DISCOVER ANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT THAT TIME. TS
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD AT ABOUT 54,000 MILES IN NOVEMBER, 2002. I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THIS TO YOUR AGENCY. HONDA HAS ONLY PAID FOR APPROXIMATELY HALF OF THE COST OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH WAS INSTALLED BY AAMCO. MY QUESTION IS WHETHER THE NHTSA IS GOING TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL ON THE 1998 HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSION. MY REVIEW OF YOUR DATABASE TODAY INDICATES OVER 100 INSTANCES OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON THIS MODEL HONDA ACCORD.
